- Here is go pro footage of the popular Norton Summit TT on Saturday mornings in Adelaide. This is a great fitness test to see where you stand in comparison to other really strong riders. It is also very fun and everyone regroups at the top for a chat afterwards.

LOL at the protein part in the beginning. i actually lol'd
1:11 "there's two vegan dudes, their gonna get dropped because they don't have enough protein"
DurianRider's gonna LOVE that :)
;)
I'm vegetarian and i drop all of my carnist friend ;)
@no name fool Have you ever heard about a fruit called avocado?
he was joking. Why are vegans so easily triggered. What's wrong with you people?
Lots of vegetarians (not vegans) use protein powder with very good results. Also much cheaper than eating a steak every day.
lol I was the one on the front from the last hairpin, avg 397w for the whole climb. it bloody hurt
I’m sitting here in the states right now totally reading this comment in my head with an Australian accent, lollll “bloody hell man!”
I watch your channel every single night without fail , I put my earphones in and lie on my side with my 13 week old boy in my arms and rock him to sleep whilst watching your videos mate ( my cycling motivation ) so I really do appreciate your channel it’s brilliant ( so does Jonah my son ) 🤣 and by far the best cycling channel on RUclips , My wife thinks I’m a great dad getting our boy to sleep every night but I can’t hear his constant crying because I’m listening to you take the piss out of vegans and Irish riders who’s socks are too long and white .. big shout out from Port Macquarie NSW 😎
The good times!
Was this around the time you set your Norton's PB?
And how much time have you lost in these 7 years?
I was the local vegan rider who chatted to you after the time trial (if you can remember that far back). Great video man!
+Alex H Yeah I remember mate! Was good chatting to you, I'm so jealous of your local roads and the cycling culture in Adelaide. Hope you enjoyed watching.
Nothing that a motor in your seat tube and some EPO can't fix.
Dude , you did great, the watts you pumped out were fantastic.
Nice video. I'm pink jersey black shorts towards the end of the video, fighting like hell to hang on. PR for me so glad you caught it on video. Love the Supers ride and the cycling scene in Adelaide, we're lucky. Lots of fit dudes here, standard is nuts. Mark.
+Briony Greenwood Well done on the PR, was a killer TT. Cycling scene is insane in Adelaide, the two week taste I got of it has me wanting to come back. Being around so many hitters and groups pumping the hills just makes one's fitness rise by osmosis
It's killer like that every Saturday. This morning the lead guys went sub-13 minutes. I got shelled, LOL!! When it's that quick the group splinters and its harder (for mere mortals) to do a good time. The week you were there the pace was good.
We will always be our own worst critic, looks like your smashing it bro. Keep up the good work
Please add more info on the left side of the screen such as % of the climb and heart rate (if you can MPH please)
do you still cycle in brisbane? If so, what are your favourite hills? I think there is only cootha and mt mee/nebo. Unless there are others Im not aware of
Great work hitting a PB! Amazing feeling. Adelaide looks like an amazing place to ride.
+Euromiles Yeah the roads and training culture are incredible
Lanterne Rouge As an Adelaidean cyclist i must say our road surfaces are crap and need major work. Yes we have hill climbs close to the cbd but interstate roads are much better quality. I just got back from Asia band their road quality is better.
glenny oc yes I have to agree with you there. It is mostly a problem on descents because there are very few in Adelaide which don't have gravel/gumnuts or potholes throughout. Montacute is probably the best one, whereas cootha back descent in brisbane in pristine tarmac and usually v clean.
You may have seen I just got back from Japan (not cycling though) do you have any recommendations for good places to ride there?
Lanterne Rouge So Many good rides in Japan. A lot of guy get the train out to.the country areas The train to nakano is a good start. If you have a router or mtb then up.north to Hokkaido in spring to Autumn. A guy on RUclips has some day trip tides from Tokyo. I'm just reading bicycling Australia and there is a good article on how awesome Taiwan.is. some he'll.climbs, surprised Duianrider hasn't gone over.
Great perspective of your local ride. And for comparison: 1 hp = 746 watts.
Nice vid, great effort!
Your weakness is approximately 25 times fitter than me lol
Oh and your glasses cost you em..... 5 watts, then you got a fanny rash em.....cost you 5 watts, your big toe imbalance cost you em..... you guessed it
250 watts!
