I never understood girls last tour as I've never watched it, and nobody has been able to explain to me. Thanks for making a whole video to remedy that last part. I shall now read it

I watched this before I learned about absurdism and my "Canon Event"
This really puts things into perspective. I will probably rewatch it after my Philosophy self study. Thank you man. This is well made

    Bro truly lives the absurd.
Making Videos that obviously go against the algorithm due to its length and time between uploads.
Yet he makes em, not knowing if someone will watch for comprehend his prespetcive.
Nice Video Merlin👍, I love the quality and depth (+ not fearing the use of spoilers).
I dont enjoy media that repeat & force their prespective down my throat but I understand why the script would need it (Concepts shouldnt be expected to be understood in a single brief mention, repetition with examples will help comprehension)
Though I would be interested to see how a Yuu-type would live without Chi-type as it's obvious that one sacraficed their time for another to enjoy.
But of course Chi without Yuu would still not see the blue sky infront of her.
And Yuu without Chi would still live the moment even if it meant grinding the day away for ration.
But to Me, I want to see how an absurdist would react if they reached their breaking-point realizing "Is living life, smokin a blunet and saying 'it is what it is' while living the moment... truly proper?" After all, Yuu lived her life consuming not creating and the desire to create (Wether it is maps, planes, caretaking, poetry or journals) is a fundamental human desire (even if the creator would go mad in the end)
(This is not to say absurdist cant be creators).
Anyways Nice Choice in Fiction, Did it make you depressed & decide to live your life differently/ to the fullest? Or Have you already been doing that? If so, when did life "click" for you?

      > Though I would be interested to see how a Yuu-type would live without Chi-type as it's obvious that one sacraficed their time for another to enjoy.
I did have a small section talking about how Yuu and Chi needed each other but deleted it lol. Yuu without Chi would probably just eat all her food in a day, have no planning whatsoever, and die quick. She's a very extremist character. Chi without Yuu would probably be fixated on her goal of getting to higher levels and trying to survive.
      > After all, Yuu lived her life consuming not creating and the desire to create (Wether it is maps, planes, caretaking, poetry or journals) is a fundamental human desire (even if the creator would go mad in the end)
Yuu did do a little bit of creation to be fair. She did a little drawing in Chi's journal, and wanted to do more drawing but Chi told her it's a waste of paper. When they got to an art museum, Yuu is the one who made an art piece to add to the walls. I'm not sure if people need to create something physical to fill that desire. Maybe you can make your life itself a work of art by doing interesting things.
I think I may have emphasized the "collecting fun experiences" part of absurdism a bit too much though. There's definitely more to life than that.
      > Did it make you depressed & decide to live your life differently/ to the fullest?
I was dead inside for a bit after I finished the manga haha.
      > Or Have you already been doing that? If so, when did life "click" for you?
That's a big question! I don't know if there was a specific moment that life "clicked", I feel like it's more of a continuous journey of reading things, learning things, trying things out, failing, making mistakes, adapting, and moving forward. I'm better off now than I was a few years ago, but I still have much to learn.

The philosophy in this is so offensive to me, to value freedom so much only to say "no, not like that!" To everyone else doing it "wrong" is so hypocritical and pretentious.
Also, Chi and Yuu are both symbiotic and require eachother, Yuu is not simply "correct". Yuu only lived for as long as she did thanks to Chi and her focus on surviving and resource management, giving her more time to experience life. And Yuu helped bring happiness to Chi's bleak existence, because without any moments of happiness to look forward to, we'd all just do what the AI did, *even Yuu.*
The takeaway to me should be a balance, as always. Everything in moderation. Work hard and take care of yourself, but also don't forget to live your life.
The meaning of life is to find your own meaning. Most of everything we experience is a human construct: society, morality, *meaning, purpose.* Are these things somehow less valid because they are not fundamental aspects of the universe? Absolutely not! These are fundamentally our greatest gifts to the universe, our legacy is these concepts and value systems to me. Even good and evil, a very ancient and ingrained concept in humanity is a construct by us. But I imagine even someone who says good and evil aren't real still behaves as if they are, and doesn't simply steal or take selfishly from everyone around them, because good is a manifestation of *empathy.*

I wholeheartedly agree.. Imo, even the show itself tries to convey this message even with its side characters. As cliche as it is, I don't know if any other anime has been able to show me so brilliantly why we require others in our lives and why it's important to keep trying, even when things are looking grim.

Can I ask which part really struck you the wrong way, my main complaint was almost the entirety of part.6.

    • @merlinmeek
      @merlinmeek  2 дня назад

Can you explain more about what part was offensive? I don't disagree with anything you said here, so maybe there were some things I didn't explain clearly enough in the video.
The point isn't that "Yuu is correct and everyone else is wrong", just that Yuu is a full on Absurdist, and some other characters (Ishii and Kanazawa) seem to start off with a different philosophy but end up Absurdist.
Absurdism isn't the "correct philosophy" to live life with, people should do whatever works for them. The goal here was to analyze the show purely using Absurdism, but there are lots of other ways to think about the characters' beliefs and actions.

I’m finishing Toilet bound Hanako season 2 and slept through the last episode. Lol I’m not sure why but I’ll have to rewatch that last one. I also finished Hoshino Ai and cried like crazy.

His argument is very nuanced, he's not saying anything's wrong with religion. He just wants to know if there are other ways to approach the problem of meaning.

Right in the feels, loved the video.
There is this theme of sticking it to the absurd, but why? I understand the alternative is nothingness and becoming swallowed by the absurd, but it's paradoxical to fight the absurd by doing something absurd. I like the philosophy from The Matrix, certainly from a philosopher I don't know about, you do something because you chose to. No justification, no reason. Just choice.

    • @merlinmeek
      @merlinmeek  2 дня назад

Because in Camus' framing the only other choice is giving up or ignoring it, and he doesn't want to do that.
