These budget boost builds are the shit! Im surprised this channel hasn't taken off way more. It really should. This type of shit is right up my alley. 👍
Literally same bro RUclips recommendations have gotten scary lol this is the exact content I dream of
it's youtubes stupid algorithm crap wants me to watch cartels at the boarder or some stupid stuff i've never even searched or am interested in, i literally look up mechanic stuff or video games
Yeah its screw the name Brand lets sale product ….its lets make this shit work and show the poor folks they can experience turbo love too….fuck it !!! FULLL SEND THAT SHIT!!! OK..HOLD MY BEER WATCH THIS SHIT!!!!!!!
Because utube keeps em down and diverts traffic for views to bigger earners they already have an agreement with. These guys will sell advertising to folks cheaper early on so utube gets cut out till they promote em themselves.
Utube will get this comment gone in a couple mins based on key words in one comment
I’d love to see you guys budget boost a 4.0 l6 in like a xj Cherokee. I know it’s been done but would be fun to watch y’all beat on it.
this! i know they were using what they had, but the 4.0 is a much better platform
Needed parts for my 97 XJ. Every part store I went to a guy had a story of a XJ driving w a rod or inspection hole in the block and made it home. Absolute beasts. Not the renix!! Gota be the 4.0HO
Some guys on another channel got 400HP and the same torque out of a 92 (stock) HP Slant 6
I would also love to see this, cuz i want to turbo mine for better top end
I second this as I’m really wanting to turbo my 4.0 grand Cherokee.
I need some homies that'll embrace beating on a stock everything, budget boost vehicle without a boost gauge or wideband. Y'all seem like a party. Also really inspiring me to grab a HF flux core and send it on anything that needs hotsnotted. Happy I stumbled across you dudes.
It's the way lol
Do it. Did my 1.8VVT miata turbo kit with ecu and injectors for around 17-1800. It's seen 15.2psi but now set to around 10/11psi
You live near Washington state?
@@ihulk1 @ihulk1 Okay, well this wildly coincidental. What are you running for engine management and how's it treating you? I know there's speeduino and beermoney/rusefi on the bargain end but there's not a ton of documentation out there on the VVT motors that I could find. And ms3 is too doggone expensive for me to justify. You running a reroute? TELL ME MORE MAN!
Are you on IG? It's easier to flood you with dumb questions there than youtube comments lol.
@@brutalbasspro mannn, I'm on the complete opposite corner of the country lol.
Doing all that with a flux core welder is insanely impressive
All we've ever had 😅
@@BoostandBadHabits exactly.. us to.. luv u guy's
I always wanted to know if these Jeeps could actually scoot 😂😂
My 93 4.0 manual with 4:10 and 30 inch tires and trac lok would boogie
@@RUclipscensoredmyusernamemy 4.0 rips too with srt4 injectors, nv3550 and 4.10s its kinda funny
@@RUclipscensoredmyusernamethe 4.0 has twice the HP as the 4cyl tho😮
@@fastinradfordable it’s rated hp 120v 190. 4/6 is a tiny number. For both tho
Drive one. Even stock they scoot for what they are. Puts garbage ass side by sides to shame that’s for sure, I own a jeep and have ran many SxS. Jeep less than 10k, side by sides that can go where a jeep can cost 50k plus and run 5000 miles before needing rebuilt.
I would have went with a smaller turbo, looks like fun i did this almost 20 years ago in a Civic I used a junkyard turbo and welded it up ran my own charp pipes using radiator hoses with an intercooler out of a stock GST, back in those days it was unheard of was running about 8lbs of boost it was awesome this brought back memories, I gave a lot of V8's hell back then 😅
Smaller turbos are harder on the motors. A little lag never hurt nobody lol.
Absolutely love this series, you guys are awesome!!
Those transmissions were not known for being very strong, so you may want to consider upgrading to an AX15 later on if you plan to keep the boost up at all.
T5 or the d35 spiders, one will explode driving like that.

@jw3812 so you are saying it's not a t5? Still, d35 spiders are glass.