+TOMMY TOTO my mental weakness cost be about 1200 watts
lol
Cool video man. This on-board stuff is cool. It gives you a good sense of how tough the ride is.
Question about eating while riding. Don't you get indigestion on long rides? I've tried but within 40 mins I'm hurting .
Great video! Very informative.
No abuse here. I appreciate your comments and insights regarding climbing and where to ride in the group. They are very helpful. Thanks.
I think you need a parachute jacket like BMC shorts was wearing, that will totally make you ride faster
Awesome work. Also love your work.
nice video bmc pant here :)
+rico alberts welcome cadence lord
Great vid with excellent commentary as usual ! Great job on the climb given you don't know it so well. During summer, my 15mins max power is in the 370-380w bracket on a good day (with FTP around 340-350w @ 75kg, 172cm). Power is currently around 30w lower, as it's winter here in the UK, so only just starting to do some Sweet Spot intervals again (which seem absolutely horrible after a couple of months of easier sessions !). BTW, I might be wrong, but I personally never got the impression Cycling Maven was being condescending regarding his "Vegan Corner" comment (and he seems to be a part-time vegan himself). Keep up the good work mate !!
Gary M nice power mate, this climb would suit you with your higher absolute power than me although same ballpark w/kg. I can't imagine how grim it must be training in the UK right now, one day of rain here and I start sulking
Hey bro I was the rider in front of you!!
White Pedal Mafia socks? Awesome man, you killed it, looked like you were doing it easy
Lanterne Rouge yep that was me!
What gearing where you using?
You did well bro .... just have heaps of strong power aid in your bottles and heaps of gels , heaps of intervals incorporated in your training and BOOM AWAY YOU GO !! but seriously well done that was quite constant 👍
You hung in there as long as you could, any longer and you'd be walking to the finish. It's easy to point to the "mistakes" you made but remember; fitness allows you the freedom to make mistakes. So keep training! Enjoy your channel.
lol thats the worst feeling ever, slowly getting dropped. I guess durian is as good as he says he is if he was able to finish in the front.
I believe durian rider has a video up of the same day and ride. Smokes everyone
Mate you did really good awesome video
ChillyWillyGoCycling thanks chilly appreciate it, but I need a roast comment too
@@LanterneRougeCycling you suck! Boom roasted! Lol. What happened to that video of the fast runner, I think it was the 800 meter world championship? Someone blowing the roof or doors off, do you remember??
felt like i was on the bike w ya... awesome. thx
Excellent Step by Step Brother! You showed up you did your ride! It's a learning experience ✌️😎. Ciao. Tucson Arizona 🏜️.
What's wrong with Nebo in Brisbane?
I just watched this again. Do you even ride, bro?
Start at the front on a group climb, not the back. Then force the riders to pass you. Try to stay around 5-10th spot so you can see the front and any jumps.
What gearing are you riding?
If only your GoPro gave us the slightest idea how steep that climb really was...Great effort!
great video!
i enjoyed this. very good video
Good Videos, when you going to keep the wheel with them again! ?
@13:58 we reallly kicked up the watts as I moved onto the front and that always gets the lads triggered.
Cool vid and nice narrative. Kind of funny.
+Bryan Haas cheers mate, my humour is usually lacking unfortunately
I'm very proud of myself. I did a 600hm climb near my house in 27min, which is an average of 320W for 27 minutes (75 kg).
I know it's irrelevant - but I'm proud (hobby occasional rider - used to be amateur lightweight rower 10 years ago).
Lightweight nation baby!!
Always enjoy your commentary and analysis. You add a lot by just pointing out your own mistakes. And as a guy in his mid 60s i’d be happy to have kept up with you. However at your age, perhaps, you sho
13:40 at this moment you knew. You effed up lol solid effort mate maybe you just needed a jell!
I reckon I could do that speed for the mountain hill whatever it is (downhill)
You should get a one speed with baskets on the front and back.
Thanks for the vid and the commentary. BTW, how long have you been training? That is quite a power output for someone your size. Kudos.
+seylom ayivi 1 year training since spinal fusion surgery, I.e. From zero fitness
Lanterne Rouge Jesus man that’s a hell of a leap in fitness. How frequently and how many hours were you riding?
