Hello Tom, thanks for the stellar review! Is the brew group on this or any other model in the Specialist range heated like on the ECP 3420? Keep up the good work!
@Tomscoffee I love this machine, it's super easy to use. Only problem I have is trying to get the dosage correct, I end up taking some ground coffee out of the basket after I have used the tamper, so it fits and screws on. It does fit a little bit better, and i dont need to take out as much coffee if I turn the grinder down to the number 1 setting so it grinds up super fine. It still needs a least a tea spoon worth of ground up coffee removed.
So, I bought this machine home with me yesterday. I had a little trouble with the milk, but after watching this (twice), and seeing how you did it, I nailed my next cup. Now, to practice the arty bit.. I cant thank you enough for teaching me how to have beautiful creamy milk. 🤩☕
There are so many videos reviewing this machine, and I've viewed them all. Some are great. But yours is, by far, the most straight-forward, to the point and easy-to-understand review of them all. I've bought the machine now, so I watched your video after I bought it. Regardless of that, thanks a lot for reviewing the Arte - you've made me feel a lot better about my purchase. You've received a new subscriber my friend. Cheers.
Thanks so much for those kind words, Michael. Thanks also for the sub! Yes, the Arte is a nice machine. If you couldn't tell, I am a Delonghi fan. Cheers! ☕️
Tom, excellent review. I’ve had mine for 4 months and agree with everything you said. In practice the main disadvantages are : 1: you can’t empty the beans’ container (without first removing water, base, and accessories before tipping), and 2. Even on the finest setting It doesn’t grind fine enough to use supermarket coffee. Even brands like lavazza or movenpick won’t work. You have to buy more expensive (but fresher) coffee from smaller roasters. Admittedly they probably taste better anyway than stale supermarket beans. One nice feature you didn’t mention was the descaling warning light reminding you to descale.
Yes Alan, I can agree with those points. Coffee that's freshly roasted is so much better anyway, that it's worth it. Good tip about the descaling light. Cheers!
Your videos are coming in HANDY! We just unpacked our machine today - I’m hyped - can’t wait to learn all the things! Thank you so much for your PERFECT PERFECT videos ❤
Thanks so much for the wonderful video, @Tom! Do you have any recommendation for grinding & steam pressure? Somehow my machine never hits the optimal zone and the expresso never has that nice oil extraction on top of your expresso 😢
Hello, thanks for your amazing and clarifier contents videos, so helpful, one off your videos you talked about the coffee quality, what kind and brand that you use for your coffee. Thanks
Excellent review, it made things much easier for me, but I'm very annoyed that the tamper isn't perfectly fit, is it normal to can't fit the tamper completely? As it stop after only fitting the tamper head ? Do i in need another one ?
Thanks Tom. You've convinced me. Excellent video, best demonstration I've seen. I'm about to buy. Liked and subscribed, and looking forward to more of your coffee tips!
just unpacked today in Australia where Americano is marked as Long Black. I stuffed up the milk and it went everywhere so best to not fill the pot too much! But i learnt a lot - thanks Bernie
Hi Tom Thank you for the helpful video. My question is: Is this machine need a Tablet to clean?. because i couldn’t search any video for clean with the tablet Thanks
Glad to hear it, Michael! I hope you have fun with this machine. Please check out my other videos on how to steam milk and how to get the right pressure for your extraction. Cheers!
Tom! Super helpful, I am awaiting delivery of this model coming tomorrow. Super excited! I debated on the automatic vs the manual but in the end of the day I was looking for the experience as well!
Hi, great video. :) I'm looking for a bottomless portafilter for my la specialista arte and the offer is very reduced. You recommend the Normcore and I'm wondering.. does it fit in the dose/tamping funnel? Do you have any other recommendation for bottomless portafiler? Thank you
Thank you Tom. Very helpful. I have just unpacked my machine and it has come with only one single basket. If I want to make coffee on the double setting, can I use the portafilter without an added basket inserted?
Thanks for the comprehensive review, I would consider buying this machine if I needed to replace my current Delonghi EC680/KG521 kit. The compact size and control of coffee powder mess are good qualities for partner acceptance. I'm surprised that Delonghi, the most prolific manufacturer of coffee machines, has taken so long to bring this machine to the market. In my opinion, you would need to spend double the money to get a significantly better machine such as the Lelit Kate PL82T.
Thank you for your feedback, Boris. I agree, it’s a good machine for people who want a no mess solution. Of course there’s also the barista express, which is also a nice machine.
Looks amazing! I'm such a coffee person! 😋I've tried this and I'm still practicing, but I can do better. Which type of milk should I use? Cow's milk or plant based milk like soy, oat and almond? I'd recommend choosing plant-based, because I don't like cow's milk.
Is the hot water ever in contact with the plastic components? For those of us concerned with Phthalate transfer. Also, what machines in the market have the 3 way solenoid valve? Loved the review.