HELL YEAH THE SERIES WE DIDNT KNOW WE NEEDED UNTIL WE GOT IT!
"Turbos the only muffler a man needs" I STAND ON DAT!! 💯💯💯
Was hoping to see you guys boost a 3.9 but this is even more exciting, hardly anyone boosts the 2.5
I just sold my 95 YJ with the 2.5l and always wanted to do this. If I could rewind the time...
Very cool. I did tons of work and mods over the years, and never had a welder. Bought a Yes Welder that does Flux, MIG, TIG, stick. Everything got easier after that. No more bolting plates of metal together to make brackets and other stupid crap. Well worth the investment.
I put Ford Mustang 4 hole injectors in my 2.5, no modifications. It might help your wideband numbers under hard acceleration...fun video!
I hope your channel blows up, love these budget turbo builds. Videos keep getting better. Can you put your builds in a playlist for each car, I want to watch a build but I have to sort through tons of videos to find the next update
Appreciate it 🙌. I'll give it a try
@@BoostandBadHabitsyou really should
@@BoostandBadHabits what size injectors do you guys put in the jeep? This video actually inspired me and made me turbo my 2.5 but it’s defueling
Internally gated turbos are great for setups where space is at a premium, sure you're stuck with a minimum boost of whatever the actuator is set at (controller can always turn it up but can't ever turn it down) however you can buy aftermarket billet actuators with full set of replaceable springs for 130$ or so and can set your minimum boost to whatever you want. You can do the same with a stock actuator by cutting it apart and cutting the spring/etc but pain in the ass and not worth it over just getting the billet mamba or kinguawa actuator. . . I have a Chinese GTX2860r with the kinguawa actuator on my mk1b MR2 and it works great, my particular setup is 12psi but creeps to 15, but you can put whatever spring you want in it down to 3psi or something, just something to consider don't fully write off internal wastegates just yet
For sure, We was just in a time crunch getting the video done and didn't have time to wait and order anything. We had a cheap china external gate laying around already and was the quickest fix.
Videos like this one (turbo budget builds) are your bread and butter , not many others are doing it at least not on this level.
Kind of like when VGG basically created the 'will it drive' genre on YT, and Will is straight up YT gold !
You have all the ingredients to hit well over 100k Subs. Would love to see a budget turbo build on a classic car
carburetor setup something like my AMC Hornet small block .304. Also Rumble is taking off big time is not as saturated as YT
and you can easily like the 2 channels.🔥🔥🔥
I have a 97 Dakota with the AMC 2.5 and its hilarious watching this engine hold some boost ! Super underrated channel.
That’s not an amc, unless you transplanted one.
@@TheMajictech You might want to educate yourself on 90's Chrysler products. The 2.5 is an AMC engine.
@@discretion4362 oh it is? So exactly what qualifies it is one? Here are some of the many things that changed, The compression ratio, the combustion chamber shape, the composition of the metals used in several part’s including the block the fuel induction and management. How many amc 2.5 engines suffered the marbling noise the Chrysler tsbs covered through the 90s into the early 2000s? Yes the 2.5 was originally designed by amc engineers, but a hell of a lot changed since Chrysler acquired amc. (Note, when people refer to the 2.5 as the “iron duke” they are unwittingly referring to the gm 2.5 amc first used in amc production that shared the gm 60 degree bellhousing pattern because it was sourced from gm.) So since we’re going down this road of who first put the pencil to paper on an engineering design, we can also include every Dodge Durango, Dodge Dakota, Dodge Ram 1500, Dodge Nitro, and Chrysler Aspen powered by the PowerTech 3.7L V-6 and 4.7L V-8 engines, both of which were designed by AMC engineers before the Chrysler purchase, but not actually put into production until after the purchase. So how many flight miles does one have to have under their belt flying back and forth to Chrysler tech centers does one need to log before they are considered educated? I have hundreds of thousands, In fact I was a certified Chrysler technician in the mid 2000s.
