So glad you included James Finlayson aka Fin/Finn/Jimmy/Jim and Thelma Todd, both are severally underrated; Todd died so young and tragic as well.

Stan and Olly has been making me laugh since I was 3 years old and my grandma got a two channel black and white TV. They are still making laugh at the age of 66 years old, from my Apple iPad. I now share the RUclips videos with my grandchildren. There has been100 years and 8 generations of Laurel and Hardy fans in my family tree.

I'll never forget in the early 70's, I was in high school, and one of our auditoriums they showed a group of us the classic award winning Laurel & Hardy film, The Music Box. I will never forget it. I had never seen it prior to this showing, though I watched their films all through childhood. I literally laughed so hard, throughout, tears rolled down my cheeks. I couldn't stop! What a couple of big hearted, comedic geniuses. Their comedy, and humanity have literally transcended all generations, and truly made laughter the universal language. I loved them dearly growing up, but The Music Box experience set them atop a pedestal in my heart to which no one else ever managed to climb. R.I.P you two beautiful souls. This world could really use you right now.

Thank you for doing this video. These were extremely talented men who didn't have to be vulgar or cussing to make you laugh. No, they had to use their imaginations! I love Stan and Oliver comedy team and will watch them as long as I live. They always make me laugh and smile. What better medicine! May they Rest In Peace.

Truly a heartwarmimg and bittersweet exploration into their career and care for one another.
As a big fan myself it is VERY difficult to think of just one moment but I'll try.
In Oliver the 8th, Ollie is knocked out and Stan thinks he fell asleep in the chair. He worries that Ollie might catch a cold and covers him up.
Then in The Flying Deuces when Oliver is heartbroken Stan embraces and comforts him very lovingly.
Oliver was known to have a great singing voice and was often asked to sing. Lois recounted Oliver would sing to her. I would like to think in their private moments together Babe sung to Stan from time to time and Ollie can sing to Stan and all of their loved ones in heaven for all eternity.
And in final I never done this, I would like to thank the patrons for this series as a Stan and Ollie fan. This was very well put together and on the behalf of a greatful community from one greatful fan, I salute you all.

Beautiful. Brought back memories of watching silent comedy movies on Saturday mornings such as Oliver and Hardy, Keystone Cops, Buster Keaton etc followed by the early “talkies” This would be the early 60s and what makes it special is it was with my beloved dad and how he would laugh, he had an amazing rich belly laugh which filled my childhood.

My mother lived next door to James Finlayson when she was growing up on Canyon Dr. I am a native of Culver City; I never saw Hal Roach Studio but I knew Mrs. Culver and their daughter Pat very well. My dad's parents lived across the street from the Culvers on Delmas Terrace in the 1920s. The Culver Hotel was originally called "The Hotel Hunt" in 1924, and Mr. Culver's office was on the 2nd floor at the 'point' of the triangular building. The hotel was once owned by John Wayne too, and its claim to fame is that it housed the Munchkins while they were shooting the Wizard of Oz. Stan Laurel's daughter married one of the cast from Gone With the Wind and they lived on Fairbanks Way around the block from us- I think the family still lives in the house. Stan's son-in-law operated a Western shop on Slauson near the Fox Hills Mall (now Westfield Mall) nearby for many years. Wish I could've met Stan, but he died before I was born. Thank you for including info about Culver City

Thank you very much for these two videos! I have been a great fan of Laurel and Hardy since seeing them on television in the 1950s, when I was a boy. It is gratifying to see their fame grow ever greater with the passing years.
Of all the great comedians that I have had the pleasure of enjoying in different media, their characters are the only ones that, if they were real-life people, I would want to know them - to talk with them, share observations to befriend them, and cherish my friendship with them. Their gentleness (for all the mayhem they caused!) and accessibility have always drawn me to them.
As an example, take a look at the first moments of “Towed in a Hole,” when they are discussing whether to catch their own fish to sell, rather than rely on a middleman. You know you’re watching a film with two actors playing their roles.
But they play their roles such that it’s like eavesdropping on the other side of a fence, just listening to two real-life guys talking! Unless all of their motion pictures disappear and/or are destroyed, there is really no danger of audiences forgetting them. God Bless media like RUclips for continually making the genius of Laurel and Hardy’s immortality last for the ages.
    Again, thanks for your videos!

Some years ago, in the mid-80s I guess, I was at Forest Lawn cemetery to attend a singing performance by my young daughter, who was there to perform in an auditorium on the grounds. Before the show was to begin, I wandered around outside and stumbled onto the final resting place of Stan Laurel. I was so amazed that I just stood by the marker, hanging out with the funniest man I had ever seen on the screen. I did manage to get back to listen to the choir where my daughter was singing, and enjoyed that immensely, too. What an amazing day.
When I stumbled onto these videos, I was taken back. So glad to have found this series.

I'm amazed that these two presentations have been here for two years without my seeing them until today! I suspect that we are fellow L&H nuts, and that case, you had to do a lot of editing to get to the basics of all of those bios. Your writing alone deserves some kind of award. Your choices of film clips were perfectly appropriate and had me laughing even while watching this on a computer monitor. Let's also consider your great voiceover work. All that training DID pay off! I'm sure that this project took an incredible amount of research and a WHOLE lot of ambition, and I hope that others who watch these appreciate that as much as I do. Thank you very much!

I highly recommend that you check out the "Letters from Stan" website. In his later life he wrote very movingly about his old partner.

thanks for this wonderful tribute to Stan and Olly and to their wonderful co stars, I always liked Mae Busch's characters in their shorts, brilliant! glad she was finally interred after' the sons of the desert ' stepped in to give her a proper resting place. If I'm ever feeling blue I put on a laurel and Hardy and am soon cheered up,

Fabulous video #2. I thought Mae Busch was a great tribute to her here. I had tears in my eyes during the endings of Oliver and Stan. I was a boy enjoying their movie with my grandmother and I am now 76 and still watch Laurel and Hardy movies. Thank you for making these wonderful memories of all the great talent. that worked with the boys come alive again.

Tenho 53 anos, e não me canso de assistir aos filmes de Stan e Oliver. Ambos são imortais. Parabéns pela postagem, e não escondo as minhas lágrimas quando assisto a um documentário tão bom e completo. *

This was excellent! Mae Busch is my absolute favorite of Laurel & Hardy regulars, thank you for giving her special attention. I also love Gertrude Astor and Isabelle Keith. Maybe a Part 2 could include them lol. Thanks again. This was really well done.

Just an awesome retrospective on two of the greatest, if not the greatest, comedians ever and on the other incredible talents who supported them. It is hard to see the greats succumb. I feel the same way about Abbott and Costello. Watching this documentary makes me want to do a binge of L and H. Again, an awesome job by Grave Explorations. This film/video is absolutely network worthy.

Matt, In commending your works, I find myself running out of words of acclaim. I looked forward eagerly to this Part 2, and it was everything I could have anticipated. You know my opinion of your body of work, and I maintain that your videos should be aired on a major network, most appropriately PBS, in light of their educational significance and artistic appeal. I continue to be a fan of you and your work, and urge you to persist in pursuing your craft. You truly have a gift.
