  • For Matariki ki te Manawa, Viaduct Harbour presents ‘IWA’ - an immersive on-water experience, conceived by Tuhirangi Blair (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Awa) in collaboration with music producer Riki Pirihi (Ngāti Wai, Patuharakeke, Ngāti Māhanga Hourua) and installation artist Angus Muir.
IWA is open and fully accessible to the public via Waitematā Plaza until 23rd July 2023. Twice each evening during this time-at 6pm and 8pm-a bespoke soundtrack created by Riki Pirihi will be played through speakers on the viewing platform of Te Mata Topaki at Viaduct Harbour, as part of a captivating audio visual show.
The lighting installation features nine illuminated buoys representing the Matariki star cluster, and will be permanently visible on-water until 23rd July.
To celebrate the launch of IWA, Riki Pirihi flew up to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland from his hometown of Pōneke Wellington, to deliver a one-off live performance on Te Mata Topaki, captured beautifully by the team at Supernormal.
DETAILS: IWA can be viewed until 23rd July 2023 at Te Mata Topaki, a waterfront pier structure accessible via Waitematā Plaza, 117 Customs St West, Viaduct Harbour, Auckland, New Zealand.
