- A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. diesel particulate filters usually remove 85% or more of the soot, and under certain conditions can attain soot removal efficiencies approaching 100%. Some filters are single-use, intended for disposal and replacement once full of accumulated ash. Others are designed to burn off the accumulated particulate either passively through the use of a catalyst or by active means such as a fuel burner which heats the filter to soot combustion temperatures. This is accomplished by engine programming to run (when the filter is full) in a manner that elevates exhaust temperature, in conjunction with an extra fuel injector in the exhaust stream that injects fuel to react with a catalyst element to burn off accumulated soot in the DPF filter,

@@jackyvidhwani5986 mere pass bhi ecosport titanium diesel hai,agar running kam hai toh 10 din me ek baar 60 km highway par nikal jaya Karo,aur 80 ki speed tak consistently car chalao,itna toh karna padega.
This DPF problem occurred in my new i20 also. It was run thrice a week for 110kms daily at a speed of 60 to 70 kmph. After a month of traveling, when I completed 2200kms this DPF symbol appeared on my instrument cluster.
DPF regeneration is not a very big headache to be worried much unless you neglect it for a long time. As soon as your car's MID shows.... "DPF regeneration required, see owners manual".....Drive for some 20 to 25 kms at 3rd gear at a speed above 60kmph. Then if the DPF indicator is still on in the instrument cluster, then just park your car in a open space, turn on the engine and switch on the headlight at high beam and turn on the A/C at full blower speed and open the bonnet. Then just select self regeneration on the MID, by pressing the Ok button or the dedicated DPF button,( if you don't have both, then turn on and off the key continuously for 5 times and switch on the car).
Keep the car running for 30 min and the regeneration process will be completed and your problem will be solved.
My car took 27min to self regenerate.
Self regeneration is the solution for DPF clogging.

My new Thar RWD asked for regeneration yesterday after 1800 km approx after driving it on highway on above 80. Self regeneration took almost 15 minutes. Regen will be asked weather you drive it on highway or city.
