Finally! Congrats!
Congrats Ealan! Your hard work paid off! I feel you on the dedicated room. I'm in the middle of building a dedicated basement theater with lots of soundproofing. Living room theaters are my worst nightmare, you basically can't use them without disturbing the rest of the house, which in most cases, has no interest in what you want to watch or listen! ;)
No kidding! I would definitely do a basement theater, if we had basements here. Haha! Keep at it! It'll be worth it in the end!
Upstairs I have a Yamaha RX-A2040 / Infinity Primus 6.1 setup. Downstairs is a dream... a dream of a theater room, currently unfinished walls, some sides are studded already. There are 4 theater seats and 2 LuvSacs... no screen, no speakers, no projector or streamer... just 6 seats and a dream. Hehe
Haha! Well the dream is in place, at least. One step at a time!
I'm just getting started in the audio and considering a 5.1. 2 setup. Currently using the TV speakers but money being tight, the Klipsh reference will be the starting point in my living room.
That’s where I started too! 🤘
@@ealanosborne And thanks for mentioning the sale of the Alita Blu-Ray. I bought it yesterday.
@@zorprime21 Hey that's cool! I finished watching it yesterday! :)
You will love them
I'm always happy to see someone else getting their own cinema done, especially since there's so many obstacles to overcome (money, wife approval, space constrictions, actual labor, neighbor complaints, wife approval yes it's twice because when she finds out how much it actually costs you have to get the second approval lol) that it's an achievement in its own right. Congrats on the new build! Can't wait to see all the other videos you have planned!
Thank you very much!
congrats on finishing it and I am looking forward to your upcoming comparison/testing videos
in the spirit of "starting a conversation" (which I love that you want us involved!) I have a similar setup in that i use a 10x20 external standalone garage as my dedicated "theater" room. It's super rough around the edges (i.e. unfinished, exposed attic style roof, concrete floors) but am slowly picking away at it. Currently I have 5.2.2 - My next move is and lingering questions are upgrading to a 4 channel atmos height system, assuming its worth it, but getting a 9 chan receiver is not easy to find and no bargain. Also I am contemplating getting new surround speakers and changing placement to be directly left and right of MLP (only have one couch at listening spot), currently they are a bit behind me at an angle based on dolby's new guidelines...so I'd be curious on your take on 5.1 and placement of those surrounds, because it ain't straightforward and everyone does something different
you got her done, Ealan! Massive congratulations, brother! I'm currently experiencing wonderful sound from The Fives; I think they will be the last speakers I will ever buy and recommend to all.
amazing job, excellent perseverance and so glad that you got it done !! Way to go ! Kudos Ealan !
Congratulations again on this milestone... Now your basics are covered.
Its funny to see what you're thinking when you don't come out and SAY what you wanna just SAY... LOL
HAPPY THEATRICS...
A.B.L. , like Glengarry Glenross. ;)
I'm glad your hard work paid off. You're in an exciting part of the HT journey; discovery of the unknown unknowns. It's going to be a great time. I'm looking forward to it.
I am thrilled with the results of my calibrated home theatre. One of my favourite parts is giving guests and family demos
Exactly! Sharing is the best part! I just demo’d the new theater to my brother-in-law yesterday. He was BLOWN AWAY! 😄🤘
Awesome job Ealan congratulations
Congratulations 🎊 on the sweet new setup, my man!
Congrats on finishing the setup 🎉 looks great 👍 looking forward to the 7000x vs A7 comparison for sure!
I may be watching many of your video out of order as I found your channel 3 weeks ago while searching RUclips university for Atmos surround. I researched for ways to upgrade from 5.1. to a 7.1..2 but I’ve changed plans to go with 5.2.4. Your Costco $1500 Atmos video started my journey with the Klipsch reference 5.0.2. I’ve added two klipsch R12SW, a pair of klipsch RP-500SA, and for the receiver I’m using the Onkyo TX-NR7100 9.2. I have a 120” screen with a LG ultra short throw. Stream for now is Apple 4K and later I will be adding a blue ray player. This cost effective gear and your video was used to get the wife to understand the cost of this set up as a base line. Congrats on your set up as we all know your production will be a boost to a higher level of testing and content.
Kudos man!!!! .. What a journey =)
Glad to see it finally done. Bringing the movie theater experience to home is more or less how I've felt since upgrading the two SPL-15s and my 7.2.4 Klipsch Reference Premiere setup. Sounds better than the RPX theater near me. Don't forget to demo stranger things. The audio was AMAZING! Everyone watching on their tiny phone speakers have no idea what they're missing out on
Gratz Ealan! Nice setup.
I might try the 10.1 setup, I found an extra ceiling speaker for the top center location.
Congratulations on your hard work.
Great job on getting it done! looking forward to more content!
Thank you very much!
