What stands out to me most is the pace and intensity of the game. Both teams are sprinting on the fast break. Even on made baskets they are getting the ball out quickly and pushing the ball up the court. I don’t think current nba teams could keep up the pace
Not a chance lol. Today's players conditioning is terrible in comparison. Rewatching these amazing games made me laugh even more when I hear than these players couldn't compete in today's nba.
Most remember this game because of the grit and iron will Isaiah Thomas showed in almost leading the Pistons to their first title, and rightfully so. This added to his reputation as a winning player that could one day win a title. But it was Big Game James Worthy who really lived up to his reputation in this game and the deciding game 7 of this epic series. In what would go on to be the Lakers last title winning team until 2000.
Yes, with Kareem nearly on his last legs, Worthy truly stepped into that #2 role behind Magic. And was arguably the best player on the Lakers especially in games 6 and 7.
This Pistons team was so good at getting back defensively. They could play in any style, too. In all honesty, they probably should’ve won this championship, but the Lakers showed amazing resiliency and willpower.
Isiah's Pistons really came THIS close to 3-peating. I don't know of another NBA team ever, other than the 2013 Spurs, that came THIS close to winning a title, and didn't.
@@jaxsonsdad79 That's a little different. The Rockets had the lead and held on. The Spurs were up 5 with less than 30 seconds left and found a way to lose that game.
Hey! I went on your Odyssey channel and looked throughout your posts- I couldn't find the '89 regular season match-up between Houston-Lakers involving Kareem and Dream's last battle. If you come across that, do you mind posting it? I did find a handful of games on there though I haven't seen in ages- thanks!
i read rich cohen s book when it was a war and in the chapter of the game 6 he clearly says that no foul was committed by lambieer on jabar that led t o the free throws preventing the pistona from winining the championship according to cohen there was controversey about the call though there was none i guess he was a piston fan

No it wasn't. You can't hit Kareem on his hip on a hook. What part of that don't you guys understand? That is equivalent to touching someone's elbow when they shoot. You can't do that.

Isaiah Thomas scoring 43 points on basically one leg is one of the greatest NBA finals single game performances ever

Grew up watching the Kobe / Shaq ere but man I wish I could’ve seen showtime. For those that saw both eras, you guys are lucky!!
Yup, not only was I privileged to see both eras but I'm old enough to have seen West & Wilt battle the Knicks in the early '70's.
I didn't watch my lakers until 85 but I guess u can say I seen a little showtime era😂🙌🏾💪🏾
Say what you will about Isiah Thomas, but when he was playing, he gave it his all every game, and this game is a perfect example.
True that. It's just that he was such a huge douche bag OFF THE COURT
