I meant to clarify that the #eggmist is a mix of hard water impurities and tiny bits of egg. Using purified water does mostly eliminate that problem!

First Last the water is boiling out completely in this product so the impurities will be left behind on the element. The traditional way you don’t boil the water until it’s gone.

Yeah, they've basically given you a steamer with an undersized water reservoir. It shouldn't be boiling dry every time you use it.

Good review, James. Frequently, soft cooked eggs are served in a egg stand, the pointy end is cracked and removed, and the egg eaten from the shell with a spoon. (Like anyone cares, right?)

A hotel in Europe back in the 70s served a continental breakfast and the egg was soft boiled and sitting on a stand with the top removed with toast and coffee....a simple breakfast. :)

I have the older version of this, before it became the Copper Chef. It cooks up to 7 eggs at once in addition to the poached, it makes a nice omelet. I use 2 or 3 eggs for the omelet. Comes out nicely. My water has a high mineral content and that leaves a residue after the water boils away. Bar Keeper's Friend cleans this out well. I purchased several of these for gift-giving, kids going away to college, newly-weds, etc. I like it for making deviled eggs for picnics. If you break the eggshell at the large end, the egg will be far easier to peel. Once you find the membrane, the shell will come off in practically one piece. For what it is, I'm pleased with it, sure beats timing a pot-full of boiling water!
Really enjoy your videos, keep on don't what you're doing, you're appreciated by so many!

My family knows how much I love making deviled eggs, but also know how much I hate cooking/peeling them. I could never get the timing right, and would decimate the eggs while peeling them. They got this for me this past Christmas, and I had perfectly cooked, easily peeled eggs for deviling on New Year's Eve. One of the best gifts I've received.

Amazing product even though it is just for eggs but very happy it was available . Used it only once so far but it will be used ALOT because my daughter loves hard boiled eggs. Thank you for the review & hope you continue. I'll always watch!!!

I was going to say the same thing. My mom still has one in that's been in our family since at least the late '70s. I think it's actually better than this one, though because while it only does 6 eggs at a time, the water measure line is on the heating element itself and the piercing needle is on the egg tray which makes it a lot less awkward to use. Plus, it will poach 4 eggs at once in a more traditional poached egg shape. Same exact concept otherwise.

Hello. First I must say that I absolutely love my egg cooker which is similar to your but only cooks 6 eggs. I haven't "water boiled" eggs for over 10 years. There is always little calcium or whatever left over on the burner but I spray it with vinegar/water solution when it's still warm & let it sit for few minutes & it will wipe off very easily. Also mine has a option to use a alarm when it's done. So mine sure get my love 💗. Thanks 👍😀

@Jolene Miller I used to boil my eggs and I recently switched to a Dash 6 cooker. Never will I boil an egg ever again. I'm happy as a clam with mine. Can't attest to its longevity since I've only been using it for several months. A 14 egg cooker sounds much better than 6. But the 14 it doesn't have an audible alarm, I don't like that. Dash is 20 bucks; 14 cooker is 20 bucks, good price! If you want an alarm go Dash 6 egg cooker, if you don't care about an alarm go 14 cooker. I know that when the water boils off the bottom plate it automatically shuts off but I WANT an alarm for my peace of mind. Good luck with your purchase. I'm jealous of t hose extra 8 eggs cooking. lol www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DDXWFY0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Someone drank the Kool Aid on this! I HB my eggs in 5 mins in an Instant Pot and can cook two dozen if I want to. One or two dozen, it doesn’t matter, FIVE mins and you’re done! Not to mention how versatile a pressure cooker is, like cooking a few pound FROZEN SOLID chunk of meat in an hour or so! Down on 🥚cookers.

I have been peeling my hard boiled eggs under running water for many, many years. That helps get under the thin membrane and makes them much easier to peel. The Red Copper people didn't invent that idea, but it was very helpful of them to share it.
I have a different brand of egg cooker that only does up to 7 eggs, with a shrill scream when it's done, and would only consider the Red Copper one if I made a lot of deviled eggs often. To be fair, as someone else mentioned, it's not really terribly difficult to make them the old fashioned way in a pot of water, but I love my egg cooker. We have the issue with hard water residue, but a soak with vinegar gets it cleaned off pretty well. Looks like another Red Copper product that works pretty well.
As always, thanks so much for your review! If my other egg cooker dies, I may very well buy this one, as I don't HAVE to cook 14 eggs if I don't need that many.

