Haiti Got WORSE: Full-scale Government Collapse

- It is no longer a prediction. The Hattian government has collapsed. The socioeconomic and political crisis in Haiti has been marked by rising energy prices due to the 2022 global energy crisis, as well as protests, and civil unrest against the government of Haiti, armed gang violence, an outbreak of cholera, shortages of fuel and clean drinking water, as well as widespread acute hunger. Instead of getting better it has only gotten worse

Also to the commenters who keep on asking about the image at 14:00 , here is what I did. Go to google and type caribbean port services haiti attack. You will see what I pulled from there. Many people are saying it’s a reversed image google has pulled wrong
Apologies but I'm afraid that image is of the Baltimore bridge collapse. If you look for the front stack of containers next to the collapsed bridge section on other images of the Baltimore incident you can see that they match. I suspect Google has been doing its usual bang-up job of pulling images from other areas of a webpage and then implying that they are part of the original news article.
Unfortunately it IS the Baltimore bridge, when searching images from news sites, Google can also pull images from suggested articles, this is the Baltimore ship from the reverse angle
Definitely from Baltimore. Google image search is not your friend
Stak... wow you are good. You've really been able to explain - clearly and concisely - a VERY messy situation. Part of the issue here goes back to the period after the Revolution, when the rest of the world basically sealed Haiti off. Because the French had been So insanely cruel to their slaves, the majority in Saint Domingue had been born in Africa. After being freed, they dissolved the plantations & refused to submit to government (Henri Christophe & Jean-Jacques Dessalines learned this the hard way). Port-au-Prince & a few cities were Europeanised, but the vast majority of the country followed the "Gwo Neg" (let's go with Big Man for the translation) system - strongmen. To this day, there are no political PARTIES, there are men who form a party, which disappears after their death/fall from power. ANYHOW... The political posters you showed are awesome - NEG BANNANN NAN for Moïse (The Banana Man - and yes, it means what you think it does); Tèt kale (Shaved Head) for Martelly... Another little thing: Petyonvil (Pétion-Ville) is where the ELITE live. Most embassies are... WERE there, the famous Montana & Oloffson hotels are there... It's the Upper East Side/Beverly Hills/Knightsbridge of Haiti - the most elite families have walled compounds that even have barracks for their private security personnel)... Sorry, getting side-tracked. FANTASTIC JOB STEVE! Please keep these coming, I'm not Haitian but have lived there, am fluent in Kreyol Ayisyen, still have a LOT of friends (and ex-inlaws who remain good friends) there - I have not seen ANYTHING better than your reports - in fact, I don't know of any I've seen that have come CLOSE. Bravo! And get better
I agree with the people who conclude that the picture is of the container ship that struck Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge. To me, the most telling factor is the tall turquoise structure about 3/4 of the way back. I did the "caribbean port services haiti attack" Google search and didn't see this image on the page. Nevertheless, this is a thorough and enlightening report on the terrible troubles in Haiti. I was in Port-au-Prince in 1983, and even then the poverty was stifling, but the people were friendly and helpful. (I wonder if the Barbancourt Rum Distillery is still in operation; they make some mighty fine rum!)

I honestly can't see any way an intervention at this stage would do anything long-term. It would be like Afghanistan, the moment the intervention force pulls out, things will slide back into their old ways. It would take an occupying force a whole generation just to make changes that can stick.
It's a harsh and cruel idea, but at the moment, the only practical thing the global community can do right now is contain this conflict and let these groups sort things out. They have to decide for themselves when to stop the violence. No other nation can do that for them.

