Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty were supposed to have a match at WrestleMania 8, but Jannetty punched a cop and was put on 6 months of house arrest. He disappeared after RR 93 because Shawn told Vince that Marty was drunk during the match. Mr. Perfect eventually convinced Vince that wasn't true and Marty was brought back and given the title to punish Shawn (apparently a 3 week punishment was good enough).
I think it was just the time WWF was in at WM9. WM is in the 1st part of the year and 93 was the changing of the guard year. It went from Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Piper, Bossman, Jake, ect. to Bret, HBK, Yoko, Undertaker, Diesel, etc. By the end of 93 all of the old guard was gone. So i can see why it was hard to put together a WM that year. they had to have big name stars there to sell WM even though the company was going in another direction.
To me 1992-96 WWF was trying out new things out of the box (i.e. title switches at live events, the whole drop in quality workers from the '92 Rumble to the 1995 IYH PPVs, etc)
but 1992 was a end of a era of the 80's rosters and that year went to a different direction if they had not that steroids and sex scandals, back then, if Hogan could have stick around after WM 8 he could have face Ric Flair at Summerslam 1992, and Summerslam 1993 was undoubatly passing the torch and a different direction was going to begin as the new generation era, Piper was absent in 1993 they could have least build a feud for him, Mr. Perfect could been World Champion in 1993, and wrestle until 1996 as he was going to leave, 1995 was the worst year ever in the company, because of a different direction rules didn't booked the right way, wrong storylines, and Diesel for a year as a champion he didn't defended against some serious opponents except for Bret and Shawn, and Diesel as champion was a huge mistake by Vince, Backlund could defended the title in his 2nd Wrestlemania against Bret Hart, 1993 should Warrior stick around, who knows the different direction is gonna be strong by a talented rosters that they should have being pushed or have a run with the title
***** but what if Perfect did't have those back issues and continue at the end of the year 1991, then Flair never might be WWE champion in his career, 1993 he was limited for a comeback, but i cannot understand why he left before the Surivor Series 1993, i really doubt it about Perfect vs Bret at WM 11 for the title it doesn't make any sense, it was good to watch, but fans were tired of their matches, things were very different back then
***** of course, Mr Perfect's title run was Always defended against Bret Hart, if Perfect was champion he could have defended against Shawn Michaels, Owen Hart, Razor Ramon Lex Luger, it has need good for Mr. Perfect, and draw as the face of the company i really doubt it
***** maybe, but it has to be a good opponent for him, imagine if Mr. Perfect was The Face of the company, maybe he might get a chance of a torch passing moment
Razor and Yoko had to have had the quickest, biggest pushes in WWE history. Hall's FIRST PPV match is the main event tagging with Ric f'n Flair?! He'd been there a month and two months later he's fighting Bret for the title at RR. Fucking insane. Yoko's first PPV he eliminates Randy Savage to win the Rumble...2 months later he beats Bret for the title but then loses to the biggest name in the sport and 2-3 months after that he's beating Hogan for the fucking title! I didn't think anything of it as a kid but looking back, it's absolutely insane.
Dang, I always wondered what would've happened in 1993 if Warrior and Bulldog were still around. Flair leaving seemed inevitable and Lex Luger was pretty much his replacement. I think it would've been Warrior vs. Razor Ramon and Bulldog vs. Bam Bam Bigelow.
IIRC Prichard stated they didn't have real plans for Flair at Wrestlemania IX. He probably would've been in a throwaway match on the card like Backlund.
At the steroid trial Vince was in. Neck brace. Was that because of Nailz's Assault on vince? I forgot all about that guy. Solomonster your memory and pod is amazing. Thanks... KB
I have a wrestling podcast called "The PriMalLow Wrestling Show." I love to interact on topics like this. My thought regarding WrestleMania IX is Razor and Mr. Perfect should've had a more important match at Caesar's. If you look at Razor's impact (Survivor Series -co-main event/Royal Rumble - WWE title match), and Perfect's impact (Survivor Series - co-main event/ Royal Rumble - big pop: eliminated flair) on those two PPV's they should've had a bigger role. I kinda understand Mr. Perfect vs. Luger because of Bobby Heenan however I do not understand Razor's match with Backlund. He should've face somebody else.
I want to know if anybody remembers this I remember when I was a kid I think it was wrestling challenge All American wrestling or superstars of wrestling back in the day , Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty had their angle at the barbershop where Marty got thrown through the glass, then a week later I see Marty Jannetty in a match with a jobber and after the match looking in the camera saying Shawn Michaels I'm going to kick your butt when I see you then all of a sudden he's gone and doesn't show up for a year! does anybody other than me remember that match with the job or right after the barber shop incident?? not too many people do I remember it because I watch wrestling religiously and I completely remember that and it dawned on me why he left and came back a year later after that.
I don't think you could have re-created the magic of Bret-Bulldog in a rematch. That wasn't just about the match, but the atmosphere itself being in England and all. Plus I'm not sure if Bret could pull out another match of that level with Bulldog again. That was lightning in a bottle.
+Anthony Anderson I love that match actually in many ways I like it even more , it is the first wwf match I recall with so much blood and realism and hatred this time.