Thanks Tom very interesting and helpful. Have just unpacked my machine and had a couple of tries to make a decent cappuccino. I have a question. What are the little dual wall baskets for? Mine has come with only one single basket. I have made the coffee using the portafilter just as you did in the video on a double setting. Seems fine. What are the baskets for and why do I need them?
Hey Wendy! The dual walled are for espresso that is older, or not ground fine enough. The dual walled creates additional resistance, thus adding to the crema (albeit fake crema). The single walled baskets are better for freshly ground coffee. I did this video on the differences (for Gaggia, but the principle is the same): ruclips.net/video/pdS5agzACr4/видео.html
To be honest, if you use the OEM baskets, you need to stick with the included tamper, because those are smaller baskets. If you want to use the IMS basket, then you can get an aftermarket 51mm tamper. Cheers!
Hello to Norway! Hmm, I don't like the idea of the Breville Barista Max, because I believe it is a blatant copycat machine. The real Breville in the EU is called Sage. That being said, I would go for the Sage Barista Express. Cheers! Tom
Very good and thorough review. I appreciate the pros and cons unlike some reviews where every machine is the greatest! I’m looking to make a purchase of a fully automatic machine but I haven’t been able to decide between the Jura E8 or several other comparable competitors. I’d really like to see you do a review of one of these in the future if possible. Thanks.
Hmm, if you have noticed, I have not reviewed a fully automatic, because I generally don't like them. They are convenient, but don't make a good coffee in my opinion. The one exception that I know, is once I had a really great aromatic and full bodied coffee from some kind of large Jura machine. Maybe I could review an E8, but I'd have to buy one first, and they are kind of pricey. Jura: if you are listening, feel free to send me a model to review! :0)
sorry I don't understand what you mean by you can't make back to back espresso (I'm Italian): that can't make multiple cups continuously? what is the three way solenoid valve for? to block the water supply inside the filter holder? is that why when it turns off it still drips and the coffee inside is wet? with the Dedica it is always a problem to make more than two coffees consecutively. absurd that the temper provided does not adhere perfectly to the filter. great job, as always 😉
Hi there! You have to wait 30-60 seconds for the pressure to dissipate before pulling another shot. Otherwise, when you remove the portafilter, stuff will make a mess everywhere. Cheers!
Excellent detailed review, I'm considering purchasing this machine however need to better understand how to pull a triple espresso?? Waiting three minutes between??
Hi, no. A double espresso uses a double basket with like 16 grams. A triple would do like 20-22 grams. But I have not seen a triple basket for the Delonghi.
Hi Tom, thanks for the excellent review - you covered everything I needed to know to make my decision and I'm very happy with the machine! One thing I was going to ask you about - I've not noticed the machine 'sneezing' when removing the portafilter pretty much as soon as the pressure needle reaches 0 - but what I have noticed is the puck sticking to the showerscreen pretty much all of the time at the moment. For reference, the machine is dialed in to extract with pressure on the righthand side of the 'optimal zone' (almost at the 1pm position). I'd like to say the puck is at the correct level in the basket after tamping (as per the instructions) - but am worried I'm overfilling the basket slightly? Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Thanks!
Well, I'd recommend measuring out 16g via scale, and waiting 60 seconds before removing the PF, to avoid that sneeze. Also, it's not a big deal if the puck sticks to the shower screen. It happens to me too, sometimes.
Thanks for the great review Tom, in South Africa this machine sells for the same as the Gaggia Classic Pro with a separate grinder. Would be interested to know which one you would go for?
Hi there! Well I consider 3 things: espresso, milk, and ergonomics. They both can do good milk, although the Specialista is easier to work with. Gaggia wins for espresso. Specialista wins for ergonomics. GCP is a classic, and may have better resale value. Have fun! Tom
Hi Tom, there are 3 different size filter baskets in the IMS Precision link you posted. Any specific one you recommend for this machine? and how many grams do you recommend for the double basket comes with the machine? I only drink flat white or Latte. Thanks a lot.
Hello 👋🏾 thanks for your review I’ll move forward and get the machine! The only question that I have because I also have another espresso delonghi (EC820.B) machine and I hate that after steaming the milk I must wait between 5-7 min to prepare a new espresso 😢. Said that, what is the waiting time for this machine to prepare next espresso after steaming some milk?
Hi Tom, thanks for the video. I bought the machine yesterday and your video was the first one I watched! Really thank you for the information! I do have some confusion. I didnt set up the machine right out of the box like you did here. I still dont understand the pause like 1 or 2 seconds setting for the espresso, the grind setting 1 or 2 for the Cappuccino, and the volumetric shot like how you pressing down the OK button to get more espresso to come out and the ratio. Is that something you only do if you want something extra, like a better taste and more espresso volume?
