    I think it's a real shame that the Fleet Carriers functionally aren't really what anybody wanted. We got he one type fits all attempted design when they could have been designed in several flavours:
    1. Squadrons - with all of the mulitplayer functions needed to coordinate a large group activity
    2. Merchants - Commodity Markets, Shipyards
    3. Personal - Non-persistent, no upkeep, very low fuel costs (like the rest of the ships in the game which cost literally nothing to fuel up) for carrying your personal fleet where ever you want to go - decide which ship is appropriate for what ever activity you feel like doing when you get there.
    The current state of Fleet Carriers (launch day problems not withstanding) does not interest me at all.

    A great breakdown. A basic, (forgive me for not agreeing with the full list you asked for, it was... specific) ship roster should be a thing. Knowing at very least the souls on board is a basic for any travelling vessel in 2020, not sure why is was dismissed in 3306. As for ejecting them... I'm not 100% sold on that one. Anyone can ride a bus with an open door. So close your doors. Navigation control to trusted squadron members is a good call, but that number should be limited, maybe even to just one other. With the exploration/jumping side, if you jump under the 500 LY available the fuel cost was harder. Staying close to 500 LY and reducing the weight of the carrier at each jump brings the fuel per jump cost down very nicely. Mining fuel, it's a no go. It's a time suck hole of death, sent from a bored child.

      > Anyone can ride a bus with an open door. So close your doors.
      This is very true; but the bus driver can remove anyone from the bus that is problematic to the operation of said bus. I've seen it happen in the USA as well as during travel abroad in Europe on both trains and buses and law enforcement has even been summoned to aid in that.
      I do like your point about accounting for the souls onboard a ship. The "powers that be" really don't value human life in the 3300's. lol

    Being that what i store on your carrier does not take up space no you should not be able to see what i have on your carrier. with that said being able to see that CMDR Whatshisface has 3 "ships" and 5 "Ship Parts" i can live with. This mostly has to do with the fact that i don't want to give the docking computer police more ammo.
    -
    As for Jump time i do see how this can be a waste of time in some cases. i can't deny that. how ever i feel 15 min is a good amount of time to allow people to finish things they are doing on there ships etc. (on a side note 10 min i think is the minimum as that is when the jump cycle starts and the point at the destination appears. ) With that said i would love to be able to choose the spin up time between 10 - ? i think that will help all around.

    Thanks a bunch for putting in all of the time you have for such a detailed rundown. I have one single issue that is of most interest to me that I am wondering if you can answer. Can an owner administer a carrier 100% remotely indefinitely? Never having to dock at it ever again? What I have been planning to do is have my main account purchase and run the carrier as an explorer and meeting up with my alt who is an explorer and roaming the galaxy together. Someone in our squadron said there may be an issue with transferring fuel between docked ships or from storage to the fuel tank which would make my plan impossible??

    • @imaner76
      @imaner76 4 года назад +1

      "Someone in our squadron" 🤔 was right. Transferring fuel between docked ships and the fuel usable tank is something that can only be done while onboard. So hoping off ahead and calling it to you is limited.

    • @imaner76
      @imaner76 4 года назад

      Unless you have a sap... I mean valued fleet member, onboard. They can then travel with it and gift it to the carrier fuel reserves. Extending the remote access travel possibilities.

    • @CMDRArsenCross
      @CMDRArsenCross  4 года назад +2

      Sadly, as imaner76 already stated, no it's not possible to remotely manage a *traveling* Fleet carrier remotely without other players interacting with it and donating tritium to the fuel reserves.
      However once stationary a carrier can be ran remotely indefinitely. You can completely control the transfer of cargo to other players through use of the market.
      You could, in theory, run your carrier as an intermediary trade post between players and use the tariffs as a fee for the transaction. Or offer any manner of other services you can dream up the mechanics enable (hence Swiss Army Toolbox) and have players buy the tritium off the ship and donate it to the ship.
      You could do this with really low, nearly free prices or with them jacked up... or the galactic average. The choices available are quite awesome for multiplayer.
      By yourself however the furthest you can make a carrier travel without you is about 2,000 lightyears without it forcing you to interact. With my proposed figures that limit would be raised to 10,000 Ly before you had to visit your carrier and perform a transfer of fuel.
      I however never ran into this at all as I enjoyed using the carrier as my method of travel far too much. I wish I had mentioned it though as I knew this was an issue going in but it wound up not being super important to my play style. Spent about a week organizing everything and ultimately had to stop as the resist to tinker was overwhelming.

    • @cmdrdr.digital865
      @cmdrdr.digital865 4 года назад +1

      Oh! Forgive me, sire! - I didn't know Imaner76 was so notori.. I mean famous. Sap indeed - well.. FIRST, said sap would need an effective means of piloting their ship, such as a THROTTLE. THEN one could consider contributing to the refueling of a carrier. :-)

    • @cmdrdr.digital865
      @cmdrdr.digital865 4 года назад

      Right but the sap interacting with my main's carrier would be my alt. I think, based on what you are saying is, logged in as my alt, I can use that account to mine the tritium (rather slowly, obviously) to refuel/donate. Right? 'Course THAT, on top of those unfortunate souls so foolishly generous to donate tritium to such a lowly commander as myself. :-)

      Nope that was patched out a long time ago after some research was performed in lore on Meta Alloys and used to reinforce stations. Even if it was, a carrier wouldn't be attackable with it as you can't sell anything to a carrier that the owner hasn't explicitly set a buy order for.