Looks great and yes they will drive you insane building one. It’s very similar to my basement theater. The sound absorbing panels made a huge difference oh and carpet instead of concrete. I love my 7000x also. Amazon has scatter plate panels that work great when hung on your back wall. I just used the 3m poster strips to hold them do to their light weight. When it all comes together though the detail you can get from your speakers is incredible.
Being a student dorm, the only luxury I can afford ryt now is HD6xx paired with Ifi Zen Dac V2. Would love to pick up the Klipsch Heritage Promedia 2.1 when I get out of here.
That Heritage series looks dope 🤘
Congrats on finishing the space, look forward to future content Former dedicated home theater now a living room set up with an undersized tv (55") and a 5.1.2 Elac / Sony components. I'd love to have another dedicated space but for now enjoy what we have.....
I'm running a 7.2.4 setup in my dedicated Home Theater with acoustic treatments and I absolutely love it. Haven't been to the theater since before covid. Don't need to! 😆
Congrats on getting your space done how you want it Ealan, time to enjoy!! Can't wait for your new comparison video. I'm just starting with my budget 5.1.2 system (also inspired by your channel) with the Onkyo 6050 and Klipsch theater pack (haven't put it together yet). Might swap out the theater pack for the cinema system since there is currently a $50 difference at my local Costco.
I’m currently in frame out, electrical wire and speaker wire running in my diy home theater. I will be running a 7.2.4 Dolby ATMOS with all Klipsch speakers. Dedicated home theater space I’m building in our new garage I recently build on our house. Room is 12x20x8.
Good luck to you on your fine journey! Excellent setup you have planned!
The wive factor 😂😂😂, yup. Ive got a wive too, but.... she's audio friendly❤❤❤ though the Atmos speakers I lately added are close to the limits of her tolleration 😂🎉
Congratulations Ealan !!!
I really missed your content my notification bell is on !!!
Yayyyy!
Projector is a must here going forward
Just finishing my basement and my dream home theater room! I have some compromises in my room that you were able to mitigate but going all DIY. I am sooo stoked about it! My wife is similar with sound, though I firmly believe that even when people say they don't care they still feel the movie more with the right setup. I think it is more about discerning than actually caring sometimes. People that are enthusiasts are more likely to discern the difference and advocate for the higher quality.
Woohoo! 🤘
In my home theater journey I finally after nearly 10 months I got my RZ50 and I have to say... it glorious. I currently have it running a 7.2.2 until I can perhaps convince the wife to let me get my other 2 height channels. My wife is much like yours she doesn't care in the slightest about any of home theater or sound. Its a tough life for us when wives don't share any interest in our hobbies.
Nice! I wish more companies went with Dirac when it comes to room calibration, so congrats on snagging the RZ50! And yes, my wife doesn’t mind going down to the grow shed and having movie night with the kids once a week, but other than that, she’s totally fine with the 5.1 Sonos Beam setup in the living room currently. 😄
I like the direction you're going with this and I will definitely be watching every video because I want to see the answers to all of your questions.
Below I've got a couple of questions I'm currently trying to research so maybe you could also speak to those in future videos.
Where I'm at: I'm going to split my basement in half and make half a dedicated space about 16 x 16ft (please discuss square rooms).
If I was building today I would make the beginning of a 5.2.4 setup using all in wall speakers except for the subwoofers of course (please do more in wall reviews with affordable choices).
Vary happy to see that you finished your HT. Sorry to see the struggles you went through, can probably write a book. I really like content you’re proposing and looking forward to watch your reviews. I see you also got a 7000x. I’m unfamiliar with the Iota.
Finished our basement mid-summer this year with a small theater room. Went all in on Roku w/ Streambar Pro and 5.1 setup. It’s great for now, as in its easy enough for my 7-year-old to use, and it sounds pretty good. I keep telling myself it’s a good stopgap 😆
One step at a time! If it sounds good to you for now, there’s nothing wrong with that! 😄🤘
Looking forward on the reviews. Currently running a 5.2.2 but I want to have later a 7.2.4
Props for the Hot Fuzz reference :)
Haha! You win! 😁
Enjoy your Home Theater/Testing facility bro! 👌🏻
Great job! I think you need to update that LG HDTV to a projector and a HUGE projector screen! I got a Native 1080p projector and a 140" projector screen in my basement and it's truly immersive. I don't have the impressive audio setup like you do (just a basic 2.1 soundbar with subwoofer) but it does the job. Looking forward to more video from you!
Great job Elan congratulations on your amazing build! I currently have: *Marantz SR5015 for pre-outs
*EMOTIVA BASX A7
*4-B&W 606
*B&W HTM6 center
*2- ENERGY CB-20 (Front Heights)
*Monolith 10 TXH SUB.
