“I don’t know man he feels weirdly iconic” damn right spikes the best character on the show
I wonder what the original plans for him were.
@@Yora21 The actor has said in interviews that his character wasn't supposed to be there for so long but he kept getting called back.
He's the best character on the show until later seasons at which point the character kind of becomes...weird. Though I guess you can kind of say about all the Buffy main characters other then Giles(who doesn't really have any weird arcs).
"I don't know guys, he seems wierdly... iconic"
👀
I mean if they've ever heard anything about buffy they must know it's hardly hidden
Once again, Chris is the smartest guy in the room.
The accuracy
James Marsters and Juliet Landau take this show to a new level and the show goes from strength to strength from here.
13:56 - "Damn, she's John McClane out here." Aaannnd...thus the meaning of the episode title "School Hard". (It only took me about twenty years to piece it together. LOL)
omg............................... my brain just exploded
Holy Crap, i didn't even...
Daaaaaaammmmnnn!
Oh shit. All this time I've been pronouncing it School *Hard* when I should have been saying *School* Hard.
How did this never occur to me? I wonder how many people actually know this
"He seems weirdly iconic." A thousand times, yes.
A thousand, thousand times. They don’t even know how blessed they’re about to be.
Spike really said "I'm Batman!" and jumped dramatically from a ground level window. 💀💀💀
Definitely got that from Angel
Wait till he does his perfect 10/10 GTFO dive in S4
@@rachelespiritu4215 Nobody in this series knows how to use a door, especially not vampires.
Nobody knows how to brake when people wander into the road, either. It's a serious problem.
Spike is the goat. A shame that not everyone was here for his intro, but eh lol.
The Man, the Myth, the Legend
@@Yora21 Forreal Why is Surge only here for the bad episodes?
Spike has always been a SIMP🤣🤣🤣
do they watch it on their own later if they're not there for the reaction tho ??
@@RoseJackson1607 Yes they have caught up on their own when not with the group.
The official reason they killed off the Annoying One (as he's affectionately known in the fandom) is that the actor was changing too fast, but the pivot to Spike and Drusilla is one of the best story decisions the show ever made.
"You're not making it past this episode"...it was at this moment that everyone burst out laughing.
Spike showing up is extremely important to this show.
I'll fall in line with the crowd and say how happy I am that you guys are on this episode with the intro of Spike and Drusilla. If there is anyone that isn't 100% in on this show, by the end of this season, you will be.
Micky: “he seems weirdly iconic.”
EVERYONE watching this: *heavy breathing*
Oh man, y’all are officially in Spike and Drusilla territory. I’m calling it now, Rana is gonna end up loving Drusilla. And Spike is like… legit one of the best characters to ever grace a tv screen. His introduction marks the trajectory of this show into legendary status. And I don’t think that’s overselling it. The next couple of seasons are about to be mfing nutssss I’m so EXCITED
She gonna love BOTH of them.
@@wisewillowgames YES!
i think it was chris that said that btw lmao
Your reaction to Drusilla is *PERFECT!* She was my childhood monster under the bed, she scared the shit out of me; at night, I'd start imagining her behing every door, every corner.
Ahh now the show just started. Spike is the best character.
And let's not forget Dru! They're both so awesome, though.
I’m going to comic con to meet James masters tomorrow yay
@@Melanie-jy2nw Oh my god, that's awesome! He seems like a really sweet guy.
Absolutely my favorite character in the Buffyverse. If I'm being honest, he's one of my favorite TV show characters of all time. The acting, dialogue, character arc, appearance, all of it. Just an amazing character!
@@Melanie-jy2nw Nice! James Marsters is a nice fella. :)
The debut of the best character of the whole show.
Of all the weeks for Suraj to miss!
Seriously
Suraj always misses the important episodes for reaction
This is of course the introduction if 2 important characters, but I agree with Mickey that this is when the show reset its goals and started laying their plot for the season.
*FINALLY* I've been waiting for you guys to see that scene between Snyder and the cop since the very first reaction! Now you can get a better idea of how things work in Sunnydale; and wait for season 3, you'll learn even more about the town's politics. ;-)
The fight and the banter between Spike and Buffy was just SO iconic!
It's Ben Franklin with the key and a kite.
You see it, right?