Hi there! I made this follow up video, which may be helpful: ruclips.net/video/Kkl4sO2l45w/видео.html The pre-infusion is not all that impactful, I set it to be low on this machine. The grind setting IS important. Try to get twice the yield, in 20-25 seconds. Pressing down on the OK button is to get the ideal volume you want, volumetrically. So if you want 30 grams, just use a scale and hold the OK button until you get 30 grams, then let go. Anyway, please check out the other vids I have on this machine. I think they'll be helpful. Here's a playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLOBVVD2p7BmnOFchBXPqQ5_tHMLhZK3RR
I bought this machine. Is £100 cheaper then sage, have more accessories and For me is okay that is not metal. Only think I wish I could remove grinder.
Could you please tell me if you think that this included grinder is good enough? I wouldnt like to need to buy another. Thank u for everything you're posting!
Hi Adina. I would say for €450 to €500 that this machine costs, it is good enough. But if you want a really good grinder, save up for a Eureka Manuale.
Great video mate. I was trying to work out how to remove the grinder after buying the machine and you confirmed it that you can't. What settings should I use for dosing and grinding? I tried 20% for dose and 2 for grinding but when I tasted it was rather bitter. When I did it with my old manual Saeco Via Venezia was smooth. Thank you.
Hey Alfred, don't bother with the timing knob too much. You can use the grinder manually, too. Just try using a scale to get 16 grams for a double shot. As for sourness, you will need to play with the grind setting, to try getting 32-40 grams out in 20-25 seconds. Also, some lighter or medium roasts will always be more acidic than darker roasts, at least in my experience. Try using the highest temp setting. Cheers!
I think I misspoke in the video actually. The included tamper fits well in the included baskets. But if you upgrade to a better basket (I am using the IMF precision basket), then a different tamper is needed. Still interested? Then check out the 51mm tamper by Normcore, and the basket by IMS. IMS Basket: geni.us/DeLonghi_IMS_Basket Normcore Tamper: geni.us/NormCoreV4 (choose the 51.5mm version)
Hey Andy, well in the description, I have both this and the Barista Express listed. I would say those are the top competitors in this arena. The Barista Express has a better grinder, but I prefer the aesthetics of the Delonghi, and they have been really reliable for me. Cheers!

Fantastic review thanks. Out of interest do you know how this compares to the Sage Barista express please? I have both on my shortlist and the Sage is about another £170 but wasn't sure if I'm going to see a real difference in quality? Many thanks
Hi David! Thanks for your comment and question. I have both machines. Both do a good job. I like the aesthetics and ergonomics better on the Delonghi. Also, I have taken apart both Sages and Delonghis, and the Delonghis seem to have better quality in my opinion. But, the grinder on the Sage offers more variance for dialing in. In the end, I would still go for the La Specialista. Cheers!
Hi Luc, that’s a good question. You set the amount for the espresso volumetrically. I’m guessing the Americano uses that same volume. But as for water, I’m not that sure. I will have to look into it. For now, I just stop it when I want to.
I am guessing the grinder will offer more range, and the espresso group is probably heated, which is another advantage. I do prefer the design of Delonghi though.
Hi Tom. Apologies if this is a stupid question. I bought my machine and am testing it out. Re the button for 1 or 2 dose do you always select 1 dose if you are using the 1 cup filter and select 2 dose if you are using the larger 2 cup filter? I read in the manual it's important to get that correct as everything from grinding to delivery is affected by that selection? Many thanks.
Hi Tom. Love your videos. I purchased this machine and really like it. 2 questions, I’m getting a wet puck with water pooling in the portofilter. Also, is it possible to clean the grinder? As I’m concerned that after a year of use I may end up with problems. Hope to hear from you soon. John
Hi John, I’m just starting to look into how to take this machine apart. I’ve got the one side off, but the top also needs to be removed in order to access the grinder. I will probably do a video on it soon enough. Thanks for the idea! As for the water pooling, I’m not entirely sure what you mean. If the pock is wet, or you might just want to wait a little longer before removing the portafilter. I generally wait 1 to 2 minutes to do that. Cheers! Tom
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Hey Tom, thanks for your answer. I got it new yesterday but i still dont fully understand the machine haha. I have another question. I read online that a normal americano holds around 18g of coffee, if i put that in the double basket and press on the 2 ( wich seems for the double basket ) i get 2 americanos, should i just put it on 1 or is that only for a single basket?
Hi Tom first very good video. Liked it very much. I bought this machine some days ago and i am struggling with the pressure. I bought very dark beans, a mix of arabica and robusta and i tried all of your tips but still not the right amount of pressure. Am i missing something or can you please tell me what else i can try? What would be your settings?Thx in advance.
hey,i need an answear fast plz...should i buy this for 350£ or the Espresso Machine Beko CEG7302B for 320£ ? i don t mind the price difference,i want the better deal, better coffe, cleaning, better overall :3
Hello Tom! I have the coffee maker la specialista arte, the first 10 coffees came out very hot, the following coffees were room temperature to drink instantly not too hot, if I wait a few minutes it becomes cold. The minimum temperature in my town is 12 degrees. is this normal? I've only had the coffee maker for 10 days.
Hey, two questions. Can you place the portafilter properly under the gridner without using this aid? Can you buy additional portafilters that fit in this machine? Are there certain standards to this? Thanks in advance!