I wish I could give this two thumbs up. Excellent video.
+loopie007 thanks but where's my roast
Next time don't give up like a little girl. HTFU!
Oh yes, I almost forgot. Stop using vegan free glue to attach your pubic hair to your chin.
Lolled at the protein comment
Mike Pigg former Pro Tri Geek used to train with a weight strapped to his bike (I think he market it too, called the "Pigg weight") training with the weight and removing it for a hill climb is a huge psychological boost... or just train on your dad's Schwinn! lol
good stuff brah
That moment When you drop of the wheel and realise what you have done, then you instantly jump back on
Fucking admire your HUNGER!
+That Action TRYING NOT TO SUCK ONE RIDE AT A TIME
Im from the US, what is the average gradient for this ride? how long is it from the bottom to the top?
Bell Lap strava segment is 5.4km at 5.3%
Bell Lap it's a decent length but not overly steep. You'd find similar in California and Colorado no doubt.
Nice video!
Having 11-32 rear cassette would also help..
I knew a bloke who could go under two hours for the 50 mile time trial, and very nearly managed 7w per kg on the ramp test. The problem was that he did this by riding mega miles and doing nothing else. He looked exactly like one of the POWs on the Burma railway. 62kg and over six feet tall. He could drop you like a bad habit up a hill - and, thinking about, on the flat as well - but if you aren't actually going to make money out of it who would want to walk about looking like that?
+Craig Ross because Ricky Bobby just wanna go fast
+Craig Ross I get what you mean though. I'm not quite that bad because I'm shorter but I'm focussing more on weights now so that I don't look like a skeleton
People obsessed/passionate
I honestly don't mind having a cyclist body, I don't care what people think I just like to ride my bike and stay healthy.
How are there no cars passing you?!?! Are the roads always this empty in adelaide?
Vegan Grass there is a parallel road climbing up to the hills which most drivers would use as Saturday morning on Norton summit is cyclists galore
Pretty good anyway, much better then I could do.
yo dude, nice commentary!
+Big Vegan Jeff cheers mate
He was correct in the commentary. His lack of confidence and position in the group was always holding him back.
Looked for people puking at the end lol.
Durianrider is a beast!
I’m just salivating at that awesome hill you guys have there to train. Our KOM climb is about 50 feet. Oh and stop being a baby. If you were really at your max you would’ve dropped to 50 watts immediately. So like the other guy said, stop pulling out mate! 😆
Confirmed I was a sook
I got heaps of punctures with Maxxis refuse and after changing to gp 4000 STILL got heaps but at least they were fast!
Yeah I'm putting the Schwalbe Ones back on. The refuse have been good to me but I can't take the sluggishness any more
+Lanterne Rouge Yeah I'm tempted to take a gamble on some more GP 4000s even though they seem to shred up like licorice
Excuse after excuse
that moment when he complained about the 600 watts at the start I was like dude wtf xD
Addicted Cyclist Agreed, complained too much and made too big a deal out of having to do minor exertions then complaining about lactate build up right away. It's like really dude htfu and pedal the bike.
Hahaha ya legs were “full of lactate” after one effort 😂😂😂 ok buddy
Hey guys, what does a Sub 14 or Sub "a number" means? thanks
+Rawsan Mati sub 14 means a time under 14 minutes, i.e. 13:59 or better
+Lanterne Rouge ok, so that is 14 min / 10Km? 100? or what? Is that right.
I wonder if Durianrider got one of those new bamboo bikes with the discs yet?
12.36 ...... you made me think I received an email!! Checked my inbox and everything!
Nar mate , good effort , you'll do a sub 14 next year
Hey great job😝
gradient and length of climb? I may have missed it in the video.
NOStyC5 5.4 km 5%
Thanks! Up, up, and up!
How about not answering the surges the next time and just ride the pace you can ride. You might find that you'll actually bring the bunch back in and slow burn your matches instead of flash burning them. Make sense?
Joe Schmoe if it were an 8-10% gradient climb I would agree with you, but the draft from the bunch is so significant at this gradient that even If did higher power without surges, the bunch would still beat me by a considerable margin
Yeah, maybe just a little more judicious power output compared to that blasting of the watts, but you were the one suffering and you'd know better. This is a very good informative video. Thanks for sharing.
nice vid
Forgive me for what I said when I was under-proteined
not a bad effort on a bamboo bike
Mt Nebo I reckon, good climb for a tt bunch
+Sebastian Berwick agreed. I reckon the servo to mcafees would be ideal as it's primarily climbing and just under the 20 min mark
Wish I sucked at cycling like you!
