    Interesting the leasing company / bank couldn't find a buyer for a relatively unused 787-9. So it gets scrapped.

    • @celderian
      @celderian 6 дней назад +8

      In the post-COVID world, it's probably more lucrative to just part it out. Any potential buyer would have to pay to have the interior gutted and brought up to passenger service specs. For such an old-build it's most likely not worth it.

    Early 787's were notoriously overweight, and many had to be extensively reworked. After looking up its history, this may not be the case since it was #293 off the line. Kind of a shame, but spares bring big bucks.

    The cost of bringing an aircraft back into service after 10 years of inactivity is considerable. Then there is the cost of fitout (it’s empty at the moment). However the almost virtually unused engines and other parts can be sold for a substantial profit. So frankly - it makes complete sense to me to scrap it. Would not be an easy or cheap fix to get this aircraft into airline serivice, it has no interior and if it has a unique specification such as landing gear and fuel system even more so. The other issue is this aircraft has never been maintained in an airline regulated enviroment only as charter operator, this means component trace documentation will not be good enough for airline qc requirements. In order to comply the components will have to be recertified / traced to a repair shop meaning extra $$ and less value of components.

    It's a Boeing, a name that once stood for quality and perfection. Now after a merger with "McDonnell Douglass" whose only concern is the quarterly profits and cutting corners, it has become a game of cat and mouse. Look up what Boeing Aircraft are under scrutiny for the many flaws, metal filings in fuel tanks, tools left in wings or fuselage and of course the failure rate of certain models. Now they are in court for more than just these dangerous acts and shortfalls of inspection processes, it seems they are in court for the killing of an ex employee who turned whistle blower. I am normally not worried about aircraft that much, I spent 30 years in the military and flew in some of the crappiest contraptions known to man, but this Boeing epidemic has me looking at my flight schedules these days to see if I am on one of there ill fated aircraft. Scrapping it the best option after sitting for nine years.

      @@AlbertHess-xy7ky not arguing, but doesn't it have even more value if it was never built, and the components were sold new from the OEM ? Because somewhere in it's line of owners, somebody probably lost a lot of money. Was the loss written off to taxes ? So the taxman paid some of the loss (with taxpayer money) ?

      Oh absolutely with what they know today that aircraft would never have been built. Automobile companies often build cars that they must sell at a loss. Fashion companies often produce more product than they can sell, they do not tarnish their label by discounting or giving their product away, they deystroy it. . Those losses come off their taxable income. You have a screwed up idea of how the world economy works. Most every company takes some actions that result in a loss. Look at the number of defunct airframers, we are down to two majors.
      You appear to want to blame someone for the loss. The airframer? The aircraft financers/lessors? The airlines? Market conditions? You?

      They are way too slow on trans Atlantic flights. First and business class take this into consideration and will try to book on a 747-8. Their flight time is at least an hour shorter on the same route and just as efficient. Hope some day we will have supersonic transportation for the average civilian passenger.

With several of my fellow engineers, I went to a Boeing factory as inspectors for our company and we were shocked and disgusted at what we saw. Parts made by the cheapest supplier assembled by the cheapest labourers. Really sad. But - that's Boeing.
