  • My daughter set me up for my first show! unfortunately I am still in experimental phase with my glazes. I am not sure what my style will ultimately become but isn't it fun learning along the way?
    I mix my own glazes and used some new ones in this load. Working out the kinks so I can eventually have just what I want. My big monoprint bowl developed a crack in the side so it has not made it this far.
    Have a week and a few days left before the show now so I need to start gathering all my pots. Have another load in the bisque right now warming up. Fastest turn around I have done.. No they are not perfect, but this is a way to push myself to get better

    I love your mugs, especially the first one, the blue is beautiful. I like how each piece is unique and how all the colours compliment each other.

      Thank you so much! I was hoping to put some gold luster on the halos but my kiln is needing new relays now and didn't want to chance it

    Nice batch of work, my favorite is the first plate. It would be sweet if that tri-color effect could be repeatable, or somewhat controlled. Good luck on the showing!

      I sorta remember what I did. I was so tired when I opened I couldn't remember then. I saw that the purple glaze had settled some after I dipped it and then I mixed it and dipped it again. I am going tobtry to replicate it again. It will not be the same but I bet I can get it close

    hey very nice work!! If I can I would like to buy the cup at 13:10. Also do not worry to much about the rough feeling of the clay like you mentioned on that handled bowl. Great job adding other elements to make them interesting. I would make up 50 of those handled bowls as folks may really enjoy them. . Many pots I fire out in gas are that way and folks love then for a farmhouse country feel. Same with the cup. Great job on this load. I noticed that the things that ran may have went on to thick and the bare spots on the vase was glaze separation from being to thick and the glaze sliding off the pot. On the glazes that ran I think they would work if you were to back off the flux about 10% in the recipe. Also great job on the little mugs. So let me know about the cup and what you might like for it plus shipping. I love the glaze as it looks gas fired and I would have a nice time having coffee out of it for sure. Well I need to go check my kiln I am running a bisque tonight. It will run late as I procrastinated, but the good thing is I am on vacation.

      On the licorice glaze I had not let it sit for 24 hrs. I had just made the big 10,000 gram batch. While trialing it I had made a much smaller batch. I think that was the problem with it. The trials were great. So I am with you. The glaze was too thick. Spearmint has always given me problems but I love the shade of green it gives me. I bought the second Amazing Glaze and instead of using Frit 3195 in the first it uses 3134. Everything else was the same. On the rutile (your recipe) I don't think I mixed it well enough and also the winter white.
      That little cup you like the color of was just a tester for the clay. It was the first thing I madebwith that kind of clay and was not trimmed. It is bottom heavy lol. Not a great cup and not signed. I can make a good one for you if you like. I am getting more buffalo wallow clay because I really like it a lot!
      Also have fun on your vacation!

      I got the kiln used :-) it is a 2015 model. I totally lucked out and have 2 advancer shelves. I am a nurse and was working the covid floor. So decided to use the overtime on my pottery. I got my pottery wheel the same way on the first wave. Was totally exhausted but figured if I invested in the big stuff I would be able to get the smaller stuff later.

      @@KatAtkinson Well i got the rest of this week and next ten treatments are over I was told then they will wait 6 to 8 weeks to do all the test to see how things are going so any swelling or anything has time to go down. And I was just informed this morning that they are going to put a stent in my airway because its trying to collapse and they are going to have to put a stint in to prevent it they said cause its trying to don't know when that's going to happen

    I just wanted to mention that there is a really easy way to measure the specific gravity of your glaze. You get a big syringe that can hold 50cc and you use a scale to weigh that. Look into it! It will really save you some headaches!!

    • @KatAtkinson
      @KatAtkinson  2 года назад +1

      I have been practicing with measuring specific gravity.

    This is my first time seeing a video of yours. Amazing work! The glazes you use are just beautiful!! I can’t imagine working with so many different clays! I get them so mixed up when they are wet. So you keep your kiln outside? What about rain? What part of the country do you live in? I sooo love those shelves!! But wow they are just soo darn expensive!! I pray your first show went well! How did you do?

    • @KatAtkinson
      @KatAtkinson  2 года назад +1

      I was trying out several clays. I started with white stoneware clay from Trinity ceramics in Dallas Texas then switched over to T mix 6. That is my main clay it fires a nice white but is somewhat picky. Buffalo wallow, Speckled Buff and B3 are totally different colors after final firing. Speckled buff and Buffalo wallow bisque out same color but Speckled buff is heavier grog. I don't like it much but it does hold up well. I love Buffalo Wallow and B3. I mix 99% of my own glazes. I have had a lot of extra testing because of the experiments. Hence the 2 advancer shelves lol. I worked a ton of overtime to be able to get the kiln, shelves and strong arm. It was worth it. I decided on 2 full shelves because it was cheaper than 4 half shelves. The packaging cost was the same if I got one or 2. Shipping price was almost the same so that is why I got 2. I wish I had 6!

      I do keep kiln outside. I rent and that is where the landlord agreed to let me have them. I cover with PVC sheeting when raining, we built a covered patio over them. Not ideal but a risk I will take. Worst case will be replacing electronics quicker than I would like.
