The way I see it, Skin Deep was a good, legit Chelsea Grin song. Saw it yesterday at Warped, it was great. Clickbait instrumentally is cool, yet I feel it goes into full breakdown way to fast. It lacks content. The lyrics are full douchebag Attila-core. Way too obnoxious and overall weak in my opinion. Then there's Broken Bonds, which I think is one of the most generic, boring, monotonous songs ever written by Chelsea Grin. No riffs at all, just non-stop chugging literally through THE WHOLE SONG. The lyrics did not suite the mood of the song at all, it's repetitive and contradictory (Basically saying "I need you, but fuck you, you left me alone, but i don't give a fuck") and once again they tried to play bad boy way to much by saying "Fuck" like it made them feel more manly. Finally we got this song, which at least is better than Clickbait and Broken Bonds. The lyrics match the vibe of the song, the intro is emotional...it's like a spirit succesor of Don't Ask Don't Tell (Still not as good IMO). So far, the album has been quite of a letdown. Skin Deep gets a 6.5 -7, and this one gets a 6. The other two don't get over 5. Many people are saying that this album is being a dissapointment so far, but I truly mean it as a Chelsea Grin fan who has loved every album from the first EP up to Ashes to Ashes without doubting or hating. This is kinda dissapointing

I like this. I haven't been a CG fan for a long time like most of the people commenting, so I'm not gonna compare it to anything. I'm gonna put it like this; the music is GOOD. There's a variety to it. Nothing is too stale, and the song progresses wonderfully. The instruments are very balanced. Nothing is overdone. Very good CG, I look forward to more music like this

Huh? Surely when they released Evolve EP, you could have said that. This is just one soft song that they've released for this new album, and most probably the only one (have to wait and see).
Evolve wasn't THAT bad for me, personally. Different opinions, I guess. It seems like they're trying to change their image and their sound. For example, they've abandoned their distinct logo in favour of something more clean and accessible. It's not my cup of tea, really. :(

Michael Milligan True, but looking at it, Evolve included clean singing, the music was more melodic, less chuggy, etc. You could say that was the BMTH move. Alex may be opting for a different style perhaps because the band doesn't want to re-release past albums, or his voice is going a bit (I don't have evidence for either, just saying as a possible reason for the change), although the first reason may be the stronger argument.
But you guys are missing my point.. Yes this is a soft song, but listen to the last three singles... tell me if they did the bmth move...

This is different. The lyrics aren't that great, but it's bearable. The song doesn't sound like CG at all, but it's a style they can definitely pull off without sounding too cheesy. Gets better after a few listens, I guess I just expected something heavier.

I used to listen to them when I was a kid like 14/15 yo.. now I'm 21 and looked them up again to check how they're doing, they've changed a lot and they're not even that bad, but they've reach they're peak with Desolation Of Eden and will never reach that level ever again.. they used to be something else. Something different from all the others, now they're just like the others... nothing special about them anymore.