That was right around the time that Vince was fighting the steroid charges, plus the charges of sexual assault being levelled at guys like Patterson and others. With his professional and personal life in disarray, it's no wonder the product at the time was as well.
Now that you mentioned that there was footage of LOD loosing the Title's. It was quick only about few minute's was shown. It was the very end of the match. I forget who they lost to it's been a few year's since I seen it.
If wwe could have convinced Flair to stay until Wrestlemania IX, they could have kept the title on him throughout the end of 1992 and had Bret win the Royal Rumble. It would have made a better main event, and would have given a bigger build for Bret, instead of his house show win where his reign consisted of beating jobbers and midcarders (papa shango, skinner, irs etc)
Justin Martin mmm. Just had to look that up. Never heard that before. It didn't stop him wrestling though? He continued on tv throughout the remainder of 92 including the survivor series
+MattdaJack1 Warrior potatoed flair in a match in Phoenix where Flair's eardrum was damaged and it caused severe dizziness. About a week later they had him drop the belt to Bret in Saskatoon. After that match, a bunch of Warrior vs Flair house shows were cancelled and DiBiase and Kamala replaced Flair while he was out. Flair then returned to action at Survivor Series.
I always forget that The Steiner's were there too I would've built The Tag Division around them. Giant Gonzales I guess they though it's a big man perfect Undertaker opponent but in WCW he was just there to run off heels & to scare them off they never could make him a maineventer. Since they had Bam Bam why not have him go after The Undertaker.
I think the WWF should of used Hogan better by putting him against Undertaker and doing the Bret/Yoko match in the main event. They should of done Perfect vs. Flair or Flair vs Warrior at WrestleMania IX.
Did they actually say Yoko was japanese? Yokozuna means champion doesn't it? And there have been non-Japanese sumo champions. They billed him from Japan but there are fighters who train or live in Japan that they bill from there.
Neh, Hogan stealing the limelight for no real reason ruined it most and one man - even if it is Ric Flair - is not going to make up for the rest of the undercard.
No one gave a fuck about flair! That's why Vince had him job and leave in an episode of raw the month before. Match could of easily of happened at Mania, but Vince and most fans didn't care about flair. WM 9 was nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Hart vs Yoko was a decent match, much better than Cena vs Miz at WM 27. WM 12 also wasn't that good of a show, only had 6 matches (if you wanna call the Hollywood backlot brawl a match) and none but the main event and maybe taker vs diesel were memorable. Of course everyone tries to say otherwise, only cause Hart vs Michaels was the main event in the first ever iron man match.
Bam Bam was suppose to wrestle Kamala that Wrestlemania. But supposedly Bam Bam or Kamala no showed according to the Coliseum Video footage. It showed Kamala lost somewhere (worked).
They should have just had macho win the rumble and fight Bret at Mania and put him over proper. And had Undertaker and Yoko build to a match or if Hogan had to be there have him fight either Yoko then lose and build lex pass he torch, fight Gonzalez and have him win if you thought he was gonna stay, or vs Taker and really put undertaker over or maybe never have a streak. But macho man v Bret hart was what we all wanted and deserved. Also I loved that era the most as well.
I heard the first time Marty was fired because of a run in with the cops. Bulldog/Warrior & Warlord were all let go because of the steroids. LOD didn't want the title lost record due to their reputation as badass's
No warrior vs Bret but warrior got fired. Why would Bret face Randy when he already faced him in the late 80s tag team and one on one singles. Savage beat him once then hart beat him too.
Maybe Flair would've took on Bob Backlund instead of Razor Ramon & Ramon aka Hall would've fought Lex Luger & Mr Perfect would've wrestled Shawn Michaels I would've had Henning win The IC title & drop back to Michales whenever Diesel came in. Yokozuna was ok but it seemed they wanted heavyset sadist like WCW had with Big Van Vader. In the meantime though Flair going back was good for him as he won The World title for The 10th time & also faced Vader at Starrcade 93. WCW may have not been the best company in 1993 but I guess it was better than WWF in 1993. 1995 was pretty bad like it is today you had cartooney characters I know 80's WWF did too but awful crap like Mantar Pirates or a Garbage Man School Teachers I don't like Shane Douglas that much but even that was awful. Diesel I didn't mind as Champion it's just other than Shawn Michaels & Bret Hart he had no opponents really & by the time they turned Bulldog heel there was no interest in his title reign.
Hulk Hogan winning the title so Unexpectedly was the only good thing at that WM. It was perfect timing as say it never happened and Bret lost the way he did and that's all folks! Shows over! Would have been the worst anticlimax WM in history. Nothing like that as far as I'm aware had happened before especially at WM, the new champ challenges someone to a title match there and then in the ring where he'd won the thing just seconds before! Macho man V Bret Hart if flair was still there then maybe they could have had the Hogan flair match expected the previous WM, or flair perfect, perfect could have turned face because he was flairs ass kisser along with Bobby Heenan ever since flair came to wwf. If warrior wasn't fired he could have Luger in the battle of the bodies. The undertaker V doink would have been surreal lol. That's a pity they all left when they did as it could have been a much better WM than it was!
Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty were supposed to have a match at WrestleMania 8, but Jannetty punched a cop and was put on 6 months of house arrest. Shawn Michaels is a liar at the time
Bigelow was supposed to wrestle Kamala at WM 9, but the match was cut due to time.

