I envy the people I make listen to it the first time just seeing the raw reaction to the albums pure beauty for the first time just makes me so jealous
This album is about identity. The album name is blond(e). The feminine spelling of the word is 'Blonde' which reflects the tone of the first half of the album which is light, happily melodic and has imagery of summer. Then, in 'Nights' there is a beat switch which is exactly halfway in the album (at 30minutes in the hour long project). This beat switch signifies the volta in tone to the masculine side - 'Blond' The feel is much more brutal, delves into his character and is harsh in it's realities and ideas. This duality in the album of the both sides mirrors his sexuality, identity and mentality throughout. If it's not clear by my para, I love this album :-)

Simon, I love your point about Frank taking a risk with the beginning of the album, especially because Frank fans had been waiting 4 years for him to drop another studio album, and when he finally does the first time we hear Frank's voice its super modulated. Pretty clever in my opinion.
I do agree somewhat but I have to disagree with Simon's actual point about how the first song will probably be how people are introduced to Frank Ocean and how he would be conscious of this in his decision making. I don't think that would cross his mind at this point. And if you were to work with that in mind you would end up losing out on your artistic vision.
So true. When I first listened I thought frank was playing us since he took so long to drop blonde. It sort of made me want to skip ahead to get to the rest of the album. Now I listen more & more & nikes is definitely one of my favorites on this album.
"RIP Trayvon" in Nikes refers to Trayvon Martin, a black teenager who was gunned down in the street in 2012. He really does look a lot like Frank Ocean, too.
Ashanti Nyongo i think the main point is young black men look the same with a hoodie on, especially at night. the teenager shot could’ve been any black teenager, because the racists don’t see individuals, they only see the color of your skin.
To a lot of kids my age blond goes down as one of the greatest album of all time and will go in the ranks with albums like dark side of the moon and abbey road.
Although almost everyone knows this, the beat switch in Nights happens halfway through the album (at the 30th minute if im not mistaken) and it kinda shifts the album thematically

No this album is intentionally left ambiguous, however Frank has said he is bisexual and didn't come out until right before Channel Orange so I was just clarifying the youthful relationship songs wouldn't be about guys. Many of these could be about guys though yes.
I believe "Trynna find Tupac, don't let em find Tupac. He avaid the press" refers to how Frank has been silent not doing interviews or public appearances for years and comparing it to Tupac faking death to hide from the spotlight
Me Yes i agree. I think Frank is relating to tupac and the stress that can be put on you as a major star. He uses tupac as a symbol for that and sympathizes with what he went through up until the time he died. If someone theoretically could escape their stress after being in that position he would never want them to be pulled back in even if it meant having a legendary artist back. I dont think he actually thinks tupac is still alive. Its more likely a metaphor for wanting to be free of his own stress from having to hide from the press just to live a “normal” life.
La Flame it doesnt have any substance. Maybe on 3 songs. Its flashy with all the production but once you have listened to it enough you realize its really not that good. Blonde is one of my favorite albums of all time! You should also look into the history of the album. Frank actually released a visual album a day before Blonde which fulfilled his contract with his record label. He then released Blonde independently and I’m pretty sure he bought his masters back too.