Part of me feels like they cornered themselves with the kid, since I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been allowed to show like the kid murdering people, the kid getting beheaded by Buffy, or even the kid fighting at all. Complicated thing, so they didn't really do anything with the Anointed one. I feel like he should have died with the Master somehow on s1 but I like this as Spike's introduction, the wild card element.
I basically think of everything that happened up to here as an extended prologue. THIS is when things really get started.
Introduction to my favorite character!!
Spike the best character on this show
The show would not be the same without Spike in it, there are lots of great characters though.
Spike and Dru are finally here!!! I'm so excited for you to see where it all goes.
*Fun fact:* instead of being English, Spike and Drusilla were almost going to be from the Southern US.
I could definitely tell with the actress playing Dru. Her accent is appalling!
Oof. That would have been even more cliche, especially with Interview around the same time (and the N'Orleans connexion).
oh no True Blood before True Blood lol I hear they are making a remake
@@ameliacraiig4193 No it's not. She's doing an accent that no longer exists.
@@Shadowman4710 I'm well aware of the era her accent is meant to be from. Using the weak excuse of 18th Century speech for wrong pronunciations & weird cadences, is new. Lol. I'm a fan of period dramas & *their* dialect coaches are usually spot on. Usually the actors I watch are geographically closer, so maybe that's why they're better. James Marsters seems to be one of only a very few anomalies, who manages it well.
One of the most iconic scenes in the whole show when Spike ( one of the greatest characters in The Buffyverse ) rolls into town and drives right over the Sunnydale sign. School Hard is one of the best episodes of S2. James Marsters was so impressive in the role, he became an instant fan favourite. Some great writing in this episode, when Xander goes to get Buffy's bag and pulls out a yoyo, tampon and then stake, this shows Buffy from child, to teenager, to adolescent showing how she is growing up. Great too when Joyce clobbers Spike on the head with the axe. All in all a great episode for early S2 with Angel/Spike/Drusilla who have a shared history through the centuries to add to the arc of the Season.
I was waiting for this episode. Practically speaking they couldn’t keep the annoying one. He’s a kid he’s going to grow up which doesn’t work with an immortal vampire.
Now the show REALLY kicks in to high gear - Spike is a wonderful staple to the canon of characters, alongside Dru. Now it gets FUN! Cannot wait for y'all to keep watching this season
Its Spike! oh so much fun, and did anyone see that the line cut on spikes cheek by drew matched Buffys' painted cheek? *smiles in spoiler free* last thought ~ school hard = die hard? "lets go to the party , we'll have a few laughs...."
Drew = Druicilla , I am bad at spelling sorry.
Spike and Dru have one of the BEST character introductions imo. Straight away you know that these two are unlike any vampires we've met so far. Spike swaggers in mocking the rituals and Dru is ten times creepier than the Master wihout even trying. It's a real game changer moment.
I love Drusilla so much. I kinda wanted to be her as a teen. And yes, Spike is iconic!
I love that male vampire she faked out with an axe..they keep killing him as a stunt vampire through the whole series..
I’m glad y’all got Spike’s “Uncle Tom” reference. I was surprised how few Buffy reactors understood it.
They have more brown people than most channels.
I never got it but I'm not from the US
@@joeypotter6051 that is a 100% valid excuse.
I've just binged all your Buffy reactions. They're some of my favourite reactions since Avatar! It's such a funny, witty, clever show. I'm glad you're all enjoying it. I'm so excited you've met Spike now. He's such a great character.
Spike and druscilla are great. In one episode theyre in my top five
I wait for reaction viewers to get to certain moments in the series. This episode is one of said moments.
I love that they laughed at the Uncle Tom reference. That goes over most people's head's. A lot of people miss the Yoda reference and pay to much attention to the word Sire that they don't understand what Spike means. I like that they caught it.
Spike killing The Anointed (Annoying) One doesn't make either The Master or The Anointed (Annoying) One's stories anti-climactic. The Master tried and failed to kill Buffy all throughout S1, and according to prophecy, The Anointed (Annoying) One lead Buffy to The Master for their final fight. That was his purpose in-universe and in the writing. After The Master died, The Anointed (Annoying) One tried to resurrect The Master and failed. But in order to continue a storyline with The Anointed (Annoying) One, the actor would have had to quit aging because at the time there was no de-aging technology. That is still fairly new. Their stories weren't anti-climactic, just over.
