Love this video. Full of insightful information as only Marc Schoenberger can explain -- especially about the two different cones. My favorite parts are the images at the end of the video of the two sister guitars side by side.
My dad had one in the 50’s...reclaimed after the passing of his dad. I always thought it would be cool to have it nickel plated. He traded it off for a fiddle...before I was old enough to tell him otherwise. He played it like a lap steel...also a 5 string banjo...2 finger style with what I would call a syncopated rhythm. I’ve heard a lot of banjo players over the years...and not one that had his style. 😂 He passed in 92...and I have one of his banjos. Weighs a ton. He had an old Kay...by my standards...which he bought new. I learned how to play the guitar and playing together...are some of my best memories. If you know any 2 finger banjo pickers that pick with a syncopated rhythm...I’d appreciate you letting me me know. Foot note...Because of corrosion...nickel plating the dobro...probably wasn’t a good idea. 😂👍🏻
Does weather have a big effect. I just bought a relatively new - serial num 15681 Triolian, and all of a sudden it developed a buzz today when I've had it going fine for the last 3 weeks. It's getting hot and humid, so I'm wondering if the resonator guitars are particularly sensitive to heat and humidity. Obviously the metal will expand and contract because of heat, and the wood in the neck, and possibly in the bridge will do the same with the humidity. Just interested to know, because it's a very sudden transition from being fine to having a buzz....
Very nice guitar and restore! I found an old National tenor in a grandparent's attic. Paint is worn on some of the resonator cover. with some scratches in the steel. What would you recommend to remove these scratches?
Who is the young guy pictured on your website? Those are beautiful sounding guitars. I have a first generation cone Don sent back to me from a 31 Duolian I have. After watchin this I had to tap it with a fork. Those guitars look like they have new fretboards. I have been wanting one of those pea greeen polychromes. regards, Cary Boyd
