I rode this in person in 2018 and this really is the best overall attraction that I’ve ever seen from Disney. (I've been to every Disney park on the planet.) The sound system, ride system, and amazing animatronics, combined with the screen projections, are just all orchestrated so perfectly. I’m a huge fan of the original Pirates ride at Disneyland in California, but if I set nostalgia aside, Shanghai’s version is my clear favorite. This video, while very well done, can’t fully capture the experience. It’s absolutely amazing.
I'm shocked at how different this is to the original US rides! Though I haven't seen all the films, I'm familiar with the characters and am so impressed with how they updated the ride to reflect the storylines. It looks insane!

it's just a pane of glass in front of the robot, that when is lit from the front you can see the front projection of the skeleton reflecting off, whilst the Jack Sparrow animation character is not lit behind the glass. Then the special effects play the fade graphic whilst the back lighting of the Jack Sparrow character is slowly lit and the front project is no longer lit. Next time it's night time, look out the window of a bright lit room and see your reflection in the window as if it's a mirror. Then turn the lights down and see the outside world lit. Same principle. That's my guess anyhow.. :-)
"Pepper's Ghost" is what the illusion is called (also used to make semi-transparent "holograms" appear on stage). And that is how it works. The Haunted Mansion uses it all over the place.

i was able to ride this ride when my family went to china in november. this is seriously probably the best ride i have ever been on. and the boat is electronic too it speeds up slows down turns and stuff. it's really cool to see how far disney has come with their rides.
I went on the ride this week for the first time and some of my favorite things can’t be translated in this video. I love the seaweed gently moving in the “water” in the room right before you see the two crewmen in stocks and the treasure! Looks just like it would in real life swaying with the waves! There is also a splash of water when Davy Jones’ ship surges out of the water! And lastly, the boat moves at different speeds and directions that make it feel more authentic and unique than just a simple water boat ride! You feel the thrust of moving down and up and forward which is amazing in person!
Ok this is AMAZING!!! I love the classic, but working from the ground up, I love the direction they went with this! They still have a lot of nods to the original, and they kept the waterfall drop but put it at a more dramatic moment story wise. The ways in which they incorporated the movies was also amazing! The effects were spectacular, and while I usually find large screens annoying (and the effect failed once between cars), the ways in which they used the screens were usually pretty good, and when they did use animatronics and ghosts they came out amazing and added a lot! Especially jack transforming from a skeleton, that was a next level twist I did not expect!! They also improved the ride capacity by a lot and made the vehicles land/sea based, both of which I approve. All in all, well done Disney!
This is phenomenal!! Thank you for posting these videos. I've never been able to travel because travel is so expensive for me :( but it is something is dearly wish and hope to be able to do someday. I'm blown away by how awesome this POTC is. The ones at WDW and Disneyland are nothing compared to this one. I know it must have been quite an exciting and entertaining ride in person. I'm glad I got to see a video of it. The ride is spectacular!!! Disney needs to do some updates in the US. I've seen other rides like Magic Manor (I think that's what it's called) that was exceptional also. I think other countries are getting far superior rides than what we have. Thanks for sharing this video!!!
No Disneyland does not need to update theirs. They have ruined it enough with the political correctness and the addition of Jack Sparrow. Remember there would be no movie without the original story line of the original ride.
+Martin Hightower I know, but I still like seeing Jack Sparrow. He makes the whole story better and he's easy on the eyes. I love the quirky pirate persona he created. It's just a female thing.
If they're going to use this many screens, I hope they've fixed the video loops. Seeing the videos starting over when you enter a new set is a little jarring lol
@@kyleingalla7034 I've been there before, there supposed to have a gate slowly opening at 5:53 , and I think it malfunctioned while he was recording, so the audience saw the transitions on the screen
I was upset when they changed parts of the original Disneyland ride to match the movies, but this one is very creative. The use of elaborate real props combined with distant video shots in the same scene works really well
It's not too often a POV of any ride, of any type, makes me actually comment...but damn, this is some seriously impressive stuff. I've never seen anything like it, the integration of the projections with the environment, including the movement of the boat, is incredible.
