Saw this Spit in the early 2000's and honestly, I've never seen a Spit so fast. She's now back to a single, 5-blade prop.
She crashed on a take off accident in France a few years ago. Wonder how the repairs are coming along…
@@frankkeustermans1223 All fixed now
There are two Seafire FR.46s being restored now, so we'll see another contra-propped Spitfire again some day
@@frankkeustermans1223 more power yet less reliability and more maintenance :(
I was there at Flying Legends in 2005 when this was displaying there. Absolutely incredible noise from the engine and one you just want to hear forever ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wish they made a lot of this version of the spits, with its dual counter rotating props, it would have run circles on the Germans best aircraft they have during WW2.
I remember that one. He was on airshows all over europe. Had a unique sound.
There's a video of a us seafire fr47 on youtube doing passes. Plenty of that sound you're talking of. Always liked the sound. Same with the Shackleton and fairy gannet.
The spitfire is such an interesting aircraft! I am mesmerized every time I look at it 😄
I recall an incident back in the day, when the transfer gear failed, and the a/c concerned would just about fly on just the one prop, with the dead one sucking away much of the power. At least after that it was known that it COULD fly with such a catastrophic failure.
The 2450hp translates into nearly 6000Nm of torque (at 2600 rpm) 😵
As beautiful a sound as a baby giggling ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful aircraft, both landings were great 😉
Interesting engineering!!!
Wowww -- that thing is an absolute monster running on those upgrades.
I like hearing his enthusiasm.
How could you not enthuse with all that under your left hand : )
Thanks to the gentleman explaining the flight abilities of this superb propeller aircraft,Bon Chance!
Thing of beauty
I'm guessing the Shackleton engine and prop set up has gone to one of the Seafire 46 projects now.
vive la france !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! merci christophe !!!! le plus beau spit pour moi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks WingsTV Channel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful
That sounds mean as hell
Mein gott ist das wunderbar... Ich liebe diese Technik... Sehr sehr schön.. Mfg Stefan Bartz
I was surprised to see a standard engine use a contra rotating prop. Normally thats reserved for turbo prop
The extra 400 horsepower needed all the propellor it could get - he said it was a Shackleton engine and the uprated Griffons in Shackletons came with counter-rotating propellors.
Wow!
Let's hope the airframe of the plane can resist to the additional stress of the engine.
Less stress possibly as there is no torque reaction.
My kind of hot rod
Can you race it against a PC 21?
Shame the engine was changed. Wonder why they took that engine out and replaced it with a stock Griffin engine
but how well does it dogfight? these are the real tests we need.
You really need to ask?...
The sound editing from 0:54 onwards is nuts. There is no need for the extra vroom vroom tracks being looped. Just keep the original sound so we can hear it.
It's not looped, it's actually flying in a tailchase sequence with NINE other Spitfires, that''s what you can hear
I prefer the sound of the Griffon over the Merlin
Each fabulous in their own way?
This isnt even my final form!
Not sure that you know the definition of the word you used, but when l looked it up 'contra' is a video game introduced in February of 1978 and has NOTHING to do with your video. The word you SHOULD HAVE used in reference to the two propellers is "COUNTER-ROTATING" AND not CONTRA. IF YOU RESEARCH THE MILITARY AIRCRAFT you will find a lot of airplanes having counter-rotating propellers and even in today's world you will find this set up somewhat common. Bottom line, the word "contra" is not a contraction nor is it even close to being a contraction for "Counter-rotating" as used in the area of aviation propellers. My background, retired airline pilot, flight instructor airplanes, instrument instructor and multi engine instructor, air-frame and power plant mechanic and last but not least, aviation history buff. Just to let you know, you are not the only person that does not know what you are talking about. There is one more person l saw on RUclips having the same mentality and being uneducated as to what you are trying to talk about. Derogatory comments are not needed, keep them to yourself ! ! ! !
Have a nice day
unless, ofc, you are making said comments 🤣
Are you unwell?
This was from POF chino ?
No, Flying Legends at Duxford in the UK
@@WingsTVChannel No i meant did it originally come from POF at chino , looks exactly like one i saw in the late 80s
