I’m currently using this reel on one of my catfish rods and it is working very well so far. Not a lot of big cats where I live but it handles 6-10lb fish just fine.
they were most likely made in china. the quality of the chinese ambasseaduers is a lot less than those made in sweden. the biggest problem is the quality of the finish. it scratches a lot easier than the swedish ones meaning corrosion could be a problem
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
I've had one for 3 years now and I love this thing, I've been rough on this real and it's still tough. I've had it paired with 7-10 foot rods and now I keep it on a 8 footer. Once I got it dialed in with 65lb braid with a 3 oz sinker and I have to be careful casting because i can cast all the line off, I also have the last king reel about the same size and I will say I can't tell the difference between the two reels!
Been using 3 of those reels over a year now with no issues. Using for large catfish in Georgia. Some of the screws will loosen up overs time but not a big issue. I really like them for the money. I have a couple abu and pcfun. How ever it’s spelled lol. But for the money I think they are great reels. Time will tell for longevity. Love your content keep up the great work. 😁
I have used the same reel you have, and well over 100 bass fishing trips later, it has performed flawlessly! I have my reel spooled with 17 pound fluorocarbon and use it with crank baits or worm fishing. Great reel for the money spent!
I've had one for three years now , it's actually a tuff little reel . Six foot rod , ten pound line , enough power to pull a a five pound bass out of the weeds . For the price and performance it's a great knock around reel to put fish on the table . 😁😁😁
Pronounced "Soo ga yee long" It was first introduced to me by CatfishBill66 when we fished The Monster Cat Quest back in 2019. I was actually impressed with how well they cast and how smooth they reeled. I was using the Shakespeare ATS reels at the time and was feeling out the KastKing 50 (which had impressed me) as well. I eventually settled for Abu Garcia's . Since then, I've used Piscifun reels that have impressed me as they are a cheaper alternative. Recently, I've had a chance to buy the Sougayilang reels and wondered if they held up to the quality of the Abu's and Piscifun's. This video has given me the info that I need to test them out. i have three soagaline reels been using for the past three years for cats and have a no problems with them i am running 50 braid on all three biggest i have been able to catch has been a twenty pound carp drag works great
I have started scanning all of my reels with a 3D scanner. Even my older reels. I am building a library of this stuff. Every part on every reel. 3D scanners are getting less all the time. I am putting a lot of effort in but it is worth it to me. Just a suggestion.
I have one of their rods and love it. It’s a medium light but I more like an ultra light but I got it for panfish so for my use it’s great. I haven’t tried their reels but , they don’t look bad. Thanks for the breakdown Dieter. Great video.

