absolutely fascinating steve.. the local seems so nice.. and their English is not bad at all for a rural backwater.. but a quick message to any of the local people of Sg patani watching this.. you need to demand your local town council to pull their sock up and clean up the town.. enforced some simple rules and regulations and make sure the kerbs and roads are well maintained.. i know the town has the money with all those highly productive manufacturing plant with some of the largest industrial estate in malaysia are in that district.. the decaying aesthetic of those back street is embarrassing and looks like nothing has change for several decades since i was there..
I mean the place where he was at is called pekan lama and nothing is there to talk about really. Had he ventured out further and gone to the amanjaya area you'd be able to see that sg petani isn't half bad for a town that's often overlooked. They're much cleaner and waayy more modern.
From a tourism point of view, Sungai Petani town itself does not offer much to see because it its essentially a residential town, and its economic wealth is very much locally based. It is often overlooked because many people only pass through it when travelling up north to Thailand or to the island of Penang. In truth, most international tourists would never travel to Kedah at all if not for the Malaysian govt's aggressive advertising of Langkawi island as a tourism hub. However, when compared to other cities in Kedah state, Sungai Petani is one of the fastest growing townships due to its convenient half-way point adjacent to the more bustling Penang, which has historically always been more prosperous due to its function as an economic trade hub since the British colonial era. It is not considered rural backwater per se, because beneath the sleepy exterior of SP (as how locals call it), there are several light industrial and technological-based factories with foreign investment (try searching for the hand-cranked gaming console Playdate which is said to be produced in SP). SP does have a hidden gem called the Lembah Bujang historical site. if you can venture just a little bit out of the town, you can visit the area which has replicas of Hindu ancient sites of pilgrimage and also artifacts dating back to the 4-11th century. And there's also a waterfall there so the area doubles as a recreational site.
its really fun watching your videos Steve, there is a certain finesse and elegance in your videos that younger youtubers doesn't have. Please keep up the posting. will be looking forward to more.
Stayed at this hotel (Asiago) few years ago for a running event, clean n good location. That was my 1st time to Sg.Petani. Foods much cheaper than in Klang Valley.
the best things in sungai petani is river... the river is very big and clean... the name of that river is sungai merbok... and sungai petani also have a very large paddy fields area...
There's this big food court near to the clock tower, selling mainly Chinese dishes. You need to ask the locals, it's quite interesting there with many kopitiams around it.
The donut man and his assistant had a good operation going. That big wok of boiling oil was quite something! Very interesting to see and I wish I could taste some!
❤🧡🧡💛💛💚💚💙💙💜💜💖💖DARLINGS!! This video had everything. Strawberry Apples, Wasps delicious coffin, perfect donuts, racing a rain storm, and our beautiful travelling duo looking attractive and happy!! 🥰🥰🥰💋💋 @Michele and @Steve MUAH!
Love to see more videos of Malays, Indian, Chinese street vendors and restaurant too from you. I love to eat Thosai at Hussain Nasi Kandar in Sungai Petani. Your video at Sungai Petani makes me craving for Thosai. 😁
This is unfair. Sungai Petani is a bustling town with cafes, jogging parks, hypermarkets. Its vicinity also offers touristic material places like Semeling Jetty with a cruise service, Archaeological Museum, ancient Hindu and Buddhist temple, ancient smelting site, seafood restaurants etc.
Ok buddy, maybe next time you come you can go visit a mosque not far away from pekan lama and near the mosque has a nice mee stall that make a delicious mee also kuetiaw 🙂
Just what do you seek when you visit a small town like Sg Petani? A 5- star hotel? A fancy restaurant? MRT? Branded goods? Ferarris and Lambo? Disneyland? Eiffel Tower? The big Ben?? Or where Chief Sitting Bull killed Custer? Just what? If these are what you seek, I suggest you go to UK, France, Italy, US, Switzerland. You cant find those in Sungai Petani.
Yey, Go! Vent that anger 🤣😂 You must watch the videos with closed eyes and blocked ears, otherwise how is it possible to write such vacuous drivel? Try and watch with a brain cell switched on and send your apology with a slice of humble pie..
Did you enjoy the watching how the donuts were made? Do you like to watch the street vendors making their food? Let us know we'd love to hear from you
I watched your nice videos. I hope that you enjoy your trip at reasonable food and hotel prices here.

There's this big food court near to the clock tower, selling mainly Chinese dishes. You need to ask the locals, it's quite interesting there with many kopitiams around it.
We ate just opposite the Clock tower a few times at least.. Very good chicken..
