The STI Swapped Subaru WRX: Finally, a Problem-Free Car!
HTML-код

- This car let me tell you... Has been the absolute bane of my existence the past week. It feels like every time I fixed one problem we got another in exchange... We fixed an STI 6 Speed that was the missing reverse, fixed that. Then had a blown-out fuel line. Fixed that. Then had a clutch issue where we couldn't go into any gear, Fixed that! THEN Had a throttle wiring issue and it felt like the list was honestly never-ending. But Were finally all good and ready for the Dyno This! Expecting the Subaru WRX to make around 700WHP or so!

@DeadOGrateful or say the E word
Back in the early 2010s I was member of a Subaru club, we would sit around in parking lots late at night talking about all things Subaru. One thing we loved doing was to build our “dream build” cars. This WRX fits my twenty-something selfs build to a t especially that wing! This is such an awesome project and I’m so glad to see it moving.
It's definitely one I've wanted to do for a long time, I am glad however that the issues with it have been sorted out at this point 😅
I remember that. Subaru people used to have a reputation for bing polite and awesome. Those were the days.
Man you came in clutch(no pun intended)today, needed a reason to smile and you delivered. Kudos on the wrx working right
Thanks buddy🥳 glad that the known problems are all sorted out now 😅
22:12 🥺💜
🥳🥳🥳🥳
Its a living proof that despite current stop on new gen STI production, we can always build our own STI's based on new WRX.
Can't wait to see what people will do with new WRX modifications!
Keep up the good work!
Also very curious to see what comes from others as time goes on, especially with the VB 👀
Man...dat terbo whine thru the exhaust is eargasams 🤤🤤
Glad you got that boy all sorted out.
Need to get her on the dyno now 🔥🫴
Happy to be here

Thanks, awesome videos they have helped me out a-lot
I found this channel when i had my STi. I sold the car and went to a V8 (please don't shun me) but Smeedia's content is just so damn good that I always find myself waiting for new videos and watching. Nothing car related on RUclips even compares. Keep killing it homie.
Hey, nothing wrong at all with some V8 goodness 🔥🫡 always appreciate the support Jonathan 🙏
Good to see Brad over at 1552 partnering with RUclipsrs. Great dude. Great company. Just weird to see a Volkswagen aftermarket company branch outside the culture. Ftw, 1552 is a code for a factory Volkswagen tool. The company use to be VW Sport. Then 1552 before he closed the business. Hence why it’s now called 1552v2. I know all this because Brad is a good friend of mine and we both been in the game for well over 25 yrs.
Keep up the good work. Although I’m not a Subie guy, I’m a fan of performance. Videos like this also motivate me to get off my ass and finish up my Volkswagens. 👍
Interesting but of info, had to look up what the tool was, peaked my curiosity 😅🔥
@@Smeedia iirc it’s an old diagnostic tool. We use to use one when I first started working at the dealer 25 yrs ago.
Brad started making wheels just for the vw community. Mainly replicating old vw factory wheels in a bigger size. I think the Tarmac’s were the first ones that weren’t which became popular with enthusiast outside of the vw community. Like I said we go way back. While some call us legends in the vw performance game, he is a true legend. Can’t wait to see the new wheels. And if you happen to talk to Brad tell him Dreadz said waddup
Im so glad to watch you over the last few months and learn so much, hoping to get this job at a dealership soon and start ordering some oem parts for the impreza here soon
Yessss, best of luck as alaays Wayne! I'm sure you'll land it 🔥🫡

