Really there are several ways to get elemental damage. I made a list the other day: fruit, dragon parts, likelike stones, lizal parts, chuchu jelly, keese parts, gems & gleeok parts. I was wondering when to use which...I think fruit & jelly should be for arrows as they break upon contact. So should keese parts as they give 2 for 1 abilities to your arrows. Gems are tricky bcuz they actually make magic rods...yu could launch them as arrows, but they have a wide radius & you could caught in that. You can ensure youre safe tho by sending them far or using upgraded armor
I find myself not really using that strategy as I like having the armor. It really comes in handy. Sadly, a wheel fuses onto a shield in the wrong orientation - it does use up battery for guarding so I think it does *something*, but if you try and shield-surf Link will just fall on his face. I think a Homing Cart does work and will indeed effectively shield-surf as long as you have battery. A Hylian Mushroom is a one-use version of the Spring - if an enemy hits it, they go flying, but only once.
Fusing a Stone Slab to a Shield is very handy for negating Fire Attacks. There's even a Shrine that demonstrates this in the Eldin Region. You can also use Planks of Wood, Ice Slabs, or Barricades from Enemy Hideouts to Negate Certain types of damage entirely, and they raise Defensive Power quite a bit. Idk about Durability though, and they're not all great for Shield Surfing. I like using a Cart or Sled for that.

*Spoilers for Gerudo* Lightning temple has a floor that has a Gibdo spawner. I think it’s the top floor before the elevator. If you put a few mirrors down aiming under the spawner, you can farm Gibdo bones at no cost which yield high damage on a bow. Riju can also fight them for you, and her weapons don’t break. You’ll need a Diamond ring though. That girl is worth it. Riju is best girl.
@@jeffreykimmet7805 Not at all. But you I don't know if the farm stops working after you beat the lightning temple. So you might want to farm a few hundred Gibdo bones before beating the boss. @@Rotomoo this is true, you can also hop through them pretty effectively if they're small enough, but there are a lot of bigger patches that it's better to tony hawk through
I typically fused rocks or Talus hearts to my shields. Won't let you shield surf, but great for mining! Plus the elemental hearts add their bonus on top of the damage you get when parrying. In terms of weapons though, I've found attaching elemental stuff to boomerangs insanely satisfying! (Plus the trail they make looks downright awesome!)
I found the ice dragon early and got a ton of spikes off her. Whenever I get a boomerang type weapon I always put an ice spike on it. Looks sick; and kicks ass.
Adding a ruby to your shield basically gives you 1 layer of cold resistance and adding a sapphire to your shield gives you 1 layer of heat resistance. They stack with clothes because it works slightly differently - the gems actually change the temperature instead of lowering the threshold. Makes it nice to be able to wear 1 less armor piece for temp and instead use an attack boost armor or whatever effect you want
My favorite so far has been a simple one. In the camo you were at I had a boomerang, which I generally never use. But this time I fused it with an explosive barrel and threw it right into the monster nest and all but the boss was either taken out or brought to at least half health. Made the whole thing so much easier from the start.
Not enough love for the fuse mechanic. I get that Ultrahand let some madness loose, but Fusion felt like what an LoZ crafting system should be. I hope the next game builds on it.

Wow. You guys REALLY missed the opportunity to Shield Surf w a Rocket WHILE PARAGLIDING! It's actually VERY effective for that purpose. Not only does it rocket you forward but it gives lift as well! By fusing multiple shields with Rockets & switching them mid flight so they don't despawn, you can cross HUGE portions of the map quickly just by Paragliding. Can't believe you guys somehow missed that factoid.
Fusing a wing to a shield allows you to shield jump high enough for a single bullet-time arrow shot. Fusing frozen meat or fish works the same way as Ice, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't break. Fusing any mushroom to your shield will guarantee that you disarm an enemy when parrying, regardless of the shield's guard stat, meaning I can disarm a silver boss bokoblin wielding an ultra strong weapong with a pot lid and hylian shroom.
I actually liked the Zonai flashlight on the shield when roaming the darkness. sometimes you just need a bit of a spotlight to check if you're at a cliff, and it saves using bright blooms.
Didn't think fusing shields onto weapons was great at first, but then I learned every shield has a hidden attack value for fusions, so they're actually a pretty solid option for balancing offence and defense with two-handed weapons. In fact I'm starting to take a liking to using shield spears. Just a shame attacking also uses up the shield's durability.
