Never thought I would be able to dive from an Island in the sky to a cave on a mountain, then swim through the mountain to its peak. Then build a rocket powered airplane and took off towards my quest marker but here we are. This game is insane.
Yes, this, recapturing that "first experience/impression" but with a new flavor. Who knew that was possible? Maybe it's because it's been over 4 years since I've touched Breath of the Wild 🤷
It's stunning honestly. I didn't imagine I would be able to get that same sense of discovery and exploration that I got when first playing BOTW, and yet here it is. Every turn, I see something new and weird and cool, and I love it.
Just looking back on BotW is... I hate to say it, but almost painful! Like I can't imagine going back to exploring the open landscape just to find another Korok stone circle... another Hinox... another ore deposit... another Korok puzzle... another Hinox, with a Talus nearby... Without any sort of underground or sky, the ground-only BotW was _just so limited,_ and I didn't even know it. It's kinda like when Assassin's Creed games finally started letting you go into buildings. It was like "Oh wow, the entire game is different now!!!" (except it was Ubisoft instead of Nintendo, so the whole idea was barely fleshed out and all the magic died on impact). Traveling through TotK compared to BotW is like getting your driver's license and changing from a bike to a car. Like getting your first debit card after getting an actual job. The streets and buildings of your town are all still the same.. and yet everything, _everything,_ is different.
Sorry but this is a game for babies. Link and Mario are the new Bert and Ernie. The vehicle building stuff is fisher price. Sorry I don’t play easy games. Our ancestors lived tough and terrible lives and today we live easy comfortable lives the least we can do to honor what they endured is to challenge ourselves like they were challenged and thus playing challenging games. to play an easy games is an insult to them.. ever heard of the dark souls games , those games are proper challenging and none of u would last two seconds playing them because you gone so soft playing baby Nintendo games. Get your acts together and challenge yourselves??
The sensation I got jumping down into the depths for the first time was up there with the feeling I had when I first experienced the seamless transition from planet to planet in No Man's Sky. Unreal.
Yes! 100%. I'm exploring the Depths for the first time right now and the feeling I got when first going down there and beginning to explore was so crazy. It was awe, happiness, tension, anxiety, thrill, all mixed together. Huge smile on my face. This game truly captures something special.
I was on the fence until I found myself exploring hyrule castle and hidden passage a few hours into the game. I knew I wasn't supposed to be there, but it was fkin amazing. I really love the fuse mechanic for weapons and arrows, so many crazy combos. Really gives you an incentive to kill harder enemies as you can fuse their parts onto your weapons to make some really strong stuff.
Same, I was getting kind of tired playing it (had been playing for hours). And I was like, "ok one last cave" before bed, I was stuck for another 3-4 hours exploring the ones beneath Hyrule castle. It was pure magic. The game is easily one of the greatest ever made.
@The Rebel ye it was crazy how big it ended up being. I went in basically naked with a club and emerged 3h later battle hardened with a sick armorset and loads of custom weapons I'd made. They've absolutely nailed the gameplay loop.
Hyrule Castle is one of the many places on my goto list before i actually start the main quest. Checked out the Forgotten Temple and Lost Woods already. Now I'm on the Great Plateau. Going to check out Faron and Lurelin next. Or maybe Lake Hylia. .... if I'm not distracted a hundred times first.
An overall improvement over BOTW in every way. What amazes me is what they were able to get the Switch hardware to do. The view distance is insane for this system.
It just goes to show you.. a great game will take a win over a powerful piece of hardware any day. I’ve played games that look amazing running at 120fps 4k and to be honest boring as sh*t. Your console can have all the bells and whistles but if your games aren’t fun then what’s the point? This is where nintendo excels. Their first party titles are always an experience and super fun.
The coolest thing about this game so far is the different conversations I've had with my friends that went just like this one. Makes me feel like I'm in middle school again talking about games.
Something that speaks for how good it is, is that they made me feel like I didnt play BotW before. 😂 The map is truly full of mysteries once again and I dont feel like I am playing on the same map I have played on before
I'm so glad to see that others feel the same way! I was wondering whether my memory is just worse than I thought, but I actually got a bit lost a few times despite playing BOTW just last year!😂
So accurate . Since it came out, I can’t stop thinking about playing this game. I’ve had a busy weekend so I’ve only played maybe 6 hours . But damn, what an amazing game

@@mingyuhuang8944 Best game I've played since Skyrim was reveal to this World, simple as that. Likely my 2nd Best Zelda game, or even joint 1st! Right now, just enjoying the ride!
