  • This week, following the collapse of Germany's coalition government in November, French Prime Minister Michel Barnier resigned.
Barnier, a conservative, was appointed by Emmanuel Macron to be France’s new Prime Minister just three months ago. Barnier was forced to resign after a no-confidence vote in France's parliament. This was the first time a no-confidence vote forced a French Prime Minister to resign in more than 60 years. Barnier’s three-month tenure was the shortest tenure of any French Prime Minister in the history of the modern republic.
Meanwhile, Călin Georgescu emerged as the leading candidate in the first round of Romania's Presidential election. Georgescu is not affiliated with any Romanian political party and wants to end Romania's support for Ukraine's war effort.
All across Europe, 'mainstream' political parties are falling to defeat while the EU economy sinks ever deeper into debt and malaise.
    Can Europe be saved?
Norwegian Professor Glenn Diesen joins Dimitri Lascaris for a discussion about the future of the continent. Glenn is a Professor of political science at the University of Southeastern Norway. His research focuses on geoeconomics, Russian foreign policy and Eurasian integration.

      (imo)
      This is about continued domination.
USA understands China is "winning" (from THEIR perspective)
China doesn't see it that way, but HAS TO increase defence spending.
USA believes they must stop, or at least slow the "advance" of BRICS/ Belt & Road which they think will "kill" the USD and end their dominance.
So, we see them "Poking" China and anyone else doing business with them.
      The next Phase?
Africa is VERY friendly with China (Ref the recent Beijing Summit)....
Draw a line from the west of China to the Red Sea and you go through Afghanistan (which recently signed a Zero Tariff deal with China.... WAIT for USA to be "upset" by that!)
Then, you hit IRAN, on the way to Iraq, Saudi Arabia.... Across the water to Africa.... As mentioned above.
That would see BRICS "In control" of the region, including the Suez Canal (Egypt) and the southern Med coast to Gibraltar.
      .
Suddenly the US "Concern" over Iran makes sense (To Them)
So, IF the Ukraine issue is resolved, or at least calms down, we can expect more pressure on Iran from "Israel" (USA) and possible escalation with USA Openly entering the (engineered) conflict.
      .
      Next?
They go after South America to try and prevent the Chilean, Peruvian trade links connecting with China.

Thank you Dimitri and Glenn Diesen for an open and very qualityfied conversation, I think many people in Europe from the very beginning of the conflict in Ukraine could see and argued that hostility measures against Rusia was not a solution to the conflict, and we have since seen EU, Nato, and government leaders all over the West and northern part of Europe creating a hopeless narrative for supporting a War as the solution, we simply dont have any leaders in Europe at all that have the knowledge or the capacity to show intelligent diplomacy, it is no wonder we are losing influence etc, etc, it is so sad.

Still that series described it the best, how things really work in Washington and the USA. It is so hard to comprehend I will go back to knitting. I also understand why my grandmother always did that, I always thought as a kid, there is more to it granny. It is not just about those shawls you make for us. How is all this so difficult to understand and why is it a surprise?! If a country believes in the financial power of the USD then it's not a surprise!! With the US Treasury requesting more USD from the Fed, effectively money printing, and the US Treasury using these newly printed USD to buy us treasuries and countries in the EU backing their financial systems on US treasuries and the USD then all that is happening in the EU is not a surprise. Oh, and actually what happened in Crimea is that Crimeans wanted to be part of Russia as well as the citizens of the Donbass oblasts! These citizens saw the corruption for decades and did not want anything to do with the zellensky regime!

@@lesleyriseam1282 I never said the USD$ would remain dominant forever - it won't. But the notion that the US economy/currency is "on life support" is RIDICULOUS. If & when USA declines, it will happen AFTER europe collapses & AFTER BRICS reach parity... wake me up AFTER those things have happened - then we can have a rational discussion.

The Nordic countries have always been bxtching abt Southern EU countries debt. And they will continue. The Southern will ignore because they are more powerful and are souvereign. One word of advice to Nordics like Diessen, stick to your own country business.

    “ unprovoked!!!” - totally provoked.
“israel has the right to defend itself” - actually, no, it hasn’t, not against Palestinians.
so the first slogan that comes out and keeps being repeated is the opposite of the real situation.
    that’s something of a guide…

Ehm no. Property prices in Spain are way more expensive than US. Same for electricity gas and most commodities. I just bought a 250m2 villa with granite kitchens and bathrooms at Lake Norman for 400K..you cannot even get that type of property for less than 2 million in (Western) Europe. Im European so I know. Most Europeans would leave if given the chance. Always been like that.

Time to regroup Europe around Lotharingia, its heartland of talent and productivity, jewel of the Carolingian Empire.
The Carolingian agnatic line is still around.
The concept is to reunite populations as in Swiss Cantons, to preserve their culture, individuality, political autonomy, and self determination.
This structure will give a headstart in the global geopolitical configuration.