Wow! This is incredible. The attention to detail is superb. I have only ever visited Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and this version of the ride is far superior to both the ones in the US. I wish the US would up their rides to this level because this is astonishing! Makes me want to visit Disneyland Shanghai!
Pretty impressive. Damn impressive. Though I get nauseated at the comments from those wishing to rip down the old rides in the US to replace with this stuff. Buy a ticket and visit the Shanghai Disney if you want, the cost can't be honestly that much more than what it costs to go to Disney World these days. Also, to those saying "Way better than the one in Orlando/California"....could you make a more relevant comparison maybe? You're basically comparing 40 year old tech, to modern tech. Also, "better" is subjective...
Honestly, as cool as this version is, I prefer that the Disney Parks in the US stick to their roots. I mean, as cool as it would be to actually feel like your in the POTC movies, the classic feel style of the ride has it's own charm to it. After all, without the original POTC ride, their would be no movie. However, if the do decide to make the rides in the US like the Shangai ride, I would welcome the change, but it's better to keep it as is.
@@nono-ch8oy You realize how expensive Disney is these days, right? It's not the family option for many that it was in years past. It's getting more expensive every year. And pre-pandemic I would have made the comment about it not being a luxury to travel to other countries anymore (because it really wasn't), but coming out of this mess might have things tilting back to it being a little more of a luxury type option for most.
That ride looks really cool, and very well detailed! I LOVE the effects the have with the real life objects, costumes, puppets, and stuff mixed with the giant television screen. Makes it all feel so much more realistic really.
I have been to every Disney Park, Hong Kong being the exception. This is the most spectacular attraction in any. of the parks. My daughter and I were able to go on this attraction 3 times and each time it got more spectacular. It didn’t even matter the Jack Sparrow spoke in Mandarin. The visuals were stunning. You really felt like you were under water and then forced to the surface with all of the other ships. Tran was great...this was an event in itself.
Like you, I have been to most of the Disney parks. My exception is Paris. I was blown away by this ride. I was not expecting this at all and rode it 3 times. For those complaining about the video and lack of animatronics, I don't think they have ridden the ride and been able to detect all of the animatronics that are actually in the video. To be there and ride on it is an entirely different experience than watching it on video. Like you, I really felt like I was getting shot up from the bottom of the ocean to the surface. Tron was also a favorite of mine and I can't wait until it hits the US.
Wow, I would go to Shanghai just for this ride. They figured out the best way to utilize the movie for the ride. Amazing effects, seamless transitions, this is next level.
I need to go visit there too. Got to love Jack, he cracks me up, even if I can't understand their language. Their animatronics and special effects are amazing and spot on.
All in, still the BEST of the last decade. Water backing up to an OMNI max screen, boating between two battling pirate ships. Ships bursting out of the water. The scale of this cannot be rivaled. It is is unmatched by any Star Wars, Guardians, Harry Potter, Velocicoasters.... yeah even TRON cannot beat this best in the world ride. Japan wishes it had this. Plus it looks like it was built for capacity. So everyone who comes into the park gets to ride.
Never have I wanted to go to Shanghai more than I do now...And I LOVE the idea of travelling as is, but DAMN!!! This ride alone is worth the cost of the flight, hotel, and park access!!!!!!
This ride does look visually amazing and better then WDW for sure! But, Disneyland is the OG and the only Disney area I’ve been too so it holds a special place in my heart.
They did! The Hong Kong Disneyland version of the Haunted Mansion (called Mystic Manor) uses this same technology. It has a very different storyline to the American one due to cultural differences (the dead are revered with great respect in China and the original Haunted Mansion humorous take on the dearly departed would be regarded as offensive in China) but it is well worth seeing. If you want to watch a ridethrough of it, type 'mystic manor hong kong disneyland' into the searchbox and it should come straight up.
