Lyrics:
I always thought ...
always thought that there was something different, setting us apart
That I was led ...
I was led by men with sober minds and sympathetic hearts
I swore an oath ...
swore an oath but never knew just what it was to take a life
To play at God ...
play at God across such distances and from so great a height
But I am never sure who I am killing
How many innocents were in the building?
I drop death out of the...
No longer human beings, no longer people
Just targets on a screen, none of it’s real
I drop death out of the sky
Tell me why
One day they sent ...
one day they sent me to the chaplain when said I can’t go on
But all he said ...
all he said was just to shut my mouth and do the will of God
Tell me why
To make us safe so it would seem
But we shoot further than we dream
Can’t we see, we only justify
Someone’s resolve to rise against
And to avenge the innocent
And defend the ones that still survive
So, I’m still asking why - Видеоклипы
Dang. Thrice is ripping into the military and foreign policy hard on this album.
+Crummock iPhail I love it so much
Someone has to. The TV isn't going to do it. Has everyone read "1984"?
I've always gotten a very libertarian vibe from Dustin, and for sure he has read 1984. Everyone should.
+Chase Keaton www.fuse.tv/2016/04/dustin-kensrue-thrice-interview-new-album
Dustin is very libertarian and tends to write from varying perspectives even in the context of one song. I can sympathize with the sentiment of falling into false patriotism. I joined the Army a month after 9/11 and fell for the "official" narrative at face value like most of Americans. 12 years serving my country, 3 tours in combat for proxy wars and corporate companies to profit from death and war. Thrice was with me through those times and I grew toward a distrust for my "handlers" as such. This song resonates with me on so many levels!
saw it more of a sympathy for the military members than ripping them apart... but for sure ripping in to the policies
"But we shoot further than we dream" - intense lyrics there.
i wish i could one day express to thrice how much we all appreciate their growth. from album to album, this band has reinvented them selves while staying true to self, all the way through. i can not think of another band who has a catalog this diverse and consistently great. i grew up submerged in this era of rock (afi, thursday, underoath, chiodos, rise against, alexis on fire ect..) and i can honestly say, 15 years later, that thrice has out performed all of their peers. my love for them has only grown, while i find my self clinging to most other bands first few albums. and the saddest part is most people dont give anything after artist in the ambulance a chance. as great as the first two albums were, and they were AWESOME, this band has an unlimited array of PHENOMENAL music to offer. so glad i stuck with them. most under rated band around.
THANK YOU THRICE!!! I APPRECIATE YOU ABOVE ALMOST ALL... much respect
Thrice is back in full form! This is Vhiessu quality stuff here.

A must listen! !
This song is DEFINITELY about drowning the angry guests in Rollercoaster Tycoon...
Hahaha excellent
ahaha
Lol
+Mason Trueblood Probably one of the best pieces of feedback I've ever read. Spot on.
Dude....!!!! Lol
Definitely a song about drones. Between this and "Reapers" by Muse, I'm really accumulating a playlist of awesome songs about drones.
Ha!
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen! !
There's also Drones by Rise Against.
This song just blows away "Blood on the Sand." out of the water.
for real

The comments about "thrice days grace" or "I miss the old thrice" are crazy. They have evolved with every album and honestly this may be one of their best since vheissu. I've loved every album since Identity crisis and nothing they do will be wrong in my eyes.
Some people don't grow.
+Trent Keller agreed!
+MrBrolfe24 Totally agree with you. If it's the old Thrice they want, then they can go listen to that! It'll always be there, and it'll always be Thrice.
+Silvano Dragonetti that's what is so great about this band they will never do the same thing. If you love their old stuff go back and listen to them! Illusion of safety has to be my favorite album but I love them all!!
To be honest, I'd say that Vhiessu is their most complete and cohesive work of art, every track on the album flows into the next and all of the structure is so concrete and listenable on many levels. Alchemy Index was a bold step for them afterwards and from then on, they continually stripped back the production layers to try and form a more direct connection to the listener. The road they've travelled is esteemed and not many bands can say they've done what Thrice have continued to do with their music, but in terms of songwriting as an art-form, they nailed everything on Vheissu and it has remained that way since - I don't think any of their works could rival the marriage of emotion, raw power and musicianship that was showcased on Vheissu.
Anyone else been with Thrice since their first impressions album? I have literally grown from adolescence into adulthood listening to Thrice the whole way and they NEVER disappoint. This band has so much more substance than so much of the music out there. I remember writing on my binders in high school "Thrice 4 life". Plus somehow Thrice fans always seem to be super chill.
same here !
Same here the old Thrice message boards were the shit.