A great video brother. Yes Electrical is your best friend.
I hate it and love it at the same time 😅
@Smeedia Tanner you are getting better man. Proud of you and your channel brother. Subies forever.
I have 0 experience, but my guess would be that it was because of the flywheel being warped or ground down a little, which would cause all or some of the springs of the clutch to also be recessed and the throwout bearing wouldn't be able to push against them properly, so the clutch would be slightly engaged. But i think you did the right thing replacing everything... I can understand it gets hella annoying pulling a motor in and out a handful of times. Good job and keep up the amazing content :D
That's the most logical thing I could think of, either the flywheel was warped towards the trans or the tob couldn't fully reach 🫡
Well… what I have learned through this whole experience is that you get content
I love have you go step by step to fix the problem. Oh by the way the Hatch sounds awesome. One down two to go . Great job Tanner
I knew you would figure it out. Glad to see you didn't give up.
Never give up 🔥 even when we wanna burn them down 😅😅😅
The problem with routinely taking out an engine rather than just the part you need (trans), is that you open yourself up to lots of other problems. So whilst it might be easier to work on, it can give you other headaches.
Glad resolved. Love how relatively easy it is for you now just to be "700bhp" car. Lol. Loving the hatch.
Big facts, but when you don't have a full 2 post lift, pulling the engine is so much easier 😅
@@Smeedia lol, I don't wanna hear the excuses 😂 😉 jk. Keep up the solid work. I'm glad you show all the headaches, it keeps it real.
Yay she's fixed! Please make a video of the correcting of the clutch chatter issue. Want to know how to address that when I get that ACT clutch in for my next power goal.
i have an 09 forester XT thats gone through a full sti swap, trans, diff, axles, breaks and even the dccd, currently making close to 400whp and i gotta say its been the most enjoyable car ive ever driven, cant wait to see more of the wrx
Sti swaps entirely change the way the car feels. Honestly makes them so much more enjoyable 🔥
Awesome to see you persevere through challenges and make your goals come true! Real inspiration to anyone that’s working on cars! Can’t wait for the dyno day!
Need tonsee this thing make some power now 🔥🫴
I'd agree that you have a warped flywheel due to being heat soaked. Unfortunately, It's not something that you can check with the naked eye. Hopefully you can get you tuning session set and put the power down on this guy. Great find on the continuity test!
Thanks Eric! Electrical is never fun but such a good skill to know 🔥
It sucks when everything fights you the whole way but then it all comes together at the end. On the positive side, car looks great and sounds just as good.
Tunes in a few days, and she will be 100% finally. Feel like this thing has taken WAY too long 💔
You are amazing. All of the issues and little issues is why I leave the car repair to you guys. I don't have the patience. But I do work on computers and bicycles. So I guess we all have our things we like to work on. Keep up the good work. And keep the video's come'n.
Computers are one that I easily lose my patience in 😅 been chasing a random blue screen I keep getting lol
So glad to see the hatch alive ! "It goes backwards, and forwards !!"
It goes all the directions now!!!
The wrx is def my favorite build of yours. Once you got the hatch I knew it was gonna be killer and I've been tuned in for the whole ride of painful issues😂. You're a g and an inspiration to all the Subaru guys out here
Thing was a major pia but glad that it's all sorted now. Love the hatch but got damn it fought us 😅
👍🏼👍🏼man that was very smart of you. I couldn’t help but notice you pre-installed that 2” Y fitting for the AOS before assembling the entire engine. Lord knows that’s probably the worst fitting to install with everything already in the engine bay especially getting a dam clamp on it.
Always ore install them when you can, saves so much time and frustration 😅
One way to look at it is that at least all of these problems happened while you were working on it instead of on the road. And conveniently all one after the other instead of off and on and off and on. At this point you have touched every single part of this WRX so now you KNOW everything is SOLID! It definitely sucked but just a positive way to look at it! :D
Very true! Would much rather them all happen now and all at once just to get them all sorted out 💪
@@Smeedia Yezirrrr! Also. You save any money with that military discount dawg? 👀
Yooo!! I'm so stoked for you for getting the WRX running right!! I hate being in those positions, BUT it feels so good when you diagnose and FIX the problems.
Very true 🫴 the little issues do get annoying though😅
Man I was happy to see you solve this. Had the exact same code and continuity Was the issue in my harness.
Harness issues will get ya every time 😫 being able to check the harness is a HUGE life saver
Man, I was so happy to see the hatch moving back and forth under its own steam, and it's not even my car!! Great work Tanner!! Now let's get back to the Blobeye! 😉
Back on ghe blob eye 🫡🫡🫡
After installing the engine before hooking literally anything up with like 2 bell housing bolts in I'll test the clutch by having someone sit inside and press and depress the clutch pedal while I spin the engine with a ratchet just to make sure it's disengaging. So i can pull it back apart super fast if there's something wrong
Thursday, normally I'll just push on the clutch for to ensure it works. I'll have to start the spin iver technique next
Been enjoying your videos more and more lately man love it
Eyyy appreciate it my man ❤️
don't worry, we're all over it as well. haha.
And the evil energy lines arent bad. you might have just had the one section that didn't want to cooperate.
I've never had an issue with it before, but it only takes 1 time 😅
Glad it workssss🤩, Tomei sounds so good on the car 🔥🔥
Tomei was the move 😍😍😍
Congratulations on the WRX! Your persistence paid off. You do great work. Thanks for the video.✌️
Many a time when I wanted to set it on fire but she's finally solid 🔥
Hmmm, now I'm here in Jamaica wondering how much powa she'll make
You could have hooked a drill up to the transmission just to make sure that the gears engage. Just have to make an adapter for the splines and then in future you can test your trans without needing to put an engine back in.
Drill wouldent be able to spin the engine nearly fast enough to be able to check 🙏
Can't wait for the dyno day!! Wheres the block from again? IAG Performance? Or did you just get it custom built
I built the engine 🤝🫡
@@Smeedia You jogged my memory lol. Couldn't remember
This is literally a dream car for me, ive always loved the look of the hatch. I have a 2018 limited WRX and i love it, this is next car for sure.

