Thanks very much, Trainrider1031. The Metroliner I mentioned was a test train conducted by Penn Central in 1965. The test was successful, but made PC realize that several track straightenings and adjustments were needed to make the NEC okay for high-speed action. As for the PL42s, I am not entirely sure. Possibly RVL moves, but I will not say for sure. Thanks again!
Thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the ACES trains begin revenue service on the 9th of February. The exteriors have been repainted into the ACES theme, and the interiors are incredible. Seriously -- coach has leather seats with great headrests. First class has leather seats that are so wide you can probably fit two people on each seat. Plus, there is a lounge car that offers snacks and beverages. This is one train NJT will be proud of!
On the last page of the book, there are "Tips for traveling on Amtrak". Tip 9 is "Look for scenic photo opportunities. Our trains pass many beautiful and interesting sights, so bring your camera. If you use film, we recommend medium speed (ISO 200 or higher)".
Yes it was.. and yes they can! They use the electric engine (ALP44M) under the electrified track (New York to Philadelphia),then the diesel (P40BH) to Atlantic City over the nonelectrified zone.
Seriously, this was your best video EVER! I knew NJT was going to start running ACES soon, but I didn't know when. Now after seeing these test runs, I'm guessing they will be starting official service by the time Spring rolls around. What caught my eye here were the repainted Bi-Level cars. I had no clue NJT would repaint them for this service. I wonder if the interiors are different too. Another interesting catch in this video was at 2:23 with the 5 car Regional. That's rare!
The power change is why it has a diesel up front with an electric on the back. The diesel acts as a cab on the NEC up to Philadelphia, then the electric locomotive lowers its pantograph and the diesel takes over for the run to Atlantic City.
Excellent man the best video yet i like the narration the best! Great catch on those aces trains i was wondering how they were going to deal with the power change since it starts in NYP. Thanks again!!!
They look pretty similar.. but the PL42 has an EMD 16-710G3C-T1 prime mover and is made by EMD and Alstom, whereas the P40 has a GE 7FDL16 and is made solely by General Electric. Thanks for stopping by!
Great Video. Great catch with the ACES test trains. Dont listen to the conductor about not being allowed to take pics or vids. You are allowed. Grea stuff and keep up the good work. Ohhh yeah BTW, I will be out to take vids in the snow. Thanks for the heads up earlier. Will probably stay local
Well.. before taking the train to PJC, I was at Hamilton for about a half an hour. After returning FROM PJC, I remained at Hamilton for another 20 - 35 minutes
not all ACES is electrified, thats why Electric brings up the rear allowing it to reach Penn btw, is that a NJT AEM7 or does it have different classification?
I've made dozens of videos since this one (which was uploaded in 2009), with better equipment and more practice with voiceovers! I hope you'll take a look at them if you get a chance to! Thanks for stopping by!
That was in fact not a PL42AC locomotive, that was a GE-P40DC locomotive bought from Amtrak last year. That would be a ACES (Atlantic City Express Service) brake test train, that will be for the new ACES service coming up in a few months, and those multilevels are Comet VI multilevels, the same they had, just in new ACES paint, those will only go on the ACES service and nothing else on the ACL and NEC, and some NJ Transit painted cars will be part of that service too, with the PL42AC.
Nah A P42DC Switch the traction motors to AC slap a third rail shoe on there. Then just add a pantograph. Upgrade the HEP and lengthen the locomotive to have the electrical equipment and increased fuel storage. Bam A P42AC-TM A triple-mode beast that would be freakin amazing but amtrak doesn't have money for an insane experiment like that
This is a great vid, I loved it! That conductor was stupid. I had Amtrak police tell me before that I wasn't allowed to take pictures of trains, I didn't know that I had moved to Russia! Is that crazy or what? This is your bet video yet, keep up the great work! 5* rate!
First of all, another excellent production! Second, I really enjoyed the narration. In fact, I'd suggest a little more narration, ID'ing the various locomotives, particularly for those of us who don't live near the NEC, and aren't familiar with electric power. Finally, I assume the "no photo" remark by the conductor was for security. I think it's bunk. Do you ever get hasseled for taking pics at the stations? What's next....asking to see your papers?!? Thanks again! Mike
NJT trains are good for 90+ from Trenton to Princeton JCT. NE Regional trains are good for 125 from PA to a few miles past Princeton Acela sets are good for 135 from the PA border to a few miles east of PJC.
Np! And that's pretty cool to hear! If you'll be able to drive around, I could give you a few tips for a secret location I have ;D No one knows about it! Mwahaha. But, they will after I upload videos from there. Lol. But enjoy your trip out here! I hope you catch some good shots
Lounge cars? Man that's going to be something. After hearing that information, I really want to ride this. How many ACES will NJT run daily? Because I get the feeling this service will be competition against a few Regional and Keystone trains between New York and Philly.
What video editing program do you use? I watch a whole lot of your videos and they are all great! You deserve a sub from me. Great work TrainiacProductions.
what in the world, who says you cant take pictures on board. i checked the rule book. there is nothing about it in there. i must be a conductor on a different new jersey transit.
What an incredible legacy the PRR left behind with the Northeast Corridor. Probably couldn't be built today. Runs like clockwork too.
Couldn't agree more with each of your statements! Every inch of the NEC is fascinating and awe inspiring. Thanks for watching, Brock!