A must listen! !
I picked up one of their EPs out of the dirt after spending the day at the Warped Tour is SLC.
Listened to that all the way home!
Absolutely love this band.
Their talent, depth, variety, sound and passion are simply beautiful 😍
Whenever I'm having a down period in my life, I feel like thrice always shows up to save me. thanks for all you've done guys.
The "I drop death out of the sky / Tell me why" verses make it perfect for me, it's pure Thrice. Those 2 lines alone make it magical. This song man...
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!
It's really heart wrenching. I think of the quote by the guy who invented nuclear bombs, "Now I am become death". Chilling and you can hear the pain in the voice and the instruments.
"They're just targets on the screen" speaks power to the problem of the gameification of reality with regard to soldiers who operate drones from afar. Though the lyrics are more thoughtful, the theme of this album may even have a RATM-esque vibe! Very excited and good work, gentlemen.
Came back here to also see if anyone mentioned a certain video game's ability of the same name (as the song's, obviously). But I have to say that the point you're making in this comment is one I've tried to explain to a few people who kind of worship some of the flashy and violent modern video games (without forgetting to include the role of the movie industry in the equation). Well, after all, it's a matter of personal taste/quality and grasping the concept of consequence (desensitization, in this case -- and not only in this case) but offering a different perspective in a relaxed way is the best thing we can do to make one see. Right? :/
Then again, what can we expect when even this band says they were "led by men with sober minds and sympathetic hearts"? I just hope it wasn't meant to be literal, oh well. At least the world is slowly waking up now, I suppose.
p.s. grats on using (or coming up with) the word 'gameification' :p had to focus on it, apparently.

A must listen! !
The combination of rock and metal that only Thrice can provide.
Though at the power chords section I can feel a bit of Mastodon. Which is great !
yes MASTODON !
Yeah, I like it. I keep hearing elements of Tool which is crazy but awesome!
I actually feel it's more akin to Isis. But the sludge metal influence is totally there.
+Bryton Cherrier *pulls up wavering radiant playlist
i agree, the intro has a bit of Isis' Maritime inspiration
This band. I'm sitting sweating on my patio and still I get oosebumps listening to this. Getting a major Cloudkicker vibe from the first bridge section. I can't wait for the full album.
Ahhhhhh I was gonna wait to listen to more but who am I kidding I'm not strong enough.
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!
Hello Vheissu, we've been expecting you. Wow. That time signature and beautiful arrangement. This should have been the first single. My body is ready for the album.
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen! !
Another masterpiece by Thrice. To me this is the all-around greatest rock band on earth.
I'd hardly call it "rock" it's more like "eargasming" XD
Wow, love the message in the lyrics. I think about a drone pilot. Very deep.

Loving the theme of these songs, very relevant in the state of the world.
This is a powerful song! This is why I love thrice! And we should always want to know why or ask ourselves this question in life!
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!!!
Wow, this new album is really going to be one of their best
+LKAChannel I couldn't agree less. They will never record another TIATA, which is still their best work IMO.
Adia Shardae I never really was a huge fan of most mid-2000s post-hardcore (I like 90s and early 2000s post-hardcore better), Thrice's older material included (although I still like it, it's just not my favourite stuff out there) but these last two singles are amazing in my opinion. Especially because of the lyrics, I love socially and politically concious stuff.
LKAChannel Thrice's lyrics will never disappoint. I don't think that's even possible. Lyrically, these songs are powerful, and Death From Above and Black Honey are a little better than this, so maybe there is hope yet. TAITA is just so many memories. So many feels. Emotionally that album floors me forever. I spent a lot of time and money to track down a vinyl copy of it, and it's one of my most prized possessions.
TAITA was definitely a Sophomore breakout into the more commercially targeted world of post-hardcore. But if you look at their discography from an artists perspective, Vheissu is where they truly broke new ground as a unit - followed up by 'The Alchemy Index', they were clearly preoccupied with a pretence of creating art over music. Nothing after Vheissu or 'The Alchemy Index' really held the same impact to their writing in a structure, song-building or phrasing level.