Hi Maron! Sure, you can use the grinder without the funnel, but using the funnel is much better. It avoids mess. I have found an aftermarket portafilter for this machine from Neouza. I have it linked in the description. Cheers!
Hello, I have a question about baskets. Maybe you know, if those original baskets and IMS basket would fit Delonghi EC785 (diy bottomless portafilter)? Thanks! Btw, EC785 has the same tamper ant it’s 50mm, that’s why it does not fit perfectly in the basket.
Hi! The IMS basket fits in the Dedica and La Specialista models. But, the La Specialista baskets are not really interchangeable in the Dedica, due to a different basket ridge design. Cheers!
Mine only came with unpressurized baskets, but if you have a Delonghi pressurized ESE basket lying around, that would likely work. Or look here: amzn.to/3OqdMfa
Hi Michelle, I wouldn't really recommend it. It does come with a grinder, so I suggest to get some beans 2-6 weeks off of roast date, as they give the best extraction.
Hi Tom, thank you for all you amazing videos. I have just 1 question regarding the comparation vidoe between Delonghi La Specialista Arte and Sage Barista Express. When will it be uploaded? Which one do you prefer? Best Regards Henrik
Hi Henrik, thanks for the request. That video is on the list. They both have pros and cons, but I have to test the Sage a little longer before making a comp video. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Hi Tom, thank you for your quick reply - I will look forward to see the test so I can decide which one shall be my first espressomachine. Do you think it will be in 1 week or 2? Cheers!
Just wondering I'm very new this will be my first coffee machine you mentioned you can't vlean the grinder as a con. Is it something that needs to be cleaned?
Right. Well it depends on the beans. Really dark, oily roasts will kind of gunk up your grinder relatively quickly. So I would suggest anything other than that. And since you cannot take the grinder hopper off, you can use these to help clean your grinder: Grindz: amzn.to/3N5EPbm
Great, detailed review, thanks! I only have one question: if you happen to have already grinded coffee, is it possible to make an espresso only, without the grinding step?
Yes, absolutely! You could even use the included funnel, and pour your preground espresso in there. But in that case, your shot might run a little fast, since pre ground coffee loses freshness quickly. Cheers!
Hey, Tom! Great review! Hope you're seeing this. My old EC685 is beginning to act up (which isn't so strange after 10 years or something), and I'm considering replacing it with the Arte. How much of an upgrade do you think it would be, especially looking at the steam wand? The 685 has always been overperforming for the price in my opinion (I paid less than 150 usd for it back in the day), but the steam wand is far from amazing. Although you didn't seem sold on the Arte's wand either? Also, if there are any other manual machines in the same price class you'd rather recommend, I'd love some input. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I'm not looking to go a lot above 500 usd, and I understand that anything below that might not be advisable for a manual or semi-automatic machine anyway. I'm using a Bodum Bistro electric grinder (with blades, no dosing). I've been weighing 11 g of what I *believe* to be a good grind, with what I feel is a good tamper, and the puck is still more of a wet mush than an actual puck. It used to be more compact, so the machine probably isn't putting out as much pressure as it used. I've descaled, of course. But after improving my barista skills over several years, I think I may be due for an upgrade. I could buy the Arte now, or save up and get the Breville Barista Express Impress in a few months
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I live in Norway, so just assume the machines will be as expensive as possible (lol). I can get a discounted Arte at around 400 usd now, which is 100 less than retail. There's also the Graef Milegra at around 500, previously 1000, but I'm having a hard time finding reviews on it. Considering that my grinder is kind of basic, I'd probably prefer a machine with an integrated grinder, but manual steam wand. Unless there's a very good combo of a fully manual machine and a grinder in the same price range that you'd recommend?
This is the best review I could find when trying to figure out what espresso machine to buy. I am now the proud owner of one, thank you!! Does anyone know if it also supports water filter from Delonghi in the water tank, or just the softballs?
That is super kind of you to say, thank you! I always use Brita filtered water, so I am not sure. I do not believe this one can accommodate a water filter. Cheers! Tom
Hello! thanks for the video, really helpful. We used to have the delonghi dedica ec685M but broke a few weeks ago. Husband took it apart and it turn out that the plastic bit inside broke due to pressure, anyways the issue was that water was escaping from under the bottom of machine. So now we are looking at this model you are reviewing. Can I ask till what temp do you steam your milk to? With the dedica I always used to use a temp wand and used to steam it up till 70 degrees Celsius. I’m wondering because I’ve never been able to pour it so nice like you to make a nice design. Many thanks. And hello from UK 🇬🇧
Hello there! Sorry to hear about your Dedica. I steam to around 60-61 degrees C. If you heat it up too high, it will break down the texture again, and become soupy. It is better to err on the side of too cool, rather than too hot. Cheers, and greetings from Germany!
Hi Tom, your videos are truly informative and you're always giving us some new perspective on the equipment and making us good home barista without breaking a budget. My question would be since I own this machine for couple of months. My biggest problem is two consecutive single shots. Every single time pulling a second shot, machine stops maybe 20% earlier than the first shot before reaching previously programmed 1:2 ratio( same amount of coffee, same grinder setting). Do you have some similar experience?