I just got the Copper Chef Perfect Egg Maker on an $8 per item 2018 holiday special through Copper Chef. I finally got a chance today to use it. I was surprised that you don't set the amount of time you want the egg to cook. How does the egg maker know how hard I want my boiled eggs to be? I still don't know the answer to that, but the eggs turned out exactly how I wanted them. I had 7 perfect hard boiled eggs in less time than it took me with my old on-the-stove method. And I was very impressed by how easily the eggs peeled. Like with your review, I too experienced the eggmist residue. Strange to say the least. The residue cleans up easily, but it did leave markings on the burner. Can't quite call it pitting nor a stain, but it certainly doesn't look as beautiful as it did earlier this morning! Still, for $8, I'm counting the egg maker as a good purchase.

My mom sent me this very same egg cooker after getting a buy one get one free deal on QVC. I was first introduced to egg cookers years ago while living in Germany, and I find them very handy for those of us who are prone to forgetting that we have eggs boiling (ever seen an egg explode onto the ceiling? 😩)
I made my first “omelette” in mine today, and it came out pretty good, albeit more of a frittata than an omelette. Very handy though.

I love watching every one of your vids. I own a copper Chef and have recently found that to clean the bottom, one can use Bar Keepers Friend. put a bit of the powder in the baked cooking tin, add a bit of water to make a bit of paste. clean in a circular motion and the bottom will look brand new. Since it can't be under water, use a wet paper towel and use circular motion. then use a dry paper towel to dry. I too was disappointed at how you need to clean it right after.

  • @prebenkul

I think the reason it takes a while before it starts is to heat up the water as that's the primary heating source, getting that steamy enough to cook the eggs. I feel like, this is definetly better than making eggs normally as to cook eggs, youd need a pot for the eggs which cost money, and the more eggs, the bigger the pot. Id believe this gadget is much cheaper to buy and with this gadget, youd save tons of water because you need quite a lot of water to ecompass 14 eggs, with this gadget, you just need a cup or so.

So I just got one of these and they are wonderful. Perfect poached eggs first time use. No egg mist or burnt on the bottom kind of a mess like you were saying the differences I use filtered water. Did not have to clean the burner. And the eggs in the poacher did not stick I just use a little more cooking spray it does work as advertised it is a great product! Try these differences and you’ll see a perfect experience! So glad I got this

I'm making hard boiled eggs in mine as I type. This egg cooker and others like it work great. I always give the eggs a little crack before putting into the ice water. The cold water gets up under the shell and helps them peel even easier. The shells just slide off. Yes, the bottom of the water pan requires a little wipe to clean because as the water cooks away the pan develops a bit of residue. I used to hate peeling eggs until I started using one of these.

I'm glad you did this one. I've had a similar single layer cooker called the EggGenie about 10 years now. I use it regularly, usually making 3 or 4 eggs at a time and have been quite pleased with the results. Rarely ever overcooked green yolks. Easy to peel. (hint: very fresh eggs are hardest to peel) Conversely to yours, mine has a loud buzzer when it's done but doesn't shut off so you have to pull the cord (or else). Also, mine only develops a scaly deposit on the bottom over time. Every so often, I pour a little vinegar in it and let it sit to remove the deposits. Oddly, mine says to pierce pointy end.

Helpful hint if you haven't read it already but since you have to throw out the ice water bath it's suggested to use that water to wash off the shell fragments. The ice water bath itself is an old trick to "shock" the membrane and white off the shell. You can do the same thing with cold water and or just using older eggs. Fresh eggs are horrible to hardboiled and deshell. Thanks for the review mate!

I used a similar product. It stopped working after a fairly long time so I was pleased. I loved the poached eggs. I also loved the omelet pan, which I wished that you would have demonstrated. The omelet comes out different than using a frying pan. It was steamed and raised up like a cake. An egg scrambled with some parm. cheese and it comes out delicious. I bet even you son would like it. I had the same issue with the heating unit but directions said to scrub lightly with baking soda. Love your reviews.

We have a similar egg cooker. Though it can only do one tier of eggs. But there is also an omelette dish as well. It works the same. The tray does develop a slight build up of mineral deposit from the water. But easily cleans up with a solution of white vinegar and water, especially after it is just done heating.
And I never bother to use the poker any longer on the hard boiled eggs. Works just as fine without pricking them.

