As far as the Headmaster's comments on the biscuits with jam essentially being a scone, we Americans actually do put jam on our biscuits, but that's usually when the biscuits are served as lart of a breakfast meal

Yeah the jolly guys seem to be under the idea that americans would never put something sweet on a biscuit which is just wrong af. Berries, cream, honey, jams, jellies, preserves, etc, A biscuit isnt "supposed" to be any particular way. Its SUPPOSED to be a versatile accompaniment to a breakfast or brunch. Sweet, savory, or use it as the bread for a sandwich. No wrong answers. Its not a pastry, its basically just a type of bread. Youd use it the same way.

As a native of New Orleans (where Popeyes started), y'all better have some Popeyes. It's a shame that y'all don't get some of our sides like red beans and rice. Definitely get the spicy chicken sandwich, it's a game changer. The mashed potatos with gravy are great as are the seasoned fries and of course, y'all have to have some biscuits. Popeyes is an integral part of Mardi Gras here in New Orleans, go to a parade set up with friends, there will always be a bunch of Popeyes food provided. I actually got to meet the founder several times in the 90's before he passed from cancer as one of his daughters went to the same university as I did and dated/eventually married one of my fraternity brothers.

Popeyes chicken is more of a traditional southern cajun recipe. Cajun fried chicken (like all things cajun) is going to have a bit of a kick to it. I can't handle spicy food, but prepared like this, pretty much anyone can handle the spice. I really prefer this cajun way.... you really cannot beat the flavor. Those chips/fries are also seasoned, which means, they are covered in seasoning. If its out of Louisiana, its got a lot of flavor.

That trip changed a lot of perspectives for those students as they have gone on to university and are starting to understand the world around them and how it influences them and how they influence the world. Depending on how they are cooked, biscuits can be crunchy without being overcooked. Also, firmer biscuits are preferable to light fluffy ones, when you covering them in gravy. Fluffy biscuits turn to mush when covered with gravy in practically no time at all. Same goes with cornbread. Fluffy corn bread turns to mush and is not good sopping up gravy or other cooking liquids such as bean juice or the juice from a pot roast.

I see we here in the USA love to confuse others on the difference between what we call a burger and a sandwich. I have a feeling Brits call it a burger because of the bread bun it's on, only here in the USA we call it a chicken sandwich regardless of the bun. For us a burger is based on the preparation of the meat. You can have a chicken burger if the chicken has been ground and formed into a patty like a hamburger is. A piece of deep fried chicken on a bun is a sandwich.

    A few thoughts…
Biscuits and gravy? You betcha! Biscuits and jelly/jam/preserves? Absolutely! Biscuits with just butter and/or maybe dipped in grits or eggs or whatever? Certainly! They are probably equally as popular and may even depend on what day if the week it is or which direction the wind is coming from.
The mashed potatoes and gravy aren’t bad however… they are instant. A little hot water and they are ready to go. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion but like most instant foods, they aren’t nearly as good as homemade or restaurant made from scratch. But, I rarely get chicken and pass up the potatoes.
We were putting fries on burgers 60 years ago when I was in elementary school.
Popeyes comes in spicy and not spicy with the same crunch.

My favorite is the nuggets with wild honey mustard sauce on the side. They have good mac n' cheese as well. I am not fond of their biscuits nor their gravy. But their chicken is better than KFC
The best time to go is when they are moderately busy so that they are making fresh food pretty quickly. If you go well after the typical meal time, the food may have been sitting just keeping warm which is not optimal.

We just got Popeyes…we like it…my husband gets the crispy chicken sandwich and I get the 3 piece dinner with fries…there’s a restaurant in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania called Primanti Bros. All their sandwiches have fries and cole slaw in their sandwiches….the cole slaw has a creamy base not vinegar base….

Always pick spicy over mild. The spicy pieces are well seasoned and not really “burn your tongue” spice. The biscuits are so buttery and can be eaten drizzled with honey. Try the red beans and rice.. they are so good just like the mashed potatoes and gravy ❤️👍

Not sure if y’all heard of the controversy Popeyes had a couple of years ago here in the US with the debut of their chicken sandwiches… they sold out everyday, there were lines and lines of customers, it was an uproar. As someone who personally waited patiently in those lines 😅 it was definitely worth the wait! Since then, all the other fast food chains have come up with their own versions, but none compare to Popeyes.

Wow! Just saw that Popeye’s has become a hit in the UK. It hopes to have ~30 locations by year-end, and open ~350 across the UK when all is said and done. It’s aggressively going after KFC and the local chicken restaurants. Like all prepared foods, people make their biscuits a bit differently. Some are a bit salty, some are really buttery. They do tend to go hard when they sit out, just like regular bread does, so bs t eat them when they’re warm.

LOL...I was putting fries on my burgers back in the 70's. For crispier fried chicken; add 1 part corn starch to 3 parts flour. Dip chicken in milk first...then in the flour/starch and seasoning mixture.

I wanted them to have them try dirty rice or red beans & rice.
Our biscuits are not your scones. We have both biscuits and scones. From what I've been told, scones are denser. Biscuits and scones are two different things. Biscuits can be eaten with something sweet or savory. And it can be eaten for breakfast or dinner. For breakfast, I usually put butter or jelly with butter on my biscuits. Sometimes I put a little puddle of syrup on the plate and sop it up with the biscuits.
    Please do try Popeye's!

OMG, of the various fried chicken joints in the US, KFC is now probably the bottom of the barrel and quite a few people consider Popeyes among the best (I'm trying not to provoke the Chick-Fil-A people because I consider their "thing" a little different).
How can you not have had mash potatoes WITH gravy? I mean that's almost, maybe not quite, the only way to eat them.
Also, Popeye's, unlike KFC, is not strictly a chicken place--hence the mac & cheese. It started out in New Orleans serving a few Cajun/Creole classics including jambalaya which I gether they've dropped but they still serve red beans and rice.