A must listen!
Most excited I've been for an album in a while.
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html

That guitar intro reminded me of A Perfect Circle! Very nice!
Definitely
Those guitars sound so manly, I am convinced they have testosterone of their own.
HGH - Human Guitar Hormone
definitely using hormonebucker pickups on the guitars
Jackson Willingham Drop B or Drop A tuning, Tubed amp, drive and gain set to 25-40%, Fuzz pedal. that's how ya do it.
Agapē oh fuck off 🤣🤣🤣🤣
BARITONE
Okay okay, I'll buy the album jeez. One can only be bombarded with good music for a small amount of time before they crack. Pre-ordered... now please give me solace, give me peace!
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!
I can't comprehend how there's so many people in this world that have never heard of Thrice. It fucking blows my mind when you consider how long they've been around and that they're incapable of making an album that's anything shy of "exceptional". Anyway, fucking love this tune, and the entire album for that matter. Fucking brilliant as always from the 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Gettin some "call it in the air" vibes. This song is too cool
Definitely my favorite out of the 3 song released so far. Can't wait to hear the rest!!
DAMN THRICE YOU NEVER CEASE TO IMPRESS ME. IF YOU READ THIS YOU GUYS ARE EVERYTHING I LOVE ABOUT MUSIC AND MY REAL MUSIC HEROES!!!!! YOU ALWAYS HAVE A MESSAGE THAT MOVES ME & INSPIRES ME TO PLAY GUITAR AND PLAY FROM THE HEART.
The three songs I've heard from this album have been so deep and powrfully filled with real messages. This may be one of the most powerful albums ive ever heard. Just wow!
amazing vocals that have come so far in technique and tone....I remember the first time I heard their first album, haven't stopped listening since.
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!!!
Quickly becoming one of my faves on this record. Can't wait to hear it live!!!!
This is pretty emotionally crushing if you know what the song is about. Easily one of the heaviest songs they have ever done. Maybe my favourite track on the album.
Finally a song that is getting me encouraged about the album. Much, much better than the first two songs.
Im addicted to this song
Man they are delivering on so many levels in this new album. I can't wait for the full release.
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen! !
I didn't think anything could touch Beggars but this album is shaping up to be a contender.
Personally, I think Beggars and Major/Minor are their weakest albums, with Major/Minor being a bit better (I didn't like Beggars. Seems hollow, doesn't have the Thrice substance). I think Illusion of Safety and Artist in the Ambulance were the absolute pinnacle of Thrice, but this album is so goddamn good. It's definitely on par with Illusion and Artist.
Hey man, it's all about preference and personal opinion. Personally, I thought it lacked the substance and composed sound that makes Thrice what they are.

Music doesn't get better than this.
The Guitar solo at 2:20 is the best part of the song!
By God, it's Thrice. Making everybody happy again.
How can the best get better? Album after album they never cease to amaze me. Always evolving.
yup. love em all so far but this is easily my fave. Can't wait for the full album. NEVER STOP MAKING MUSIC (PLEASE).

Strong. Real Strong. This hit me in the heart so hard.
Holy. Fucking. Shit. WHAT? This is SO GOOD. This song has so much diversity. What a fucking amazing song. WHAT IS HAPPENING HONESTLY, PLEASE SHARE THIS SONG. GET THIS SONG IN FRONT OF PEOPLE'S FACES
black honey sold me on this album heard it driving and was mind blowin how perfect it all sounded. had to download it soon as I got home.
listen to all their music. At least from this album all the way back to Vheissu, and maybe Artist In The Ambulance. If you can enjoy Artist In The Ambulance as well, then go ahead and listen to the first 2 albums as well, though it's more punk than alternative rock.
3 albums you MUST listen to are Major Minor, The Alchemy Index, and Vheissu, though.
its amazing how these guys keep impressing me more and more every time they put out something new.. ive been a fan from the beginning and grow along with their music.

