The most important thing to remember with any police encounter is that the copper's ego will always come first, regardless of law. If you don't immediately kiss their boots they'll escalate and manufacture a reason for arrest as they know there's virtually no accountability for their actions.
If police want to use violence against a citizen and believe they should simply submit to that violence, then they must be forced to arrest that person and prove that you're using violence against them.
