    Just replaced both ram sticks as well as a new faster SSD on mine and reinstalled OS from OS recovery tool using USB drive. Completely new machine now. WOW , why didn't I do this before?
    Still the best 13 in OLED touch laptop w gpu on the market , IMO.
    DELL/Alienware really needs to refresh this model. I'd love to see it with 1440p 120hz OLED touch with a 3060 or 3070.
    I highly suggest anyone buying a used one off EBAY to wipe the SSD and reinstall OS recovery from DELL's website specific to the 13r3. Create a recovery drive on usb go into bios and reset from there. Gets rid of all the possible junk the previous user left in there.
    I was getting BSOD left and right with the old mismatched ram. When I replaced both sticks and replaced SSD with a fresh alienware 13r3 OS install . WOW completely new beast now.

      I think this was the last amazing machine Alienware made.

      agreed , aside from the tri-screw design of the cpu clamp , it was close to perfect

    Hi there. Im questioning about removing the hardware like cpu and gpu. After viewing some teardown videos of the Alienware m13 r3 it looks like both are build in permanent. Kind of soldered or glued or i dont know.
    After reading the offical service manual on the Dell website ( topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/alienware-13-laptop_service-manual_en-us.pdf ) i found no information about removing/ replacing neither cpu or gpu.
    Can you give me some hint as someone, who had had the laptop in his own hands?

    Hi Bob! How many gigs of RAM did you get in this laptop? 2 sticks of 8 GB? Just curious.

    Do you still recommend getting it this 2019 if you happen to score it one less than 1k USD for the i7 model? :)

    What method do you use to apply kryonaut? Thin layer by using spatula or pea method?

    • @BobOfAllTrades
      @BobOfAllTrades  5 лет назад

      Pea or line depending on the shape of the die

    • @nishikant7859
      @nishikant7859 5 лет назад

      @@BobOfAllTrades So spreading with spatula isn't that good? Because i applied kryonaut almost 2 months ago and it's dried now.

    • @BobOfAllTrades
      @BobOfAllTrades  5 лет назад +1

      Don’t spread. Do you see how the application looked when I removed the heat sink in this video? That’s what it should look like. Nice thin layer over the die and the remaining part can squish out.

      @@BobOfAllTrades Thank you very much bob. I'll do a pea or line next time I repaste. Would you recommend it doing the same on the heatsinks as well since zephyrus M doesn't use any pads.

    Bob, Dell laptops always run hot. Dell does it on purpose. I have Dell XPS L502X (2011 model) and Alienware 14 (2012). Both of them ran freaking hot while gaming like 95-98 degree C, and also pretty hot at around 85 degree C while doing normal tasks like browsing the web, streaming movies, etc. Sold the Alienware last year but still have the XPS, the GPU of XPS is toast now after years of overheated gaming, crashes just after 2 mins of gaming. I have repasted the laptop last month with Kryonaut, temps are now in between 65-75 C for normal tasks. GPU is still toast though after repasting.
    I also have gaming laptops from Lenovo (Legion Y730) and Acer (Predator Helios 300), although these also run hot out of the box, after repasting, undervolting and tweaking settings, these are great laptops that run very cool compared to dell G5 and G7 series laptops. Which leads me to believe that Dell does this on purpose, to decrease the lifespan of their laptops.

      Dell is notorious for running higher wattage to their CPU than the chassis can handle.

      Did you change fan setting in BIOS , my 13R3 runs low to mid 40s browsing youtube and other various tasks.