Not to spoil anything plot related but it really speaks to its the same hyrule but different. When I got to Zora’s domain, that was a HUGE example of it. I knew where to go because of BOT, and It’s the same but also very different. I think they really put an effort into showing that familiar places can drastically change over time
I remember back in 1998 having discovered Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and going to work feeling smug as if I've discovered this divine being no one else has been privy to. Feeling chosen and I had this rejuvenation aiding my ability trudge through the daily grind. Nice to hear another generation experience a similar vibe.
@@EduFirenze The problem is, that's, word for word, what everyone said about SS, and BotW. And now, everyone has thrown those games away. People used to say BotW is perfect, never change anything, but now, it's worthless. The same is going to happen to TotK, but it's not going to need to wait for the next Zelda game, because it's just more of BotW.
@@TheDapperDragonI love BotW, but ofc it's not perfect. But it's a very focused, cohesive experience. I think history will look much more fondly on BotW than TotK.
I feel like you don’t have to forget breath of the wild or anything like that, but to look at them as just a continuation of the first game like god of war ragnarok. Not necessarily two separate games, they’re just an experience in their own respective ways with and each first installment is still as special as the sequel/next chapter.
It truly is. It just is. I lost my passion for gaming and even my favorite franchise, The Legend of Zelda, about 5 years ago. Just enjoy playing Minecraft with my boys. I preordered this knowing I may or may not play it. I adore this game. It’s just a fantastic game so far. Thanks to Nintendo, Aonuma, and Miyamoto!
Yeah. With the knowledge of the mechanics of BOTW mixed with 2 layers of new areas and I consider a 80% map revamp. It does bring the feeling of exploration back.
Fun fact for anyone who has played Ocarina of Time: The Great Plateau is approximately the size of what Hyrule was in Ocarina of Time. It really gives you some perspective on just how giant they've made BotW/TotK.
I was really surprised with how different this game feels simply because the Zonai abilities are different than the Sheikah Slate abilities. It really changes how you explore the world.
I put about 65 hours into Breath of The Wild and liked it, but definitely missed a lot of stuff. I thought the world was very empty for the most part, so I didn't have much motivation to keep going after the main story. However... With Tears of The Kingdom, I am savoring every little piece and taking it slow and having a blast. I have still barely touched the depths because I am wanting to save that for a bit. This game in my opinion, is so much better. The world is filled with much more to do, and the world is incredibly bigger. I love it.
The answer is yes I know because I didn’t like Botw. This is way better to me because there’s just more to do in the world, more secret areas, things to find, ways to get places. I mean yesterday I was going to a destination I knew where I was heading and was dedicated to getting there. Then boom a rock fell out of the sky and I couldn’t not recall it back up to the sky. This was right after I came from a shrine. I ride the rock back up to the sky boom another shrine I was super surprised. Then I got launched across the sky to another sky island finding an secret item. It was just great because the ground, underground, and sky all look and act entirely differently and the gameplay changes and you can be from one of those locations to another in seconds and in different regions as well. WHICH IS INSANE TO ME. I’ve never imagined this for an open world game
Also it’s like the world is so big you never want to leave an area because you feel like if you leave you’ll never be back and see that same area again lol and I love that
From my current time spent in totk I feel its a solid 9/10 *at the moment.* The things I have tiny hiccups with are admittedly just cosmetic things or are otherwise just not important (the ultra hand can be a tad clumsy I find). But everything else is just brilliant! The new enemies are refreshing and seeing old yet new areas is weird in a good way.
While playing last night I thought to myself: I might get a horse for some faster travelling. So I caught one and went to a stable to register it only to find out the game actually transfers your horses from BOTW so I already had four on file. Stuff like that is just pure brilliance
Honestly I was sceptical within the first few hours and thought I preferred botw, but now about 10-15 hours in I can say I was wrong. This game is amazing
One minor disappointment I have with TOTK is that it's impossible to have a 'no fast travel' run because of the underground chasms. EDIT: I just found out that there are places in the depths where you can use ascend. So technically you can get out of it without fast travel.
They really should have not been so strict with balloon and wing use times. I was really looking forward to riding a balloon out of the Depths. The Survey Team can ride balloons into and out of the Depths, why can't I?