Thanks to your previous video reviewing separates. I decided to go this route. Thank again
Hmm, i was a little confuse about the 30 degree angle for Auro 3D. I thought they say to angle down the speakers 30 degrees not to mount them at a height of 30 degrees from your head. I will do more research cause in the future i want to change my receiver and do a setup that can handle Auro 3D too.
looks good, there is still a fair amount of reverb in the room, you may need a few more panels in there
My Home Theater is also in a shed for heating and air I have a aux mini split it's great wasn't expensive and it keeps me cool in the summer and warm in the winter
Oh nice! Hadn't heard of AUX. Thanks for the recommendation!
Can’t wait to see your new videos Ealan! I got back into HT again in 2020 like many others. My system was 20-25 years old and it worked, but outdated. I had been looking to start upgrading and ran across a 4 speaker set of Paradigm Studios (80s and 20s) for $80 locally. Then I picked up a matching center for $200. Next thing I know I’m buying the Yamaha TSR-700 from Costco a couple month later. I’ve since added an 85” Sony, older Integra ADM-2.1 I found for $50. Oh and I’ve added 2 SVS PB-1000 Pros. I have a couple of Klipsch Reference Theater Pack satellites as my Atmos speakers. I’m running a 5.2.2 right now, but I have plans for a Denon x4700h at some point to run a 7.2.4 setup.
Dang, Chuck! Excellent bargain hunting! Welcome back to the HT madness! 😄🤘
Man am I jealous!!! This is my goal some day. And you are 100% right about the wife factor. Andrew Robinson found a keeper.
I look forward to your future videos and along with that the growth of your channel
Thank you very much!
Congratulations and a job very well done! Thanks for sharing this! Hope to hear your thoughts on speaker layouts and audio formats. Plus everything else you put together, of course.
Currently planning & building a 7.2.4 system in a new build. Only have the L/C/R and subwoofers so far.
That’s good start, my friend! One step at a time! 😄
L Love you Video 😊
I will be building my 7.3.4 home theater this fall/winter. I have all of the speakers and subwoofers, waiting to find an RZ-50 and will probably go with an Outlaw 5000 for the LCR and rear Atmos (the RZ-50 requires a separate amp for the 10th and 11th speakers). I’m working on the layout (designing it on CAD) and can’t wait for the voyage to begin! Thankfully we have basements in upstate NY so I have a section carved out for the build. I will probably post the build progress on RUclips for the fun of it and to get constructive feedback from others. Thanks for your channel… your mix of humor and technology is great 😊
Oh man, that sounds like a killer setup! That’s great that you already have the speakers. And I am ALL for waiting on an RZ50. Dirac live is (I think) the best room calibration out there right now. 🤘
Currently, I have and Onkyo PR-SC5530 AV Preamp that does the job fine. I'm building a 6 channel Orchard Audio Ultra Amplifier to go with it fully balanced. For Speakers, I run Klipsch Cornwall IV's for the L & R. My Center Channel is a Heresy IV (arriving soon). For surrounds, I run 1968 Bose 901 Series 1's. Future plans are installing either 4 in ceiling Atmos Speakers or doing an on wall Aura 3D and replacing the Onkyo....one day....maybe....
Is the IOTA Aura 3D and Dolby Atmos and XLR fully balanced outputs. Great work your doing Ealon.
Daaaaamn! Your LCR is insanely huge! Jealous! 😄 The AVX17 is not Auro 3D compatible. Dang. But yes, a full set of XLR outputs. That review will be released next week! 🤘
Great job!...been waiting patiently for you to finish. Maybe a helpful tip...I have both an Auro 3d and Atmos setup with differently setup ceiling speakers as well. I use a Soulpeak speaker switchbox which allows me to toggle switch between different speakers (e.g. VOG & Center Height Auro 3d setting and then toggle switch change to Top Middles for Atmos). Much easier and more convenient than going behind AVR to switch speaker cables each time.
Looking forward to your future videos and thank you!
That’s a crazy unique setup! 🤘
I'm running the Costco Klipsch Reference Dolby Atmos Surround System with two of the R-12SW subwoofers and a re-furb Denon 950 receiver. I'll have to build my own home theater to go any further if I don't want a divorce. Love the channel and hope you get some A/C...written from my 100 degree garage.
Nice! I’m using Audiovector speakers in a 5.1.2 setup. Separates with NAD T187 pre/pro with 4K HDR/ Atmos/ DTS X and Dirac live calibration. Amplifiers are a 3 channel Purifi based and 6 channel from Rotel. Completed with a Velodyne 1200 Ultra and LG C8 OLED.
