260-270lb rider and i love my 2024 yz125x. Unless your trying to race at the highest levels there is no "too big for a 125".

I'm curious why u went with the X version there is a big difference but I would assume we would benefit from the stiffer yz125..

@@TheTAEclub the suspension doesn't really matter because if you are heavier than 175-180 pounds you need to respring every single bike you ever buy, but to get a bike with more tourqe is awesome. Tourqe is what moves weight. The yz125x has great bottom end and can lug around off road and pull a heavy rider out of a corner better than a gutless high end only bike.

Unfortunately I hear the same comments repeated over and over by the magazine tests. For instance I've heard several times that the suspension will probably need tuning for West Coast events. You're right. And that tuning is nothing more than turning the clickers in or out a click or two. This bike is perfectly capable of racing motocross up to the intermediate class with a 180 rider straight off the showroom floor.

So it’s like a hybrid Mx/ trail bike?

Yes, this is their cross-country race bike.

The media is not like the functional MXA of the 70.s, 80.s and 90's. Today's media will never mention that the 2-stroke YZ's are stupid tall, and set up for a fast MX track in a futile effort to keep up with the faster 4-strokes. The media today will not tell you how much work you may want to do to the bike to make it a good bike for anything else, (off road stuff).
I put more time and did more mods to my 2019 YZ250 to make it a great bike for the woods, than I ever had to before 2000 for a 250cc MX bike conversion.
Seat height, 1" lower. Suspension .75" lower, get rid of the Batman plastic, Engine mods for much better lower end power. A shortened FMF silencer so it does not club me in a endo. Now--the bike is great for something. But,--with the mags today,--it will never get fixed before they hit the showroom floor. You will buy it and lose on a MX track, or modify it a lot to get what works better everywhere else,---if you know what your looking for, new generation. :)

    What hand guards are those?GYTR?

    • @cyclenews

      Believe they are Cycra.

@@cyclenews OH yea. I got those also (Cycra did make GYTR same design too). I did not like the taper clamp, and designed made my own inside brackets/mounts (I have a small machine shop), that clamps on the 7/8" end bar section. I shortened the wraps at the bar end, keyed the wrap into the end of the bar, and they look like a set of "flags" that don't change the dynamics of the bar, and are more rigid than other full wraps, (or can be made to spin if desired).
Those bark busters were sitting all alone on the show room floor, but i fixed those too. Would love to sell the design. Maybe I will give "Enduro Engineering" one more try.

@dirkdiggler6230 ready to race it still does trails with ease not much tuning to get it how you like it more aggressive than the x so more fun for a 125 kick stand is just unessery