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. Hmm, I don't know that I have experienced that. Have you measured the weight output? Is it really 20% less yield? Of course the yield will vary a bit, especially if you change beans or grind settings, but if everything else is the same, I would expect a tighter tolerance.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I know, that's a bit strange. Actually yes! 12.5g in , 25g out, second shot usually stops at 20g. Something like losing its power for pulling a shot till the end. We'll see, thanks!
I am planning to upgrade from the Dedica 685 to this one. One question: Is it possible to use any other 51mm portafilter with the included funnel? Does it fit?
Hey there! Yes, any aftermarket portafilter will need to fit the brew group, which means it will also fit the funnel. Here is an example: amzn.to/3PkXMZK Cheers! ☕️
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks for the confirmation. I might start with the included one, but it's always nice to have options. Btw, I often see it happen, that the manufacturers itself explain their products very poorly so videos like yours are even more valuable. Subscribed :)
I just dont feel there's a reason for the grinder. If you buy it separately, it's just as expensive, and it would be extremely cheaper and easier to replace if it breaks down
Hey Kuba! Well, I like the Arte model for its economical price. They will both provide the same pressures. 19 bar is a marketing term. The prestigio has the integrated tamper lever, a nice steam dial, and is dual boiler so that you can steam and make espresso at the same time. But it also costs 2x more. I think the Arte is more handsome, and costs way less, which is why I reviewed it. Cheers!
Hi. Great video. Brand new machine, straight out the box, but the pressure gauge doesn’t move at all. I am getting a decent espresso though. Good tiger stripes on it. Bizarre.
Hey Mandy, that's perplexing....perhaps the manometer is kaput inside, or perhaps the needle has become unthreaded inside the manometer. Obviously, you are getting decent pressure if espresso is coming out. If you contact Delonghi, I bet they can help troubleshoot. Thanks for watching!
Yes, I also have the Barista Express. Should I do a comparison video? I think they are kind of neck and neck, but I like the internals of the Delonghi more. The pressurized water tubes for example are held onto the connectors with a metal grommet and metal clip. The Sage/Breville are held on with cable ties. At least that is how the Bambino Plus is. I think they are both pretty good machines though.
Yes i think they are on the same level, but i’m scared about the integrated grinder of both the machine. Maybe is better buy a grinder like the eureka specialita (like yours) and a used machine like the sage bambino plus.
@@gianlucaugolini3796 Well, the Specialita is going to be way better than either of these grinders. But I think this machine is appealing to a different sort of customer. For the price, I wold suggest the Gaggia Classic Pro over the Bambino Plus, but it depends on your budget. Do you make lots of milk drinks? The Bambino is better at that for sure. But for espresso, the GCP wins.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Agreed! I take only two cappuccino in the morning and two coffee in the evening, the bambino plus costs 450€ and the gaggia 410€ in italy. There’s a big problem of the gaggia for me, I don't like it aesthetically for the house 😂
Hey Gianluca! Oh too bad you don't like the aesthetics of the GCP. I do like it, but my wife doesn't. What do you think about the looks of the Specialista Arte? It's only €500 in Germany. Or do you prefer the looks of the Barista Express? That one is similarly priced.
Good question...you can weigh them out ahead of time, and just set the timer to a value that will grind long enough. For me, if I set it to 20, then it will grind for 13 seconds, which is enough for a double dose (around 16-18 grams).
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom. I considering this to replace my ageing Sage grinder & Bambino+ but I sometimes drink decaf so need the hopper empty. The videos you’ve made covering this machine have been most helpful - thanks again!
Hi Tom!
Tom
Hi there! I would have to test it, but I think it goes quite coarse, since there is such a jump between steps. Anyone try this grinder for french press?
Thanks for all your videos Tom - they are really helpful! I have the Specialista Prestigio and have been doing lots of tests and I don't seem to get a creamy double espresso. I bought fresh beans (arabica - medium roast), set the highest temperature and tried all grinding levels. Between 3-1 the extraction takes almost 40 seconds and between 5-4 it takes 34 seconds and the pressure never gets to the optimal zone. I always fill the double filter to the line which is approx. 15g but my coffee comes out black and watery. I would be more than grateful for any suggestion or tip that might help me getting to a good espresso. Thank you!!
Hi Stefanie, take a look at this experiment that I did with a Dedica, and I think you will see the difference. Hi. Enjoyed the review. I own the delonghi dedica and I was looking to upgrade my machine. I was looking to spend around 5-600 us dollars. This one caught my eye because it looked like a good machine, and I've never had any issues with my dedica. I wanted to ask you if there are any other espresso machines with similar price/features to this one that you could recommend. Also, do you have to use the funnel when grinding and tamping with this one? If you dont use it, does it make a mess when grinding? Thanks.