Whoa. NAD pre/pro with Dirac live is next level! 🤘
@@ealanosborne Yes it sounds awesome! Look up and try to find a Purifi based amplifier if you can. Measures and sounds phenomenal 😁
Been building up over the last couple of years. 5.2.4 Pioneer Elite bookshelves for the front and rear with upward firing on all, Pioneer Elite center, & 2 SVS PB-2000 pros all running off Yamaha 3060 using series x for gaming, bluerays, & streaming. Next month getting a power amp. My goal is to have actual height on wall and ceiling channels. I'm very envious of your setup and what you will be bringing in the future!!!
Sweet setup! How is the Series X as your entertainment hub? I rocked an XBOX One S for awhile, but had some weird software issues intermittently. Is the Series X reliable in that regard?
My son and myself put together a home theatre with a sony a80j oled heco aurora 700 black edition towers heco aurora 30 Centre speaker, q acoustics 3030i rears plus matching stands wharfedale speakers for atmos channels and a denon 2700w receiver ps 5 and xbox x and 4k sony blue ray player for movie's at the moment we use a Hartke bass amplifier and 12" Hartke bass speaker for bass guitar as we don't have the money for something good yet still sounds awesome.
That's a killer setup! That's some good father/son bonding right there. 🙂
Can't wait for the AVX17 vs SR7015. Since your video about the iotavx I am thinking about replacing my AVR in Preamp mode but can't get my head around wether it's gonna be worth it
Me too! I'm very interested in the results myself!
I was looking for a budget system so I found the Jamo video and I went to Amazon and got the 5.0 system. I then got the tower speakers s809 for my front left and right. I also upgraded my subs to the c910 x2 for a little extra base/power. I would say I have a 7.2.2, for an avr I use the Yamaha rx-v6a which I plan on upgrading in the near future.
Heyyy, nice job with the bargain hunting! I started with the Klipsch 5.1 theater pack, so you’re on a better path than I was at the start! 😁🤘
Ealan, I started my home theater journey with your recommendation of the Klipsh Htib with R51m’s as left and rights about 2 years ago. Today, I’ve moved into a dedicated theater room with a 135 inch screen, an Onkyo Tx-RZ50, the Klipsh 5.0.2 speakers plus the 51m’s plus two Klipsch 12 inch woofers totaling a 7.2.2 (hope to add 2 more heights in the future). Thanks to you showing me how to get started and giving me a lot of tips in your videos I’ve made it this far! Thank you! Also been supporting you a little on patron so I hope some of that went into making your theater a reality $3 at a time haha. Thank you sir! Edit: spelling
Man, thanks for this. It helps me know that my efforts are helping at least a few people out there. 🙂 Truly appreciate it. 🤘
@@ealanosborne I can’t wait to see you continue to grow! My favorite and only person in this space I actively check for new videos from!
Haha! @7:04 Yep, same! I’ve got a 5.1.4 Atmos setup with four Polk OWM3’s mounted on the ceiling. All in my living room. This is the only space we have, it’s not ideal but it sounds really good. Whenever we move, you better believe I’m going to get a dedicated space and set the speakers where they should be.
Oh for sure! My previous living room sounded great! But now that I’ve gone dedicated, it really is on a whole new level. 🤘
@@ealanosborne The only thing is I have an open concept so the dining area is the same large room as the living room. And, hardwood floors, ugh.
@@Rockovissi That was my previous house’s living room situation. A big ass rug helps, and some ceiling panels (I’d try and make them look nicer than mine, though 😄). That’s where I’d start, if you haven’t already.
@@ealanosborne I do have a big ass rug but I think I’m going to wait until we move to do anything else to it. But as you’ve said, wife factor!
I am just starting out on my HT journey. I have been buying some gear since November last year but i am yet to listen/connect them. I am moving this month so everything comes together in the new house. For now its just a 3.1 System. Klipsch RP 8000F for the Fronts, RP 504C Centre Channel and PB16 Ultra for the SW. Tv is a C2 77 also not yet here as i am shipping it all the way to Kenya.
Dang, that’s a huge 3.1 system! What a fantastic start! Congrats and good luck on the move! 🤘
If the Iota is made by Tone Winner as suspected. I am not surprised of the increased base output. My Tone Winner AT- 300 is quite base heavy.
Not in a bad way, though! Bass sounded hard and clean! 🤘
Great Job ! Your "BATCAVE" is awesome and your reviews are more interesting and complete. I've a dedicated room 7.1.4 with onkyo pre and emotiva amps. My speakers are JBL Northridge series (old style but very efficient for HT use) . Subs are 2 Klipsch and they are an earthquake. I prefer projector (110 inc) an my projector is a 4K HDR OPTOMA UHD51A. In future I0m going to buy another emotive amps and change projector with another optima with laser tech.
Man, that setup sounds incredible!