@@TheMajictech Arguments like this are for contrarians. Every engine undergoes multiple iterations from its original design. Compression ratio, combustion chamber shape, and metals used dont make the 2.5 in the Dakota or Jeep a completely different engine. If anything these are necessary adaptations made for efficiency when EFI became mainstreamed. By definition Chryslers acquisition of AMC makes this an AMC engine design regardless. Please stop trying to argue technicalities in a youtube comments section. Its downright cringe. Ive seen multiple 2.5's in jeeps and dakotas crest 400k and even 500k miles. This is one of the more reliable 4 cyl production engines ever made.
@@discretion4362 then by that logic it’s a Willy’s overland or a Kaiser engine. It was just changes made since they owned it. Do you even know how many times the jeep moniker was sold before amc acquired it? Nobody argued anything about the longevity of the engine, now you’re cringing about an argument with yourself snowflake. 😂
Badass boosted 2.5 in that ol unit, she looks pretty good for a daily driven Jeep! Looks he's still got a healthy amt of room in that engine bay for a big V8 w with a turbo, I know its been done before but you already know its gotta be said. Hype to see more content keep killin it dudes!
I've got a 350 in my YJs engine bay, there's definitely room for a turbo too
Had a all stock 98 grand cherokee 4.0l driveway build ran external wastegate 10lbs boost and the 4.0 loved it
I loved og boosted boys because of this kinda content. They definitely changed a lot since then
My wife has a 2021 jeep wrangler with a 4 cylinder turbo factory tuned engine. It takes off waaaay too fast for a jeep. Love it
Thing is sweet. I have a turbo crown vic and previously had a turbo 5.2 ZJ so this is exactly the kind of thing Id build lol. I bet if you tossed an old walbro in the tank and an old vortech FMU on it it'd be safe at 10lbs
I think I have both of those things laying around.
I love the fact that y’all used a flux core welder, I have the exact same one and I have done many-a remote jobs with that little thing. You guys rock!
Awesome series idea these videos are great. Maybe I’ll boost my ZJ one day 😂
Thats cool how y'all done that. The budget builds are closer to reality for most of us in the real world. Id like to do the same project on my 94 OBS Chev. I hope the best for y'all's channel and hope it takes off. Be tryin to spread the word for y'all and hopefully reach the year end goal.👍
You should put a cheap walboro 255 and a fmu in it and it will probably live a long time. Could even bump it up to probably 8 psi no issues then
Did this to a yj years ago, small turbo from a backhoe no wastegate, c clamp on the fuel return line to bump up the fuel pressure, made awesome whistley noises but couldn't figure out how to back the timing off enough to make any power with it..
Hell yeah brother this is going to be good 💯
I installed one of these turbos on my truck and had the same problem with it making all the boost. Took it apart to find out the wastegate port in the housing is only 5/8" so I ported it to 1" and it dropped it down around 5-6psi!
i absolutely love these videos because i really wanna turbocharge a shitbox with my bud whos a pipe welder
You guys are 2 minutes from my house. I pass the shop all the time! And have watched for a decent while too. Love the videos. Been wanting to have a RUclips channel like this
Having the inter cooler behind the hot radiator wouldn’t that be a interheater instead of cooler? I would assume the air going in would be cooler than the exit but still pretty cool build and love watching the budget builds for fun.
My favorite video to date!
If you guys buy an adjustable fuel pressure reg and even cheap walbro 255's and a wideband to take between cars you could throw some fuel into them and make them work a lot better for a lot longer.
100%, we're just trying to keep it as cheap as possible in terms of turboing it for the video. Now a 2nd video on it for sure, but no shot I'm swapping regulator and pump between builds 😅. If they show potential they'll all get they're own.
Oh I meant just swap the wideband between them all to get the fueling close lmao, Fuk swapping pumps and a reg. I should have used better punctuation lmao.@@BoostandBadHabits
Love the 2.5!! Replace the chain and tensioner the tensioner has plastic teeth they are known to strip out and cause chain slap
Hell yeah , might look at a little YJ with a 2.5 now .
Was looking at the same jeep and everyone saying don’t bother it’s the 2.5. This is cool!
Thank you thank you thank you for including all the costs. That is all I ever needed. Great video!
