- An easy repair that most of you can do at home yourselves. A lot of intermittent receive faults are caused by a break somewhere in the signal path as discussed in this video. A cracked solder joint, loose component or a missing ground or maybe a combination of all are the root cause.
In this instance, this radio has seen quite a bit of hardship so after failing to repair the damage, the components causing the issue were removed and bypassed. This is not always applicable to curing this fault.
Thanks George good to see you on the job 👍
You bet
You suck 😅😅😅
That was an easy one George. I don't know where all the tabs go from the SO239 sockets? There must be a little man somewhere sitting taking them all out! That board wants a wash when your finished, looks like there was no solder connection untouched. I am sure it will be a grand working radio when you are finished with it George :-))
The funny this is, other than the bad connection, it works incredibly well.
@@GeorgeEI7KO Bonus :-))
It also can be caps to cold solider joint make you loose receive
I've yet to have a radio on my bench where a capacitor stops it from working.
I wish my repairs were as easy as this ,
You ain't on your own there John.
At least he uses a solider sucker and not solider wick
I use solder wick too. Depends on the job. It has its uses.
Looking at thew board on that radio,I can see river's of solder. Does that increase the resistance?
The larege ground planes on the board? They came like that from the factory.
@@GeorgeEI7KO I am learning a bit more and more all the time. Thanks
I did was a tube type used a pencil with a rubber eraser pushing down on the cap brought the receive back turned out to be cold solider joint used a 15 watt Weller gun and Flux problem solved
So it was a dry joint not the cap causing the issue....
That's fault looks familiar George. One of them anyway!
Its a regular occurrence mate...
them SWR boards are butt joint soldered and they fail all the time
Not a regularly seen fault on the PB010 Chassis
I’ve seen them removed as apparently they’re a waste of space
I wouldn't be depending on one for accuracy
Please speaka de English 😂😂😂