Jack Lame If you do, take an oxygen tank with you. Can barely see because of the pollution. China is destroying their country with pollution. They will be out of water in the next 5 to 7 years. It's very dirty and polluted. Not worth going to for a 3 minute ride at DisneySatan Land!
Michael K Goode it's a fact for every developing country they all do this and then taper off when times are better. This year they are implementing green practices. Look at los angelos in the 40s.
This has to be my favorite Disney ride of all time! It’s is technically beautiful in so many ways! You just have to experience it in person to understand!
This version of pirates is amazing and the animatronics are so fluent but it will never be as classic as the original. Also I’m curious if it smells like the original ride.
This is literally the greatest pirates ride I have ever seen. I swear I’ve never been so happy to be so confused in all my life. Luckily I’ve seen the movie so I know what’s going on. Wow
Absolutely amazing! I love the way they blend the videos with the physical; especially all of the explosions. This is definitely on my list of places to go.
Might I suggest also watching a vid of the Haunted Mansion at Hong Kong Disneyland - it uses the same sort of large-screen digital projections mixed with audio-animatronics and it's amazing. It's called Mystic Manor in Hong Kong due to cultural differences and has a different storyline, but it's well worth seeing. If you put 'hong kong Disneyland mystic manor' into the search box it should come straight up.
What a cool ride! Can someone go back and film this attraction from the back seat? You don't get to see how the boat swings around front and back on that neat ride system unless you sit in the back. Still ponedering... is Disneyland original still the best? Thanks for posting.
I rode this a week ago and my mind is still blown. I don't know how, but it actually feels like the boat is going down when you're watching the big screen go underwater. Same for when you're rising up to go to battle, the boat feels like it's moving up.
My hat off to the imagineers...this was money well spent and should set the future standards for ride making.

WOW, that was pretty incredible! Disney you outdid yourselves i'm very impressed.
It’s cool how the used screens to their advantage and the ride is so cool and unique!
That would be amazing to ride. I love everything about it. Talk about immersion!
i would probably pass out if i went on this ride in person. it looks way too realistic. the imagineers really did their best work with this one!
This is a genuinely amazing attraction
ジャック・スパロウの最初の登場の仕方がかっこいい
てかアトラクションの演出めちゃめちゃかっこいいな
Wow, I would go to Shanghai just for this ride. They figured out the best way to utilize the movie for the ride. Amazing effects, seamless transitions, this is next level.
I love this ride so much! And I haven't even been on it yet! I want to go on so badly!
exactly it goes from zero to one hundred in liking it. 10/10 for this ride wow
This is my personal favourite in Shanghai Disneyland, you should try it!
I need to go visit there too. Got to love Jack, he cracks me up, even if I can't understand their language. Their animatronics and special effects are amazing and spot on.
日本のカリブの海賊と全然スケールが違う!うらやましい!
鷹団 確かに
鷹団 それな!!!
こういうのも、作ればいいのに。
ファービーBLK 最近じゃねぇし、スクリーンの方が金かかるしなんか草
All in, still the BEST of the last decade. Water backing up to an OMNI max screen, boating between two battling pirate ships. Ships bursting out of the water. The scale of this cannot be rivaled. It is is unmatched by any Star Wars, Guardians, Harry Potter, Velocicoasters.... yeah even TRON cannot beat this best in the world ride. Japan wishes it had this. Plus it looks like it was built for capacity. So everyone who comes into the park gets to ride.
A legion of Flying Dutchmen?! Holy shit! This truly is amazing!
Never have I wanted to go to Shanghai more than I do now...And I LOVE the idea of travelling as is, but DAMN!!! This ride alone is worth the cost of the flight, hotel, and park access!!!!!!
相当なパイレーツオブカリビアン好きでないとこんなリアルな世界観あるアトラクションは作れないと思う。
This must of cost a total fortune,,, amazing,,, . And how big is this ride !!!!! HUGE!!!!