Me jbl 5.1 bar l Love you full 3D Auto
Hi Ealan, sorry I may have missed it but I have a similar speaker set-up (11.4.10. Using Trinnov) , same inclinometer, tripod and headscratching, quite weird in a way watching your video :-). I did it about a year ago and love the auro result. But I keep looking at the space where the atmos speakers should be, do you have any intent to wire for those as well? Or going for the compromise approach auro/DTS/atmos?
Mr Cool DIY ductless mini split system. I just installed one and it's super easy especially if your air handler will be mounted on an exterior wall.
Ooooo, thanks for the recommendation! 🤘
@@ealanosborne no problem, I also wanted to add That I know exactly what you mean about the frustrations of building a home theater. I recently remodeled mine And decided to skim coat the walls to remove all texture. All I can say is that I have nothing but respect for drywallers.
@@valdeze Dude, no kidding! It's basically an art form that I have no business even attempting!
Could you explain the different components for newbs like me? Like what's a pre-amb? What would happened if you didn't have one, etc
A receiver (or AVR) is all-in-one: Audio processor, video switcher, and amp in one unit. A preamp processes audio and does video switching, but has no internal amps, so you need a home theater external amp to actually send a powered audio signal to your speakers. Typically, a newb like yourself would start with an AVR, since preamps are relatively expensive compared to entry-level AVRs.
Welcome back Ealan! I'm still relatively new to the channel but I have converted (or am converting) one of our spare bedrooms into a home theater. Now I've gone for the Sony HT-A9 combined with a SA-SW5 subwoofer because I don't want to (nor will my wife let me) start drilling into ceilings for dedicated speakers. So far I've been really impressed with what these 4 speakers and sub can do (coming from a standalone soundbar) but one of the main questions I've been asking myself is: will a rug (floor is LVT) and acoustic panels help me? Height channels are based on bouncing sound off the ceiling but surround isn't so maybe a few acoustic panels on the wall in the right place would help? I started Googling stuff about them but there is so much stuff out there I'm having a hard time seeing the woods through the trees.
Thanks! And yeah, acoustic treatment on the sides would help, definitely. In my previous video about my acoustic panel-making journey, I go over the simple way of knowing where to position the side panels to get rid of your first and second reflections of your front soundstage. That should be good enough, since that system does rely on the ceiling to create the Atmos experience.
I'm planning on getting the HT-A9 for my living room when we move into our new construction home (hopefully Aug/Sept at the latest). My wife also doesn't want holes in our brand new home, so wireless is the way to go, now that I have my dedicated theater space. :)
@@ealanosborne Cheers I’ll check that video out!
Hi Ealan. Are you still planning to review the Novus Slim speakers? Thanks, Loving your vids!
I sure am! Within the next couple weeks!
@@ealanosborne Thanks man, keep up the good work!
So top high speakers are not recommended i am about to place 4x top sealing speakers...
Well it's true, you want some more from the Atmos speakers than original hear after installation and calibration. So...... I just added 3dB extra to my height speakers. It's cheating but I like it.
Great job on this entire process.
I could not imagine being in that room without AC. Will the humidity cause any internal damage to the speaker components?
I laughed out loud when you mentioned your wife not giving a $hit. I’m in the same boat, but I was able to start a dedicated room above the garage here in Florida once Covid made this a kind of hobby for me.
My journey started out with finding the best center channel. I ended up with the SVS Ultra Center after going though about 5 other center speakers. Once that was figured out, I added Ultra Towers. I have 9 foot ceilings, so I went with in ceiling middle speakers from Jamo. Currently using SVS satellite speakers for surround, rears, top fronts as well. SB16 Ultra is now in the mix as well.
I made 10 acoustic panels to hang on the wall. But after your video, I need to go back now and add a spacer in the rear to uncouple them from the wall.
I also made a mistake and did copper clad wiring at first. Eventually swapped everything to pure copper from Monolith.
Powered by Denon 3700H, with an Emotiva BasX5175 for my bed layer. Saving up for a Monolith power amp to switch the Denon to only Pre-out mode.
I think Audyssey in conjunction with learning REW was the biggest improvement for my system. Very curious how how the IOTA will perform. Will you provide any measurements from your MLP?
Thanks again for the entertaining videos 🍻
Wow! Amazing (mostly) SVS setup, including a PB16 Ultra? Daaamn! Jealous! 😁 And I might have a video with measurements. We’ll see. Not everyone is jazzed about measurements like you and I, so I’m still deciding on that. 😄
@@ealanosborne Yeah, I was open to any brand, but all my research showed that the center channel NEEDS to be great. I tried multiple Klipsch, KEF and Polk centers first, and even the SVS Prime center. The Ultra SVS center just seemed to give me the best dialogue and dynamics. I then just stuck with SVS to timbre match.
I wish I had the PB16, but it was just physically too large. The SB16 is awesome. I only have one because the Ultra Towers are set to small with a 40hz crossover. Those smooth out the bass throughout the room, the SB16 is just the cherry on top.