I’m really enjoying the game. I’ve played for about 10 hours so far. My biggest concern is the Fuse mechanic. It’s fun at first but I’m afraid it could start feeling tedious later on in the game. Also the puzzle’s are more difficult this time around it seems like. I’ll reserve judgement for now but so far it seems to be at least as good as breath of the wild.
One of my favorite tiny little changes is that when you open up a chest and it's a weapon or Shield or whatever, and your inventory is full, it gives you the option to drop something instead of having to go back out and then manually drop something and then open the chest again
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 34:50 years he sticky lizard elixirs aren’t being sticky, I was climbing, it started raining, and I kept slipping to the point my stamina ran out. It wasn’t even a very long climb, but it wouldn’t have mattered, kept slippin
I love the graphical dichotomy between photo realism backgrounds and lighting with anime main characters. It makes the illusion of being in a dream world.
@@hododod246 they have so many awesome puzzles and shrines in a lot of the sky islands, hell the water temple is up there. I don't understand the gripe.
I'm on my 2nd attempt on the underground area after following a Dragon go down there. Not sure where I'm going but i found "notes" that talk about a Huge Door somewhere in the South where loud "monster" like noises are coming out off.
I think it feels smoother too until you run into a bunch of enemies. Frame rate kinda sucks. Excellent game though. Only a few hours in and it might be in my top 3 games of all time. Been gaming since the 90s. It will be a couple hundred hour game for me until I get sick of it. Worth the price. I wish playstation and Xbox still made good games. Can't get into anything on them lately.
Breath of the Wild was developed for the Wii U which, despite what some people may say, is a wildly inferior console to the switch. Tears of the Kingdom is just a great game where the developer has bothered to squeeze everything out of the system it's on. It's a stunning game regardless of what the hardware it's on
I still have yet to finish the BOTW DLC which I spent money on a few months back when it was discounted, but when I play that fully, I will definitely consider buying TOTK. This review helped get me more excited and look forward to eventually buying the game in a few months time - thank you guys!
Nintendo is at the edge of its seat waiting for u to decide to buy totk. Without your purchase it’s potential for success has a low ceiling. Please finish the dlc as fast as possible , we need u!!!
Its a good game that tries so hard for you to hate it every step of the way, and its an uphill battle. Clunky and confusing controlls with no way to remapp them, poor balancing (mogoblins do the same dmg as bosses 6-10 hearts) , Link takes forever to get back from the floor after been hit which is just annoying. Weapons break again, random rain make you lose time in real life so you can climb again. Performance is quite bad.Rewards for exploring is mostly not worth the supplies you lose, unless you find some armor which is not often. The music is the same ss botw, the world ,the enemies ,many bosses the same..insane asset reuse. Like a big dlc.Story is convoluted and contradicts Botw. All those including its a good game. Without those, it would be great
Fun fact about the depths: it's the exact same map as the surface, same level geometry and everything. What they did, was invert the height map, so mountains become craters and vice versa. Really creative way to re-use the same level geometry to save space, but still have it look really different and alien. It's sort of this game's version of the Dark World.
I disagree that the game feels alive and full of people, I definitely feel a lot of the time very alone especially for like the first 10 hours at least, and like if I compare this game to other Zelda games, not including breath of the wild, you rarely actually feel you are progressing because like for example, you might receive a new ability and feel you have unlocked part of the map in the past which gives a sense of achievement and progress. However, since you craft a lot, and are exposed to the whole map, you never really feel that what you are doing is useful, and you can waste a ton of hours, It doesn't really talk about receiving more hearts to actually face against stronger enemies or where you may find it, or how you can go back up to the sky and why, and I feel like I need to look up things here and there on youtube just to confirm things I think the game should have told me very clearly. Great game, but I really miss the atmosphere, the music themes, and the vibrant character of games like majora's mask or ocarina of time, even link to the past. Too much ambience and gloom for hours at times, I wish there was a better balance.
I've already had a ton of fun exploring, getting wrecked, and messing around with koroks. Every time i see one of the korok quests i sigh, grumble, and then smirk as i devise some new contraption to strap it to.
Yeah, I'm still one of those people who has been unsure. The hype got quite downplayed for me after the second trailer and I haven't felt pumped since, however I'm now watching a lot of reviews and gameplay since the game has released without trying to spoil myself and my hype is gradualy increasing. Thank you for this video you guys, it has been super helpful. What is the music in the background here, from the game I assume - it is absolutely beautiful!
The best part is going from playing original NES mario and LOZ to this. The starting ages and landmarks of home video games only happened once. Experiencing them all as they happened is priceless and unrepeatable.
