I'm a Ocean Alum, former section leader of the Basses 03'. I will not be biased. SU has the best band in the SWAC. Ocean can fight with any band in the SWAC except them because of the arrangements. Don't get me wrong I love my band...they are no push overs and have handled themselves well despite their size; to deal with SU, we need more trumpets and more musical arrangements.
You are absolutely right about the OCEAN! It takes a lot to go against the JUKEBOX. One, your arrangements are going to need to be superb! Two, brass is needed. The only school that ever really goes blow to blow with them is the BOOM, however as of late THEY have even been lackluster. I will say that I have always had mad respect for the OCEAN. "TORTURE"

To begin I love all HBCUs but as a Louisiana native and SU Alumni I most be honest and say GRAM isn't in the top 15 of bands and we(SU) are number one. I love our little sibling to the north but when it comes to bands there is no comparison.
You lost credibility when you say GSU is not in the top 15...are you aware HBCU have Grambling ranked one of the top 5 bands. Not trying to convince you-just stating a fact. Many agree that SU blow louder but many of their half-time shows are boring (takes too long with transition). Many rather GSU half-time performance due to their quick transition from one song (and dance routine) to the next. As great as SU (The Human Juke Box) is, they must improve on their transition.
Xtradonaire Motown im a proud human jukebox alumn. 99-03..and southern is always in the top 2 bands when it comes to hbcu bands...we sound better, march better , our drills are better, our arrangements are the best, and we dance better than grambling. They do the same dance steps every year...smh.. There's a lot of list with the top hbcu bands and grambling is not above us on any so continue to wish...nothing comes to a sleeper but a dream and grambling been sleep!