You could get an "egg" timer that you can set and you will hear that! You could probably also steam some veggies in it. If you crack the eggs a little while they're still in the water they will be easier to peel. Just tap them with a spoon. And I agree - cracking then rolling makes them easier to peel also. I usually rinse them off after they're peeled. I hate biting into an egg and feeling a little crunch. I thought the poached eggs where a little overcooked. I wouldn't mind a little burnt smell. It's better than the big burnt smell if, when boiling on the stove, you forget to turn off your eggs and all your water has boiled off. (P.S. If you leave them on too long after the water has boiled off they will explode on to your ceiling) :-(

I think it would need a revision to fix the issues pointed out in the video along with just general build quality improvements before it gets a solid recommendation.

I got an off brand thru Groupon last year (single decker) and I love it. It does buzz when it's done but the element does the same thing. My MIL got a double decker one and loves hers. Couldn't live without it!

I've used the Copper Chef egg maker and also another brand (identical method) and they work great. And you're not heating up the kitchen with boiling water. Some of what you find on the heating element is water minerals. That's why most have nonstick surfaces. Got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's great around the holidays. I'd recommend it.

I got a Dash brand..it only makes 6 but that's fine. I love it. I have been eating more hard boiled eggs because I'm doing the Keto diet. I have lost 47lbs and am no longer diabetic. It is so simple ..I don't have the problem with the sediment from the water..and taking the shell off is so easy now..

About the so called "egg mist", it is an expected amount of hard water minerals left once the water has evaporated. Remember, you are steaming these eggs, they are not being boiled. So. in the end, you just have to clean the bottom of the egg cooker. I've been using one put on the market by Dash. It works the same way.But it does have a buzzer that alerts you when it's done. The product works by regulating the amount of steam, hense different measurments of water. I've had mine for more than a year, and use it a couple of times a week. I probably wouldn't make hard boiled eggs as often if I didn't have this. It's great not having to babysit the eggs, and in the end, they are done, and peel easily. Hope this helps.

We have a 6 egg cooker and use it all the time. The brand name is MCM(Mark Charles Misilli). It came with different inserts so you can make things like omelettes and poached eggs. This is our second one. We gave our first one to our son and bought our current cooker which has an alarm when its done. The MCM cooker was bought on HSM. Thanks for the video.

To help keep bottom clean from water residue or 'egg mist' use a little cooking oil in water or coat with alittle shortening. Works for me. I love this machine so worth the money. Precooked meats (luncheon, bacon, sausage, etc.,) can be heating in the machine as eggs cook.

I just use the old fashioned saucepan on the stove method. I can see this being useful if you want to boil a lot of eggs at once, for a large gathering or something, but I can't imagine needing it in every day life. I love soft boiled eggs in an egg cup, and it takes me 2.5 minutes on the stove (from when the water starts boiling.)
Also, thanks for putting Bailey in the video. She always makes me smile :)

James, thank you for the review. I do a good job making eggs from the normal way, but sometimes even in the summertime I don't want to put a pot on the stove and it's boiling and with all that heat. I think this product would really be suffice for me I'm on the keto diet so a lot of hard boiled eggs I like to put in my salads and whatnot. I think this would be so beneficial and to see that it's actually working really well. I think this might be something considering investing in. Again James thanks again for reviewing this product this is why people like you I'm glad do this stuff to see if it's worth buying.

I am late to this party. I am now in my second generation of using this product. The only reason l do not have my original two is because they burned up in an apartment fire two years ago. I use my double decker one for every day. And l have one just for use during Passover, because l keep kosher. The "egg mist," l hope by now, has been explained is generally from minerals in your water pipes. I tried using the product with filtered water, which made a difference, but it is hard to find the right water where l love. Not worth the cost. I just clean with white vinegar every other use. I LOVE this product. I recommend it to everyone. And l am nearly 66 years old. The automatic shutoff is a life saver. Set your own timer to go back and get the eggs, but don't worry. This is a fabulous device and l love it. Highly recommended. 10 of 10.

I have a simular egg maker, mine holds 7 eggs, and it has a buzzer that goes off when done. My faucet water causes a scally residue in the egg maker. Mine takes 9 minutes for 7 hard boiled eggs. Mine came with two different kinds of trays - one to make an omlet, which I tried and it came out great.