So hyped to see the Hatch in person
The WRX lives again! Excited for the tune video!
She going to make the sauceeeeeee 🔥🔥🔥
I had that happen with a stage 3 spec clutch. Sent it back to them...they never said what was wrong just sent a new clutch months later. I just sold it without ever installing it again
They are a pia to swap in and out 😫
Great job, brother! Glad to see the hatch running and driving again🎉
Time to make some power now🫴🔥
Congratulations, I know the wrx isn’t your favorite but it’s definitely mine❤
It is one that definitely gets in my nerves 😅🔥
If you ever decide to sell this car, would you let me know? I've wanted an Aspen White 04/05 STI and have been saving a long while. Absolutely love the build. It's basically everything I would do. I'm very serious about buying it. Cash in hand. I know it's not for sale now, but in the future I'd love to take it off of your hands when you're done with her!
Hell yes .. Glad to see it all back up and running ,hope to see it make some sauce on the Dyno.
Oh she will amen the sauce 🫴
@smeedia when my 04sti is on, I can’t get into any gear, only when the car is off can I access gears… If I start it in gear it jumps forward, but then I can’t remove it from the gear I started in… I had no prior issues, new slave An master … an clutch never slipped
About damn time hate to see my. Man stress out . I appreciate the new video 😊. Keep em rolling out brotha.
Dude this things been a royal PIA 🤣