"SAMOA"
That was the day kayfabe died.
Shawn mentioned in his book how Jannetty could never stay clean. Who knows what could've been.

+Blind Terry Tucci Yoko's first PPV was actually a squash match against Virgil at Survivor Series.
I'm not too surprised I forgot about that.

Awful show. Savage vs Hart should have main even-ted.Instead, Savage just sat out and did commentary. Stupid.
Apparently Savage wanted to put over the new guard (namely Shawn Michaels), but Vince declined. I wonder why.
@@exeortegarubio probably because Vince McMahon's daughter, Stephanie snapped the Macho Man's Slim Jim. "OH, YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!"
Bulldog was meant to fued with doink after dropping the ic belt (bret hart book). So maybe bulldog v doink instead if crush.
Of
+Smudge D Yeah cause the people didn't want see Bulldog go after Bret, Shawn or even Hogan no they wanted to see him feud with a Satanic Clown.
At the steroid trial Vince was in. Neck brace. Was that because of Nailz's Assault on vince? I forgot all about that guy. Solomonster your memory and pod is amazing. Thanks... KB
No, it was just a neck surgery that he had
He did it for sympathy is what I recall lol.
I heard a drunk Bret and Anvil did the Hart Attack on a very drunk Vince in a bar only did it very stiff.
I have a wrestling podcast called "The PriMalLow Wrestling Show." I love to interact on topics like this. Come to think of it Bret did get another good match out of bulldog at in your house in December of '95, but it wasn't to the level of summerslam.
+Anthony Anderson I love that match actually in many ways I like it even more , it is the first wwf match I recall with so much blood and realism and hatred this time.
Anthony Anderson I loved their WWF Title match at InYourHouse Beware Of Dog very underrated match.
i believe bam bam was meant to have a match with kamala at WMIX but the match got bumped.
Correct
Wrestlemania IX was the best finish ever.
Where was The LOD at?, they had that awesome match at SummerSlam 92
the road warriors was fired after summerslam 92 cuz of hawk alcohol and drug problems
+Majin 12
Actually, Hawk left after SummerSlam in protest over having to carry that stupid Rocco puppet.
Wrestlemania IX was embarrasing. I have no idea why yokozuna was over. Bret should have gotton a longer run throughout 93
That was right around the time that Vince was fighting the steroid charges, plus the charges of sexual assault being levelled at guys like Patterson and others. With his professional and personal life in disarray, it's no wonder the product at the time was as well.

They never claimed Yoko was Japanese. They had said he was from elsewhere. His back story was he be came loyal to Japan while being a Sumo in Japan.
+Mathew Renner He was billed as "from the Polynesian Island", i.e. Samoa.
Bam Bam Bigelow was scheduled to wrestle Kamala at WrestleMania. The match was cut due to time constraints.
If wwe could have convinced Flair to stay until Wrestlemania IX, they could have kept the title on him throughout the end of 1992 and had Bret win the Royal Rumble. That was the original plan for Bret's first reign but Warrior injured flair and they had to hotshot the belt on Bret.
Justin Martin mmm. Just had to look that up. Never heard that before.
It didn't stop him wrestling though?
He continued on tv throughout the remainder of 92 including the survivor series

they mentioned the bulldog getting fired because he failed a drug test, that explains why bulldog dropped the belt to hbk
Neh, Hogan stealing the limelight for no real reason ruined it most and one man - even if it is Ric Flair - is not going to make up for the rest of the undercard.
I'd say Hogans presence in the main event ruined it.

It was suppose to be macho V's bret at rr 93 never happened

ric flair was always irrelevant in wwe history