For ever late comment, but I had to say something. The eggmist , lol, is just the minerals in the water. Boil water in anything until nothing is left and you will always see residue. Same stuff that builds up in your shower and on the shower head. Now when it had some black burnt stuff in the bottom, that was for sure some egg that squirted out and burned on the element. Love your content, thanks for the work.

No. Steaming bristle sprouts like this wouldn't really work for the hassle, doing 14 sprouts at a time, and most sprouts take more than 20 minutes to steam, and this has an auto shutoff. Also, steam your meatballs and tell me how that goes.

I don't have the copper chef version but I have one that does a bakers dozen (13) eggs. And it works very well. Picked it up off Amazon for about $15. Came with everything the copper chef version came with. I have had it for about a year give or take and it gets used 4-6 times a month. Never had a problem with it. We even got one for the office that does 6 eggs. That one gets heavy use. It's been almost every day for the last 7 months. Also not one problem with it. The 6 egg unit was also about $15.

I'm not "eggthusiastic" about this product. I think it is just as easy to boil the eggs, put them in ice-water when done, and peel from the round part (breaking the shell with the thin membrane) This makes them peel easily. Some times I think we are over gadgetized.

Your comment about it seeming like a waste of water, I used to do that and found an easier and faster way to shell hard boiled eggs. When you crack the shell, roll the egg so it is cracked all over, peel off the fat end and take a small spoon and slide it, cupped shape towards the meat of the egg, under the cracked shell. This pulls the shell away in sheets since the cracked pieces stay attached for the most part to the membrane inside. Works like a charm and no wasted water.

A large pot, a steaming basket that fits in it, a lid for the three and a thumb tack for the eggs gets me all the same results and I can use all that stuff for other things too.
(This method is also the best I've found for soft boiled eggs as it's the only one that allows the eggs to peel without ripping apart.)

It's the ice bath that makes the eggs easy to peal and the yolks bright yellow. The ice causes the egg to shrink away from the shell and also pulls the sulfur away from the yolk into the white. Sulfur settling in the yolk makes it green.

I bought the #1 version of this on Amazon and everything I say the exact same: the trays, the piercing, the steam cooking, water levels, etc. This is just constructed to fit 14 vs 10. I was HOPING this would have some non stick surface on the trays bc otherwise it's the EXACT same. However the Cuisinart dings loud when done.... Also eggmist is bc the water and you have to clean somewhat regularly with vinegar or it'll be permanent

I have something like this but it only makes 12 eggs at a time. If you look on the egg trays, there is a small "handle" on each side of the tops of the trays. I just pick the tray up by the handles and dump them in the ice water all at the same time for each tray. Also, I peel the eggs in the bowl of ice water. Less water waste. I store the peeled eggs in a plastic container. To clean the heating element, use a little apple cider vinegar mixed with water. Let sit a few minutes and it wipes right off.

3:06 😄 Couldn't help but notice the one poached egg cooked better then the other one. That's interesting that it tells you to pierce the eggs, when they're being steamed. I steam eggs all the time in my vegetable steamer and have never pierced them, and they have always been fine. I did get this for my daughter for Christmas and will try this without piercing. • @sfisher973
    @sfisher973 6 лет назад +1

    1) set the egg piercer down on the counter top and push the egg down on it. It’s easier. 2) break the shell up into smaller pieces all over (with your fingers) and the chance of the egg shell taking a chunk of egg with it is greatly decreased. 3) the #eggmist is your hard water impurities and the steam condensing on the egg shells and absorbing minerals from the egg shell. Unless of course you placed one or more of the eggs with the hole facing downward, or the egg was very fresh and hadn’t yet developed an air pocket in the fat end. The egg would expand and try to squeeze out of the hole. 3) poking a hole in the egg allows the air pocket in the egg (assuming they aren’t really fresh) a way to escape as the egg solidifies and expands rather than cracking the shell and egg spilling out. 4) let the heat plate soak with a bit of vinegar for a little while and a paper towel will take it right out. The same thing they tell you to do to your coffee maker for similar reasons. You just can’t see it in your Keurig and you let it go longer. Out of sight, out of mind. 5) hmm, a single use product that cooks eggs 3 to 5 different ways depending how you count. According to that a fry pan is a single use product. It cooks food. Really all you can really say is its a single food product.