Hey guys, thanks so much for the spoiler warning. This is the only game I'm trying to go in mostly blind with. I appreciate the concern for viewers like myself 😊
The Depths are slightly disappointing to me. I get that it's literally the "Dark World" to the surface, but I wish the layout of that layer didn't so closely match that of the surface. I really wanted some unique topography.
The thing is that nintnedo used botw as their starting point. Since they didnt need to build a new engine, graphic style or even design a whole new map, towns or characters, they coyld focus these 6 years on just adding on the base game, which makes this game like botw but much denser and creative. Thats why it dwarves botw.
@@logicalfundyThe sky islands are pretty sparse, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Depths were essentially auto-generated from some sort of algorithm based on the surface map. One biome, only two new Frox enemy types...kind of monotonous.
@@quibquiberton4184 my post was 5 months ago, I'm not even sure if it was after release or not. Turns out the game is great regardless and is one of the games I think has a good shot at GOTY.
My only complaint is I have to go into the menu to unfuse things so that I can fuse a weapon with something cooler I just found in the moment. Drives me crazy already. I hate having to go into the menu so much for that.
As an older guy in his late 30’s and a seasoned gamer since the age of 4. I’ve basically seen it all when it comes to video games. The sad part about living longer on the planet is that nothing really surprises you anymore. Yet both BotW and TotK has managed to capture me every time I sit down and play it. Something I don’t often feel in a video game anymore. If you’re new to the Zelda lore or are on the fence to picking this up. Do yourself a favour and play it for a few hours. You will be hooked.
Have 10h in it. It really is BoTW 2 but it's a perfect sequel. It adresses every negative point I had with the prequel. It expands it so much. THE VERTICALITY between the skies and the depths. The powers are more fun. The sandbox part is endgame. The story is actually there without needing to look for a random forest. It might be the best game of all times.
Ive spent so much time on the bottom layer at this point (40... landmarks) that i have mostly learned how to navigate by the glow of the threat. Sure, the seed items help, but i was not one to retreat just because i ran out. Instead, with a measly 4 hearts, i have explored somewhere between 33-50% before i finally started exploring the other layers, mostly for struggles with inventory (running out of supplies and weapon slots) and some of the puzzles that piqued my interest that span multiple layers of the world. On the flip side, i have mostly ignored the top layer for how hard it is to navigate with very little payoff. (i doubt much will match the size of the great plateau equivalent for this game outside of dungeons which are in themselves very isolated from the rest of the world.) So far, my only real complaint is that the game is a bit too linear at first. The starting sky island is great for what it is, but i was fully expecting to have free reign once i hit the surface. For the most part, that is true, but there were plenty of instances of "what's that?" "come back after the first dungeon" and it takes the wind out of my sails a bit. Minor very early game spoilers, but it is best represented by the paraglider. BotW? It is how you leave the great plateau to begin with. TotK? you have to visit a certain nearby town first, then do a few quests to set up the story in regards to how the world is reacting to the triforce trio's impact on the world. "How has ganondorf screwed everyone? How is zelda going to be saved? Who is link going to ally with?" The trend continues, with quite a few features needing to be unlocked by doing a very specific quest first. It is a minor complaint, but it is very easy to be overwhelmed by the abundant quests to unlock features or disappointed to discover something you cannot yet do, and not for any natural reason like the lack of a dungeon item from the zelda formula of old.
Yes !! It’s amazing but the puzzles are a little bit too much . I got to the desert area and boy was those puzzles hard to figure out . Had to look on RUclips for a few of them
A few of them I had to smack myself over the head once I figured out a much easier way when I was making it much harder than it needed to be. They can be very involved haha. I do love that you can solve puzzles in many ways.
@@Drstrange3000 lol very involved ! I was going absolutely crazy on the light puzzle and figured it out like an hour later lol . Very rewarding when you figure them out tho
its a crazy good game but after hundreds of hours of playing breath of the wild, Im bored of collecting map data and kooks and saving regions and Zelda, its just too repetitive.
I'm a pretty jaded, cynical gamer, and I went into this game thinking the Ultrahand & Fuse mechanic would make the game feel too much like Minecraft and be unrecognizable as a Zelda game. I couldn't happier to be so wrong. It actually feels like the original 1986 Zelda has been finally, fully realized. It's just amazing.
