I celebrated when my kids went off to school. But not for the reason you might think. Its a milestone. They're ready to accomplish on their own. They can learn and choose and make friends. Yes, they'll occasionally stumble, but when they come home they'll tell you about it and you can help them make sense of the world. You know, if you do it it right, they grow up and move out on their own. And if you raise an independent, competent, compassionate human, you've done your job! Congratulations!

I can honestly say I cried when I took my kids to school, ironically I was a teacher in the same building. I knew how fast time would fly once they started school. I treasured the time I was able to shared watching them grow in each class. Now they are all adults and two of them have given me grandchildren 😊. I would say stay busy. Do things you love to do. I love your color palette for the 13 spooky pillows.

I didn’t get upset when mine went to school. It was strange without them for a day or two but I was so excited to see them learn and make friends and become social. It’s amazing to watch how they progress. If you have to sit and cry all day then do it.

Treat yourself to some time at a stitching store while your son is at school. They do grow fast but be ready for stories about his day! My boys both loved school and hanging out with friends.

I live sixty miles from Rapid City. Love the quilt shops we have here. We have taken kids and grandkids to all those places. I have ordered from the Shanty stitcher but have not made it there yet. Know I want to go even more. I was a busy mom who was on our local ambulance and had just had my third baby when my first went to school. I played it by ear, I seen how he reacted and then reacted as a reaction. I think if you are having a bad time, just keep busy. But soon you will all learn the time apart is good. You can get things done while there at school and find you spend more time with them in the evening. My daughter has an only child, and he is going to kindergarten, after pre~K. Now this year there both looking forward to him going back. The time at school will fly by. Love your thirteen smalls. Just got that book.

I am so glad to hear you stopped in at The Shanty Stitchers. I have been singing praises to anyone headed to South Dakota. We are presently living in MS due to aging parents but home is really Lewistown MT. Almost every year we drive back to MT for Fair week and spend time with my husbands siblings. I discovered Shanty Stitchers about 6 years ago and fell in love with the shop. It is always a stop we make and this year we stopped going up and heading home. I LOVE that shop. It is funny to hear your talk about your vacation as we must have passed on the road. We just got back Thursday night lol. My dad was Air Force and we spent about 5 or so years at Ellsworth and I remember all the touristy things. Someday we are moving back home to MT but I already told my hubby we will need to "vacation" in Beresford when that happens. So glad you had a wonderful vacation!

My kids are both adults, but I clearly remember dropping them off for their first days of preschool. With my oldest son, I did the drop off. When we went into the classroom, he ran in and immediately climbed up the indoor slide. When he got to the top, he looked at me like, “What are you still doing here?” and said, “Bye, mom.” Of course when I got outside I lost it and started crying my eyes out. I went shopping and took myself out to lunch to keep myself occupied. With my youngest son, I was working, so after his drop off (I went along in the car but made my husband take him inside because I didn’t want to go to work with tear streaked eyes) I went right to work, which really helped keep my mind occupied. Sending your child off to school for the first time is definitely bitter-sweet.

Love your projects. I too stopped at The Shanty Stitcher on vacation last fall and what a wonderful shop. She has it all and the owner is so friendly. I happened to be the school secretary where my boys attended elementary school, so the separation anxiety did not hit me like it does other moms. I was able to walk by and peek in their rooms during the day. Each day will get easier.

My girls are 10 years apart. I worked with my oldest so I missed her first day of school. When my youngest went to Kindergarten, I was a stay at home Mom. I was so afraid she wouldn't do well on the bus but she was totally fine with it. I always wrote her a note on a napkin and drew a small picture of a dog or cat so when snack time rolled around she would get a little surprise. Parker will probably do very well and that will put your mind at ease. Meeting new friends at school always makes their day better. Your smalls are too cute, Holly!

I was always a full time working mom so my daughter started daycare at 8 weeks. I went back to work at six weeks but my sister in law took her the first two. So you wouldn’t think school would have been a big deal to us but it was. I was tearing up when I brought her. There were just so many kids, parents teachers everywhere I was worried about my tiny little girl being out of her protective environment that she had at the same daycare for all of those years. Since you’re a stay at home mom I would recommend doing something fun for yourself, lunch with friends, movies, manicure anything that’s hard to do when he’s home that you enjoy. I really loved the video and all of your projects thank you!

Have something fun planned for the first few days. It’s so much easier for the teachers if you hug, drop, and leave. Lingering parents make other children cry as well as yours. They stop crying as soon as you leave 95% of the time. Also be prepared that they may struggle after a holiday or long weekend. It’s normal. They adjust much more quickly as the year goes on. Wish Parker was in my class! I have all the farm fun and so many diggers.

I absolutely love your Halloween color conversion! A couple of things I’ve done when sending my kids off to school is host a first day of school coffee/breakfast for some other people that were also sending their kids after school. Basically the kids either got dropped off or put on the bus, then met at my house for coffee and muffins, etc. Another option would be to get together and pray for your kids and teachers, staff. There was a moms in prayer group in our town, and we prayed through the entire school system, as well as our kids. It’s really special to do some thing that covers your town in good. Be strong mama!

Then, I throw myself into projects that are way out of my comfort zone for distraction so they take all of my attention to try and figure out. 😅 You could start a pattern you’ve been putting off because it looks difficult or try your hand at making a quilt block! I wish you and Parker a good first day of school 😊

Good Luck sending Parker to school! My kids are pretty independent, so they ran off and made friends. They didn't look back at Mom. I did help them meet the shy kids who needed a buddy and to this day, the kids are still friends. I stood with a high school friend and we talked about how awesome we were as moms to not be crying. I love setting them free each year to make friends, explore, and learn as they grow. I love your idea to do something with your hubby.

That first day of school is hard! I thought my oldest would be clingy & she was fine. Her teacher sang a song & the only part I remember was the ending! Bye Mommy & Daddy we don't need you anymore...not quite that harsh it was cute. I couldn't get out the door fast enough so my daughter wouldn't see me crying. Then when it was our youngest turn I wasn't concerned, she was independent! She cried & clung to me! I was thankful my husband was with me, it startled both of us. She was fine after the first day. Long story to tell you Parker will do great & so will you, the firsts are difficult! Cute pillows & your finishing is adorable!

So that was a nice distraction. But when my youngest started school I made sure I was going back to full time work at my office so I didn’t have to go home afterwards. That was tough. Hang in there. Holly, I use the little plastic bags you can get at JoAnn's to store my floss. I write the DMC number on the outside. If I have a fancy floss I leave the floss drop on and can see it thru the plastic. The bags have a hole so you can put it on a ring. Keeps the floss from getting raggedy. Thanks!!😻👍

Leaving my daughter at Kindergarten the first day was one of the hardest things I have ever done! She had been to preschool but that was like glorified babysitting and only a few hours. This was so different! She was ready and excited while I was a mess inside. My suggestion is to make a list of things that bring you joy and do those while he is at school. Be selfish for yourself. The time will hopefully fly by. On the day of, be prepared for children crying...if not yours, there will be others, and that may trigger yours. Just keep telling yourself it will be all right (because it will). Sending you sweet thoughts.♥
