I've seen a few military youtubers who talked about this; dental floss is a trick to neaten the hair down so you don't get yelled at. They want it *that* neat, and they want you ready quickly. Flossing your hair down gets you ready on time.
This is no longer true those standards changed and they can just have a ponytail now along with earrings to a degree. Very laxed compared to how it was. But males don't get beards yet of course.

Yeah ikr I have had to sew mine like a million times and the floss worked way better (though if you don’t sell them right you can see the floss through the pretty silk or satin of the shoe)