I hope your channel keeps growing and SVS sends you some more stuff to review. 👍🏼
Hi Ealan, you had Denon 4700 on pre amp mode before how does the Iotavx compare with the Denon.
It was too long ago to remember. BUT…I am literally planning on having the AVX17 go head-to-head against my Marantz SR7015 (which is the Marantz equivalent to the x4700h). So stay tuned for that in the upcoming weeks!
I can truly relate, my home theatre has been part of the living room for around 12 years, that's how long I've had the death stare from my wife 🤣🤣. But the dream is to have a separate living space for a dedicated home theatre. I've pieced mine bit by bit over the years upgrading whenever possible. I just started with separate about 2 month ago, I bought an outlaw 7000 amp to power my 7 channel bed layer. For some reason I think there is something wrong with my setup, I was expecting more power when I added my amp but I've never had separates so can't compare plus I'm aware that my home theatre is budget level compared to others. I don't have room treatment so I know that can improve the sound performance.I'm eager to see your review on the outlaw amp and the comparisons. My current 7.2.4 setup is as follows- Denon 4700 receiver, Outlaw 7000- 7 channel amp, my Left and right are the Jamo C 97 II, the surrounds are the Jamo C 9 SUR II, the rear surrounds are the C 93 II bookshelves, the Center is SVS Ultra center, the 4 heights (front and rear, cause I use Auro 3D as much as Atmos) are Polk OWM3, the subs are SVS PC 2000 pro. I enjoy the content, appreciate your approach, simplicity and humbleness. Looking forward to what you have next. God bless.
I would be very surprised if the amp was performing correctly on the C97s and you weren't happy, I have a very similar setup to you but with first gen C97 and C10 Cen and in ceiling Atmos running off a Denon X3700 in preamp mode, to an Emotiva A700 which is only 80w RMS to all 7 channels, and found it a major upgrade in clarity and low end grunt, I have a reasonable sized room and have never needed to push the amp close to its limit. Perhaps something is wrong with gain level somewhere or source input levels?
Is it louder when you turn off Audessey?
@@calibre00 Thank you, I appreciate you reaching out. I've noticed a bit of improvement, I had higher expectations going into separates and adding the outlaw amp. I've heard so many great things about the amp and how it can improved your listening experience so much. I've gone in fixed the levels and distances after calibrating with Audessy, I haven't touched the input source level, when playing music I go either stereo with the subs playing and bypassing Audessy to the left/right speaker or simply pure direct. But, I'm finding myself having to go as low as -12 to -10, that's when the towers come alive, when listening to music, I didn't expect to have to go that the low when I added the amp. With Movies I stay around -20 since I live in a townhouse. Not sure if it's unrealistic expectations or if there is something wrong with the amp, looking into learning how to test the wattage coming out of the amp, or I may have to buy an amp with more power to compare, but that will be in a year or two. Thank you again for reaching out I appreciate your time and advice.
@@thereaperscoming no problem. That is strange... The 120w RMS my C97s get in pure direct/ 2ch mode from my A700 would blow my head off at -10db so im not sure what is going on there.
I predominantly use Appletv for my music source and have found some apps seem to have much lower gain than others?
Ie Tidal compared to Apple music or Spotify is very low.
Though as I mentioned Im running in full pre-amp mode so all internal amps on the Denon are off, and im very happy with it.
Maybe an option for you down the road is to add something like an Emotiva A3 (130w x3) for the front stage and run the Outlaw to the rest?
Thats my plan eventually.
Edit: just noticed you need 11 channels... A3 wont quite get there.
You are probably one of a handful in your area who have a ground rod actually driven to the 8' depth, wonder how your house ground rod was driven?
Great question! I’d imagine the original/previous owners of my brother-in-law’s house didn’t drive it to a depth of 8 feet since the electrical in general is shoddy at best. Many bizarre shortcuts were taken just to get electricity throughout the house and garage/shop. Not to code, for sure. So I’m glad I did it right with the shed theater. Can’t take any chances with products that I don’t exactly own and might have to send back! 😄
May be a sully question but, can you use your former 5.1 (old) receiver to power additional (separetes?) channels with the preouts of the new Atmos receiver instead of having to buy any of the Emotivas? BTW Great channel!!
Not really. Most AVRs don’t have a way to turn itself into a straight amp. Although I haven’t tried myself, so I bet there’s a workaround, right? 😄
Hey Ealan, I just bought a used 5.1 set of the Aperion Audio Verus ii speakers including the Bravus ii 12D sub. My dedicated “theatre” room is about 12.5’x13’. Do you think it would make sense to go separates? Or is there a receiver that can handle these speakers? I’m also hoping to add a pair of atmos ceiling mounted speakers later. Keep up the great videos!