Dragon scales seem to be specifically for shields. they do the same as spike shards but are smooth so you can still shield surf, also keeps the sleek shield look. light dragon scales heal you on shield bash and parry, just like attacking.
For surfing, frozen meat is actually better than ice platforms! They both work the same, but ice platforms have low durability and can break mid-surf even if your shield is fine, while frozen meat shields last until the shield itself breaks!
I can't believe you didn't try this....... frozen meat on a shield gives the ice block feel without the fuss of melting!!! My FAVORITE shield fuse (for durability increasing) is..... (very minor Depths Spoilers ahead)...... ...... ...... ....... The metal spike guard that can be found in Yiga forts/hideouts!!!! It's "meant" to be attached to vehicles as a protection while driving.....but my 1st shield I fused it to has yet to break!!! After defeating the single Yiga member w/ the red symbols, look around their camp for where Zonai parts are (I always find at least 2 metal spikes in each camp)........ Sometimes the spikes are a bit hidden so use Ultrahand to locate them. This combo is amazing for me. It causes decent parry damage (+10) But the biggest thing (bug or working as intended IDK)..... I have YET to have my shield break!!!! I have many really good shields, including several Sea Breeze from Amiibos & Bargainer buys. I have used the SAME shield for hours & it hasn't even reached the "blinking" warning yet.
That's just because the base shield is the only one that receives the fusion durability buff. Fusing a shield onto the other isn't protecting one in any way. I believe it's a waste of a shield when compared to fusing to a material.
I want to say the square stone slabs found in the depths are good fro making a shield better at shielding, but idk if it's really true. It kind of makes me wonder is such a shield would have the same resistances and weaknesses that stone objects you break open do? At least it blocks all forms of elemental damage.
I must try that like like shield systems. One thing that I did for most of my playthrough was have a shield with the luminous talus heart that really did help in finding your feet in the dark
As soon as I found a mirror, I IMMEDIATELY attached it to a shield and I felt so satisfied seeing it say "Mirror Shield". ...of course, I'd much rather have a traditional mirror shield... but hey, its an improvement. Considering all the shields they gave us in BOTW why couldn't we have gotten a traditional mirror shield as well?!
One thing I was trying to find but sadly doesnt seem to exist is I was attaching stuff to my shield to shield surf on water. Tried boards, tried float objects from shrines, tried fusing a boat to the shield. None of these worked so guessing you cant do it
I love rocket shields and cart shields! I also love having a ruby shield so I can use it for heat in cold areas. Recently I put a Naydra spike on a shield and it looks cool, plus it glows a bit. (And then the shield is called Naydra Shield). Not sure if it works for cooling down in hot areas but I’d guess so!
This is amazing! Thank you so much for this! Shield surfing is how I got around like 90% of the time in BOTW and now because of this it’s so much better!
Rocket shield surfing in the air is a handy way to get some distance, kinda like Tulin's gust but not as good and yes the rocket will keep going while using the paraglider
Fuse a fallen star to your shield and it produces a decent amount of light for free. Its closer to a tier 1 glow effect so its minor, but it costs almost nothing to have it on your shield. I keep one on me for exploring and change shields for combat or surfing.
Fusing a flier to your shield will give you a very silght increase in height when you try to do a shield surf after jumping. The height is not at all impressive BUT it is JUST enough height that the game will allow you to enter bullet time if you aim your bow! So it's a great way to freely and easily enter bullet bow time on demand, from the ground.
oh, second and third piece of advice- broken armor from enemies or spiked metal plates will damage enemies that attack you when fused to your shield, even if you just block and don’t parry. this makes farming the keese swarms that appear at night or that bust out of caves really easy: just put up your shield and wit for them to rush you at night, or just hold up your shield when entering a cave and if the keese come rushing out, all the ones that come in contact with your shield will poof, and you can gather up those much needed eyes and wings! easy peasy! finally, try sky diving at night. it seems programmed into the game to make it more likely for a shooting star to fall next to you while diving, allowing you to catch them in the air. this has happened to me around half a dozen times now, and there are many vids of it happening, so it’s definitely not a fluke. definitely try this if you really need some falling star fragments.
The best use I have found for the Korok Frond is a lightweight structural material that can be modularly disassembled just by picking up the frond. So my escape hoverbike is attached to the side ballast of my blimp base with a Korok Frond and it allows me to make my escape simply by standing on the control stick, pivoting to the frond, and pressing A twice to detach it and hop on the controls.