Chills. So many Chills.
chills.....amazing....can't wait for the rest of the album. love! love! love!
Dustin your lyrics (as always) are on point. and of course the song as a whole gives me chills...always my favorite band.
Wow. This just made my day.

it's as if thrice is literally trying to make me love them all over again. SUCCESS. PURE FUCKING GOLD.
Love this song! I can see O'Brother's Lay Down being an influence for the chorus.

I am happy Thrice is back and putting out awesome stuff again.
Already listening to this over and over again.
Favorite song from the album so far.
They are just getting better!!
thrice is back at it again with phenomenal music. cant wait to buy this album! i don't buy many albums, but when i do it is not because i am a fan, but the music actually means something, is enjoyable to listen to, and has my respect. thank you for keeping it real with your music.
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!!!
Just preordered. Tonight can't come soon enough!
Effortless mastery of emotion. Never disappoints.
killing it as always! cant wait for the album to drop!!
Really get a Mastodon vibe with this track. Love it.
Ok, now THIS is what I'm talking about! Blood In The Sand was ok, Black Honey was better... But this song is on that level that I know Thrice for! Very stoked! The teasers of the other songs sound extremely promising as well!
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!!!
Blood on the Sands was ok, Black Honey was great but this is just too good. Lyrically and structurally this is the Thrice from Major/Minor, musically they have truly reached back to Vheissu, their greatest achievement to date.
agreed
We can agree to disagree. Vheissu to me is the best they made. It combines what they learned on all previous albums and projects.
+Jani Van landschoot I agree with you about Vheissu. Nothing can ever top that one.
1) Vheissu- 10/10
2) The Artist in the Ambulance- 10/10
3) The Illusion of Safety- 10/10
4) The Alchemy Indices- 9/10
5) Major/Minor- 8/10
6) Beggars- 8/10
+Witness Me you are deaf... major/minor & Beggars 8/10 !??? you're clearly out of your mental capacity of understanding...it's all about evolution and this sh!t never gets old..
moubou118 I use my 10/10s incredibly sparingly. It's just that Thrice's first 3 canonical albums are some of the best that I have ever heard. An 8/10 is high praise.
The last 5 seconds of this has me hyped for Whistleblower!
Thrice and Hopesfall are honestly the most underrated most effective bands to hit me too late
getting so close! cannot wait to hear the rest!
It seems hiatus has not dulled them, but sharpened them to a fine point. They just keep hitting it out of the park. Can't wait for the album. They seem to have a bit of a theme going on.
This song is absolutely amazing!
amazing
Really shows their progression. Drums are fantastic
Thank you, Thrice.
This band makes the type of music that makes it impossible for me to put them in a box where other bands are, it's too freaking expressive, this indignation feeling that this song for example brings me is fascinating and I feel it in every song I've heard from them, but in a different optic. It's hard to explain, I just know that it's divine.
that chorus!
It's like a track from Beggars and a track from Fire EP had a beautiful, yet brutal baby.
Amazing!
AMAZING! This album will rule!
Didn't Know this band, it's awesome !
Welcome to the wonderful world of Thrice. Total disclaimer, no two albums sound that similar. If I had to recommend an album closest to this, I would say Vheissu is nearest in sound. Enjoy :)
+Blankface91 thanks i really like the voice in this song.
major/minor sir, that is their peak album
The Artist in the Ambulance tho
this song is soooooo good!!!
amazing.
I love Thrice and have loved every album, but DAMN... this is one of my favourite songs since Artist in the Ambulance or Illusion of Safety... I love the contrast between the soft verses and the ripping chorus. I hope they play this live next week!
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html
A must listen!
SOOO GOOOOOD
Great stuff. So brutal. Awesome to see you guys back.
best song so far!!!
Honestly can't wait for this album to be released!!
what a sick fucking string of songs to create an album
Too good!
this song rocks
intense and beautiful.
love love love

A must listen!!!
I love your music
Army Infantryman here. I’ve never piloted a drone or fired a missile but I can imagine the psychological toll such activities might take on a man. I prefer machine guns. Chilling tune. Great stuff.
Can't wait until they do a 15 year Alchemy Index Tour, the 15 year Vheissu tour was awesome, i caught them in Worcester, MA at the Palladium. I LOVE Thrice
ruclips.net/video/0lk4NlqJlKY/видео.html

Yay more music
