  • In this episode, we take a look at a fundamental question- does fully on-chain really matter in the grand scheme of things? This question emerged out of a pattern I have noticed in the comment sections where viewers would ceaselessly speak of web2 dependencies as if they were the end of the world. Before losing our cool, let's take a look at what fully on chain means and what kind of data is relevant to the blockchain. Hope you enjoy!

I think that user didn’t understand what a web browser is. All it does for the most part is render html and css. On top of it, it will allow you make requests to servers. It’s fundamentally a client side piece of software. There would be zero gain to putting chrome on the blockchain.

Just a tad bit friendly pushback. In addition to “tamperproof” another benefit to fully on chain is the inability to be “de-platformed”. If my front end is deployed as a canister as opposed to say as a statically deployed AWS S3 app (or some other manner) then I still remain exposed to being de-platformed. We want to remove all elements of centralized control & middlemen…..

Great explanation! Much appreciated! I’ve been hit with “don’t blockchain for blockchain’s sake” when I offered everything on ICP is on chain. This is a great response (is also a lot like the original $BTC response to issues with national sovereignty).

Of course no not everything needs to be on the blockchain. The beauty of icp is the barrier to entry for devs who have been front end only can now much more easily deploy full stack apps with security solutions for the backend already solved (inherently by the blockchain network).

In the future one will buy only the hardware and the user will build his own OS on ICP with AI assistance.

Russia Gov't advised all their retail and Corporations to exchange cryptocurrency as if it was cash to circumvent Western and US Sanctions. The US and Western Countries can target 80% of decentralized crypto that survives on centralized computer cloud that can easily be censored to shut down alternative to weaponized fiat currencies but ICP is immune from censorship because it's fully on chain and sails through the clouds of censorship.

Onchain is your own garden whereby offchain is a bankrupt grocery store.

Onchain doesn't matter, security matter that why financial institutions are investing in bitcoin, ethereum, not icp
