  • Well if you are gonna cook meals to die for they better be done right - and if you are in the market for a new BBQ, and /or considering a smoker - this is a must-watch review of my Yoder!
    Not only did I do a lot of research up front, but I held off doing a review for six months and plenty of cooks to really experience the pros (many!) and cons (few) of this Kansas made beauty.
    **Update** Shout out to Tate from Yoder who took the opportunity to watch my video! He pointed out two important updates:
    1. I said the deflector plate was aluminum; as you might guess from my last video and the weight, it is solid steel!
    2. Shutdown Mode can be reversed with the reignite option (this is great news, though in terms of my advice of always keeping the hopper full of pellets that still is the best way to go).
    Yoder had nothing to do with this review - bought the smoker on my own, options and experience is all mine.

      Thanks for watching! Did you choose the Yoder. and are you happy with your choice? I'm a couple of years in with mine now, and still works great, although my fall project is to have at the until - I was a little careless with the elements and have some rust etc. that I need to fix and repaint.

      Thanks! Well Toronto cold anyway ;-) I used it last week in about -20 and it worked fine...of course you burn through more fuel but other than that all good - my first winter - did some ribs at -10 for four hours and all good - the metal is so thick that once it gets going it retains the heat well. Yoder does sell an insulator for the unit but advise it is for lower ~250F cooks like ribs, and it's pretty expensive for what it is (smokerbroker.ca/shop/bbq-accessories/ys-cover-heat-pellet-ys640-ys640-comp-cart-all-in-one/ ) so I do without. Thanks for asking!!

    For future reference if your smoker ever shuts down for whatever reason, just turn your oven on to the same temperature and immediately place the food inside until your smoker is ready. Easy fix.

    Very nice video. Good quality. Good information. For sure a quality grill. I know you can't get offset quality smoke from a pellet smoker, but man, I was sure hoping for that price tag, the Yoder would put more smoke on the food. I guess the quest continues.

      Thanks for your kind words first of all! You get a good look at the smoke in my reveal at 11:11 of this cook: ruclips.net/video/zO10E7I0ZlY/видео.html but over shorter cooks it is more subtle for sure - really good at long-slow rib recipes though.. I have heard people putting a separate smoke tube in to kick it up a notch but the Yoder folks would correctly tell us that throws off the air flow and risks too much smoke.

      At this price point, i dont understand why more people dont look at the Lone Star Grillz pellet grill.. Still 100% American made, and quality steel. From all the talk and reviews, its a smoker.. Constant thin blue smoke

    At this price point, look at the Lone Star Grillz pellet grill.. 100% American Made, solid steel construction, more cooking space and constant thin blue smoke, not the occasional kick of smoke, constant.

      Thanks for watching! Just checked our the Lone Star...good looking units - I like the American manufacturing, and the pellet pot that you can remove and clean underneath - that's a nice feature. I still like the look of the Yoder better, less "blocky", but that's personal preference. Another good American made smoker to choose from!

      Hi! There is some rust on the front of the unit, you can see that in my latest video. That is more my fault, as I could have done a better job protecting if from the elements. The hopper where the pellets are is 100% fine/free from rust. To clean it check out my maintenance video here: ruclips.net/video/XmYivCt12u0/видео.htmlsi=C6tpRtmecqU2LxOJ - re: shipping, I purchased it early in the season and Barbeque Galore in Toronto assembled and shipped it for free as part of a promotion, but whatever, it's so heavy worth the money to have them assemble and bring it to your back yard. A honest review. Over kill as far as how heavy this grill is. I think the manufacturers had good intentions but it’s way too dang heavy. I had to built a cement platform so it cause it sank into the dirt. Next, if you’re looking for a bbq grill that going to add smoke flavor to your meats this is not the grill. Pellet grill don’t add flavor. I don’t care what type of pellets you buy. Cleaning this grill is the worst. That diffuser plate is a pure pain to remove. This grill is a not easy to clean. Lastly, I sold my ys640 last week thank God. Yoder needs to go back to the drawing board for those of you that are sold on pellet grills.

    • @LastRequestBarbeque
      @LastRequestBarbeque  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching and your comments! Mine is starting to sink as well, going to build an interlocking brick little patio for it...my experience has been more positive in terms of adding smoke flavour...for example, cranked it up to almost 700 degrees last week and cooked three pizzas (without the Yoder Pizza oven attachment) and they were nice and smokey. Pro tip...if you want a burst of smoke flavour, about 10 minutes before your cook is over crank up the heat and the Yoder works hard to drop pellets and blast the smoke - you can also cover up the chimney pipe a bit and that really amps up the smoke in my experience. Hope you enjoy your next grill better - let us know how it turns out!!

      @@LastRequestBarbeque I'm mainly a bbq guy. I used to have a bbq catering business for ten yrs. When my father passed I decided to sell my commercial grill and get something smaller. The company I bought my commercial Grill from is BQ Grills in Elm City NC. That grill I had made by BQ grills was the best gill I have ever cooked on and it created the best bbq I have ever tasted. Of course, I have to give myself credit too. My mistake was being lazy and not wanting to drive back to NC for smaller version of my commercial grill. Yoder was a mistake! Pellet grills aren't for me. I don't use artificial flavoring. If you ever get tired of your yoder I'm telling you try BQ Grills in NC. YOU won't regret it ! I have a smaller version of my grill I purchased ten yrs ago being made now. It should be ready in two weeks:).

      @@24elkbass I would not buy any run of the mill propane gas grill. I am at heart a charcoal guy but, when I went commercial 14 yrs ago I need a more consistent heat source. So, I found BQ grills. They make charcoal, or wood burning grill also. I purchased one of the large pig cookers which was propane. It was the best grill I ever cooked on. Tight efficient and cooks with great flavor when seasoned. Bq grills sold it for me when I stopped cooking commercially. When I purchased the Yoder smoker I thought it was cook with flavor also more texture. End result...Pellet grill don't create strong smoke flavor profiles. They are what they are. smoker grills. I ran my new pation grill a few weeks back and it was right on time as far as what I'm looking for from a bbq grill. Direct heat. Righ under the meat!!