Long story short: Haiti has gone to Hell in a hand basket, and now the hand basket is on fire.
🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹 As a Haitian, i can say is what i said to a friend of mine while defending the position that if war is declared in me in sny form, then those eho declare it, and anyone related to them, are fair game.
In the battle of convictions, inly the strong survive.
I'm constantly telling people that no one here has any sense of national duty, or camaraderie. The entire country, aside from the gangs, can essentially be summarized with the saying "Look out for number one".
The entire Haitian population is ready to tear itself apart. With most people believing that people who are better off than them are the cause of the problems in the country, and no solidarity between people's, it's as though our national motto of " L’union fait la force" Is empty air.
Itd unfortunate. But no one can fix this problem but us. And none of us will stand and fight for fear of our own meaningless petty little lives.
If half of us had the coursge to stand together, we could erase this problem. God knows we outnumber the gangsters by leagues. But unfortunately everyone here is jsut as busy hating others as they are cowerring and sniveling to save themselves.
I will say, waking up everyday for my entire sentient existence, and being hated by a group of people because my parents worked to make sure I was never left wanting, or for the color of my skin, does not instill a sense of unity within me. Hatred towards others because I've been told
" You're white. You don't bleed."
" White people don't die"
" Kill yourself bourgeois"
" kolangyet manmanw"
And countless other slurs and demeaning insults, makes it hard for me to feel pitty for ny own country and my own people. but yet I still hold to the belief that asside from a lack of unity, and camaraderie mirrored from the larger population, and a deep seeded hatred of those who are better off, there is no difference between any of us. We all bleed red here. Contrarily to what I've been yelled at, bone of us bleed Ichor.

There's nothing more to be done, the people no longer trust the government, and the 'government' can't decide on itself. Seems like Haiti is destined to collapse, all that one can do is hope that something will rise from the ashes... although there's also the chance that, nothing would rise at all.

It does not matter who is in power in Haiti. There is no economy in Haiti. There are way too many people on that small spot of land, and the land will not support them all. The strongest group seizes power, and uses what food, money and supplies that exist to feed their own people, and everybody else starves. International Intervention in Haiti. Compare that with the USA failed attempts in "nation building" in Iraq and Afghanistan. Military victories are easily accomplished. Nation building is very difficult. The USA succeeded militarily in Iraq and Afghanistan but failed in "nation building". The "nation building" failure falls not on the USA but on Iraq and Afghanistan. The "nation building" success in post WW2 Japan and Germany falls not on the USA but on Japan and Germany. The mindset, valueset, culture of the peoples of Japan and Germany were suitable for nation building. The intention of International Intervention in Haiti is nation building. Haiti is currently a failed state. The mindset, valueset, culture of the people of Haiti is not yet suitable for nation building. To paraphrase a song by the late Eddy Kendricks: "Haiti, you need a change of mind".
Countries are like people: there is only so much you can blame your shitty parents for ruining your life. If, when an adult, you don’t begin to put your act together, no amount of external help will help you and worse, you being to think that it will be always someone else who is coming to the rescue from the shit you do. The horrible difference is that while people eventually die, countries keep dragging along, bringing themselves down with whatever surroundings they have.
Another problem is the notion of sovereignty: The same people who pull their hairs off claiming that each nation have to be independent and do whatever they want inside their borders (with whatever delusional ideology they happen to embrace), as a sovereign principle, is the same people who pulls their hairs off demanding that other nations (whoever, they will always find who to blame) help and bear the responsibility of such nations repeated bad decisions (then yes, they agree on Humanism and Human Rights as the ruling principle among nations). Hence you have an eternal cycle of “enabling” failed states.
The pundits say that elections will remedy Haiti's problems. Nope. One will just replace 1 set of bad buys with another set of bad guys. Main problem is institutional corruption. Yes, the first step is to eliminate the current gangs but a full and honest understanding of how and why the gangs came about is needed. Basic rule of Law needs to be established. Really basic. Property Rights connected to proper individual identity. Hernando de Soto, a Peruvian economist, understood that property rights are needed for economic progress. The Clinton Administration had the correct idea to reform the legal system in Haiti but found the records of ownership of land and businesses were very poor and frauds of all kinds were common. Land reform is needed. Proper identification of individuals is needed (with accurate birth and death certificates). For a time, foreign administration of Customs, Post-Office, Ports, and other Government Institutions is needed. Also K-16 curriculum needs to reformed. Unfortunately > 90% of haitian intellectuals are socialists. To paraphrase the philosopher The Joker, Haiti needs an enema.