5:56 Love that beautiful transaction!
This ride does look visually amazing and better then WDW for sure! But, Disneyland is the OG and the only Disney area I’ve been too so it holds a special place in my heart.
:O .. I literally got chills watching this.. my GOD!! 6:18 - JESUS. This ride is majestic!!
Man, wish the one in Anaheim was that amazing. Don't get me wrong I love the original, but that looks epic.
I think this one is way overdone. It's almost ridiculous, but I did enjoy seeing the pirate ships floating up and the mermaids and the kraken.
Yes!! I was just telling my mom the exact same thing
Whoa... this ride is BETTER than the original Disneyland ride in Anaheim
The movement in Jack is amazing
About time we see the kraken in full & moving ALIVE...
This is the best Pirates of the Caribbean related thing that we've gotten since At World's End
これはこれでうらやましいけど、日本の海賊船が戦っているところに出た時の感動もまだすごい。
日本は映像やシューティング系アトラクションばかり新設されてきたから、美女と野獣とかこれからに期待。
I loved this ride soo much!! I went there like 6 times in 2 days, and I was still very fun!
@2:35 what kind of sorcery is this?
I think it's a completely black figure but they just project the skeleton onto the black
Projection mapping.
Thom Arellano
I know right I had to watch it a couple times. too cool
It is an extremely clever and well-done Pepper's Ghost.
Pepper's Ghost.
Amazing! What wonderful& beautiful work done on all the characters and special effects!
If they do something like this for The Haunted Mansion that'd be cool.
Mary Jane Lopez what have they changed? If it's the nightmare before Christmas, they've had that for the holidays for a good many years now.
This is the best pirates of the caribbean ride ever
Fuck. I'm going to Shanghai
becareful of chinese people pooping everywhere
Jack Lame If you do, take an oxygen tank with you. Can barely see because of the pollution. China is destroying their country with pollution. They will be out of water in the next 5 to 7 years. It's very dirty and polluted. Not worth going to for a 3 minute ride at DisneySatan Land!
Michael K Goode it's a fact for every developing country they all do this and then taper off when times are better. This year they are implementing green practices. Look at los angelos in the 40s.
Your joke is not funny at all, and you must be a brainwashed idiot.
No thanks. I heard the crowd culture sucks
This has to be my favorite Disney ride of all time! It’s is technically beautiful in so many ways! You just have to experience it in person to understand!
This is much, much better then the one they have in Orlando. The effects are awesome.
カリブの海賊って言うよりはパイレーツオブカリビアンの世界観が強い。日本のとはまた別物だね。これはこれで面白そうだし。スケールがすごい。
Best experience I ever had. Well done to the engineers
honestly i literally cant comprehend what i just watched
This is the best pirate ride ever
This version of pirates is amazing and the animatronics are so fluent but it will never be as classic as the original. Also I’m curious if it smells like the original ride.
BEST waterride in the whole world!!!!!!!
2:16なぁ〜にこれぇ!
This is literally the greatest pirates ride I have ever seen. I swear I’ve never been so happy to be so confused in all my life. Luckily I’ve seen the movie so I know what’s going on. Wow
これって日本カリブの海賊が進んだストーリーじゃない
This ride is right up there with Rise of the Resistance.... I'm so thankful I've been able to ride both!
I hope this is some sort of indication of what we can expect from the Star Wars E-tickets.
Absolutely amazing! I love the way they blend the videos with the physical; especially all of the explosions. This is definitely on my list of places to go.
5:30 Kraken forgot it was needed and was a split second late!
This ride looks amazing! They did so well on this!
1度でいいから乗ってみたい……😂
Mother of God. This is just simply amazing. And I am not an easy man to impress.
Oh shit, that jack sparrow part was amazing
This looks SO much better than the Pirates rides here in the US!
Are you kidding? This is a million times better than the original ride!
