What makes it seem like that is because the break lights came on before it started.
You're probably right, that said, i had a coleague that had a Renault 19 16V who could be started with the remote. Add on feature? probably.
It's called " 3x lock start" people, you add a module under the dash that activates when 3 lock commands are received.