@sirtaugs i dont think it does less damage to the shield and i'm not sure what the durability ratio is for rock weapons vs rock shields. i just do this because it's faster and it leaves more weapon inventory space for high damage stuff
Fusing rubies to your arrows gives you a RIDICULOUSLY op explosive arrow, sapphires give the same but for ice attacks (topaz presumably the same for electric attacks but i haven't tested) Medium enemy spoilers below You can kill a pack of gloom spawn with just one sapphire and two ruby arrows, freezing enemies gives you a massive multiplier so freeze them first then light then up, if you do it from high up enough you don't even need to leave bullet time, it's admittedly a really expensive way to deal with them but very useful if you need to take them out, be mindful to be at very long range though as you can and will get yourself doing it
I love fusing the cannon to break the rocks that cover cave openings, also homing cart zonai devices are good for shield surfing/skating since they just keep running those treadmills
Gems on shields can actually raise or lower your temps to stay warm, or cool. Not as much as a full armor set, but similar to carrying the torch in botw to stay warm.
It's also worth noting fusing zonai wings to a shield makes your initial shield surf jump higher than usual This gives you just enough air to enter bullet time with a bow on flat ground Pretty helpful
More than just helpful; if you're fast enough with aiming, this can be used to cheese straight through Lynel & Gleeok fights. Gleeoks might not even get a chance to enter their desperate strike phase, if you do it right.
Like Like stones actually make for excellent elemental AOE items! They're like a middle ground between a ChuChu jelly & a Gem! So ya, definitely worth attaching one to an arrow or just throwing it. The Shield thing sounds even more handy tho so they aren't just a one time use thing. I haven't tried attaching one to a weapon yet, not sure if it's a one hit use thing on weapons or not.
Iirc, stuff like shock fruits [ and any other items that are "burst" type items when used] are one-hit items when on weapons. The exception to this is the Forest Dweller weapons, which let burst items last multiple hits when attached before running out.
The shrine exclusive devices seem to have been specifically designed with low fuse values, but I’m about to try the buoy ball on a pond… there are likely others with not-so-intended uses…
You just unlocked up a BUNCH of new questions I have.... Can we kill enemies by throwing eggs and tomatoes at them now? Or does that enrage them? What happens if we throw those at NPCs? ... the stable trotters maybe?? WHAT ABOUT GANON?!

just fuse a rocket to a bunch of your shields, and once one expires, just switch rocket shield midair and continue.
This tech is not reliable on norml circumstances tbh.. Some areas tho it's really effective and cool-looking.
The reason you can't replicate it is because the strat probably only works in the low gravity environments
okay so this means a shield only run is 100% possible

Lightning temple has a floor that has a Gibdo spawner.
Does it really matter what order I do the Temples in? Because I want to do the Lightning Temple next
@@jeffreykimmet7805 Not at all. But you I don't know if the farm stops working after you beat the lightning temple.
So you might want to farm a few hundred Gibdo bones before beating the boss.
At the very least, beat the boss, but leave that spawner working.
Maybe it'll still work after the Boss is dead.
cart shield is a game-changer in the depths, i used to waste several minutes figuring out how to get around gloom patches but now i get excited for the excuse to skate over them. i hear the wing shield is good for triggering the focus shot, but i also like to use it whenever i'm in free fall, it doesn't give you extra mobility or anything, but i like to pretend it does and it looks wicked cool
Nice, gloomy only takes your max hp if you stand in it for too long. So if running through the gloom would only be for a little bit, you're fine to just run through it.
@@Rotomoo this is true, you can also hop through them pretty effectively if they're small enough, but there are a lot of bigger patches that it's better to tony hawk through
im glad I'm not the only one who wingshields just to look cool
Using Ascend and launching out of Skyview Towers 300 times more awesome-looking with a Wing-shield on your back. 😎
Giant boomerang with ice lizalfos tail is definitely worth a try.
I found the ice dragon early and got a ton of spikes off her. Whenever I get a boomerang type weapon I always put an ice spike on it. Looks sick; and kicks ass.
Beam emitter fused to giant boomerang = instant rave of death
Made the whole thing so much easier from the start.
it's Hyrule roulette with the boomrang bomb. Either the enemy gets damaged, or it comes back to you

Not enough love for the fuse mechanic. I get that Ultrahand let some madness loose, but Fusion felt like what an LoZ crafting system should be. I hope the next game builds on it.