One thing the guys don't mention here about why play BotW before TotK is that the Horses you found in BotW get transferred over to TotK. Which i would guess that maybe Zelda's White Stallion and Ganondorf's Giant Horse might not be in TotK normally, plus it makes traversal easier if you start the game with a 5 Star Speed horse. One i wish i had found in my normal playthrough of BotW, if only I'd known.
I’ve played a little bit and it just hoping so bad that Paya turns out to be the sage that Mineru was in the past 🙏🙏 stopping with 4 sages when there were 7 in the past doesn’t make any sense so pls make Paya a sage 😭😭
non story spoiler cool thing I found while in the depths is that you can RIDE THE UNDEAD HORSES!!! I hopped on one of these things by accident after killing an enemy, and also they can traverse over gloom without getting harmed.
I finally explored the 3rd layer and im scared 😅. It is scary, weird and atmospheric horror and i only explore a bit. 😂 Im too weak at the moment..had to give up and come back when i have more hearts.
One word, yes! I got bored of botw pretty fast after rushing the boss and beating it before all the divine beasts. This one with the fuzing just feels so d*** fun!!!
This game is no where near as good as BOTW. It still feels like BOTW but now it has a crafting toll booth that is extremely annoying. The Crafting takes so much time and many times it doesn't work. It feels tedious at times. I miss the game play from BOTW. I wish the crafting and fusing wasn't such a major part... or worse all the combo of Fuse, crafting and time changing... .ugh... I keep waiting for the game play to get going, but it just keeps making me craft. Hope the tediousness ends soon.
I played botw for the first time in 2019. I freed all the divine beasts, beat Ganon and even solved all 120 shrines. But unfortunately I didn’t own the game myself, and was playing it on a friend’s console. Christmas of 2022 I went out and bought a switch and a copy of botw in preparation for totk. I thought I’d be tired of the game, and although I didn’t solve every shrine on this play through I had a lot of fun re-exploring Hyrule. But totk really knocked it out of the park, I was debating buying the game at all, but I thought oh well, may as well give it a shot. Now I don’t even want to go back to botw because the world in totk is so much more expansive. It kept the same story beats but turned up exploration to 11. I was worried I’d hate the fuse and crafting mechanic but I actually love it and it allows so much more fun and mind-bending puzzle solving. Totk also rewards you if you played botw, I made my way to Korok forest because it was where you found the master sword in botw but when I got there the forest was infested with gloom like everywhere else in Hyrule. The game directed me to the part of the main story I wanted (about the master sword) and introduced me to a new mini boss. The developers really knew what I was thinking and nodded their head to it. Also the Yiga clan story in the Depths was 10/10. I love the fact we banish Master Kohga to the depths in botw and in totk he takes on a much more involved role as he has made a home down there. Running into him for the first time was amazing, and so was seeing Hudson construction alive and flourishing. I love the fact totk encourages combat too. In botw I didn’t want to fight enemies because my cool weapons would break but in totk if you want cool weapons you HAVE to fight bigger and badder enemies so you can fuse their parts to your weapons.
I was a bit of a naysayer having loved BotW for its exploration, but felt TotK looked a bit too familiar. So far however, I am loving it. The first tutorial area (the equivalent of the Great Plateau) is a bit rubbish. It feels too much like a training area rather than a complete ecosystem, is one of the less pretty areas, and has too many chasms that act as invisible walls - but once you leave this area it really picks up. Retreading Hyrule has felt like a new experience. More like a new world with some familiar callbacks than a reused world with some new parts. Most of the new runes I have basically been able to ignore, not having any desire to craft. My biggest criticism would be Fuse. It's a pain whenever you pick up a new weapon or shield of having to augment it; fused weapons and shields often look stupid when Link is carrying them; and the way it replaces elemental arrows is a right pain in the bum. Nintendo, let me pre-fuse arrows in batches please.
It's nice to see someone with a similar mindset! The new runes seem neat in thought but come off as tedious in execution for me. I agree Crafting was never my main draw to this game, and I'm glad it's not super enforced. And same goes for Fuze. While fun to mess around with occasionally, especially on shields, I find it a bit ridiculous running around Hyrule with broadsword attached to a giant Boulder. (Also the elemental arrows having to be manually input every shot feels like such a blunder)
Yeah. It really is that good. I can’t even stop thinking about it. I randomly stumbled into a cave and found Fierce Diety boots! What the hell?! That’s so awesome!
