    Year and a half post op, I don’t know if discomfort in drinking carbonated drinks is due to the surgery or if it’s because I stop drinking soda completely a year before my surgery. I was 6 months post op when I had my first soda and I was uncomfortable for the rest of the day. However I do find that leaving it open to get a bit flat doesn’t cause discomfort.

    I am 13 days post-op. I had a vertical gastric sleeve and my gall bladder removed. I haven't had high sugar snack foods in well over a month. I was a Little Debbie/donut/cookie monster for sure. Before surgery, I was drinking Mountain Dew Zero. The only actual sugar that leaves my sugar bowl now is a bit for coffee in the mornings. I figured I could allow myself that small treat. I have lost 12.5 lbs in the past 13 days since surgery. My question is, if I do start adding in a "Zero" soda eventually, will that reactivate a sweets/sugar craving?

    Oh Dr. Blaney! :D Too funny! Not only that - I just got a SmartPhone and I'm not very good at it yet. I was in my husband's cardiologist's waiting room, took my phone out like everyone else does while they're waiting and before I knew it Dr. Blaney let out this loud belch and everyone looked at ME like I did it! :D

      @LiveHealthyMD That may be true, but this one thing about diet sodas is not healthy for anyone, and that's called aspartame. If someone's going to drink a diet soda at they might as well drink something with monk fruit in it instead.

    Does drinking carbonated beverages stretch the new stomach? Or is that a myth

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  2 года назад +7

      That is a myth. It may make you feel full and bloated but will not stretch the pouch.

    Hi Can you get the vertical sleeve surgery if you have had a gastric bypass over 15 years ago?

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  3 года назад +3

      Hi Jenn, it is possible but it is not recommended because anatomically you would be going backwards. The bypass produces better weight loss results than the sleeve in most bariatric patients. What would be recommended would be converting the bypass to the duodenal switch.

      Hi George, you can drink carbonated beverages but we recommend you wait a few months after your surgery. Diet sodas and other carbonated beverages can lead to feelings of bloat and discomfort after WLS, but if it is tolerable we do allow them - just limit consumption to about 1 a day.

    It's been drinking diet soda a week after surgery. What really causes me a lot of pain is other things like a piece of sugar-free chocolate it really caused severe bloating and gas. I haven't been able to burp as much as I used to when I got gas like this before surgery I would burp for almost a minute straight but I can't do that now but only if I could it would relieve a lot.

    I am 9 weeks post op from mini gastric bypass and i have esophagus hernia and reflux so i am still having trouble with eating non soft food but i do drink diet coke. I shake it little, put some ice and a little water in it. It works just fine for me. Dont have any issues. Its worst with normal food. That hurts when i swallow food. It sucks.
