Unfortunately Jon, not "all" Sovereigns have the same alignment, I have an 1870 that has the same alignment as the fake ones you have. After saying that the fakes you showed us are incorrect, so the secret of buying expensive coins is to research thoroughly and only buy from reputable sources.
Still, an excellent showcase for us all to be very mindful of the these fakes, and how easy it is to be fooled.
Keep up the good work, and keem 'em coming.
Damn! I didn't see any other orientation on genuine ones apart from errors.
Thank for the informative video.it will be very helpful as now I want the sovereign gold collection.
Oh god they are expensive but a treat to buy if your able to. If I can help I will. You know that buddy
Sovereigns are nice, but personally I prefer 1oz gold Britannia bullions, because the premium is lower than sovereigns. Sovereigns are 0.2354 oz, so if you do the maths, you will find they have a larger premium over spot compared to the 1oz gold Britannias :) Also, Britannias are 24 carat (999.9 fine gold), whereas Sovs are only 22 carat (it has copper in them, and that is why they have a reddish hue).
Very true but where gold bullion is spot ( i like it for this reason personally) the sovereigns havd a collectors value
For Sovs I would not buy older ones without VERY thorough consulting of Marsh etc (expert historical books) which show alignment, known errors, etc.
Just go for cheap as chips modern Sovs through trusted channels is my advice :)
When I am ready to buy them I am going to Baird & Co directly
Yes British coins have a "medal orientation", can't remember when it first started (some time in the 1800s I believe). They were "coin orientated" before - still don't know why they changed the orientation - LOL! Whereas US coins are "coin orientated" :)
I found out since they changed the orientation of these a few times. But to be certain many have already mentioned a book
I understand the value of 24k gold by weight but I don't understand the value of gold sovereigns, I was looking at getting one but couldn't get my head round the price, being 22k gold and only a few grams, you can get bars of 24k cheaper which is why I never got one... I've always wanted a full or half sovereign mounted in a ring though.
They are priced reasonably gram for gram. But some older ones forget it!!! The cost is extremely high
Crazy with all fake coins and rounds out there, don’t have any gold coins but when I do I’ll be buying from my LCS or reputable dealer online.
Seriously crazy the amount of fakes! And if you don't know like myself what a sovereign is. You could be caught out easily. Some sovereigns do rotate but others don't. It's a minefield
Thanks again jon for highlighting some of the pitfalls. Sovereigns are very nice though.
They really are!!! I need to actually buy one or 2 or a dozen now lol
A legitim one would be great for me. Never hold one but that's my next goal!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I don't own one!!! I had to call in a favour and borrow this from a viewer. I have it packaged for him now need to post it.
Dreadful Fakes made in China. As others have said coin alignment depends on the year. But they just look awful . Sadly I've seen many of these sell on eBay . The key words sellers use are , house clearance , not tested , sold as seen, no returns.
These were bought knowingly that they were fake to educate others. Sadly many will be caught out expecially if its a first time purchase or mounted in a 9ct gold ring. Easy to pass off as a genuine at that point.
Wow jon, what a great prize giveaway 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Really???? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bill you crease me up 😂🤣

Thank you very much bud. As a novice in sovereigns I would have been fooled

شكرا لدعمكم. عملات الملك والملكة جميلة. هل أنت جامع كذلك؟
Fakes are hard to distinguish for sure as much as a reputable dealer should do a heads up on good dealers
Thank you. I wouldn't have known if I didn't have a member send me a coin yo compare it against
They are obvious fake way too thick
Not that obvious, I have had many people dispute they are fakes
Thank you so much for the information
My pleasure for sure