Whoa, what a great find! And well, separates might be a good future goal, but you can always start off a good AVR that has pre outs which you can then add external amps into the mix over time. The Verus line definitely shines with more power being fed through them.
Hey that wife segment i experienced the same but some how managed to keep the basic 5.1.2 in my living room!!! But its a long way frm here to achieve wat u hv!! Congratulations
And the pre amp n power amps combo s better than a avr!? And in wat way we can able to differentiate!?! Explain
I’m gonna do a comparison video of the AVX17 and Marantz SR7015 in preamp mode, because I wanna know if there’s a difference too! Stay tuned! 😁🤘
Why did you set speakers for Auro 3d? Do you have overseas movies in that format? Is it just for Auro upmixing?
Yeah, mostly for upmixing and to have a hybrid setup where I could more easily test Auro, Dolby and DTS upmixing
It may have been asked before. I looked through the description but didn't see it. What is that laser level you used?
Oh, whoops! Here you go! 👇

@@ealanosborne thanks
But Ealan, why have one test theater when you can have two at twice the price?!
Seriously though, I am happy you were able to get it done. Excited to see those reviews! I am going to use your tips for sound proofing on my home theater as well. Appreciate all the hard work to get us the constant we want.
Hahaha! Thanks, dude!
5.1.2
Hi, Elan.
I just had my 11.1 Auro 3D system installed.
I started with 10.1 (center hight). Perfect sound.....hard to understand 5 hight speakers makes such difference.
Then I added the VOG channel. My Marantz 8015 shows all channel are active but VOG is very....modest.
When listening to Wilfried V.B, Joe M and Channa D (you are all great, thank you for what you do) I expected much more from VOG.
Am I wrong to expect more? I have VOG set to maximum (12) and the rest hight speakers set to 6.
Hight speakers: 6 SVS P. Elevation
Front and surround speakers: Canton Ergo RC-L
What should I expect from VOG?
Can you please make a vid. and explain more. As you said....a lot of work goes in to installing them hights.
Thank you.
It’s still a mystery what benefits VOG has (for me personally). This is the first setup I’ve had with VOG and the IOTA AVX17 doesn’t support Auro 3D. So once I’m officially done reviewing it, I’ll be hooking up my SR7015 to run Auro. I plan on making a video soon about how to setup a 10.1 configuration, but also if it’s any good or worth it. So stay tuned! 😁🙌
I’ve a major challenge. I used to have a 7.1.4 then moved and set up a 5.0, now with different equipment in another country I have a 5.1 system. And an HT room that’s been pre-wired and full of boxes 📦 of equipment. I’ve sold half of it already. Yes sold the KRIX MX10 full surround system. The transparent screen went today. Why? Because I have way too much equipment. And then my son moved back home and took my office space by order of his mum. So my office moved to the ht room. How to combine an ht with an office??
1) Maybe install a drop down projector screen that goes in front of your computer desk.
2) Computer desk on one wall, TV/receiver/LCR speakers on the opposite wall, so your surround speakers are actually flanking the computer desk.
3) Mount a large TV on the wall and also use it as your computer monitor, but I’d invest in a wireless computer keyboard so you don’t have to be inches away from the TV just to conduct office business. 😄
Just off the top of my head! 🤷♂️😁
I'm just starting I've been doing the sound bar thing wife thinks it's good enough but she finally agreed I can have $3500 for a home theater so am looking at 2 options a pioneer elite lx 505 I wanted the onkyo but sold out everywhere and speakers I think klipsch at costco or ordering some svs prime center and 2 book shelfs and the svs 2000pro sub. Any feedback would be great thank you.
The Pioneer 505 is basically the same as the RZ50, so I would still go for that. Dirac Live is the best room calibration (IMO), which the 505 has. 🤘
And if you can swing it, an SVS system would be killer, not just audio-wise, but dealing with their stellar customer service makes the whole process that much more seamless. 🙌
@@ealanosborne thank you for the reply your amazing been watching your all your videos and you make it hard to nail down the right system I want mine for tv and 50/50 music and movies thanks.
@@edwardwilson9195 Music and movies is either Yamaha or Marantz, depending on your budget or brand preference. Although Emotiva does well for both music and movies, but they don’t have any AVRs, just preamps and external amps. So there it is narrowed down to 3, at least! 😄🤘
@@ealanosborne so no pioneer then. I think it has 120 watts per channel. Was looking at the new yamaha receiver for $1500 but what I read is the 8k and most of the features aren't ready yet but do you honestly think the yamaha is better for movies and sound than the pioneer 505 if so I'll take your advice and get it. Also what yamaha receiver would you recommend for that price.
@@ealanosborne also I'm not going to use external amps I'm new to all this basically a 3.1 system till I can afford back speakers and heights from svs that why I was thinking of the klipsch 5.0.2 to get more speakers bit kinda want bookshelf for space to keep wife happy.
