We tried on at our beach house to put a fence post in on the dunes. It did work well but the hole ended up being one foot deep and twelve feet around.

How ironic that your name is Sandy too 😂
Is your husband's name Tanner by chance? Would've been hilarious strolling by the beach and seeing your hubby tanning on a lawn chair while you were vacuuming all the sand up 🤣

I'm from Florida, where the 'soil' is more like fine sand.
Just got through putting a 13' long 2" PVC pipe about a foot under my driveway, so I can run a garden hose from that side of the house to the other in a more permanent fashion.
I sawed teeth into a 2" coupler, similar to this product, and attached it to a 5' length of 2" PVC. Yeah, I would like to have kept it 10' long, but I didn't have the ability to make a trench that long. Anyway, I had a 6' trench pointed in the direction I wanted to go. Attached the end of the pipe to my new Ridgid vac.
It was cramped quarters where I was working, but after the 5' stick made it in, I glued another 5' stick on and went some more. After that was in, I glued on a 3.5' piece and made it the rest of the way.
Now it's time to glue on long sweep elbows (or 45s) and make a rain cap loop. But, it's evening in Central Florida in the middle of November, and the mosquitoes are out.
These are snow-birds from New York I think. They're HUGE and very pushy, like they have fur coats on. Not kidding.

I loved your snowbirds from New York comment! ❤
I'm shocked no one liked your comment. It made me and my husband chuckle. 😂😂

@@kathleenbrown1395 HAHAHA! Such is my life! Thanks!
On a side note, I installed 5 sections of vinyl Home Depot fence this past spring using a similar method. I bought 6 - 8' x 2.375" galvanized posts, cut teeth in one end like the hole vac, and stuck an 8 foot x 1.5" PVC pipe in them, connected to my shop vac. Along with a horizontal handle bar clamped to the pole & a 5gal pail of rocks hanging from the top, I used sucked out whatever dirt made it into the galvanized post, sinking them 4 feet into the ground.
Since I wasn't sucking directly from the galvanized pipe, the dirt was very tight around the poles. And at 4' deep, they were VERY solid.
SWI Fence sells 'donuts' that fit on the top & bottom of what is out of the ground, and the square vinyl fence posts fit perfectly onto them.
They're more hurricane resistant than the typical 2' deep concrete that most people use. And... there's NO concrete to mix. YAY!!!
I hope to post a video of it someday, but I only had a cell phone to record. And I'm over 60 years old, retired from I.T. so I'm no superman either.
If you're interested in the basic concept of a 'no-dig' vinyl fence, look up SWI Fence on RUclips. They're awesome.

i ordered this...my experience in sacramento ca....this is for the very very casual gardener...this is not for construction purposes...i had to dig 2ft holes for post. after getting everything attachedd and dragging the vac across lawn area and getting it set up to go i gave it a try because i am disabled i thought this would be easier...NO MORE Tired arms...sorry my arms were tired after twisting and twisting this thing...it got to about 1 foot before it just couldn't dig anymore i was basically twisting it in place...so back to the shovel...i realized it was just easier to use the good ole' shovel...I'm not saying this product didn't work but for them to advertise 24 inch and 36 inch holes...no way...unless its dirt like powder you are digging in but the average dirt usually is like clay at a certain point and this did NOT cut it...i face booked the company and requested they make a video like holey moley digger where you actually see someone diiging it without the camera leaving the scene for a second and they have yet to post something in a natural everyday setting like post digging like holey moley did...i never ordered that but i think it is a way better product just very pricey for my job but if i had to do a lot more holes i would definately go with holey moley digger...plus the inventor, maker got back to me by email and was totally educated and wanted more information from me to help me with my digs...this company did not message me back or see if it worked nor posted a decent video of someone digging a hole from start to finish whole picture ...it was video of after the holes were dug people putting a post in or a prop...so save your money because even if you are super lazy like me...it took more energy putting it together, dragging it to the site and hooking electricity when i could of just went to the shed, grabbed the shovel and dug....

Thank you for your feedback for Sacramento soil. Did you tried a holey moley digger eventually? It looks very similar

The biggest improvement that could be made is to use a gallon bucket turbo filter. (You can find some great videos on making them. )
Then your vacuum will stay clean for ever. I use the shop vac to clear out dirt flooded Cristy boxes that are packed with utilities. You can completely clean them out and it’s non conducive when you’re using it with high voltage hot boxes ad well. The shop vac is the best tool for those jobs. Also after a post hole digger has bottomed out and you can’t open the handles anymore just keep going using the vac to remove the dirt after you break it up. You can go until the handles are at ground level if needed

lmfao.. yeah maybe if you're in the burbs and you're doing flower beds that are back filled with soft peat mix. I can barely get my steal auger into my clay where I'm at.

      You shouldn't steal someone's auger.

you should show this in action with a pressure cleaner, and a shop vacuum that can deal with water.

It looks very fragile. I do not think it will work for clay soil. please correct me if I am wrong. I want to make a horizontal drill through clay soil to make a drainage channel underneath a concrete slap. Any suggestion?

3 years late, sledge hammer a rod under, chase back with a small steel cable, attach chain to steal cable and pull through with a winch or a truck to widen the hole to the size of whatever you need to pull through.

No you keep the filter on for dirt and stuff like this

    • @Cyberbronco
      @Cyberbronco Год назад

That’s going to ruin the filter immediately. A more coarse filter should be part of the package.