Hi there, and thanks for the feedback! I would suggest either this, the Barista Express, or the Lelit Anita, but that depends on which market you are in. Cheers! Tom
Hi, glad you recommended the dedica-dose control combo it’s my current set up! I was just wondering how you know the age of your lavazza beans I didn’t think they had a roast date on the packet? Are they the best bet for cheap decent quality beans I’m trying to work out where my law of diminishing returns comes from for beans. £12 a bag for local fresh beans is just too much I think but Aldis £1.50 aren’t fresh at all. What beans would you recommend?
Hey Matthew, that is a tough question. It is hard to find good beans for cheap. Lavazza puts a 2 year expiration date on their bags, so just deduct 2 years for the packaging date. Anything 6 weeks or younger is great. Otherwise, I do not know the UK market well enough to tell you which beans are good there. You could consider roasting your own, to save about 50%, and go further down the rabbit hole.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner so do you just go to the supermarket and check all of the bags for the best before? I did look at home roasting but as you say it seems like a dangerous rabbit hole when still in a budget set up. The popcorn machine method was very tempting though. Thanks for the reply
@@matthewgreen8338 Best before only works for Lavazza, as far as I know. Otherwise, might have to stick with a local roaster, if you want to ensure good beans. I kind of switch off between really good beans, and just mediocre beans, to try and balance between good and economical.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner ahh switching could be a good option. I was going to start bulk buying by the 2.5kg and freezing to save some? Also have you ever done a video on simple home roasting, I would be interested about how easy it is to get a half decent result?
@@matthewgreen8338 Hi Matthew, I have not done any home roasting at this point. But there are lots of videos on that subject. Freezing is an option I have heard some people use, but I have never tried it. Cheers!

Woot, woot! Awesome to hear, Melinda! Thanks for the feedback and have fun experimenting! 😉
Cheers! ☕️
I am so tempted to buy one. I have a ecp 3630 I got for $50 used and now I want to upgrade ☕️👍🏽😎
I wouldn't call this an upgrade over the ECP, especially if you already have a grinder. Cheers!
Tom, excellent review. I’ve had mine for 4 months and agree with everything you said. In practice the main disadvantages are :
1: you can’t empty the beans’ container (without first removing water, base, and accessories before tipping), and
Cheers!
This was an excellent review. I just got mine and really appreciated the thorough explanation of each component 😊
Thanks for this. You helped make my mind up. Have just gone for this model.
Your videos are coming in HANDY! We just unpacked our machine today - I’m hyped - can’t wait to learn all the things! Thank you so much for your PERFECT PERFECT videos ❤
Thanks so much for your kind feedback! Have fun experimenting with your Specialista! Tom
Thanks so much for the wonderful video, @Tom! Do you have any recommendation for grinding & steam pressure? Somehow my machine never hits the optimal zone and the expresso never has that nice oil extraction on top of your expresso 😢
Amazon Review. I have been exploring a lot of options to upgrade my coffee machine; and this review made it super easy to make up my mind.
Glad it was helpful Mohammad! Thanks for watching and cheers! ☕️
I just purchased this machine because they also offered in vintage green color
Awesome John, thank you for the feedback! I have made a myriad of videos on this machine, so I hope they are helpful. Cheers!
just unpacked today in Australia where Americano is marked as Long Black. I stuffed up the milk and it went everywhere so best to not fill the pot too much! But i learnt a lot - thanks Bernie
Really enjoyed your honest review.
I’ve owned the Arte since January, using it daily with no complaints.
Great to hear, Brian! It is a nice little machine. What do you use it for most? Espresso, Americano, or Cappu?
I love an Espresso.
Just purchased and love it.
Re the Tamper is a good replacement one at 53 mm or would that be to large to fit the funnel
You need a 51m tamper. Actually, I'd just stick with the OEM tamper, since the OEM baskets are so tapered. Cheers!
Hi Tom
Thank you for the helpful video.
My question is: Is this machine need a Tablet to clean?. because i couldn’t search any video for clean with the tablet
Thanks
No, because you cannot backflush this machine.
The price is closer to 700€+ where I live.
470€ on sale/members deal.
Great Video Tom!
Due to your videos and explanations I bought this machine!
Can‘t wait to see more👍🏻
Glad to hear it, Michael!
I got it because I liked the pressure gauge.
Hi, great video. :) I'm looking for a bottomless portafilter for my la specialista arte and the offer is very reduced.
You recommend the Normcore and I'm wondering.. does it fit in the dose/tamping funnel? Do you have any other recommendation for bottomless portafiler? Thank you
Normcore or Neouza. Those are the only 2 compatible ones I know. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thank you. Do you know if the Normcore fits in the dose funnel?
Just bought this model. Will try it
Gréât review video! Do you know what size tamper it uses? 49 or 50?
51mm
Iv got one and mine doesn't flow as smooth as yours, what am I doing wrong it just drips a couple of drips at a time 😊
Is the garef grinder you mentioned good for espresso?
Which one would you pick between this machine and the Solis grind and infused espresso machine?