I was quite worried about TOTK to begin with. I was not worried about the game having technical issues like Pokémon Scarlet/Violet as BOTW was well built. Pokemon Co just need more experience at developing 3D games. My concern was having played BOTW so much I got to a point where I became fatigued and could not bring myself to play it anymore. When I heard this game was going to be based in the same Hyrule I was concerned but also intrigued by the Skyward Sword element to world exploration. The introductory area is pretty much grand plateau v2 as that introduces us to the new mechanics before we can explore proper. I was starting to get concerned about familiarity but it was greatly appreciated as I was quickly able to get back into action having not played BOTW for over two years. The controls quickly felt natural again. Mind you I have had a few comedic control quirks like the classic bring up the wrong menus from time to time in panic mode combat. Then there is the classic face palming moments of death by SS diving head first into the floor when I mix up the dive and paraglider buttons. I think that is due to first area which lacks the paraglider. You get too used to diving into water. After spending 15 hours in TOTK I find myself hooked just like my early days of BOTW. Exploring the Sky islands and Hyrule is still immersive and I was amazed to find that there is another vast area of exploration that Nintendo left for us to discover ourselves. I have had many moments of heading to one location only to find curiosity getting the better of me and making other pit stop discoveries on route to that initial location. I love the new Arm mechanics and the variable difficulty. The introduction to the story was also amazing. I am very intrigued to see how the story develops as Ganondorf TLDR. In my first 15 hours (after last playing BOTW two years ago), I can say TOTK is really that good.
I was starting to get un-excited for this game because I saw the vehicles and the crafting, and I didn't want Zelda to turn into Minecraft or Fortnite or something. Then I listened to your review of the game and decided to pre-order it through Amazon. When I saw the Depths and everything it sold me on getting the game. I realized my pre-order wasn't going to get here until 11pm on release day, and I couldn't wait. So I pre-ordered it digitally on the eShop and booted it up at midnight. I played for twelve hours straight, and then another four hours when I woke up. Beat the Rito dungeon, and now am exploring the underground. I love everything about this game so much! I feel about this game the way the world felt about Breath of the Wild 5 years ago. Also, I tried to cancel my Amazon pre-order, but the cancel didn't go through. So I also have a physical copy that I am considering just holding onto because I like this game THAT MUCH. I'm only 16 hours in and it's an instant top 5 game for me. Now if only I wasn't also hooked on the Diablo IV beta right now!
One of my favorite memories so far in this game is finding a stone talus in a cave defeating it, and fusing its luminous stone heart to my shield which makes not only a badass shield but it glows in caves.
After finishing the quest of unlocking the first tower, the next main quest is i am being pointed to go to 4 different points in map. However, I am now not doing the quest at all but keep on exploring around to look for the shrines and tower, going into underground and the sky. I am trying to go back to the quest, but always got distracted by the surroundings. I think i need to get more serious on those quests soon because Link is the last line of defense haha!
There’s enough familiarity, comfort, and nostalgia from breath of the wild but an amazing amount of newness to it but only adds to the breath of the wild experience. We all knew coming in that we wouldn’t be struck the same way that we were by BOTW because it was just a game-changing experience, but this is as good as a direct sequel can get. And if this was a standalone with no prequel? This would be the breath of the wild!
Another thing that I noticed is that when you die the game reloads a previous point, you don't lose your materials (I can't remember if this is the case in BOTW but I don't think so).
No it wasn't the case with botw I recently played it and got so frustrated with losing my resources when I died. It was so annoying and I noticed this change right away, it was a welcomed surprise for sure
Speaking of your adventures in BotW feeling like they carry over... horses. Not only are they less useless, but you can get your horses from BotW in TotK. It registers "hey, there's a BotW save on this account that had horses boarded, you can use those same horses in TotK." This includes special horses like the Giant Horse, or the Royal White Stallion. Speaking of special horses, there's new ones in this game. Also, you can register I believe up to ten horses at once if you save up enough Pony Points for that reward level. In order to access your old horses, you do have to first catch a wild horse, then go to register it. When you do, the stablehand will be like "oh, looks like you've boarded horses with us before. I'll let you access those horses too." and then you can either keep the new horse or ditch it to get your old ones back. There are a few new special horses. Spot, Princess Zelda's Golden Horse, and the Giant White Stallion. The Giant White Stallion is another giant horse with a different color pallet, Princess Zelda's Golden Horse is basically solid gold, and Spot is a quest-based horse at Lookout Landing.
I would love a video on cool zonai contraptions/vehicles you build. although maybe in a week or so, so I'll discover more things on my own before then and not be too spoiled haha. (or you could maybe structure the video so as it goes on, you feature building parts that appear further into the game?)
