Influencing the likes of Radiohead, Portishead and Tricky, Massive Attack are credited for creating “trip hop”, a hazy combination of hip hop, soul, psychedelia and dub reggae. In this rare interview members 3D (rumored to be the iconic street artist Banksy) and Daddy G discuss their claustrophobic masterpiece Mezzanine. The duo discuss the difficulty in bringing Bristol’s soundsystem culture to a wider audience, why American’s struggle to understand them and how the departure of soul singer Shara Nelson forced them to write in new and exciting ways.