I hope we have the NJ TRANSIT ATLANTIC CITY EXPRESS SERVICE forever! Cause I've got to film it!!
I'd love to see ACES make a return! I miss it, it was really cool. Thank you so much for watching!

Thanks for the excellent photography. I especially appreciate your commentary. Thanks for that too.
Amazing video! - some boy in December 2024

Probably the best Trainiac episode ever. Nice luck with equipment here too. The narration is sweet. You are the MASTER of this!
Good narration, makes the video much more intresting knowing what your looking at.
Wow! Thank you so much for your comment, Adam! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!

NJT Amtrak Railfan i
Thank You very much!
Awesome! This is one of your best yet.

Excellent Video Jim!! Great narration!!
Thanks Matt!

Oh next time im in Baltimore i hope i can get a few shots of some of those trains, great video!
Thanks very much! I'm glad that you liked it! And yes, so am I! I can't wait to ride it!
niec vid Kyle! I dont mind the narration but i still like it with silence! LOl Nice Vid again Kyle
Well.. before taking the train to PJC, I was at Hamilton for about a half an hour. After returning FROM PJC, I remained at Hamilton for another 20 - 35 minutes
Great Video This Was an Fantastic Video I think the Narriation was Pretty Clever
this video is your best ever and i mean it!!!!! lots of great trains especial the alantic city express service test train
Great video. Narration was pretty good for a first timer. Keep it up.
Thanks Corey! I appreciate it!

amazing video nice Atlantic city test train
No problem your videos are amazing
no problem it was worth watching
nice video dude!
Thanks! And no problem!
Thanks!
@TrainiacProductions they probably would run the NJT trains at those faster speeds if the cars could handle it cause i know the ALP46A's can go 125
Great video.
Good stuff! Great job with the narration, too.
Very nice catches jim.
Awesome video!

@TrainiacProductions GE should make a Genesis model with pantograph, now thats a duel mode engine!

nice video. and NJT got rid of the permit requirement years ago.
Wow, hard to believe that 2009 was 11 years ago. Feels like yesterday.
Couldn't agree more, Gabe. It's crazy how fast time really flies. Not a fan!
wow gr8 action clip
whats the NJT and Amtrak speed through Hamilton NJ and Prinston JCT?
First of all, another excellent production!

Aha thanks John!

Was that PL42AC running down to ACL line? If so why? Capcity required or testing for that route?
I hope to catch the opening train on February 7. But, with the Comet VI/ PL42 sets; they're going to be used on ACES?
Missed the ALP-44 and AEM-7s (AKA Toasters)
Great one! There's a phase 4 amfleet at 02:49!
I've seen locomotive hauled NJT trains hit 100 mph between New Brunswick and Princeton Junction, but I've never seen Arrow IIIs break 80 mph.
Great video. And a big Boo to that conductor.
Exccellant Video
It sure is!
at one point i kept thinking that pl42s were the same thing as p40s
Ohh... I completely forgot about that. Thanks for the correction
(I may be wrong) but NJT is 90 MPH for both, and Amtrak is 125 Hamilton 115 Princeton Junction
hey great video and does the aces ever use that p42
Np! And that's pretty cool to hear! If you'll be able to drive around, I could give you a few tips for a secret location I have ;D No one knows about it! Mwahaha. But, they will after I upload videos from there. Lol. But enjoy your trip out here! I hope you catch some good shots

5:26 the dinky has arrived
Nice ONES
It was strange how that PL42AC was facing east when diesels usually face west.
By the sounds of it, they'd have needed to re-grind the wheels on that test train back into circular shape after that brake test.
Yes Sir!
What video editing program do you use? I watch a whole lot of your videos and they are all great! You deserve a sub from me. Great work TrainiacProductions.
The Amtrak police obviously haven't seen the back of the system timetable.
Why was a PL42AC on the NEC? They don't have enough respect to be on that line yet!
That is an NJT ALP-44 it look almost identical to the AEM7 but I don't think that NJT owns an AEM7.
nice video!!!
What's on the back of the system timetable?
Was that a electric engine with a diesel locomotive on the back at 5:42 ?
Can they do that?
CMLovejoy, That’s an ALP-44 and P40DC.
nice video, but 'round here they are called P40BH.
cool video
0:12
The ones on the ACES test trains at 0:40 and at 5:45
5000000000000000000000 stars...GREAT GREAT GREAT!
also in the info box it says copyright 2008 u might wanna change it to say 09
Who is your friend?
NEATO-MATIC!!!!!!!!
what if they got a train thats ALP-44 but with multievel cab cars
Alp 44s
Yes! I miss them!
TrainiacProductions, Me too! I don’t know why it got retired early.
@@robloxgamingrailfanner420 NJT hasnt even payed them off yet
I am not entirely sure
It's an APL-44
Everybody has every right to take pictures on the train. I had somebody call the cops on me in Linden, NJ
WAIT! ALBERT EINSTEIN WENT TO THE UNITED STATES!
Yes! He lived in the United States from the early-1930s until his death in 1955 and most of that time he lived in Princeton, New Jersey
I have no idea.
It’s P40DC
Snow flurries!
Busy station
Oh yes, quite! Thank you for watching!
i mean that p40
"The conductor sounds like a complete idiot, other than that, this some terrific work."
what in the world, who says you cant take pictures on board. i checked the rule book. there is nothing about it in there. i must be a conductor on a different new jersey transit.