Hah! "Builds" on it. I see what you did there.🤭😏
In the next game, we'll get to Fuze NPCs to our swords.

A bookcase shield is pretty fun... But like the bees, the novelty wears off 😅
I absolutely love the variety of Totk tips/fact videos because there’s a mix between the obnoxious and annoying videos that don’t add spoiler warnings *cough cough rage gaming videos cough* and then there’s the amazing ones like these that add spoiler warnings and are enjoyable
I know regular mushrooms make stuff "bouncy" so I imagine the same would be for shields. This video was great, it gave me so many ideas. Thanks!
It’s handy to find Luminous Talus and use their hearts to attach on shields so you have a pretty good glow in dark places when you dont want to bother with glow food/clothes!
wow i thought my skateboard was so cool then this dude came out with the HONEY, WHERE'S MY SUPERSUIT shield
Fusing a shard of dinraal or naydra is a great way to keep yourself warm or cool in areas of the game that require it. You can also use the shard to proc the element by parrying with it, even lighting fires with dinraals shard.
I think it's easier just to fuse a ruby or Talos heart to stay warm rather than using dragon parts which are pretty hard to get
@@donniecupples6721 the dragon back spikes are 100 times easier to get than rare gems like rubies or sapphires. I have hundreds of each back shard. Once you have all the towers unlocked for the map, any time you see a dragon ping it with your telescope and travel to the closest tower or sky shrine and land on the dragon. They all have fixed paths and are relatively easy to spot since they are so massive.
Shield rocket was really helpful for me when fighting a fire Gleeok. I had several shields prepared with rockets, and I used them to gain altitude and fire at the eyes while time was paused in mid air.
More of these videos please! There's so much to try in TotK that I'm not even afraid of having combos spoiled to me, I want to bring everyone together and hear and see all of the ideas and inventions, especially with that lovely NL presentation quality ~
Thanks for the bird egg tip. I'll give that one a try
if you fuse a Star Fragment to your shield, it lights the ground around you.
I use the Talus drop to emit some extra light along with a certain costume. Great for the depths
I just found out you can use Gale just before throwing something like a bloom and it makes it go much further. Useful for saving arrows in the depths.
Your spoiler advertise board is amazing :)
For the Shield+Shield combo, shield-surfing will break the secondary shield before the first.
That's just because the base shield is the only one that receives the fusion durability buff. Fusing a shield onto the other isn't protecting one in any way. I believe it's a waste of a shield when compared to fusing to a material.
Putting a Ruby or Sapphire on a shield also gives you one tier of environmental protection, which is great
A ruby shield will also melt ice around you without needing to do anything
Fuse the Hudson cardboard cutout to your shield and people will think you are Hudson.
I'd attach a mirror to the mirror shield and make a mirror mirror shield
@@toshironikko ...aaaaand that's how you summon demons. 😉
I'd call it close enough if a Perfect Guard deflects certain magic attacks or projectiles back.
@@codyrobbins7985 if a mirror looks at itself in the mirror, what does it see?
One thing I was trying to find but sadly doesnt seem to exist is I was attaching stuff to my shield to shield surf on water.
Tried boards, tried float objects from shrines, tried fusing a boat to the shield. None of these worked so guessing you cant do it
Fusing a spring to the shield makes it also deflect proyectiles like big rocks too
Sure, but it's way more satisfying to use recall on them as soon as the enemy lets go of them
I love rocket shields and cart shields!
How can you shieldsurf?

Fusing a water item onto a shield and surfing makes you go way faster and lose no durability for a time (like the rain)
Fuse a luminous Talos heart to your shield for a reliable lantern. It's like having the glow buff on. Opal magic rods have the same effect.
Wow you've got a lot more stamina than health! I've gone the other way in this one! Enemies hit super hard now!
Rocket shield surfing in the air is a handy way to get some distance, kinda like
Tulin's gust but not as good and yes the rocket will keep going while using the paraglider
those ice blocks ar eridiculous. I made loads of them stuck together to cheese a shrine, or rather, freeze a shrine.
Fuse a fallen star to your shield and it produces a decent amount of light for free. Its closer to a tier 1 glow effect so its minor, but it costs almost nothing to have it on your shield. I keep one on me for exploring and change shields for combat or surfing.
I really need to start experimenting more in this game. I feel like I'm still playing it more like breath of the Wild. Thanks for the video!