So curious about that turbo on the Jeep! Looks like the “Safari” street version. I just put that into my L28et swapped 240z and have the same train of thought about the wastegate 😅😅 not going external but looking at turbo smart IWG75
That shit is awesome, Mechanic here and i have a beast 4.0 Mud Rig, i have always dreamt of slapping a blower on it. that is so cool you guys did it. I have a good turbo i got off a mazdaspeed 3 i worked on, i might fab that to my jeep!
Just a bunch of good old boys, educational and productive, its real content that's well filmed and explained. I have seen every episode, wish for them to come up. Cant wait for the dodge neon 5.7 liter hemi motor swap. Good job fellows

I'm excited watching this. I have a 89 with 2.5 been wanting to do this to it.

I can smell the clutch on that jeep from Guyton Georgia! Great video!
I love this so much!!, Im currently in the middle of adding a turbo to my 98 tj with the 2.5l what did you guys do to get the AFR to where it needed to be? also has it blown up? lol
I wanted to do this to my YJ but it's the same power as a stock 4.0ltr. Sold that jeep, bought a XJ.

Not lower though,only higher
@@BoostandBadHabits man, that’s crazy that was as low as the stock spring goes.

@@dadgarage7966 like.....
Mines been fine. 5lbs of boost. The thing is the boost kicks in about 2800 rpms. It rolls in gently and when you let off and shift it rolls back into boost gently. I hardly get into boost at all in town. I'd have to really be getting into it just to make it build any boost at all in 1rst gear by that time I have to get 2nd gear anyways. Quite a bit of lag. You really start rolling by the end of 3rd gear. It's a very gentle power curve.
@@BWalker-yg9enI'm looking to add a turbo to my 2000 2.5 Dakota with running 5 lbs of boost will I need to tune my ECU?
@@3dcowboy1980 no. I didn't. I'm running a couple one way valves to bleed pressure away from the map sensor. I'd definitely run an intercooler and premium gas. I also run an adjustable wastegate. I wouldn't drive it like a race car though if you have an ax5. My turbo helps me up long steep mountain roads mostly. I didn't install it for hot roding purposes. I have well over 10k miles on my setup with no real problems. Hills I used to climb at 35 mph in 3rd I can do 60 in 5th now so there's a big difference.
Should have caught the boost guage being bad when it would not draw a vacuum. And a BOV would help with the boost spikes.
It doesn't show vacuum because it's T'd inline between the turbo and wastegate. There's no vacuum there for it to read. Have to move the gauges source to the intake manifold to read vacuum
The boost gauge may not work because it needs a reference to the MAP sensor. At idle the needle should be towards the bottom of the gauge and then get closer to 0 as pressure increases then above 0 once on boost. Since it stays center it's not getting any kind of reference to tell the gauge which way to go. Or one of the wires are on wrong
It didn't work because it was kinked shut under the dash. It stays at 0 because there's no vacuum reference being T'd between the wastegate and turbo.
@@BoostandBadHabits That's kinda what I said. I had the right idea. Just wrong wording
Love the video guys. This Aussie is a new subscriber.
YJ 2.5 4 cylinder! I tried so hard to pop that motor, but it never would!
@4:30 Meanwhile, my 2.4 L truck my 2 L car and my 1.6 L car are all straight pipe and louder than fuck Because theyre na and that’s even louder because you’re right A turbo does act like a muffler to a degree. When I say straight pipe, I mean that term precisely I mean like long tube headers no mufflers no cats not just cat back, And headers make it even louder than straight piping with an exhaust manifold. Since there’s more flow and better flow.
Always enjoy watching your videos just no bullshit get it done additude
THAT IS A BAD ASS JEEP BUDDY
you guys need to learn how to hook up the arduino and speeduino ecu . cheap and can tune for boost and fuel.
"go from a 100hp to 105"...dammit you said it before i could comment it 😂
I love this :D The jeep owner just staring at his jeep with the turbo installed :D
I always thought you would have to spend 2-3000 dollars on a turbo set up, here you can do it fro right around a 1000 bucks.