First off I had to pause this video and I love you man you sound so real and down the Earth and teaching me a lot a lot of the other people there they're pretty good but man you sound like you go through a lot of problems that everyday guys or ladies whoever want to make a theater go through I did you cut yourself out by your cousin I even like that even more so yes I'm going to tell a shitload of people about your your channel and I'm going to go ahead and build me theater in my basement and I got my mortgage down and I want to enjoy my house but now where can I find that little device that I can angle so I can get the high speakers right let you use for your oral 3D I'm using speaking text cuz I'm driving the truck at the same time so if some of the words are not right forgive me
Thank you very much! Your kind words are truly appreciated. And good luck with your basement theater! Just one step at a time! 😁🤘
Why did you pick aperion audio over the rest?
1) Their speakers sound dope AF. I would compare them to SVS. And 2) Aperion has had my back since I only had a few thousand subscribers. They took a chance on me and it paid off for us both. They were a huge part in making my channel what it is today. 😁🤘
@@ealanosborne wow an honest reply I really appreciate it. Would you recommend them over svs? Or go with all svs ultra system? I'm saving up for my home theater system.
@@RjTheTrigun Honestly, SVS and Aperion are so similar when it comes to build quality, audio quality and customer service (they're both small enough to provide personalized help), it comes down to looks, which I think Aperion has the edge. Especially their Verus line, which is like pieces of furniture. The advantage SVS has, though, is more subwoofer options and something like the 5.1 Prime system. Aperion doesn't have anything similar.
You should get the parts express 18” subwoofer with the dual 18” passive radiators and build it when it comes to subs in theater if you diy you get way more bang for your buck 1000 dollars will get you a sub with the quality of a 4-5k sub
Thanks for the heads up! 🤘
@@ealanosborne your so handy you could easily make this and I’m sure you would love it
Room dimensions?
11’ x 16’ x 9’
I'm running a basic 5.1 system I know it's lame but I'm teenager without money
I didn’t have my first 5.1 system until I was in my 30’s, so you’re doing just fine. 😄🤘
@@ealanosborne 🤣
The wife factor is real
😁 No doubt, Jesse
Yeah the wife Factor kinda of sucks. I have the luxury of having a dedicated home theater but she keeps her guinea pigs in it..... So I have to run an air purifier because of all that Timothy Hay
the WIFE😂
Are your daughters into sound or are they like the wifey?
So far they just care about Minecraft and watching kid-friendly RUclips gamers being annoying AF 🤣 So far it doesn’t look like my audiophile genes weren’t passed on, but maybe one or both will blossom into audio enthusiasts in high school or something 😁🤘
Wanted to like your video.. But I didn't want to be that guy the takes it to '666' likes.. not feeling the mark of the beast lol.. I did sub tho..
Dang. Just checked again, and it still says “665” likes. Maybe check tomorrow? 🤣 Thanks for the sub!!! 🤘
@@ealanosborne Took your advice... liked number 669.. Feel better now ha.
@@paulshirley Yay! Thank you for your diligence, checking back periodically. 😄🤘
"the boulder fights back".......sorry, bruh
Thanks, man. My bones still ache if I attempt any pull-ups or grip anything remotely heavy. It’s taking way longer than I anticipated to completely heal 😭😄
great video love the content. I'm currently in the middle of my build (7.2.4) and not sure which receiver to go with so looking for some input. at first i was considering separates but it was out of my budget so now looking at the Marantz 8015 and the Denon 6700H both 11.2 receivers. anyone have any input on which one to go with and why? Maybe recommend different option?
If you’re willing to spend up to $3,800 on an SR8015, you technically could get separates. Tonewinner AT-300 ($1,400) + Outlaw Model 7000x ($1,000) + Outlaw Model 5000x ($770) for Just under $3,200. Or Emotiva MC-1 ($999) + BasX A7 ($700) + BasX A4 ($550) for $2,250. 🤷♂️
But to answer your question, Marantz is going to be a better fit if you like to listen to music just as much as watch movies. Marantz is known for their musicality. Denon will still sound great with music, but it’s built a little more for movies/TV, etc. 👍
@@ealanosborne thanks fir your reply I’m going to look into your suggestions 👍🏽
I will be going with an Onkyo RZ50 (or Pioneer) that has all the pre outs for 7.2.4 ($1,500) + an Outlaw 5000 ($770) to power the LCR and rear Atmos. I think that is the best deal you can get and still have Dirac.
@@shawnblackmur7887 I whole heartedly agree! And it's a safe bet with the Pioneer, since they are essentially the same as the Onkyo...and the RZ50 is nowhere to be found at the moment.
@@shawnblackmur7887 Thanks for sharing never thought about using a AVR along with an external amp for my setup. so much to choose from lol