I'd go for the Solis, although I haven't tried it. It does look to be a better machine though.
Thank you Tom.
Very helpful.
I have just unpacked my machine and it has come with only one single basket. If I want to make coffee on the double setting, can I use the portafilter without an added basket inserted?
Hi! Are you sure there aren't 2 more baskets, hidden in the packaging somewhere? There should be 2-3 baskets for sure.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner no just the single shot basket.
Dairy is much easier to steam than plant drinks, but you can sometimes get get results with "Barista" oat drink. Cheers!
Is the hot water ever in contact with the plastic components? For those of us concerned with Phthalate transfer. Also, what machines in the market have the 3 way solenoid valve? Loved the review.
Yes, after the thermoblock it leaves on a high pressure line (I think it's nylon or some kind of plastic), and exits a plastic brew group. Cheers!
Hey where’s the tamper you mentioned? I don’t see it listed in the description
To be honest, if you use the OEM baskets, you need to stick with the included tamper, because those are smaller baskets. If you want to use the IMS basket, then you can get an aftermarket 51mm tamper. Cheers!
Hello from Norway.
I appreciate your videos.
One question: what do you think is best: this coffee machine or the breville barista max?
Best regards.
Splendid presentation, thank you !
Glad you liked it!
sorry I don't understand what you mean by you can't make back to back espresso (I'm Italian): that can't make multiple cups continuously?
what is the three way solenoid valve for? to block the water supply inside the filter holder? is that why when it turns off it still drips and the coffee inside is wet? with the Dedica it is always a problem to make more than two coffees consecutively. absurd that the temper provided does not adhere perfectly to the filter. great job, as always 😉
Have fun! Tom
Hello. Do you know, please, if they have the latest revisions, for example, a better grinder? The grinder kills this great coffee maker :-(.
Idk, there is a new model, but I haven't seen it in person yet.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thank you. You think model EC9255.M?
Hi Tom, there are 3 different size filter baskets in the IMS Precision link you posted. Any specific one you recommend for this machine? and how many grams do you recommend for the double basket comes with the machine? I only drink flat white or Latte. Thanks a lot.
I think I have the H26...it just refers to the basket height. I use 16 grams generally. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom
Hello 👋🏾 thanks for your review I’ll move forward and get the machine! The only question that I have because I also have another espresso delonghi (EC820.B) machine and I hate that after steaming the milk I must wait between 5-7 min to prepare a new espresso 😢. Said that, what is the waiting time for this machine to prepare next espresso after steaming some milk?
Please see this video. You don't have to wait, you can cool down the thermoblock yourself: ruclips.net/video/JMyo5A6M_9k/видео.html
Hi there! I made this follow up video, which may be helpful: ruclips.net/video/Kkl4sO2l45w/видео.html
The pre-infusion is not all that impactful, I set it to be low on this machine.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner thank you so much Tom!!
Thank you for your review,. Please we need review for DLEC9335.M

For me is okay that is not metal. Only think I wish I could remove grinder.
Could you please tell me if you think that this included grinder is good enough? I wouldnt like to need to buy another. Thank u for everything you're posting!
Hi Adina. I would say for €450 to €500 that this machine costs, it is good enough. But if you want a really good grinder, save up for a Eureka Manuale.
great review. thank you.
You are very good thanke you very much❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video mate.
Cheers!
Thank you so much for your review, any chance I could get the link for the alternative tamper that fits perfectly to the baskets? Thanks
I think I misspoke in the video actually. The included tamper fits well in the included baskets. But if you upgrade to a better basket (I am using the IMF precision basket), then a different tamper is needed. Still interested? Then check out the 51mm tamper by Normcore, and the basket by IMS.
IMS Basket: geni.us/DeLonghi_IMS_Basket
Normcore Tamper: geni.us/NormCoreV4 (choose the 51.5mm version)
Great vid, very helpful, thanks.
Glad it was helpful, Tom!
I wish I got one:)
Do you have any idea if the internal boiler is made of solid bronze?
It's actually a thermoblock, so stainless steel lines, inside an aluminum heated block. Cheers!
Hey man, great review. Question. I’m looking at an in home solution similar to this. If my budget is $500-$700, what make/model would you recommend?

Cheers!
regarding the americano setting: how can you adjust the coffee/hot water volumes separately?
Hi Luc, that’s a good question. You set the amount for the espresso volumetrically. I’m guessing the Americano uses that same volume. But as for water, I’m not that sure. I will have to look into it. For now, I just stop it when I want to.
Really nice review
LELIT Anita PL042TEMD is better ?
I am guessing the grinder will offer more range, and the espresso group is probably heated, which is another advantage. I do prefer the design of Delonghi though.
I got this machine… is it possible to remove the Tip of the Steam Lance for cleaning?
No, because it is attached to an inner tubing.
Hey Tom, you mention the link for the Tamper, what size? 51 or 53? Thanks!
Hi Pete, it is 51mm. But the OEM one that comes with the machine is fine to use with the OEM baskets.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner sounds good! Can’t wait.