I wish I could Fuze the monster statues you make at the town to weapons. I want to beat a monster down with himself.
A luminous stone talus heart (or whatever it's called) on a shield is a great way to see in dark places
If you fuse a fallen star it glows super bright, brighter than the glow clothes in my opinion, super useful!
The luminous talus heart will produce light on a shield. The igneo/frost hearts will heat/cool respectively and you can parry to start fires.
oh, second and third piece of advice- broken armor from enemies or spiked metal plates will damage enemies that attack you when fused to your shield, even if you just block and don’t parry. this makes farming the keese swarms that appear at night or that bust out of caves really easy: just put up your shield and wit for them to rush you at night, or just hold up your shield when entering a cave and if the keese come rushing out, all the ones that come in contact with your shield will poof, and you can gather up those much needed eyes and wings! easy peasy!
finally, try sky diving at night. it seems programmed into the game to make it more likely for a shooting star to fall next to you while diving, allowing you to catch them in the air. this has happened to me around half a dozen times now, and there are many vids of it happening, so it’s definitely not a fluke. definitely try this if you really need some falling star fragments.
The like stone idea blew my mind. Thanks
I love gliding around on my frozen meat shield, then temporarily switching to a rocket shield and doing a boost jump whenever i lose too much speed.
The best use I have found for the Korok Frond is a lightweight structural material that can be modularly disassembled just by picking up the frond. So my escape hoverbike is attached to the side ballast of my blimp base with a Korok Frond and it allows me to make my escape simply by standing on the control stick, pivoting to the frond, and pressing A twice to detach it and hop on the controls.
fusing a rock to your shield means you can parry ore deposits. it breaks them instantly like the 2 handed rock weapons, but it's faster!
Damn i had done this is the shrine where you got fuse, and then forgot, thanks for the reminder 😂
Does it do less damage to your item? Should I be mining with a shield instead of a weapon?
@sirtaugs i dont think it does less damage to the shield and i'm not sure what the durability ratio is for rock weapons vs rock shields. i just do this because it's faster and it leaves more weapon inventory space for high damage stuff
Fusing rubies to your arrows gives you a RIDICULOUSLY op explosive arrow, sapphires give the same but for ice attacks (topaz presumably the same for electric attacks but i haven't tested)
Medium enemy spoilers below
You can kill a pack of gloom spawn with just one sapphire and two ruby arrows, freezing enemies gives you a massive multiplier so freeze them first then light then up, if you do it from high up enough you don't even need to leave bullet time, it's admittedly a really expensive way to deal with them but very useful if you need to take them out, be mindful to be at very long range though as you can and will get yourself doing it
I love fusing the cannon to break the rocks that cover cave openings, also homing cart zonai devices are good for shield surfing/skating since they just keep running those treadmills
I love how much thought they put into this game :)
fusing the different "armor shard" items dropped from armored enemies to shields seems to increase the durability by a good amount.
Gems on shields can actually raise or lower your temps to stay warm, or cool. Not as much as a full armor set, but similar to carrying the torch in botw to stay warm.
It's also worth noting fusing zonai wings to a shield makes your initial shield surf jump higher than usual
This gives you just enough air to enter bullet time with a bow on flat ground
Pretty helpful
More than just helpful; if you're fast enough with aiming, this can be used to cheese straight through Lynel & Gleeok fights.
Gleeoks might not even get a chance to enter their desperate strike phase, if you do it right.
That "wee" sounded so nice.
Sled Shields are amazing for any smooth surface like the Depths or sand
The shrine exclusive devices seem to have been specifically designed with low fuse values, but I’m about to try the buoy ball on a pond… there are likely others with not-so-intended uses…
you can save those in auto build as well and use them for boats. there's also a flat rectangle version in one shrine along with 2 of those balls.
@@spritsfal5088 sadly nothing unique. I was so disappointed.
You just unlocked up a BUNCH of new questions I have.... Can we kill enemies by throwing eggs and tomatoes at them now? Or does that enrage them? What happens if we throw those at NPCs? ... the stable trotters maybe?? WHAT ABOUT GANON?!
Ganon already has egg on his face.
Fusing a wing glider to a shield and then shield surfing will give you an extra boost in height, nothing special apart from the height and cool appearance. Infact I think it'll make you tumble if you actually try to surf on it
The extra height is just high enough for you to enter bullet time with a bow. Doesn't last too long, like 2 seconds top, but it's an option
Wing + shield makes you jump high.