Using a cell phone camera or small digital camera to photograph each stage of disassembly makes it easy to know where everything goes when it comes to putting it back together.
Nice video Dieter. I've heard of those reels but didn't know anything about them. By their appearance they remind me alot of the Piscifun Chaos Reels which I'm currently testing out and comparing to my Abu's. Hopefully the Sougayilang reels will be another good option for the budget minded catfishing crowd who are just getting into baitcasting reels for the first time. Thanks for sharing!
It doesn't look to be made any worse than 90°of modern generally made in China fishing reels today, and probably is a perfectly good value. They just don't make fishing reels like they did in the US and Europe before the 1970's.
Id really like to start using casting reels. As a self taught fisher, they are very intimidating. You have brakes and all this crazy stuff. Idk what im doing
Usually if you’re not planning on swapping weights too much your local tackle shop will set your break for you and happily tell you about how to use it.
I have 2 of these reels in the 500 size . It has worked great so far and has caught me a lot of fish . I use them for catfish with a sturgeon being caught now and then . I got 2 of these reels for the price of 1 on a special deal . 2 size 500 reels for a little over $62 for both. I had to buy them and try it out . I have hade 2 of these reels for over a month now . I have caught over 200 fish on these reels . They are still working great and like them better than my kastking rover . Great reels ..
I've got a number of the sougyaling warrior 60 reels and they do work very well. I've got a couple I've had for more than 4 years and they're still working great, but I've also got one that's less than 2 months old that I have to take apart after every trip and oil it. I still like my lews xl60s a lot better, but these reels will suffice in a pinch if I can't find my lews reels.
I use the largest reel the 6000 and love them. They make a catfish/ salmon reel with power handle. I’m betting that the handle would work on these reels.
I’ve had one for about four years now. It works fairly well but two issues. I’ve had to use Loctite on a few parts and there’s a large gap between the spool and housing, this allows the line to get behind it when the birds nest hits.
Used Penn reels since I was a kid. Recently bought a Penn 9M, and just assumed all Penn reels are made in the USA. Wrong. Nothing on the box, but a TINY sticker on the underside of the reel mount said made in China. I've used it for about 6 months. Did take the level wind off to facilitate casting. We'll see if it lasts like the ones I used as a boy.
I used all reels of Sougayilang and it works nice, but my issues about this brand is the baitcaster, its pawl..... Its high maintenance, the pawl wears out quickly once it has no grease. overall, I've catched any fishes in this sougayilang reels... just proper maintenance and it will perform best.
Good info Mr Dieter, I'm not much on those type of thumb bars either, I've been a loyal Abu Garcia man for a lot of years, and lately I've been switching over to the Penn Squall 15, but I've been seriously thinking about trying the pisifun ( however it's spelled) 50 . I own 3 of the piscifun chaos 50's and have had them for 4 years now with absolutely no issues. They're buttery smooth and cast a mile. They have a strong smooth drag and handle large fish well. Definitely recommend them.
I'm not sure if I have a Squall 15, I have the one with a star drag, not lever drag. What a beast of a reel! I live about 40 miles from the coast, but I divide my time equally between fresh and salt. I have probably caught over 100 Bull Reds, and Bull Black Drum on that thing. Countless freshwater cats, up to slightly over 30 lbs. That said, last summer I caught a slightly over 5th wingspan Manta Ray. Catching a Manta Ray is kind of a catch of a life time. They mainly eat plankton and it's very rare they will take a bait. I felt like I was dragging in a submerged SUV for an hour! I can only say good things about that reel, with one exception. I can tear down my numerous Ambassadeur reels almost blindfolded. Fishing as much as I do in saltwater, I tear them down to their last part, even scrub them with a toothbrush and Dawn soap, let them dry, oil and grease, then put them back together. Ha, I'll never tear down another Penn Squall again. Ha, started on one at mid afternoon, think I gave up around 6 pm after trying to assemble it twice and it never worked right. Walked away from my work bench and started drinking Crown and Water on ice I was so stressed out. Finally got it to work on my third assembly the next day. From then on I take it to a local guy to clean it for $30. After what I went through, $30 is a bargain!!!
Catfish pro from Walmart comes with a CTS 600 look alike and it's value is only 24.95. fished one day this past Sunday and the clicker broke. Spoke with the owner of catfish pro and he said he'd fix it and I said I'll try to put the spring back myself. Great customer service. I knew not to expect much from a 80 combo. Probably going to buy one of their combos with the catfish pro tournament series CTS600 reel.
Good afternoon. What is the brake load on the 400 model? Will it be able to cope with wobblers 130-160 mm, as well as jerks and swimbaits up to 80 grams?
I have had one of these reels for over two years and it's still going strong, i don't expect it to last as long as the ABU Ambassador 5000 i bought in 1972 but then i paid more for the ABU than for the Chinese one 50 years later.
I bought an AB 5000c back in 1971, I still have it and it still works though I keep it in the cupboard and use a much more modern and much better baitcaster. That reel cost me more than a weeks' wages back then, this Chinese reel costs less than an hour's wage.

