With the adoption of the World Handicap System, golf handicaps have been discussed a lot lately. Now that you've had a chance to learn more about the new system and how golf handicaps are helpful, do you have a different perspective on the value of maintaining one?
I had a handicap with my home course when I first started playing, through the USGA. $25 yearly. Now I use thegrint.com (free) which uses ESC. It forces me to put in the ESC, how do I make the adjustment or should I just go back to USGA whose made the updates. Great video!
I’d take a look to see if your current handicap home has updated/moved to the World Handicap System...if they’re USGA compliant, then they’ve adopted the WHS guidelines. If not, then check out the USGA - definitely available there!
@@DrGretaGolf Thanks, great info! Keep up the good work.
I've played golf all my life, but never had a handicap and never knew how they really worked. Great info!
So glad that this was informative!! In the description section of this video, I included a link that will direct you to setting up your handicap if you’re ready to get started in establishing your handicap!!
Thanks, great video. I've been golfing recreationaly most of my life, but never bothered to get a handicap. Just started learning about the system as I may think about joining a leauge at some point. I calculated one myself with my most recent rounds and think Im about a 16 or 17. Now its like I'm competing against myself to lower that number, makes my rounds a little more fun.
I’m so glad this video was helpful to you! You’re exactly right - we can use our handicap index to compete against self, to identify areas for improvement and so much more.
It’s good that you’re thinking ahead and establishing your handicap index now if you’re planning to join a league. Please let me know if there are other topics that would be helpful for you to see addressed in an upcoming video...lots of our topics come from community members just like you!! 😊
Learned quite a bit about golf! I have always wanted to try and really want to check out and practice the game!
It's a great sport; definitely consider giving it a try! Lots of great dogs hang out around golf courses (just FYI)....many houses are on golf courses, so I'm always amazed at how well many of them adhere to golf etiquette.
You explained this really well!
Thank you! I hope it was helpful 😊
Great job, very informative.
Fred Anderson thanks for watching!!
You have a lot of knowledge
Thank you!! Always happy to share 😊
can you go into the net double part as well thanks
Planning to do a new version as the new golf season gets underway.
When this comes into play, does it mean that my current handicap will change?
Great question. In all likelihood, your current handicap changed at least a bit when the WHS came into effect. The previous system based your current handicap on your 10 of your past 20 rounds. The WHS includes only eight of your past 20 as a way to make the index more responsive and reflective your your current play.
#5. It’s best 8 from last 20 rounds NOT just last 8 rounds that count.
I’m new to getting my handicap. 1. When I play, who posts my round? 2. I hardly play the same course 2x in a year. How is that managed and data collected?
Jim/Orlando Fl
its based on your handicap index ( calculated based on the average of the best 8 rounds from the most recent 20 rounds of golf you can use golf handicap calculator to get your index) which is used no matter what course you play they take your handicap index number the course you are playing determine what tee you playing from they use course rating slope rating and par for that course its calculated and that is your handicap for that course (see course handicap calculator usga.org they calculate it for you) if you join a club say usga ghin you will get a number with membership of course they will do it for you after your round enter your score they will update daily and they will add pca playing condition adjustment as well for that day that means how the course was playin that day but wait there is more maybe I HOPE Dr Greta gets into the net double bogey part of the new system now that is a bit confusing
What if I have just moved to a new course.. how does the system 'see' my previous scores..
Yes, the system is comprehensive in that, as long as scores from the rounds at that course were entered, the system will see them. Be sure to make your new home course/club your new home course in the handicap system too. Then you’ll be all set!
Is this going to move the bar on what a scratch golfer is? Does it mean someone can be a way lower handicap easier?
In all likelihood, this new system shouldn’t em really result in a shift in the definition of scratch golfer. Likewise, the level of skill required to be a low handicap golfer won’t change as a result of WHS being implemented. A golfer’s skill set will still need to be reasonably high and definitely consistent to play scratch-level golf on a regular basis.
I just learned so much! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Are you a golfer, or thinking of getting started?