How about you telling Jon to do the Album reaction as well then you both take some time and fully dive into the album and then upload a video on the RockReacts Channel where you have a discussion aboit the Album and share your theories with each other would be cool imo
It’s funny that you say he reminds you a lot of The Beach Boys in an interview before releasing the album he said he was listening to a lot of beach boys and the Beatles for inspiration
Loved your interpretation at 8:40 - I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times and I never once thought there was a reason behind him thrashing the studio
Two facts you need to know: 1. He declined submitting his album for the Grammys because he feels it is an outdated award system 2. He refuses to label himself to a sexual orientation but has come out about a love for a male. You can read his open letter with a google search.
This is perhaps my favorite album reaction video I’ve ever watched. Not just because Frank Ocean is one of my all time favorite artists but also because you can tell Simon really understands and respects the artistry that goes into an album like this. Grateful to have watched such a wholesome review!
You should listen to something by Brockhampton. Their album Saturation, or even sat 2 or 3, would be a great option. They take a lot of inspiration from Odd Future and the whole generation that I feel Frank Ocean influenced and is a part of, people like Frank, Tyler the Creator, and now Brockhampton are all some of my favorite artists ever.
This is a beautiful album and I'm happy I experienced it again with you. See if you can find the letter he wrote to himself. It's so beautiful and sums him up completely
This is actually an excellent reaction! I think you guys did a great job segweying into full album reactions, and your commentary is insightful. Great work
SO Glad you did this one Simon, one of my favorite albums of recent times. I love your input on everything you’ve checked out on this channel so far. Keep it up brother, godspeed! P.s., if u ever planning on doing more Lil Peep, check out his projects Hellboy, Live Forever, Crybaby, or LiL PEEP Part One
a lot of this album is about duality, so some of the things he says that may not make sense to you are because of this. blonde and blond are both official titles for this album, and the album is also divided into two perfect halves by the beat switch in nights. futura free is also divided perfectly in half, and there's a lot more complex themes that would take way too long to explain in a yt comment. listen to the podcast called dissect on spotify and everything in this album will make much more sense, and give you an even bigger appreciation than you already have. all i can say is this album is absolutely gold
im so glad you liked it man. this is my favorite album ive ever heard next to cilvia demo by isaiah rashad (that was my cheeky way of saying you should review cilvia demo)
On the 2Pac part on Futura Free, he says "they tryna find 2Pac, don't let em find 2Pac". To me he's saying that even though 2Pac passed, he's in a sense "free" from the pains of life and possibly fame. That's one of my lyrics on the album personally.
i took it as he was basing that line on the theory that 2Pac faked his death, and saying that people are still searching for him today, but we can't let them find him. the whole reason he faked his death was to escape from the press and the stress of being such a controversial figure, and we can't let them discover him, so he can live in peace. yours makes a lil more sense tho not gonna lie
You guys should react to nikes music videos its on apple music, trust me u wont regret it Edit: also keeping hearing the album the more you listen to it, the better it fucking gets, i didnt like that much at first but now its like my favorite album of all time, this album is fucking amazing!!
Frank would be so pleased you heard the Brian Wilson influence. He's name-dropped The Beach Boys and The Beatles as primary inspirations for the album, so kudos for catching that
The beauty of you guys slowly getting up to speed with all of this music is that I brings music that’s dropped off of my playlist back in to my life for me to fall in love all over again. Keep up the good work boys!
Simon, Close To You is a cover of Stevie Wonder covering a song by The Carpenters. Stevie performed it on a late night show in the 70's. It's a beautiful cover and Frank did the song just as much justice as Stevie. Frank also sample's some of Stevie's vocals (he was using a talk box for the effect) in the background of his version. You should watch Stevie's performance and then go back to Frank's. I can't speak for anyone else, but it gives me a whole new way to appreciate the song. Here's the link to Stevie's performance: ruclips.net/video/PnR19INlXV8/видео.html

