    This is my version of a slot mortise that I spent a lot of time designing with quick setup time in mind. no measuring required can be used completely with reference marks. I got inspiration from matthias wandel's slot mortise. the left and right stops also have reference marks for different width tenon stock.

    Hi Ryan!
    Being coal is not just making things to show off.
    That being said, not only you have made one of the best router tables here on youtube, but also have been generous enough to share with other people the plan of you table for free .
    This is what is being cool about.
    Thank you again, and keep it up!

  • @PunkR0ckz09

    I guess the next big thing for this slot mortiser would be to make the base of the router "pivotable"(is that a word?), then we could use it as both a slot mortiser and a biscuit jointer (yeah, I'm crazy like that!).
    If you're willing to go that route, you could just add a plate on top of the part you call "horizontal table" with a pivot pin in the dead center and reference hole for the 0 degree (parallel to the edges of the board) and a circular slot with a knob to tighten the angle. The reference hole would be used to put a pin in it to tighten the knob and make sure it is always at 0 degree, if you would like to use it as a biscuit jointer, you would have to remove that pin and untighten the knob...
    With your already existing slot mortiser, I believe you would only need to change 2 parts (the horizontal table and the face plate of the fence support (since the slot would be higher due to the newly added plywood plate to pivot)
    I really like that design and I might make it myself, with the biscuit jointer option I just mentioned to see if it would work but for now I have to make a lot of room in my garage to be able to start somewhere :)

    Very elegant!
    I think if you had plans available there would be a lot of interest. I have a mortising machine based off of a Shopnotes design; it's a vertical design that uses a bench screw to raise and lower the router.
    Your design has a much smaller footprint..
    Did you design on the fly or did you have a plan designed prior to construction? How long did it take to build?

  • @Belg1970

    Very nice compact design, the wedge adjustment is just as simple as it is effective. The only thing I saw that needed a little improvement was the set up mark for centering the height in the stock. I've had some trouble when I drilled dowels off center that when gluing it split out the (narrow) side. (y)

    • @Shopbuilt
      @Shopbuilt  10 лет назад +1

      thanks for the comment. I think the reason why the mortises are off center is because when I scribed my reference mark on the work piece I just did it by eye and I was off.

    • @Belg1970
      @Belg1970 10 лет назад

      Shop built I went back and looked at the video again and you did make the mark off center and when you clamped it down it went down a slight bit more.

    One thing you could do while the temperature is still warm in the garage is a second video where you measure all the parts with a scale and give the measurements in the audio. Dimensions, angle measurements, and the such will allow us to figure out the rest. Once again, thank you.

    Brilliant design. Only thing I would like to see different is the fact that the router bit has to travel through 3/4 inch before it reaches the stock. Would b good if the router could have nothing between it and the stock being cut. Other than this, the design and function is really awesome imo.

  • @constantinosschinas4503

    a bit overbuilt but looks very good. you can somehow add a self centering, maybe scissor like feature on the front side, or another method, if you use it often with material-centered slots.
    i would prefer a portable version of this, that i could clamp on the wood itself :)