Things been a PIA but glad it's sorted 😅🔥
@smeedia send the flywheeel back to ACT. I’m sure they’ll
Warranty it for you as good business practice.
Going to send them an email to see if they'll warranty it 🫡
Happy the wrx is up and running! Fingers crossed nothing else happens to it. Also I’d like to request more puppy content
Moooooore puppy content coming up 🫡
The turbo sounds amazing
Sounds so good 😍😍😍
Much love Tanner. But you gotta tackle these issues one car at time, per vehicle. All that jumping from car to car you can miss a bunch of small things.....
It can but we didn't miss anything small, issues were mainly derived from trying to save a couple $$$ on parts
@@Smeedia I gotcha
Aye let's go! The transmission is golden now 🤙I'm interested to hear how you like the Redline Cocktail. That's the route I'll probably go now that the Motul seems to be discontinued...
I'll follow up with how I like it 🫡🫡
Mad respect for you being able to pull the engine out as fast as you do though! I could do it but I need a cherry picker but it would take me all day if I did😂
Once you do it enough times you get pretty quick at it 😅😅😅
Going backwards is underrated isn't it? Congratulations on getting there.
We only need forwards 😅🔥
Finally another smeedia video. Ive had to resort to old Bader Basic Racing vids for the last three days 😂
Lol sorry, this been taking some time to sort out 😅😅😅
Glad to see the wrx alive again. Now for a fun dyno day, get some real power going! Guess old flywheel was toast
Flywheel issues are the only thing I can think of 🤔 glad to have it back up and properly working again 🔥
Maybe kick them headlights out for "newer ones" on the hawk eye hatch...
Feel like it would give it a facial for sure complimenting that front mount.
🍻
I've been eyeballing the morimoto ones 👀👀👀
Congrats brother man!! Love it.
Thanks buddy!
Glad it is ready for the tune!
Dude sameeee!!!!!
The flywheel could be warped but also the pressure plate springs warp very easy and that's why you have to tighten and loosen the bolts slowly and in steps because they are so sensitive that if you loosened or tightened one side farther down than the other side it can warp the spring causing that exact problem. heat can also cause that and I suspect the heat was your issue. also I've seen a damaged pilot bearing cause the same issues. just food for thought. I'm betting it's the pressure plate spring that's warped.
Has to be from the heat then if it is the springs 🤔 that 1st twin disk only had like 600 miles on it
@@Smeedia and I could be wrong but I've seen badly warped flywheels that only caused a serious vibration with difficult shifting and were just completely scorched and cracking then also seen where people slipped and smoked a pressure plate spring until it wouldn't disengage but I haven't played with lightened flywheels much and the reduced mass can translate heat faster. I would take a straight edge across the surface of the flywheel and check with feeler gauges then bolt the clutch on and set it in a shop press with the throughout bearing and see if you can get it to disengage and if the spring is warped you might be able to see the warpage once there's pressure on it. knowing how it failed can help from having another failure in the future. and if you do it, you should simulate the distance the clutch fork would travel. now thinking about it there is a possibility that since if I remember correctly the clutch+ flywheel are for an EJ maybe the crank sticks out a bit farther on an EG allowing too much travel for the pressure plate spring and if it travels too far it can warp. you should check it and take all the measurements to find the cause since it is weird that it died so fast.
"engaging start-up" 🤣🤣 so official lol
Also, the hatch sounds soooo fucking good I LOVE IT!

when you get your defi gauge setup let us know if you find a trick to get the boost gauge to read correctly. Many of ours have read 3-4 high making us insane.
I'll follow up with if once it's all set up 🫡 mine will be in metric vs imperal
I think the old clutch issue might have been the fly wheel bolts. If they are too long the fly wheel won’t seat properly causing engagement and not being able to disengage.
They're oem sti flywheel bolts though👀
@@Smeedia u mentioned also in the video that the new clutch has different bolts around the outside of the pressure plate. Maybe those were not seating properly also?
@Sean Newstead possible, the old mod twin I had was one if the first they released so they made some changes to it from what I can see

@@Smeedia My car still on queue waiting but isnt the last one at least, the shop got couple projects before mine including an h6 sti, but soon brother, hopefully, if is not by the end of this month, around march🤞, waiting on the feal 441+ coilovers, some parts still needs to get cerakoted, clutch, whole fueling lines, pump and drop the heart in, break in, tune and send it to the moon with the t51r screaming, I'll keep you posted, tag you the vid on dyno day via instagram!
Did you do overlays or paint the rear tail lights, been going through the videos trying to find when it went red 😆
Tanner, I see on that engine that you have a I'm guessing AEM oil pressure sensor mounted where the stock sensor goes. I plan to do the same very soon. I already have the torqued performance adapter. My question is, how do you wire it up so the light on the dash stays off? I currently have an AEM oil pressure sensor system, but it's mounted on a Perrin oil filter sandwich plate. Personally, I do not like it there and feel I will get better readings where the stock sensor is.
Great!! Wrx looks great sounds great.. God i love this car!!!
Ready for it to make some power 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Congrats on both. Partial to the White Blob tho.;)

So this is probably a dumb ? But this is my first all me start to finish project so I'm gonna ask to be 100%. I'm gonna do an EJ swap to my 2020 WRX and I've recently found a 1 piece driveshaft. Question is if I buy the one for the FA will it bolt up to the EJ when I get the motor and do it in. I've tried to look this up and can't find anything on this. Thanks in advance.