My experience has been great. I was immediately hooked with the into section and the music begins to swell and sound ever more obscure…. Yes, more of this please lol Much better in my opinion than BOTW into. “Hey, wake up. Stuffed happened a while ago. You don’t remember it. But we’ll tell you later…. Have fun?!” And to now seeing the event that pushes the story further. It does a lot more for me to make me want to move on, want to explore and progress so I can put an end to big bad. 10/10 I feel like this is THE switch game to own
*SPOILERS* I got utterly astounded by the sheer size of Elden Ring's map last year and just how expansive it really felt, and the reveal of the depths scratched exactly the same itch, just so exciting and terrifying in equal measure
9:38 Tears of the Kingdom definitely does what a sequel is supposed to do. I can't say that I won't ever go back to Breath of the Wild (because in all honesty, I miss my Sheikah slate) But this game is definitely an improvement. And obviously because of the time skip, things have most certainly changed around here. I'm definitely going to make it a point to see all my old friends in all the towns I visited last time. I just made it to kakariko village last night, and oh what a development that is!
3:20 i wish i had known you could just keep hammering on it to break that, i also found a blocked rock path in the cave nearby, and just noped out of there into the snow, thinking i couldn't go any further in the cave.... guess i'll backtrack a bit to see what was actually there now.....
I’m liking ToTK a lot better than BotW. Just running around the map seems to have a lot more stuff than BotW like I’ve seen more enemies or there are encounters or someone to help or a place or cave or well to explore. It has been hard getting into my head when I see a well to make sure I jump down it. I also get distracted a lot more in ToTK and I did in BotW.
Nintendo Life, it'll be a few years before I might consider buying Zelda: TOTK for a couple reasons..........I'm currently tied up between Animal Crossing New Horizons & Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. And also I think I may have Korok Seed PTSD as I did actually collect ALL 900 korok seeds.....TWICE in Breath Of The Wild on both modes! And having found out that the Koroks are back in TOTK, that alone has deterred me from buying it currently. I'm instead, very much looking forward to when Hogwarts Legacy & Genshin Impact will be released late summer.
My first time down in the depths I got myself attacked by gloom covered bokoblins, freaked out when I couldn’t restore my broken hearts with food I had and noped myself out of there so quick. I was afraid to go back for several days of play!
Never thought I would be able to dive from an Island in the sky to a cave on a mountain, then swim through the mountain to its peak. Then build a rocket powered airplane and took off towards my quest marker but here we are. This game is insane.
I constantly go from "There's no way this will work, right?" to "How the f*&! did that work?!" and I love it.
See im not that smart or creative. I just put a steak on my shield.

I spent two days playing and it felt like 2 hours. Time moves very different when playing TotK. Very appropriate for a Zelda game.

I remember playing Ocarina Of Time 24 hours straight on 1st release. Time really flew by
It's stunning honestly.

The sensation I got jumping down into the depths for the first time was up there with the feeling I had when I first experienced the seamless transition from planet to planet in No Man's Sky. Unreal.
It’s quite literally unmatched
Yes! 100%. I'm exploring the Depths for the first time right now and the feeling I got when first going down there and beginning to explore was so crazy. It was awe, happiness, tension, anxiety, thrill, all mixed together. Huge smile on my face. This game truly captures something special.
Tears quite literally has stormed to being my # 2 Zelda. But when you're in the top 3, it's all moot anyway - any could be my Best lol.
Love the comparison, both such surreal experiences from childhood fantasies
I decided to go down a well thinking “It can’t be that deep.” Then I kept falling and falling.
@Obi-Wan duuuude that cave was a great surprise, it's like the "real tutorial" that hardens you into a more effective totk player
Will going to Hyrule Castle this early ruin anything story wise? Is it meant for the end of the game? Are you talking in Hyrule Castle, or beneath it?
An overall improvement over BOTW in every way. What amazes me is what they were able to get the Switch hardware to do. The view distance is insane for this system.

Imo yes. Im getting the same kinda feelings I got from playing BotW for the first time, which I honestly didnt expect at all.
No way can’t be. Hyrule isn’t that small cmon in oot
I love totk, i cant stop playing, i wish i had a whole week days off just to play the game😭
I was worried too but now I understand the durability system better, want me to share/spoil? It saved it for me
Yeah some puzzles I have absolutely no idea what i need to do and I refuse to look anything up.