It’s funny that you say he reminds you a lot of The Beach Boys in an interview before releasing the album he said he was listening to a lot of beach boys and the Beatles for inspiration
It’s a really layered album suited for multiple listens
Btw dude, just to add to Frank's genius, you know the beat change on Nights? Right after the weird guitar? It's exactly at the middle of the album!
When he said "Tyler slepped on my sofa" he's referring to Tyler, The Creator
Loved your interpretation at 8:40 - I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times and I never once thought there was a reason behind him thrashing the studio
Simon “it’s gotta be prog” Miller
Naysayer get him on Joe “I’m afraid of guys bigger than me” Rogan
Two facts you need to know:
1. He declined submitting his album for the Grammys because he feels it is an outdated award system
2. He refuses to label himself to a sexual orientation but has come out about a love for a male. You can read his open letter with a google search.
Always keep coming back to this. So satisfying to see the magic of Frank Ocean work before my eyes
You was spot on with the Solo / So Low thing.
This is a beautiful album and I'm happy I experienced it again with you. See if you can find the letter he wrote to himself. It's so beautiful and sums him up completely
ugh your picks have all been fire for this channel
This is actually an excellent reaction! I think you guys did a great job segweying into full album reactions, and your commentary is insightful. Great work
NOOOOOO IM NOT READY I WAS ABOUT TO SHOWER
update: really hope you didn't miss out Solo (Reprise)
Genuinely the best blonde reaction I’ve seen. You get it
SO Glad you did this one Simon, one of my favorite albums of recent times. I love your input on everything you’ve checked out on this channel so far. Keep it up brother, godspeed!
P.s., if u ever planning on doing more Lil Peep, check out his projects Hellboy, Live Forever, Crybaby, or LiL PEEP Part One
a lot of this album is about duality, so some of the things he says that may not make sense to you are because of this. blonde and blond are both official titles for this album, and the album is also divided into two perfect halves by the beat switch in nights. futura free is also divided perfectly in half, and there's a lot more complex themes that would take way too long to explain in a yt comment. listen to the podcast called dissect on spotify and everything in this album will make much more sense, and give you an even bigger appreciation than you already have. all i can say is this album is absolutely gold
luke shen you’ve been listening to dissect
finn huckelberry ye i couldve sworn i said to listen to dissect to learn more but ig i forgot lol
Also when his vocals are pitch up it’s supposed to symbolize something from his youth
Amazing review I love your style and Enjoyed you really listening and talking about my favorite album, keep them coming!!!
NOW DO ENDLESS BY FRANK PLEASE ITS THE OTHER VERSION OF THIS ALBUM
im so glad you liked it man. this is my favorite album ive ever heard next to cilvia demo by isaiah rashad
(that was my cheeky way of saying you should review cilvia demo)
You guys should react to nikes music videos its on apple music, trust me u wont regret it
Edit: also keeping hearing the album the more you listen to it, the better it fucking gets, i didnt like that much at first but now its like my favorite album of all time, this album is fucking amazing!!
He was saying R.I.P. to Pimp C, Treyvon Martin and A$AP Yams
You should show Jon Denton the song Seigfried, at 29:16 Frank Ocean interpolates one of Elliot Smith's song 'A Fond Farewell' lol
definitely do Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
Frank would be so pleased you heard the Brian Wilson influence. He's name-dropped The Beach Boys and The Beatles as primary inspirations for the album, so kudos for catching that
The beauty of you guys slowly getting up to speed with all of this music is that I brings music that’s dropped off of my playlist back in to my life for me to fall in love all over again. Keep up the good work boys!
PLEAAASE REACT to Solace by Earl Sweatshirt its a very great personal ep
You a real one. It's about damn time. Excited for more Frank Ocean videos on Rock Reacts too since I assume you have a couple in the vault right now
You need to react to Flower Boy by Tyler, The Creator!!
Here's the link to Stevie's performance:

You should react to ENDLESS - FRANK OCEAN, it’s a video-album, he released it a day before BLONDE and can only find it on Apple Music. You’ll love it bro! Loved this video
Great reaction! loved watching you discover this masterpiece
You are freshly intuitive with music!
Ya Frank Ocean is mainstream but so lowkey somehow and his music absolutely deserves more credit.
This review was so good. You said a lot of really good things! Keep it up:)
My favorite album of all time
Glad u decided to give it a listen 👂
Loved this, Simon! So glad you made this for one of my favorite albums. I’d love to see a similar album review for 808s And Heartbreak, I really think you’d love it. All the best
Go listen to the Dissect podcast on spotify ! you'll get a really in depth analysis, which will give you a whole other appreciation for the album.
love this video... you're very passionate, articulate, and sensitive to the work in a refreshing way
