Last year I grew tomatillos and froze a couple gallon bags of them. I have used them during the year for guacamole( my husband got an amazing recipe from a friend). I love your garden! It keeps giving because you’ve done the work, you’re such a great gardener.
Another RUclipsr I watch, she does organic gardening, she takes tape and puts on the eggs when she them. She said it’s time consuming, but it helps keeps a lot of plants bug free
nasturtums are deterants for squash bugs and are edible, also once your done with them you can toss them to your chickens as greens. marigolds are also deterants.
The continuous bounty from your garden, highlighted in the July 2024 homestead harvest, is a true testament to your hard work and dedication. Your ability to nurture and sustain such a thriving garden reflects your deep commitment to self-sufficiency and the joy of cultivating your own food. The abundance you’ve achieved not only showcases your gardening skills but also emphasizes the rewarding connection between effort and harvest. Your success is both inspiring and a beautiful example of sustainable living. And I am Floating Village Life.
Last year, I had to pull TONS of green tomatoes from my plants due to a frost coming and was able to make 12 pints of salsa verde! I think I used a recipe from one of the Ball canning books. It’s delicious if you ever have trouble growing/finding tomatillos 😊
Hey, Kelsey! Watching you while I do my morning routine. This may help you with those one bite beans-think of it as taste tested. They took one bite and it tasted horrible so they moved on. They actually saved you from processing so much bad tasting food. ❤
Love love love it!! Big and bountiful beautiful garden!! My hubby and I love your videos!! Love your yard!! You have a cute family! Enjoy the fruits of labor!!
I just got my first order of Redmond Salt. Thank you for the discount code. I can’t wait to try it. I love your channel. I’m watching your older videos and learning lots.
Fall garden is my favorite. I got hit with early blight harder than usual but the only rain we got all season was after the blight had set in so I couldn’t treat it properly. Like you, I decided to give myself some grace ( I struggle with that if I’m being honest ) I’m going to focus on fall because most of the market farmers around me grow an abundance of summer crops so I can always purchase something if I need to for preserving.
Japanese beetle traps do work. Trick is to not put it where the beetles are. You need to put it outside your garden but near enough for them to smell the pheromones. 😊
I cannot wait to see your potato haul it's always fun even if the harvest is small. Love watching all the garden things while dreaming of future gardens. Apartment living sucks!
Good morning! ☀️ I enjoyed my first cherry tomato yesterday while watering, what a treat it was. There are a couple more on the plant but not yet fully ripe. I have 38 paste tomato plants, two cherry and one beefsteak tomato plants and the cherry tomato plant is the only one that has something ready to eat. Most don’t even have any tomatoes starting. I wonder if the excessive heat played a role in the lack of fruit starting?? We need some rain too. It’s going to be much cooler this week which will be nice for getting some weeding and harvesting done. Your harvest and the flowers are looking so beautiful! 🌸 I’m glad you had a lovely time away with Matt, thank you friend for sharing your garden with us. 🤗
I would definitely say the heat is contributing to the lack of tomatoes, the plants might be stressed. It’s been tough summer for everyone it seems! Hopefully soon things settle a bit. Thanks so much, it was nice to get away but also just as nice to come home ☺️ blessings ❤️
Everything looks yummy! We ate a big pan of blistered shishito peppers no problem so it might just be a side dish if you and your family like them. I like roasted okra. Green beans steamed then cooked with bacon is a winner here. Borscht would take care of your cabbage and beets.
I saw a recipe online that I haven’t tried yet but they used a bundt pan to make a huge amount of baked jalapeño poppers. I’m looking forward to trying that.
@@seedandsparrowhomestead I responded but I guess RUclips didn’t like my answer. You cut the top off, core, stuff and stand them up in the pan instead of laying them on their side. The recipe is on P - intrest ( I think that’s why it didn’t post when I responded before) if you need a visual reference.
Maybe just plant peas all over as a cover crop to help boost the nitrogen in the soil and to deters weeds from filling in the empty spaces. You can always plant your fall garden in the same area as the peS
If U have chilli trees U can keep them over winter but they do loik like dead sticks...but still alive...to grow next year U may need to dig up if snow...protect for winter inside house... Are U going to bake the beetroots...yummee...😮😮😮😮😅😮😮

This is my favorite punch to use for a party or summer gathering!
I'm curious...what do you spray your garden for bugs? We are doing our best NOT to use chemicals. We lost our radishes to bugs. I'm in NC so the heat here has been 95 plus for weeks with little rain. However, we got our break this week. Highs in the 80's with rain! So thankful!
@@seedandsparrowhomestead I hear ya. I make a LOT of chicken tamales, chicken verde and cream cheese burritos, breakfast chilaquiles, white bean chili and chile rellenos casseroles. They all batch cook well ( aside from chilaquiles) so if you need ways to use your salsa, they are good work lunches for the week if Matt eat that kind of stuff.

As for things to do with the peppers... Do yourself a solid and dry them any which way you like. make sure to wear safety goggles, long sleeved shirt, the best mask you have for breathing.... and keep all distractions away for this part... Get your spice grinder of choice out and blitz the peppers till a fine powder, add some of your favourite salt and fresh cracked pepper with some sort of green herb... Oregano or Basil or Mint or Rosemary that is also dried and blitzed.... Mix and you now have your own Pepper Salt. If you want you can also add a bit of sugar, but I don't. You will thank me.... Hugs from Esquimalt
I don't know if you'll see this before you give the beans to your chickens but I've read numerous times to NOT give beans to chickens because it can kill them!
I’ve heard that before. I’ve given them a few here and there in moderation and never had any issues over the last 7 years. It can definitely be a problem if they are given in excess or often!
@@seedandsparrowhomestead Oh ok. I had read not to even give them one and it scared me when I saw you were gonna give them to yours. Good to know it’s not gonna kill them to have a few!
I was wondering the same thing! The greenhouse that I normally get stuff from sold plants they called “pepperoncini” last year and I raised the shishito from seeds that were a couple of years old. They looked identical. What I had gotten in the past labeled pepperoncini was a shorter rounder yellowish green pepper.
Pickled pepperoncini is wonderful for Mississippi beef or pork.
Wow, you've reached 50,000! Just noticed that.
We are having a heat wave here in Ontario, Canada. Our tomatoes are still green. Last week we had terrible rains and flooding. Thanks for sharing.
Oh no! Hopefully the weather settles soon! ❤️❤️❤️
@@seedandsparrowhomestead its very hot now, but all our major highways were flooded, my husband took 3 hours to get home.

I can't understand how some people have a bountiful garden and some of us struggle hard to get one cucumber.😢
You are not alone!! I am the same!! LOL!! But I might have a garden video coming up soon!! Taken me years...and still years too perfect it!!
Our cucumbers have barely been putting out as well. Weve been watering and thankfully have gotten rain , but I think they are done.
I've been getting one at a time.
Same! Sadly. Cucumbers are my favorite….
The cucumbers are a great size for lady Ashburn pickles still usable

I do a korean cucumber salad with a kind of "marinade" takes a flavorless cucumber and turns it into a delicious side dish

Picking too late most likely! Could also be from picking after a good rain, they swell up and crack more easily ❤️
How do you use your pineapple sage? I grew some last year and have alot dried. I've used it with pork and fish. But, was curious how you use it.