If you are tired of making the same machine over and over again do the Josha quest
One of my favorite tiny little changes is that when you open up a chest and it's a weapon or Shield or whatever, and your inventory is full, it gives you the option to drop something instead of having to go back out and then manually drop something and then open the chest again

I’m impressed with how far you can see in this game, impressive! And it feels like the controls are tighter than Botw. Idk. Maybe not
I think it feels smoother too until you run into a bunch of enemies. Frame rate kinda sucks. Excellent game though. Only a few hours in and it might be in my top 3 games of all time.
First time i jumped down to the depths was at Huyrule castle, didnt realize i had no paraglider, game over :D

Should of taken those 6 years to actually make a different game that didn't just feel like the same retreaded slog...
They did design a new map - actually they essentially designed two new maps. The sky islands and the depths.
@@logicalfundyThe sky islands are pretty sparse, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Depths were essentially auto-generated from some sort of algorithm based on the surface map. One biome, only two new Frox enemy types...kind of monotonous.

I have 40 hours, and understand why it’s called tears of the kingdom. I don’t think its botw2
(i doubt much will match the size of the great plateau equivalent for this game outside of dungeons which are in themselves very isolated from the rest of the world.)
So far, my only real complaint is that the game is a bit too linear at first.
The only bad part is that all the weapons are decayed, but ig that’s nintendos way of inciting people to use fuse

I have to admit i do prefer the traditional linear zelda style. I don't really want every zelda game going forward to be strictly openworld.

One word, yes! I got bored of botw pretty fast after rushing the boss and beating it before all the divine beasts. This one with the fuzing just feels so d*** fun!!!
I’ve put almost 35 hours into it since Friday morning it’s blowing all of my expectations out of the water BOTW is my all time favorite game
Hope the tediousness ends soon.
it is. the first two hours i was like eh it’s not that amazing but now i think it’s wayyy better then botw
@@ts7844 its rather lame 15 minutes force fed dialogue and then another mandatory tutorial island for an hour.
I am very intrigued to see how the story develops as Ganondorf
TLDR. In my first 15 hours (after last playing BOTW two years ago), I can say TOTK is really that good.
Better than Botw already easily
It feels like coming home, but everything looks different and more exciting. Honestly loving the first few hours I've spent with the game.
One of my favorite memories so far in this game is finding a stone talus in a cave defeating it, and fusing its luminous stone heart to my shield which makes not only a badass shield but it glows in caves.
If you had horses on BOTW, they transfer over to TOTK. Assuming your using the same switch of course.
It's better than botw imho. Wells, caves , the sky, cool modified locations. Zonai tech building joy. More types of enemies.
Diving into the Gerudo Canyon chasm took my breath away i was absolutely terrified and amazed. But mostly terrified
(or you could maybe structure the video so as it goes on, you feature building parts that appear further into the game?)
also would be fun to see cool/weird solutions you thought up to puzzles
My experience has been great. I was immediately hooked with the into section and the music begins to swell and sound ever more obscure…. Yes, more of this please lol
Much better in my opinion than BOTW into. “Hey, wake up. Stuffed happened a while ago. You don’t remember it. But we’ll tell you later…. Have fun?!”
And to now seeing the event that pushes the story further. It does a lot more for me to make me want to move on, want to explore and progress so I can put an end to big bad.
10/10 I feel like this is THE switch game to own
*SPOILERS*
I got utterly astounded by the sheer size of Elden Ring's map last year and just how expansive it really felt, and the reveal of the depths scratched exactly the same itch, just so exciting and terrifying in equal measure
Best video game of all time. Seriously. I’m overwhelmed and in awe every time I boot it up
It’s great, epic, and all the things.
But some part of me misses the smaller scale and more streamlined progression of OOT, WW, TP, etc.
3:20 i wish i had known you could just keep hammering on it to break that, i also found a blocked rock path in the cave nearby, and just noped out of there into the snow,
thinking i couldn't go any further in the cave....
guess i'll backtrack a bit to see what was actually there now.....
My god is this game as amazing as people say it is do yourself a favor and give it a try
This game is so insane. The Depths are truly terrifying.
My first time down in the depths I got myself attacked by gloom covered bokoblins, freaked out when I couldn’t restore my broken hearts with food I had and noped myself out of there so quick. I was afraid to go back for several days of play!
Bottled lightning again? It's Botw but perfected the formula. It feels fresh and when I'm not playing it, I'm thinking about it. Great game.