    Not really possible. Majority of the coding to make these changes would take months to map out and deliver.
    You are just getting a FC to manage a fleet, not manage a squad or wing. It is just a jump ship, you'll have to play with it or not.
    I think that you have too much ideas, that would be too complicated, even for a wizard programmer.
    A FC is just a simple carrier, NOT a management Swiss army knife.
    Just see it as a FC that YOU control and that has some benefits to players friends. Storage dumping friends means most friends won't stay on carrier for long periods, they'll disembark .

    • @CMDRArsenCross
      @CMDRArsenCross  4 года назад +3

      I beg to differ however appreciate hearing your feedback. As an FYI I'm a software engineer. Most of the changes I propose here are stat changes and very simple to adjust. The underlying technology for handling carrier news is already there and just needs to be cloned from station news and squadron statements and have some adjustments made. Carriers already operate the same way as stations from a technical perspective meaning that it's mostly interface and replication of the squadron statement system for posting news articles too the carrier news feed. The most complex thing here is the concept of system claims which would be almost entirely driven by database activity which is Elite's primary method of controlling the game world and happens to be my area of expertise so I'm fairly confident that is also able to be done. I don't expect any of this to be in place for the Fleet Carriers launch though unfortunately. I hope the stat changes I propose make it in though for launch because carriers are damn expensive.
      Here is a summarized text version of the changes that can also be found in the forum thread.
      Ideal Carrier Stats & Changes Summarized
      - Drop base upkeep to 2.5m.
      - Move commodities to optional service with 2.5m upkeep.
      - Include Restock, Repair & Refuel services for the owner with a stock carrier.
      - Increase Tritium efficiency to 10x, improving Fleet Carrier
      - - Maximum 500 Ly jump cost to 100 tons, down from 250 tons.
      - - Maximum travel distance per 1,000 ton fuel tank from 2,000 Ly to 10,000 Ly
      - - Long range transportation of huge quantities of cargo becomes possible.
      - - Refueling experience becomes less of a chore.-
      - Allow the storage and sale of Rare Commodities.
      - Drop the upkeep of suspended services to 10% from the current 50%.
      - Change automatic decommissioning from a debt based to inactivity based system.
      - Implement the proposed permissions changes in this document.
      - Implement the proposed quality of life changes in this document.
      - Implement the proposed communication tools in this document.
      - Implement the proposed system claims process in this document. This would justify the need for automatic carrier decommissioning beyond freeing up parking spaces.

      @@CMDRArsenCross It would take months to map out and deliver, even if its cloning lines, they are for static stations, a FC is a moving object. The coding for a station that has not been used would have to be rewritten for a moving object that has user interfaces placed from background to foreground user controls.
      It would be another game and would take months to re map, test and implement. Thus the reason WHY Fdev is NOT making wholesale changes that would delay FC by more months.
      As for the values changing for jumps and Tritium efficiency, that too is easy to be done due to the use of changing a set value with a extra 0.5 or 0 factor change.
      The the storage and sale of Rare Commodities is possible and only needs to change the allowances for objects uses.
      I agree that the FC will be a work in progress and in time changes that affect the FC and its abilities will come down the line as and when time to code it will be planned in advance. For now its just a jump carrier with basic commands and uses. It will over time mature into an awesome platform.

      @@darrellpowell6042 The game launched with Jaque's station, a proper station, jumping once a week around the bubble and surrounding area and Frontier has been testing player "managed" megaships through them moving the Gnosis, Canonn's megaship on a jump schedule.
      Jumpable stations are not new to the game and have been here for a very long time. We're only just now getting access to them and the model of them happens to be a Fleet Carrier.
      I don't expect FD to delay Fleet Carriers to impliment the changes I want that aren't stat based. I do however hope that they choose to enact some of these features as they would change the game quite dramatically for a relatively small investment.

    • @darrellpowell6042
      @darrellpowell6042 4 года назад

      @@CMDRArsenCross Jumping stations are NOT player managed. Those that are Fdev managed are very different to player managed with different coding. They are not comparable to FC at all.
      The megaships have slight differences to their coding.
      1. Some are static in a system.
      2. Some move from system to system slowly moving.
      3. Some cannot be landed on at all.
      4. The players can't influence its flight plan, its management core or influence to decide who lands or not.
      5. Affect the BGS.
      Its really that a FC is a player management system. It will get better and will be improved on, but don't expect massive changes to the FC in quite a long while, as Fdev are working on new content. Thus refinement will take time, also the FC are NOT fully finished, they will get more commands as the bugs and structure of ED is under review, as per constant review.
      I'll be expecting Fdev to under take FC management in months, unless there is a bug that breaks them or the players experiences. many times Fdev have had to update a weapon, ship or station because its evolved a bug that was not tested for.
      Well I do hope that some of your needs are requires. FYI I've played the game since 2014 for average of 8 hours per day, so I'm well versed in the game mechanics and overall development changes. Take care see you in the black