I have Calcutta's and they are pretty good but they are not in the same class as Shimano's Chronarch's which is the reel I would compare with my ABU 5000C which was the benchmark when I bought it. It's the same with spinning reels, I have some mid-high level small spinning reels which are light years ahead of the best spinning reels available 50 years ago and I have a Shimano Stella that my son bought me for my 60th birthday that is even way better than them. I don't buy the Chinese reels but have pulled a few apart and for the price they are great value for the fisho that only goes out occasionally.
I worked with a guy in the past that had been sent to China to oversee some type of work being done for the company he worked for. He told me - they will copy ANYTHING !!!! He saw all kinds of brand name US stuff ( that were copies ) with lots of different brand names on them. For the most part - some of it is ok - all depends on how much & how hard u use said item.
You get what you pay for, I call those questionable metals Chinesium which will end up in the Land Fill when Their disposable products fail and they always do! Nice looking reel though 👌
I forget the brand but I got one of these round baitcaster reels from Walmart, think I paid 80 bucks for it and it was horrible.... Thing constantly backlashed and the line guide kept getting stuck on one side or the other and it would never spool up properly.
I have fishing buddies that keep getting into trouble with Chinese copycat fishing gears, especially lower end reels. I hate their asking me for borrowing my spare gears while I am fighting a trophy fish. I personally want to use a well built and reliable reel that would not fail me when reel in a trophy fish. “Sougayilang” is not a brand name I could trust. I do not mean to insult anyone who use a product made in China, as a Chinese avid fisherman myself, but for fishing I seriously use good brand name products only.
By purchasing one of these reels, you are driving a stake into the heart of North American/Western manufacturing. Think of what your race to the bottom purchase actually means; the reel is cheap and all that entails, until all our reel manufactures are out of business. Maybe then you won't have a job to even afford crap from China. This is really ridiculous. Don't buy anything from the People's Republic because, if you do, you had better learn how to kow tow.
Can't speak to this brand, but I am a big Kast King fan. Been using their spinning reels for inshore salt water fishing (Sharkey III) for severeal years. They have caught many fish and have gone toe to toe with my Penns and Daiwa BGs. I like them so much, that I have just bought two in the 5000 class to try on my 7' king rods.
I bought one on a whim a year ago, it's been an absolute trooper. Throwing 50 lb braid on an 11 foot rod and haven't had any issues other than the brake is weak for heavier weights. If you use your thumb it casts quite nicely, and didn't strain at all on a 50 lb blue.
What do you consider heavier weights? My main catfish spot is a river and I mostly use two ounces, if the current is really bad I might go four. Does it handle four ounces well? Ahh...i guess I have to consider cut bait weight too, I doubt that would ever exceed 2 ounces. So, how would it handle maybe 6 ounces total? I would appreciate a response if you have time. Thank you.

I like the fact that they are using Herring Bone style gears on the main drive gear. Great for long life under heavy strain.

Does it have bearings or bushings in the spool tension caps? Bearings in the spool or level wind assy? What kind of drag washers and how many?

I doubt it….you may be able to add a power handle, but I’m not sure if the upgraded drag washers will work….

These reels are just as good as the China made Abu’s….which is to say, pretty darn good and serviceable. Definitely worth the money and then some.

No you just get less line on the reels. It wont hurt anything.

For smaller fish maybe ok but I tried it for European catfish and the break is shit, anything over 50 kg is not stoppable your thump will smoke😂

I have fishing buddies that keep getting into trouble with Chinese copycat fishing gears, especially lower end reels. I hate their asking me for borrowing my spare gears while I am fighting a trophy fish.
I personally want to use a well built and reliable reel that would not fail me when reel in a trophy fish. “Sougayilang” is not a brand name I could trust.
I do not mean to insult anyone who use a product made in China, as a Chinese avid fisherman myself, but for fishing I seriously use good brand name products only.
But they’re all made in China…everything is made in China…lol
By purchasing one of these reels, you are driving a stake into the heart of North American/Western manufacturing. Think of what your race to the bottom purchase actually means; the reel is cheap and all that entails, until all our reel manufactures are out of business. Maybe then you won't have a job to even afford crap from China. This is really ridiculous. Don't buy anything from the People's Republic because, if you do, you had better learn how to kow tow.
Give us a couple of American made round reel options……
Can't speak to this brand, but I am a big Kast King fan. Been using their spinning reels for inshore salt water fishing (Sharkey III) for severeal years. They have caught many fish and have gone toe to toe with my Penns and Daiwa BGs. I like them so much, that I have just bought two in the 5000 class to try on my 7' king rods.
I bought one on a whim a year ago, it's been an absolute trooper. Throwing 50 lb braid on an 11 foot rod and haven't had any issues other than the brake is weak for heavier weights. If you use your thumb it casts quite nicely, and didn't strain at all on a 50 lb blue.
What do you consider heavier weights? My main catfish spot is a river and I mostly use two ounces, if the current is really bad I might go four. Does it handle four ounces well? Ahh...i guess I have to consider cut bait weight too, I doubt that would ever exceed 2 ounces. So, how would it handle maybe 6 ounces total? I would appreciate a response if you have time. Thank you.
@@cryptofan6255 I throw 3 -4 oz weights and 1-2 oz baits very well with it. 4-5 oz total weight seems to be the sweet spot on the one I have
