Tenzin is the absolute GOAT in this episode. I already loved him in TLOK but it was in this episode that Tenzin became one of my absolute favorite characters in the Avatar universe.
That's not headcanon, that's what was happening. He was easily taking on two of them, and three he was still coming out ahead, it took all four to beat Tenzin.
I think that one of the things that can give an Earth bender the Lava Bending ability is to have blood from both bending styles. Bolin and Mako's parents were Earth and Fire. 🤔
I love how obvious they made it that Tenzin would’ve beat Zaheer. It really does bring the question to mind though, what if Amon were fighting the Ted Lotus? I think he would’ve wiped the floor with them, but that’s just speculation on my end.
I think you have a misunderstanding about zaheer tenzin is the greatest air bender in the world zaheer is the most spiritual airbender in the world and happens to be cunning and a good fighter without bending. Although zaheer is strong in reality tenzin would easily win had it just been him.

Zaheer was definitely not holding his own against Tenzin, he was on the backfoot the entire time. He's no match for a real master.
With the spirit portals being open it leaves the question of if Zuko could go to the spirit world and see Iroh or not
