If you dont play drums, you could never understand what he was doing and how skilled he really is. It sounded & looked totally cool, but the rudiments he was doing and his hand speed is just insane, This kid is gonna be a legend in time. Drummers in the future will be studying his style and learning to him like I studied John Bonham back in the 70's & 80's. Dylan, you're a bad ass bro
He is one of the best I have ever witnessed anywhere. He is doing things that the greats didn't even do. It's a little mind numbing. Like the one handed rolls where it still sounds like 2 arms. For a New Zealand or Aussie, he has a New Orleans flare.

you always can tell the difference between a person who plays drums and a "drummer". A drummer never puts other drummers down, is encouraging and appreciates others talents and learns what he can - THATS A TRUE DRUMMER, its not just about ability - its about your attitude :)

After seeing this guy's madass drumming skills from several performances i just subbed to your channel. But pls change the titles and keep the titles simple .Don't mention " he is the best in the world" or " better than xyz drummers".....it kinda ruins his reputation and prevents people from liking him more. Dylan is unique and superb in his own way.

You are so right, Cobus is decent but nothing more, hell i heard better drummers in my country on little stage without miced up than the whole setup Cobus has. Nothing against Cobus, but the dude is decent that's it.
I watched the video as you requested. I didn't think it was that great in my opinion. Like I didn't enjoy it as much as other drummers I mean. I'm nowhere near that skill level so I'm not saying it sucked or anything. Cobus is a much more refined player. His form is better, his attack is better, and his control is better. Dylan is still badass and amazing to watch, but both drummers are very different. So since this is a comparing apples to oranges type debate, I say it is impossible to "judge." I like Cobus, he is more my style and what I like to hear in drumming. I can see why a lot of people like Dylan though too. I am actually scratching my head as to why this comparison ever got started in the first place.

Dylan at 15 or 16 was better than Cobus.
His stuffs original off the bat in the streets of Wellington. No covers. Thats why i like him. Theres Cobus, 50 cameras and probably 20 people behind him making sure he sounds perfect.

Search and watch this : "Music Malaysia - Dylan Elise Live In Guitar Empire." It's Dylan playing with a jazz tune.
Cobus cover songs (mostly metal) with some variations. Dylan really flow with the rhythm. And most people agree that jazz drumming (or any jazz instrument) is harder to play than metal.
Plus, DRUM BATTLE (as the title say) is all about solo, and thankfully we agree that Dylan is better at it.

Buzz rolling the shit out of that drum until he begins to spin his sticks around, then shit gets real.
Dylan has chops and excels in the Latin rhythms and has some cred in the marching feel. But, overall I've got to hand it to Tony Royster from a solo standpoint. Cobus has him on his site ripping it for a couple of minutes. Check him out. When Royster throws down his 32nd note fills in a funk groove it's mind blowing!!!
AC thanks for your input. Players with the hot- chops know they can't begin to sub divide a rhythm unless they establish a tempo, quarter note pulse and some kind of turnaround after 4,8,or 16 bars. Thomas Lang is another phenom, but, I still think pound for pound Jazz great Buddy Rich is the freak of nature and monster of the drum World. Don't know if the youngsters of today even know about him. His hand and foot interplay on solos is stunning and his playing on some of those Big Band charts is truly astonishing!! Drummers Rule!!
in all honesty I don't see any girls to dancing to either of them and I LOVE Tony Royster Jr
tony royster is in a whole other class he would take most drummers in the world out. dylan is more in the above average range. and cobus is in the bottom of the barrel imo

Hmm.. Yes, I suppose he is very talented, but a lot of it is rolls and fast playing, which as a drummer in a Jazz Band, even I can do. Rip apart Cobus? I doubt that. They are both extremely talented drummers, but not only does Cobus not seem like the kind of person to do a battle, I'm sure that if he spent an extreme amount of time learning a solo (like this guy, I would assume), then I'm sure that it'd be quite the thing to see.

If you are judging this single video to all of Cobus' performances, you're doing it wrong. Doesn't matter though they are both 2 very different drummers. Besides this is a STREET performance, which he does every year during the Sevens for fun. You might want to check out what he does when he isn't just messing around.
Couldn't agree more!! A GOOD drummer knows his audience, and plays to the crowd. You wouldn't analyze a Monet in an elementary art class. Same thing. Good on you, Jaxx for knowing what it means to be a performer. This dude's got chops. You tube "Amazing Drum Solo" and watch him play at the Jazz festival. WAY more complex stuff.

Cobus is good, but he's not super great. This is guy is fantastic because he is pretty much playing what the definition of drumming is. Holds a beat while having groove. Look at all those people feeling his groove.

he and cobus play far to diffrently to be compared. this guy is more of a samba drummer, whereas cobus is a more westernised drummer. meaning rock and so on. both use diffrent kinds of technique's, so there's no comparing them

Look at some of the other Dylan Elise videos this guy has tremendous talent on the drums matched by none.
Cobus is a really fantastic RUclips drummer. Arguably the best RUclips drummer.
I think Dylan does this because he loves it. He obviously enjoys drumming and doesn't drum in public for money, simply for others enjoyment. Correct me if I'm wrong. And I don't think Dylan chose the title for this upload so aiming criticism at him is not cool. If u lose ur cool ur a chump! :)