It's clear Xander didn't have a clue he was bait or what Angel's plan was, so I don't think he can say he was bait so much as Angel made him bait against his will. I assume it's for the snarky comments and shoving a cross in his face.
Honestly, Drusilla making your skin crawl is part of her charm as a character. She's the kind of creepy that you want from a vampire!
The moment that Buffy became “the show”
Buffy's always been *the show.*
You're right, she's totally Bruce Willis....the episode is named School Hard after Die Hard
Thursday's are my favorite. After Lucifer is over just do two Buffy reactions a week. Fun fact Spikes actor played Brainiac on Smallville.
Agreed, it's time to step up the episodes. I can't wait two months for Surprise/Innocence!
You can really feel the show step up a gear with the introduction of Spike and Dru
THE EPISODE WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR
The actor who played the Anointed One was still aging, unlike a vampire. One of the big reasons he was written out.
Fun bit of trivia for BIOSHOCK fans: andrew ryan is voiced by principal Snyder, and the little sisters in the first game are voiced by Drusilla.
Thanks. Wasn't aware of the second one.
OK. That ups the creep factor for me. (Ironically, Juliet is one of the nicest, non-scary people ever)
You may not realise it now but this already awesome show just got exponentially better!
Spike and Dru!! Loved them!! Esp Spike 💗
My man is here ❤
Spike said Angel was his Sire so yes, Angel made him a vampire
a Head Statue is called A Bust
Actually, Dru is his sire. Darla sired Angel. Angel sired Dru. Dru sired Spike. Angel is, like, his grandpa.
@@mrspidey80 And the Master sired Darla. There is going to be another link there but it's too spoilery.
Yeah, I think when they wrote that line they were planning on having Angel having been Spike's direct sire, but latter retconned to make him Spike's grandsire through Drusilla.
"Or does it make your foreskin crawl?" 🤣🤣🤣
I found this especially hilarious after Rana last ep talking about how vaginas can take a beating.
Time for a little less ritual and a little more fun!
Yea The Master was big on rituals.
Mark 3:22. "Druscilla", is played by actress, Juliet Rose Landau, whose parents are famous for acting together in both, "Mission: Impossible" & "Space: 1999". 😎👍✌️
Well, Chris wasn't wrong. I'm not gonna specify in which of the things he said is right, but he is. The funny thing with Buffy is that almost anything can happen in this show.
Spike & Dru are great! ♥
The Annoying One - such an apt nickname
3:16 “What’s happening?”
Greatness.
One of my favourite episode and one I can quote every line from. Spike does just like killing slayers, you right.
This was the first time in the show that Buffy actually lost a straight up fight, too.
So excited that you are all watching Buffy! It's truly one of the best shows of all time! There are so many layers to this show, you are about to get to the really good stuff!
The best character arrives
Anya is in this episode?
@@DarkElfPaladin nah Dawn is though
@@AndeePandee you got me there.
five by five
Buffy has so many good characters. Spike is top tier. James Marsters is awesome.
NOW the show really starts, tutorial part of over.
I do often wonder what Sheila’s up to these days…….especially now that she doesn’t have to not do homework anymore (don’t worry, I fully got that Sheila was vamped in this episode over 25 years ago, however Buffy let her go and given the antics she got up to as a human being, my guess is that she’s still crawling the night somewhere).
one of the greatest characters of tv history, period
Yay! Spike has entered the scene! My favorite by far
Lol I love Spike! He made the show for me. I literally watch the show for him and Buffy.
spike is most peoples favourite thats all il say
Best character Spike
“Buffy” is THE show of my youth: I was the same age as the main characters as it aired. Still 💜 it. Finding y’all watching it might even get me to subscribe. 😝 Strap in: you’re only getting started. Never a dull moment on the Hellmouth. And no spoilers, but Spike is in my all-time Top 10 TV characters. Enjoy!
Spike definitely adds a shot of great energy to the show. Hope you all enjoy! 😄
Noooo we don't have a full couch for the intro to some of the best💔
Spike & Dru!
The series just leveled up! 😁
Seriously, such great characters. 🙂
That ‘it’s the 90’s’ song cracks me up everytime I hear it. You guys should do a 90’s music video to it.
SPIKE!!!
They had to get rid of The Anointed One because the kid had a growth spurt between the 1st and 2nd seasons. Since vampires don’t age or grow, they only filmed him sitting down or from a high angle.
