    I’ve ridden a couple and I can confirm that the 660 is a nice overall bike to ride. Its the look of the bike I think let it down.

    i have 18k on my tuareg 660. When pushed hard on dirt. It's to soft in the front creating dive and overload the front tyre. [even with better tyres Mitas me9 Dakar] I have fitted an Andreani kit heavy springs and twice the dampening in the front forks. It's got all the fruit! Awesome Bike.

    The issue with the Tuareg is that you ride one and you really want to take it home. I think they are that good.

      Ha ha, that's exactly what happened when my son rode this one home when we picked it up. Was trying to figure out how he could justify the extra expense over his DR650. ;)

    I love the utilitarian basic raw nature of the DR also. Just a short trail ride on the Tuareg and it is the only modern bike i immediately felt i could gladly own one.

    Move away from the prehistoric DR / 0:52 RE tat !!

    You can turn the ABS off altogether in Offroad mode by pressing and holding the Mode button. This is the only setting that is reset where the engine ignition is cycled.
    You can change the traction control (when criuse control is not in use) by holding the cruise control button back.
    And you can configure the settings to your personal taste in Offroad and Individual mode via the menu. Otherwise you never need to go into the menu.

    American here. I’d absolutely love one of these as a second mixed road/dirt bike to go with my DR650. Something that I’m happier riding further than my bushpig. But the biggest problem we have here is Aprilia (while making great bikes) has so little dealer network. You know it’s bad when Ducati has a better presence than they do.

    Curtis from "On The Back Wheel" gave this bike a complete on road, off road test, and he raved about it.

  • @volvogt21

    Great bike fair price. 18990 ride away would have bought a new one. Local dealer has one with 2k on it for 18. Nobody is paying RRP. You also have to factor in its a quarter of the way to a very expensive 20k service. Great motor. Reasonably light beautiful balance crap parts availability. I have 4 parts on back order as we speak. God only knows when I will get them. Peter stevens /Monza really need to lift their game big time. I hope he has a spare bike or two. Biggest issue buying 2nd hand for him is not being able to extend the warranty to 5 years unlimited km. As a ducati and aprilia owner this was the main reason for me to go new on something so potentially expensive to own. And a toureg is a Volkswagen. This is Tuareg (Twah-reg) the Tuareg inhabit the sahara and are depicted by the Dakar motif.

      @fjrsteve 10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi volvogt21. I have the extended warranty on the bike. The Aprilia warranty is on the bike (Vin#) regardless of the current owner, so it transfers when registered on the Aprilia website.

    Original Exhaust is not needed, as long as current unit meets EPA regulations. all my bikes i sell pass roadworthy and the original exhausts are never involved.

    • @fjrsteve
      @fjrsteve 10 месяцев назад +2

      That's interesting as 2 different dealers said the original system had to be fitted on the Tuareg as it was required by Vic Roads. Also my son had to borrow my original DRZ muffler to replace an aftermarket muffler for the same reason. His DRZ one was actually quieter than the standard. Yesterday I was told by my Yamaha dealer to fit the standard mufflers back on the FJR if I want a roadworthy from them for the same reason. Maybe give a shout out to your RWC place for others to use? Certainly would make life easier. :)

      @@wobblysauce Agreed. If its the stock exhaust it is easy. With an aftermarket exhaust they need to test the sound.... and no one got time for dat!

      my 2 RWC (Metro melb) places have never bothered me about non standard exhausts. I've had 4 rwcs done in the last year. Last was a 2500km DR650 with a screaming demon exhaust. they didn't even look at it. I'm not going to mention who they are if they are just in case they are doing me a favour.....

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce 10 месяцев назад

      @@volvogt21 They are, most know people are just going to switch it back if they ask for a stock install, different if you are stopped by the Police and given the yellow defect sticker, where a lot of people demod and remod when they get it back home.
      Know some that would even swap engines, funny Classic Registration trickery.

      the motor has been around for four years - early issues has been rectified. will it be any good at 100k - who knows. if bmw made this bike they'd sell like hotcakes. sadly everything they make is bloated to the extreme. Their midweight adv bike the 850gsa is 245kg ffs.