Would you choose this over breville?
Nope. I made a comparison video here: ruclips.net/video/F0MWY8A8iHk/видео.html
That's right, David. The 1/2 cup doses alter the grinding timer, and also the length of the shot. Cheers!
Cheers! Tom
Are double baskets not only if you make coffee for 2 cups? and single for 1 person?
Double baskets just have a higher yield. You can use a single as well. Just depends how much caffeine you want. Cheers!
This or Breville Barista Max Plus?
Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks a lot! :}
Can you use ESE pods with this machine?
Mine only came with unpressurized baskets, but if you have a Delonghi pressurized ESE basket lying around, that would likely work. Or look here: amzn.to/3OqdMfa
Can you use ground espresso with this machine?
Hi Michelle, I wouldn't really recommend it. It does come with a grinder, so I suggest to get some beans 2-6 weeks off of roast date, as they give the best extraction.
just got it for 300€ new, really worth it
Holy smokes! Where'd you get it for 300 euro?!
Hi Tom, thank you for all you amazing videos. I have just 1 question regarding the comparation vidoe between Delonghi La Specialista Arte and Sage Barista Express. When will it be uploaded? Which one do you prefer? Best Regards Henrik

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thank you mate 🙂
Just wondering I'm very new this will be my first coffee machine you mentioned you can't vlean the grinder as a con. Is it something that needs to be cleaned?
Right. Well it depends on the beans. Really dark, oily roasts will kind of gunk up your grinder relatively quickly. So I would suggest anything other than that. And since you cannot take the grinder hopper off, you can use these to help clean your grinder: Grindz: amzn.to/3N5EPbm
Tom are coffee beans delonghi sells safe They are dark roasts but would trust be fine Is Puly crystals sage to use ?
Great, detailed review, thanks! I only have one question: if you happen to have already grinded coffee, is it possible to make an espresso only, without the grinding step?
Yes, absolutely! You could even use the included funnel, and pour your preground espresso in there. But in that case, your shot might run a little fast, since pre ground coffee loses freshness quickly. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Perfect! Thank you for the prompt reply

Tom
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Fantastisch. Danke! :)
Cheers!
Hmm, how much are you looking to spend, and which market are you in? What grinder do you have? Cheers, Tom
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Okay, so the Barista Express was just lowered to 600 usd (150 down), I think I might actually go for that one!
Cheers! Tom
My price range about $700 bucks .. which machine would you buy?
For that range, if you want an integrated grinder, I would recommend the BBE. I made a video about it here: ruclips.net/video/_XgBasLKbCc/видео.html
Hello! thanks for the video, really helpful.
@@ZK-kt5sgmight be getting higher temperatures with the second shot, making the yield lower
@@cyberpope2137 Exactly, after steaming, it is mandatory to bring the temeprature down by flushing the group head.
I am planning to upgrade from the Dedica 685 to this one. One question: Is it possible to use any other 51mm portafilter with the included funnel? Does it fit?
Hey there! Yes, any aftermarket portafilter will need to fit the brew group, which means it will also fit the funnel. Here is an example: amzn.to/3PkXMZK
Cheers! ☕️
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks for the confirmation. I might start with the included one, but it's always nice to have options. Btw, I often see it happen, that the manufacturers itself explain their products very poorly so videos like yours are even more valuable. Subscribed :)
@@oliver.n278 Thanks for the feedback and sub!
I just dont feel there's a reason for the grinder. If you buy it separately, it's just as expensive, and it would be extremely cheaper and easier to replace if it breaks down
Tom, how would you value Arte model over Prestigio with 19bar pressure?
Cheers!
Hallo tom
Wieviel gram nutzt du im einer sieb?

Servus! Um die 10g normalerweise. Gruss!
Have you try the sage barista express? What is better in you opinion?
Thanks for this thorough review. I like to weigh out my beans each time and not keep them in a hopper. I wonder how that would work with this machine?
Good question...you can weigh them out ahead of time, and just set the timer to a value that will grind long enough. For me, if I set it to 20, then it will grind for 13 seconds, which is enough for a double dose (around 16-18 grams).
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom. I considering this to replace my ageing Sage grinder & Bambino+ but I sometimes drink decaf so need the hopper empty. The videos you’ve made covering this machine have been most helpful - thanks again!
@@mattyiow Thanks for the feedback, Matt!
Hi Tom!
I'm looking to buy this to replace my current set up. Does anyone know how coarse the coffee comes out? Does it work for french press / cold brew?
Really dark extractions without crema are usually indicators of beans that have been stored for too long.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Many thanks!!
Cheers! Tom
@Tom's Coffee Corner Hi. Thanks for the suggestions. Happy Holidays!
You too!!
Hi Tom, thank you for your video! Do you think that the hand of this machine is enough to steam the soy milk in a proper way?
Hi Lorenzo, I have not tried soy milk, but it should be the same process. Just make sure the milk is nice and cold, before steaming.
Cheers!