Iconic episode introducing iconic characters. This show is great and than comes Spike and Drew and it becomes henceforth amazing!!!
YES I've been waiting since you guys started watching for this episode. I love Spike and Dru!
I love Spike!
Mark 24:56. Oh yeah! The next book for your coffee table should be, 🥁, "Buffy's High School Yearbook"! Except for some obvious exceptions for the cover, it looks like an actual yearbook, with the typical autographs from classmates and faculty! FYI though, actress Mercedes McNab, doesn't like the photographs chosen to represent her character, so she won't sign them. But she does autograph her issue of, "Playboy Magazine", if you have a copy, because she did get to approve those used in it. 😎👍
“I wanna see Giles fight.” Ohhh just wait buddy
In the series 'Space 1999' the two main characters are played by Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, they are the parents of Juliet Landau (Drusilla) and she looks really like her mother (except her hair colour).
5:35 Spike needs to identify the Slayer and saying someone's getting bitten is sure way to do it.
11::55 Go, Willow!
The Anointed One was originally going to be the big bad for at least the first part of season 2, but the boy was growing, which he wouldn't do as an undead (that's why you mostly see him sitting down).
Yea...Spike and Dru. Let the fun begin.
5:15 🎶Tryin' to catch your eye from the side of the ballroom
Everybody's dancin' and the band's top volume🎶
Spike makes a LOT of people feel helpless, if you know what I mean!
Drusilla is awesome. Also, finally the Annoying One is gone. Guess who’s going to be the new Big Bad?
This is what I'm talking about. "In the nineties, gettin' down" indeed!
To paraphrase Elzar from Futurama, this is where the show… takes it up a notch. Spike and Drusilla are some of the shows best characters, especially this season. Also I dig Rana low-key Buffy cosplay, I’m happy she’s really getting into the show.
School hard, beer bad.
“Maybe he turned him” I guess it didn’t really translate well but yes Angel turned Spike into a vampire. That’s what sire means in this context so when Spike said “you were my sire”he was saying “you were the one who turned me into a vampire”
Dru turned Spike actually!
@@lernernernerdicapricorn6914 huh now that you mention it you’re right. iirc Angel tortured Dru until she went insane then turned her, then she turned Spike later on. Weird that Spike would call Angel his sire though, I guess at this point in the show it hadn’t been solidified to mean the vampire who turns someone into a vampire yet. It would be like screaming you were my father at someone you knew was your grandfather lol it doesn’t really make sense
@@briangak8815 I'm guessing that this early in the series, it really hasn't been worked out on who sired who or that Darla was even going to be included in the sireing.
@@briangak8815 They definitely retconned the shit out of it at one point imo. Dru turns Spike and Spike refers to Angel as his "Grandsire" (lol, because Angel turned Dru) at some point later in the series instead of just Sire.
@@briangak8815 I read a comment that suggested Angel is still his sire because they're still part of the same sire line technically! And Angel mentored him so he may still see him as more of a sire/maker than Dru
You guys make me SO NERVOUS with those wooden stakes...Someone's going to lose an eye...LOL.
SPPPIKKKKEEEEE AND DRUUU my favs
Oh boy they've entered into a phase of the show called "buffy the vampire slayer" starring spike
So in order to reflect the overall theme of season 2 (which is "relationships") the big bads for the season are a couple, the vampire "Sid & Nancy" aka Spike & Drusilla. This is where the iconic shit really begins, enjoy :D
Foreshadowing
Angel: “Once he starts something he doesn't stop, until everything in his path is dead.”
Except he's also smart enough to run away when the plan falls apart, as he did here - "live" to fight another day"...
You probably already know that she is Martin Landau’s daughter, he was a main character on Space:1999..which would be an awesome series for you to react to!
At least this season, Quark is a pretty good principle.
Quark 😂 The only thing I can see when I look at him as well
I'm have the same reaction as Rana. I know many fans love Drusilla, but when I first saw this show, she scared the @#% out of me...OK, she still does! 😱
YES, FINALLY! FUCKING LOVE SPIKE! but oh no, it's a shame suraj and spidey couldn't be there for it!
"Not making it past this episode"...HAHAHAHAHA
Bear in mind that this was a generation ago, so what is now a Grandpa Car would have been a Daddy Car.
Enter Spike and Drusilla! 💞
this is where the fun begins
intro to the sexiest vampire
welcome to the wonderful world of spike