@Pete is never wrong lol
What time is that on on Saturdays morning?
MTBen 8:15 tower hotel
Thanks mate. I might go next Sat and push some watts between 8:15 and hopefully no later than 8:29 :-)
Durian you are a green vegie Lion!!
How long is this climb? How many km?
About 5km at 5.5% gradient I think
@@LanterneRougeCycling Damn pretty tough!
"The vegan dudes going to get dropped cause they don't have enough protein" haha
From lean cuisine who towed you to the line, well done on the pr. I did actually start at the front of that group at the bottom but couldn't hold it at the end.
+Bruce Lee thanks mate. Apologies for not giving you enough credit, you saved me!
Mr lean cuisine dropped you at the end if you held his wheel you would go sub 14
No excuses needed, -5watts from tire swap wasn’t gonna save you; that’s a strong group for sure. One thing, on sweeping turns I’d NEVER recommend overlapping wheels unless you know the rider in front, turns can often “pop” riders which will lead them to pull into your wheel/lane.
Yeah 14 mins odd is unacceptable bro everyone knows that!
Banana's analysis???
Corso reps made this video possible
Bullshit aside, that’s a great effort. At least you are able to pick apart where you went wrong. I’m a looong way off this sort of pace. Just keep pedalling my man!
what about Mt Gravat?
Steven Hay probably a bit short, would only be 5 mins 30-6 mins with a decent group having a go
Lanterne Rouge sure thing. is there one that happens in Brisbane?
+Steven Hay not that I know of. I know clubs do Nebo TTs etc. Settlement road petrol station to mcafees lookout would be good. my personal choice would be cootha from the planetarium to the top of the back, but it's steep and not a gradual climb so it would split up early
Obviously this post is really old, but wouldn’t you want to be able to do a sub 14minute time with out assistance? I’m always looking at my friends rides and seeing their times, then I realise they were in a group of like 20ppl. You gotta be able to push yourself past your limits.
I need to learn how to climb.
Only been riding a couple months. Can't hold any cadence on inclines yet haha. More interested in climbing than anything else though.
Will hit ya up on bris vegan cyclist once I get some fitness up champ. I'm based north brissy.
Top vid good content lad.
But yess weak. Hold that wheel BMC shorts did with A parachute on ;)
Andy Rowland climbing is the quickest way to get good at climbing which is both a blessing and a curse. What gearing do you have?
On a caad10 10sp 30 back but standard crank. 39 little need a compact asap!
Andy Rowland any loop you do west of the north side should be very rolly without any long climbs like cootha. That sort of undulating terrain gets you fit fast. Eatons hill/Samford loop is hard af but you can do it with that gearing
Lanterne Rouge thanks legend. I'll get stuck in and take on some strava KOMs haha then I'll hit you up for a TT ride
Why would being good at climbing be a curse?
I have no doubt that durianrider had the heaviest bike there I also have no doubt he was doping about that time as well
You don't need to be doping to hit a 14minute nortons
Well...
You did your best :-p
"the vegans are gonna get dropped not enought protein", lol they were one of the first to finish
Vegan turns out to be Durianrider himself! 😂😂😂
lol I thought U are durainrider until U said U are behind him
I tought the vegans were going to get dropped.... You know because the lack of protein lol...
Uneducated 😅
Not when there is the vegan cyclist
@marian roberto I think if you do your research your find that 90% of the world tour pro riders all use vegan diets leading up to races. And same goes to most pro athletes these days .
Leon Sutton stop talking shit you ape. You don’t even understand what vegan means. Just because i go a couple of days without eating meat doesn’t make me a vegan
@marian roberto Lmao that's just because most people aren't vegan so it's a matter of statistics.
i watched this just to see how durianrider really strong haha
2:20 the vegan dude on the right on the light blue bike has his seat wayyyyy too high
My best 47 min power is 316 @ 125lbs. Stay after it bro !
Cycle Jockey damn
I bet you're still out there trying to get up that hill
